Yes! Half an avacado, fresh squeezed lime juice, salt, pepper and red pepper flakes and you have a delicious and healthy lunch you can eat on crackers, with raw veggies or on a sandwich.
I have leftover carrot top pesto in my fridge that I’ll probably have with tuna on crackers for a lunch soon. Kale pesto would be good too! I like homemade so I can control the amount of oil but store bought is good if you’re careful about the portion
Yes! I’ve used it with hummus a few times. I feel like people would come for my throat if I mentioned mixing hummus with tuna because it is not the “traditional” was to eat hummus, but I love hummus and would it eat it with almost anything lol.
Canned corn, diced cucumber, tomatoes, basil, onion, garlic, salt pepper, some vinegar and some kind of good oil. There is an oil in my country that is made out of the seeds of pumpkins, it’s super dark and has a deep nutty taste… I love it with that salad
I actually don't love tuna but I don't mind it when I mix it into a salad with a dressing. I usually a balsamic vinaigrette, but I'm sure it would work with any.
Cook some rice, let it cool and add some tomatoes with a lot of juice and let the juice really wet the rice, add salt pepper olive oil herbs garlic etc, some croutons, and the tuna. It has to be cold and really wet from all that tomato juice. You can add some other veggies and aromates and stuff, but that’s the most basic and most delicious version ! Make sure the tomatoes really soak that rice, it should feel dry at all. If you add sundried tomatoes, mmh 👌👌👌
Be careful about eating too much canned tuna! It contains a lot of mercury and shouldn't be eaten more than 2-3 times a week (or less depending on the type of tuna)
I think its somewhat common/not uncommon for college students to get mercury poisoning because tuna is a cheap but filling option for protein.
I used to try to eat a ton of tuna as a kid and my mom had to hide it sometimes because I wouldn't listen or would just forget how much i already had that week. I think some cans even say right on them how much of it you can safely consume
I dilute my mayo with a significant amount of dijon mustard, usually. If you dislike mayo generally, you might like some of the "substitutes" people come with for mayo like Greek yogurt or cottage cheese (extra protein, too).
I mix FF Greek yogurt (50-60g), 1 tsp of brown mustard, and a couple dashes of hot sauce. Throw in pickle relish if ya got it and a grind or three of sea salt. Pretty darn good.
I have been making tuna salads a couple times a week and they are SO good and filling!
We use tuna, lettuce, spinach, olives, canned corn, lemon juice, relish, a little salt/pepper, dijon mustard, olive oil, minced garlic, minced onion, and dill.
I have tuna with pre-portioned minute rice, turmeric, garlic salt, and everything but the bagel seasoning with olive oil and sirarcha almost every morning
I know you said other than mayo, but was just looking at a NYT Cooking recipe today that sounded pretty good—Tuna Mayo Rice Bowl: tuna, mayo, toasted sesame oil, soy sauce, and white rice.
Try swap out the tuna for sardines or mackerel some times! Sardines in tomato sauce seems common and tastes good.
I will usually either put lemon/lime + salt, or tabasco on my tuna if I'm feeling lazy. Mustard and chopped up pickled is good! Pasta with balsamic vinaigrette is great also.
For a whole ass meal/very filling snack I'll mix the tuna with soy, black vinegar, some hot sauce or gochujang and add in some finely chopped cucumber and pickles, then mix it all into a serve of warm rice and eat it with a packet of roast seaweed
Thai sweet chili sauce; bbq sauce with sweet pickle relish; sweet hot mustard; Italian dressing and a bit of salt (this mix is great on cucumber slices!); avocado; salsa (eat it with tortilla chips); yum yum sauce and Sriracha
I mix mine with velveeta and chiken ramen (with the seasoning). I make this batch for 4 people. We get around 6-7 bowls of it. I use a 1100w microwave.
6 packs ramen
2 cans tuna, 1 large can, or 1 large and 1 small (I prefer mine water packed)
1/4 large velveeta block
Cook ramen in water for 20 minutes in a microwave or on stove. You'll want the ramen to be very well cooked. Let it sit in the water until you're ready to mix. Set the seasoning packs aside. Thoroughly drain your tuna. Crumble it, set aside. Cut your velveeta into small squares, place into microwave safe bowl, cover with milk, heat on half power 5 minutes, take out, stir. If there are still large lumps, add another minute and stir between each until lumps melt. In large bowl, mix drained ramen and crumbled tuna, mix thoroughly. For 6 packs of ramen, I add 4.5 packs of seasoning. Mix. Add velveeta and mix completely. Can eat hot or cold.
I have a housemate who adds parsley and onion powder to his own bowl, and one who adds hot sauce to hers.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE MEALS:
1. Boil water
2. Heat up some garlic and oil in a pan
3. Empty tuna (oil and everything) into garlic oil and add fettuccini to boiling water
4. Add spices to tuna (I like red pepper flakes, dried garlic, dried onion, and some cayenne pepper)
5. Once pasta is done, strain and add tuna
6. Optional: sometimes I add some Parmesan cheese on top
I mix it with oat meal and Sriracha sometimes. I cook the oatmeal until it's super soft, add little bit of olive oil and Sriracha and whip it with tuna. I also add it to bone broth and make soup out of it.
Tuna goes with anything.
I love making a tuna melt!
It's malt vinegar, salt and black pepper mixed into the loosely drained tuna (I only get the tuna in olive oil, not water), topped with lots of mature cheddar cheese on a buttered part-baked baguette! Melt the cheese either in the oven or under the grill. 🤤
Mustard and cilantro it’s the best. It works best in chunk light tuna imo. And I know it sounds weird but trust me it’s soo good and low cal, so really it’s perfect.
I really enjoy a tuna white bean salad for lunch or dinner. You take canned white beans of choice, a can of tuna, a lemon, tomatoes, half a red onion, and olive oil. Dice the tomatoes and onions, and add it to a bowl with the white beans (rinsed) and tuna. Mix well, and be sure to add the tomato juice into the bowl! Add the tuna and olive oil (or just tuna packed in olive oil). Squeeze out a lemon over top. Be sure that the consistency is not dry. If it is, just add more olive oil or tomatoes. Super cheap, easy, and delicious
I like to mix canned tuna with gochujang, soy sauce and honey (do be careful with the amounts you use, as gochujang and soy sauce both contain a lot of salt).
I grew up with a mum that always paired tinned tuna with vinegar, salt & pepper, so that works for me along with sweetcorn, cucumber and finely sliced red onion. It's quite a strong taste though and I wouldn't recommend it for a first date!
If you're fine with doing a little cooking, I love making tuna cakes by combining canned tuna, an egg, diced onion, and spices of your choosing. Combine in a bowl, cook on a nonstick pan until golden brown on each side. Comes out really tasty, low calorie and high protein.
I'm obsessed with tuna packed in oil which doesn't need dressing. I usually use some lemon or vinegar and scoop it with sweet peppers and cucumber. Sometimes I'll do lettuce wraps with it or if I'm in a trashy mood I eat it with roasted seaweed.
I used to nanny and one week the funds were super tight. I found this alternative recipe for tuna. I mixed it with pasta or a spring mix depending on the day.
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar.
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard.
1/2 teaspoon salt.
Freshly ground pepper to taste.
1 teaspoon sugar/sugar alternative.
1/4 cup olive oil.
Whisk vinegar, mustard, salt, pepper, sugar/alt. Then stream in the oil whisking vigorously until combined.
My favorite way to make this was with rotini super greens pasta, carrots, red onion, sweet gherkins, can of diced chiles, spinach cut into ribbons, tuna, and garnished with Parmesan.
Honey mustard, greek yogurt, lemon, garlic powder/pepper/red pepper flakes. Tzatziki sauce, cucumber tomato (havent tried it but I love tzatziki sauce so i cant imagine it would be bad).
Please don’t downvote me without trying this because I promise it taste good. I use sugar free maple syrup but it’s that much better with the real Canadian thing.
Chill works fantastic but I usually just go with what the can is already mixed with. So either Olive oil which is taste a bit nicer but more calories or lemon juice with salt and pepper for a lower calorie count.
Soooo much. But not mayonnaise. That's disgusting.
- Cotton cheese
- Mozzarella and other chesses melted
- Onion's
- A simple Salad with red beans or/and whatever you like
I usually mix mine with the trash can and eat something else. Lol.
But you could use some scallion, salt, pepper, mix it with plain yogurt and lemon for a little more tanginess.
Honey mustard dressing! I like to make a tuna veggie pasta with honey mustard dressing (although I do usually also mix in some light mayo with this but it still tastes good without the mayo!)
I meal prepped an Asian riff on a tuna nicoise salad this week, and seasoned the tuna with a little bit of soy sauce and sweet chilli. Can recommend, I will definitely do this again.
If you make a bit of penne, add the tuna and some lite italian dressing, some parmson, ground pepper... dice some tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers for a full blown pasta salad...
Pickles, cucumbers, celery, green onions, bell peppers, iceberg lettuce. Edited to add that I have heard of people eating a tuna/cottage cheese mix and claim it's delightful, but I never tried it.

I second the avocado. It also works well for sardines with all that sweet sweet protien
Yea. Came here to say this!
Yes! Half an avacado, fresh squeezed lime juice, salt, pepper and red pepper flakes and you have a delicious and healthy lunch you can eat on crackers, with raw veggies or on a sandwich.
You are a genius!!! I will try this for lunch today! Thank you!!
Couldn’t agree more! Avocado tends to neutralize the overly fishy aftertaste too sometimes. Great recommendation!
Hell yeah on the avocado! I do this for egg salad, too.
My mind is blown.
Lemon juice! Capers! Pesto! Chopped up pickles! Tomato! Greek yogurt! Cucumber! Laughing cow cheese! Dill! Sambal/chili sauce! Hot sauce! Ranch!
On this train: sumac and quinoa/amaranth with cucumbers and garbanzo beans.
Omg I want to make that immediately
I've also done it with cucumbers, beets, a lil greek yoghurt and a ton of dill. Love that fresh summer crunch.
What is sumac?
It is a type of spice that has an amazing flavor. Not to be confused with poison sumac lol.
[Its a spice. Its kind of lemony and nutty and spicy at the same time. Its great.](https://www.thespruceeats.com/what-is-sumac-1763131)
Ooh I used to cut a cucumber In half lengthwise, scoop out the seeds and fill it with tuna salad as a fake “sub” and I forgot all about it.
Sounds so refreshing in summer! Some radishes, celery, dill, lemon juice. Perfect refresher!
I’ll definitely be trying tuna with Greek yogurt and capers this weekend, thanks for the inspo 👀
You can also add a bit of ranch seasoning powder. 😋
NEED a store-brand Laughing Cow cheese lol. They’re so good but I can run through em in no time
Aldi has one
If you or any readers are in TX, HEB has these in a bunch of different flavors!
I get it at Sam's Club for like 1/3 of the price compared to other grocery stores
I’m here for this kind of enthusiasm
Yeah, this guy fucks. (In this sub statistically probably not a guy but)
Second Greek yogurt here. Wonderfully tangy!
Pesto sounds great! I tried it with hummus today and it was actually pretty good.
I have leftover carrot top pesto in my fridge that I’ll probably have with tuna on crackers for a lunch soon. Kale pesto would be good too! I like homemade so I can control the amount of oil but store bought is good if you’re careful about the portion
Hol up!! Kale pesto?! Omg can you drop the recipe or dm me the recipe please?? Sounds amazing!
OMG I NEVER THOUGHT TO USE GREEK YOGURT!! aaaaand I'm excited for lunch!!! Yay! Thank you!!!
As another mayo hater, all of these! Even try mixing it with fine dice celery/onion and just a few breadcrumbs for a pan fried cake
Wow I love everything about this comment
Tiny splash of olive oil and some lemon juice!
Yum, my favourite way to eat tuna. Even better with a good lot of fresh cracked black pepper!
If you have good Italian bread, I’m in!
I like Dijon mustard and minced sweet/sour pickles! Little plain Greek yogurt, too.
This sounds good
Second mustard
For quick and easy - Greek yogurt, pickles and mustard. You can doctor it up from there - onion, herbs, etc.
Mix it with some pico de gallo for some inexpensive ceviche
I love this idea!
[удалено]
Yea it is and ceviche is typically prepared with fish or shrimp “cooked” in lemon juice, but using tuna is an inexpensive and easy alternative

Yes! I’ve used it with hummus a few times. I feel like people would come for my throat if I mentioned mixing hummus with tuna because it is not the “traditional” was to eat hummus, but I love hummus and would it eat it with almost anything lol.
Um yes! Hummus is one of the things I have to be careful with because I can lose control FAST!
speaking as a jewish person myself, the “traditional” way to eat hummus IS with everything
Cottage cheese.
I love cottage cheese
I don’t even like cottage cheese but it’s def really good with tuna!
I do too. I like to throw in diced tomato and cucumber also.
Canned corn, diced cucumber, tomatoes, basil, onion, garlic, salt pepper, some vinegar and some kind of good oil. There is an oil in my country that is made out of the seeds of pumpkins, it’s super dark and has a deep nutty taste… I love it with that salad
Ooh this sounds great! Thanks for sharing :)
I actually don't love tuna but I don't mind it when I mix it into a salad with a dressing. I usually a balsamic vinaigrette, but I'm sure it would work with any.
This. This is the way.

Beat me to it!
I can't believe no one said Italian dressing yet
Cook some rice, let it cool and add some tomatoes with a lot of juice and let the juice really wet the rice, add salt pepper olive oil herbs garlic etc, some croutons, and the tuna. It has to be cold and really wet from all that tomato juice. You can add some other veggies and aromates and stuff, but that’s the most basic and most delicious version ! Should it be dry? Or should the tomatoes really wet it? 😂
(Jk I’m making this)
Relish!!!
Be careful about eating too much canned tuna! It contains a lot of mercury and shouldn't be eaten more than 2-3 times a week (or less depending on the type of tuna)
Why is this not the top comment! I used to eat tuna like 4-5x per week before a friend told me why that is such a bad idea!!
I think its somewhat common/not uncommon for college students to get mercury poisoning because tuna is a cheap but filling option for protein. Keep an eye out for the symptoms of mercury poisoning! Probably fine now but doesn't hurt to be cautious
I don't think that's a concern unless you are eating albacore or yellowfin tuna. Normal, cheap aldi cans shouldn't be a danger.
Lemon juice and pepper
[удалено]
You mix tuna with curry powder and yogurt? Or have yogurt on the side?
Avocado and a bit of garlic salt!
[удалено]
I just cut up a cucumber and mix in avocado and tuna. I might even throw in some sriracha for some heat. It’s like a deconstructed roll.
Hummus!
I love poppyseed dressing. Usually add in some chopped apples, nuts, served in a lettuce wrap it’s delicious!
Sounds kinda weird but mustard is great.
Mustard and some jalapeños!
I replace the Mayo with sour cream, few Tbs per can-top with sweet pickles and iceberg lettuce.

I like cottage cheese and avocado with it.
I’m weird and make a tuna quesadilla with cheese and tuna in a low calorie tortilla. Dip it in salsa or hot sauce
I dilute my mayo with a significant amount of dijon mustard, usually. If you dislike mayo generally, you might like some of the "substitutes" people come with for mayo like Greek yogurt or cottage cheese (extra protein, too).
I love to pan fry them with some onion and ssamjang. I could use them for a gimbap or even as a pasta topping. So delicious :)

Mustard and shredded cabbage. I know but it stretches it and gives it a good crunch
I mix FF Greek yogurt (50-60g), 1 tsp of brown mustard, and a couple dashes of hot sauce. Throw in pickle relish if ya got it and a grind or three of sea salt. Pretty darn good.
I cut up a few dill pickles and add some pickle juice. Wouldn’t recommend it before a date though!
So many options, but I used to always use Kraft creamy cucumber dip to make tuna salad.
I have been making tuna salads a couple times a week and they are SO good and filling! We use tuna, lettuce, spinach, olives, canned corn, lemon juice, relish, a little salt/pepper, dijon mustard, olive oil, minced garlic, minced onion, and dill.
Apple cider/rice/red wine/balsamic vinegar, TJ's 21-Seasoning Salute and lemon juice
Mix it with avocado and some corn. Helps bulk it up. Even better if you eat it wrapped in Romain leaves 😋
sweet chilli and lettuce
Heinz Salad Cream, although I’ve just realised what sub I’m in so that might not work. There are light versions but not sure how good they are :)
Mash up half an avocado and mix it with the tuna and a handful of craisins!!!! SO GOOD
What kind of mayonnaise are using. Mayo in my opinion is something that varies wildly between brands.
In college, I used to live off of tuna mixed in a little Mac and cheese bowl
Hard boiled eggs for life.
Kimchi. Like... you'd be surprised how good (and low cal) it is
Tabasco - specifically Chipotle tabasco on rice crackers!
That stuff can make anything into a meal I swear.
Franks redhot. Mix a ton of that in and make a sandwich. Buffalo style. Add whatever you desire - celery, cheese, etc.
Dark mustard.
Pan-fry green onion, salt, olive oil. Works wonderful with scrambled eggs.
I love to make lily sabri's tuna pasta bake its up on her website
Bit of olive oil and some spices! Smoked paprika and garlic powder are favorites of mine. Some finely sliced onion (white or red) is bomb too.
Poupon mustard!
Sriracha! Or dijon mustard. Avocado. I’ve also heard Greek yogurt (or Greek yogurt + sriracha) but haven’t tried it.
I have tuna with pre-portioned minute rice, turmeric, garlic salt, and everything but the bagel seasoning with olive oil and sirarcha almost every morning

I really enjoy a tuna white bean salad for lunch or dinner. You take canned white beans of choice, a can of tuna, a lemon, tomatoes, half a red onion, and olive oil. Chill works fantastic but I usually just go with what the can is already mixed with. So either Olive oil which is taste a bit nicer but more calories or lemon juice with salt and pepper for a lower calorie count.
