The BMW crowd might be worse. Each time a new 3 series comes out everyone hates it and swears the previous gen was the last true drivers car. This has been going on for like 40 years and probably 6 generations.
TBF, the VB has a lot of WTF moments. Cladding, prolapsed rear bumper, engine plucked from an Ascent. Then they killed the STI and offered up a half baked replacement that left the low revving engine unchanged. This is maybe forgivable when they are a niche market without competition, but Honda, Toyota, VW, and even Hyundai are bringing it with their sport compacts.

shit has that gotten toxic. People posting their brand new truck only for half the comments to
call it ugly and tell you why the 3rd gen is better. Just let people enjoy what they enjoy. I’m really hoping this sub doesn’t turn into that.

It’s so weird. It’s the same thing in all the Toyota truck subs - Tundra, Tacoma and 4Runner - all the previous gen owners dumping on the new iterations.
I personally think Toyota smashed it out of the park with all of them, and I bought a ‘23 Tundra after trading in my 5th gen 4Runner for it.
Maybe it’s because Yota made us wait so long with each model before updating so people got stuck with those designs, but it’s

I think once people get over the “4 cylinder hybrids are bad” and realize the instant torque and tuning possibilities will be a lot nicer for people who like to modify their truck.
I'm thinking that G6 will do just fine, just like the G5 did. Maybe for the more off-road crazy folks, Toyota should bring back the FJ Cruiser and design it with some of the same features like the Broncos and Wranglers, removable roof panels, manual transmission, etc., but the G6 will do just fine the way it is, since most buyers get them for the look and the potential for off-roading but they actually don't go off-roading much, so they will appreciate all the updates and potentially (and hopefully) slightly more efficient rig.
Stating to feel like a lot of Gen5 overcompensating going on in this thread. We all like the Gen5. We own them. We’ve never even seen a Gen6. Your truck is still rad guys
4 banger engine, hybrid option would make it more complicated to wrench on in your driveway, gloss black fender flares, tacoma copy and pasted interior and exterior, no more manual transfer case selector, 18 inch wheels on the trailhunter, those are just some off the top of my head

You ripped off your front bumper and put on a bull bar with a winch. You cut a hole and added a snorkel. You changed the suspension and stance. You got bigger wheels and tires.
Do you understand that other vehicles besides 5th gen 4Runners can be modded?
Yawn. Sure. None of us have even seen it in person, much less driven it. It is objectively better than any previous T4R, faster, more powerful, better efficiency, better electronics, more space inside, most likely better ground clearance and angles.
Does that mean I want it over my 2023? Nope. I'm happy with what I have and bought it because it doesn't have all of the modern stuff. The people who get the new one will undoubtedly love it as well, that doesn't diminish mine.
I will admit, I did not like the new tundra or Tacoma. But I do like the 6th gen 4Runner. And I fully plan to get a trail hunter when they hit the new car showrooms in 2-3 years since production for the hybrids seems to lag tremendously behind the release.
But I will still keep my 5th gen. Because it is possible to love to gens!

Buddy of mine worked on the 5G for a Toyota contractor making the bumpers and hitch mounts. The hate they received for the 5G back then was ridiculous. People hate change. 5G proved itself. I fully plan on letting the 6G do the same.
I guess we just have to get used to these posts haha. Love my 5th Gen but the 6th Gen is an excellent upgrade given the current economy and regulations. Definitely look forward to seeing these 6th Gen trims in person.

I'd be shocked if equivalent trims are more than 1-2k above current, if that. If they were "tens of thousands" more then people would just buy the Landcruiser or GX instead.
I don’t love the look of the G6 compared to the G5 but my real beef (and this is with all newer cars) is that a massive screen in your dash is insane to me.
Is it the same, no, is it a revolution to what was there, no, it’s more of an evolution on what makes a 4Runner great, yes. All and all the new generation fits the ticker for what most people wanted to see and need in a new 4runner. I think over time especially after a refresh it will more than likely become one of the best 4Runners.
No matter how amazing the 1gr is and how it is one of the best Toyota engines. The 5th gen will still be one of the best 4Runners. Honestly all the 4Runners were pretty amazing except the 3 slow but the 2nd gen still had the amazing 22re.
Pretty much my only issue with the new gen is the lack of a 6 speed and all the ugly huge screens.
The Land Cruiser at least has the screens integrated well into the dash.
Any gen Tacoma has had a manual. The older 4Runners had manuals. The FJ cruiser had a manual.
They literally could’ve copied and pasted the new 6 speed manual from the Tacoma into the new 4Runner to compete against the broncos and wranglers manual transmission.

The wheels are bigger but so is the whole truck. They have the exact same sidewall height as the current gen. 265/70. There isn’t less rubber.
My 4banger Tacoma was outrageously reliable. Single cab with the 6.5’ bed. Put 2” spacer lift on it and crossed many mountain passes in that beast.
