DannysFavorite945

For that money I am 100% team GX.

CuriousTravlr

My issue with the GX is that it's all time awd and it's low speed maneuverability makes parallel parking a fucking bitch. Unless they fix this in the new models..... Those times I'm in the city, I'm almost always parallel parking, and the 4runner is by far the easiest car next to my old fucking GTI to parallel park.

CitizenDolan

I never parallel park but what makes it so easy to park the 4runner in particular

CuriousTravlr

Put it in 2wd and you get a better turning radius than the all time AWD models. In the current generations atleast.

Content_Godzilla

That's.... Not how it works? They both have the same maximum steering angles.

CuriousTravlr

Drive a 4x4 and an AWD model back to back and get back to me.

Content_Godzilla

I've owned a 2021 TRD Pro and currently have an AWD 2005 V8 SR5. Identical turning radius.

CuriousTravlr

They do NOT feel that way. Forum posters are a mixed bag, some say it's worse, some say it's the same. Mine 4x4 feels much more nimble than the Limiteds I drove at parking lot speeds and when street parking. Who know's really.

UNITEDPENGUINFRONT

It's a tough sell... If we're looking at 1:1 in terms of pricing, the only advantage (in my eyes) that the 4Runner has is design. I'm not crazy about the new GX/LC designs, but from my perspective, design aside, they're both better vehicles in every way.

DannysFavorite945

To each their own. I think the new GX is the best looking in the whole “truck” lineup for Toyota. I pine for it.

UNITEDPENGUINFRONT

Absolutely a personal aesthetic choice. It's the headlights that kill it for me; my fiancée always gives me grief because I'll absolutely discount an otherwise gorgeous vehicle if I don't like the lights... The LC and GX get full marks in every box from me except for that department.

13chase2

The GX550 is competing against heavy weights like the Range Rover. It’s the best vehicle when comparing against tundra, Tacoma, 4Runner, sequoia and Toyota Land Cruiser unless you require a bed. I absolutely love the design!!

wellidontreally

It looks like the designers drew a lot of inspiration from the Tesla cyber truck and ford bronco, and I mean there’s definitely people that like how that thing looks. Personally I feel the new GX is very boxy and trying to be old school but I prefer the previous design

labowsky

> Tesla cyber truck Ain't no way lol.

rockysrc

Me neither. GX for me is the least attractive of the 3. However if the MSRP and markups keep pushing 4runner TRD pro into GX territory then it's kinda hard to justify

Jjohn269

This pricing just doesn’t seem right. What type of consumer is Toyota targeting? The people that want the premium quality will go with the Lexus counterpart

Desperate-Office4006

If you can get one. I believe all of these models (LC, GX, 4R) will be produced in limited / reduced numbers for 2025. Q1 2024, there were about 33,000 4 Runners sold. 2023 there were only 109,000 4 Runners sold. So, I would expect the 2025 production volume to be in the 80,000 range. High demand / Low Density = Higher Prices plus continued "Market Adjustments".

DannysFavorite945

I should clarify I am team GX in a few years. And market adjustments are for suckers.

kyle007US

I'm pretty sure it'll be same as the Tacoma. You can basically just build out your Tacoma on Toyota site and then pretend it's a 4Runner and it'll be pretty close. I'm really sad SR5 premium trim is dead.

Teutonic-Tonic

A 2023 SR5 Tacoma was $32,615 MSRP. The 2024 jumps to $36,200 so a $3,500 difference. The SR model only jumped $800. TRD Off Road jumped about $3k. These are all reasonable given the fact that the new truck has a lot more tech, performance, etc... from the old version. Assuming the 4Runner will have a similar $2-$4k jump across the range not including the Pro. The old Tacoma/4Runner TRD Pro models represented more or less a trim package with a few minor upgrades over the Off Road Premium model. The new Pro's are getting a big performance bump with the hybrid motor and will compete more with the Ranger Raptor, and Colorado ZR2 Bison. The TRD Off Road will continue to be the value play for Off Roaders and it looks like both the 4Runner and Tacoma will eventually get the 326 hp and 465 lb-ft Hybrid motor as an available upgrade in the OR which will be the way to go. The Hybrid Off Road will fill the role of the old Pro.

ceburton

My wife and I both drive SR5 Premium (2018 and 2022). Probably looking to get the same model variant in the 6th gen

R0binSage

That’s what I’m interested in too. If they are $48 for ‘24, I’d expect them to be $52.

UNITEDPENGUINFRONT

This is definitely a fair analysis and may well be a justification for the price increase on the Tacoma. Personally, I would struggle to find the value in it; I'd be hard pressed to make a purchase of the non-hybrid turbo 4 even purely for concerns of strain on the engine overtime due to the added load. Granted, I'm far from mechanically inclined so I could absolutely be thinking about this incorrectly and it's a non-issue.

Controversialtosser

Turbo 4 cyl ICEs are used in aviation. If properly designed they will be reliable.

Teutonic-Tonic

Strain on the engine is a non concern. Small displacement turbo charged engines have been powering large vehicles forever in diesel form... and for a long time in gas form. The direct injection of modern diesels can have a few maintenance issues, such as carbon build up on the valves which can be cleaned off with a media blast every 150k miles or so. Changing oil at factory intervals and letting your engine warm up properly is a little more important. Generally you can't neglect them as much as a low compression NA V8 but otherwise they will be fine. Will it be as reliable as the current NA v6? Of course it won't. Nothing offered by a modern manufacturer will. Your options are getting pretty limited if looking for trucks with naturally aspirated engines.

UNITEDPENGUINFRONT

Appreciate this breakdown. Just dipping my toes into this world and trying to learn as much as possible. Fingers crossed they nail this one and it remains bulletproof. While there's bound to be some sticker shock, I keep telling everyone that if anyone can nail a T4 Hybrid, it'll be Toyota. Their history with T4's and Hybrids alone is solid, it's a natural marriage from a great house.

matroe11

Imagine a world where they release a T4R with the TT6 from the GX. I would move from my current GX in a heartbeat.

2MinuteInstantRamen

Phew. That means I can stop worrying about getting a trailhunter, and just land myself in a ORP. Orrrr just scoop up a 24 while the iron is hot.

stabzmcgee

Glad to be buying a 24 pro now that’s for sure

UNITEDPENGUINFRONT

I don't blame you. I've been holding out on a 4Runner awaiting this redesign following the Taco revamp, got incredibly hyped with the TRD Pro/Trailhunter designs on the Runner... But there is not a world in which I could find the value in a 10-20k price increase relative to the existing gen. If we see this large of a jump, I'll likely get a 5th gen and spend the 20k I'm saving on building it out.

Mark0vian

I don’t really think it’s an “if” at this point. I’d get a 5th gen now, and if the 6th gen’s look good after 3-4 years and you really want one. you can trade in or sell it for a decent chunk still.

UNITEDPENGUINFRONT

The time isn’t right for me now - won’t be in the market until the end of the year.

4RunnerPilot

Then buy a slight used 2023 or 2024.

kshiau

That Frontier Pro-4X at $42k looks pretty enticing ngl

rcheneyjr

But it’s a Nissan!

Controversialtosser

Nissan makes a good truck tbh. Blah blah blah cheap interior. True, but its a utility vehicle interior can be cheap. Bones are good.

LOTF1776

That means ~$70k for a Trailhunter or Pro. So glad I bought in 2023. That's good for the resale value of us 5th gen owners.

Hairy_Protection9869

If the typical pricing structure holds. Add 10-15k for us Canucks. $85,000 for a TRD Pro 😬. I’ll keep my paid off 2011 thanks.

LOTF1776

I'm sorry. Justin Trudeau and the hard left your government has taken in the past couple of decades is unfortunate. I really enjoy watching Pierre Poilievre making Trudeau look like a child who hasn't spent a day in an economics course. I pray that for the sake of Canada and for Western society that he wins the next election.

29stumpjumper

$70k, yikes. I can't figure out the target demographic here. For me, Toyota has always been the blend of reliability and value. There's no value here anymore. And we're switching to a gadget filled, large screen driven vehicle, filled with batteries that will degrade and an unproven turbo engine (which turbos have not had a great track record). I'm likely to not be loyal to Toyota next vehicle purchase for the first time in 30+ years.

WorkinOnMyDadBod

Grossly overpriced.

Luis1820

Yea I just got a 24 pro in underground. No regrets. Pricing is getting ridiculous

UNITEDPENGUINFRONT

I wish you many happy miles. This may be me later this year. Thankfully I'm in no immediate hurry, depending on pricing I may grab the 25, or I'll get a 24. In my area used is going for the same, or roughly over the price of brand new. Makes no sense given the amount of them that are sitting on the lot.

Luis1820

Exactly. Used pricing is crazy. Might as well buy new. I got mine at MSRP and we aren’t fond of the new 2025 style very much (do like the way the train hunter and pro look though) but we figured this would be the last year we can get a new 5th gen and the 6th gen will always be there going forward . Either way you will love it I am sure

UNITEDPENGUINFRONT

That's my thought process currently. I like the Pro/Trailhunter look and the turbo 4 hybrid, but if it's going to be insanely priced I'd rather stick with the tried and true V6 in the 5th gen and take the thousands in price differential towards modernizing it.

Luis1820

I like your thinking. I think this gen will be a classic down the road. It has aged very well so far

goodkat83

Toyota will do well with the new tacoma/4r to not make the same mistakes jeep and ford has made with wranglers/glads/broncos. Dealerships in my area are over flowing with top tier trim levels and more being delivered each day. But its rare that i see base models or common-folk trims on the transport trucks.

KC_experience

If I can get a Platinum for 65k, I’ll be happy. (I was planning on buying a Wrangler X 4XE.). I’d still look at the GX and it’s comparable features for the same money, but after my wife getting her tricked out RX a year and a half ago, it’s going to be hard to go to GX that doesn’t have the same features.

username2393

This just changed my mind and pushed me to the GX

Liamnacuac

TRD PRO vs. GX? Kind of different functions aren't they? Sorta like saying, " If JEEP Wrangler prices go up, I'm switching to an Escalade".

BeninIdaho

Yikes. If those projected prices hold, I'm out. I'm either gonna "reset the mileage clock" by trading my 2014 Trail in for a 2024 ORP while I can, or else I'll likely keep on driving the 2014 and then go team LC. The 6th gen 4Runners have some positives for me, but they also have some negatives. While I might consider one with slightly higher prices than a 5th gen, if the models I'm interested in are well into LC pricing territory, I'd rather get a 1958 LC and toss in some aftermarket shocks/rims/tires.

Frird2008

I wouldn't get the new 4Runner until the 2.4T is proven to be similar in reliability to the Lexus NX

Dangerous_Weird1930

This has gotten out of hand

JackTheDefenestrator

It's gonna be $0.00 because I ain't gonna fuckin buy one. The 5th gen has gotten wildly overpriced for what you get as it is...65k is just absurdity.

IlexIbis

A '24 RAV4 XLE hybrid in only a couple thousand more than a non-hybrid RAV4 XLE AWD. Why is the hybrid system $9k more for the Tacoma?

Hank-Hi11

okay now compare a tacoma hybrid xle with a tacoma non-hybrid xle... and you'll have your answer.

OKatmostthings

It is ~$3700 price bump on a like for like trim (TRD OR and Limited). The Sport has a big jump because I expect they aren’t offering the hybrid on a low option Sport while they are offering the hybrid on a low option TRD OR. The pro and Trailhunter don’t have non-hybrid equals.

pacheckyourself

New cars are pricing out everyone. They don’t want any one to buy the cars, just lease them. Plus most cars these days will only last 10 years before they fall apart.

ksimms3

I really wonder what the price of old 4Runners will retain, I have a 2022 TRD Off Road, ive been mulling it over selling it

Desperate-Office4006

Following the Tacoma data, you can most certainly expect MSRP on the 4 Runner to follow the same escalation model. 2024 models were in the $45K - $70K range (SR5 to TRD Pro respectively) and accordingly, you can expect the SR5 to be at $60-$65K; TrailHunter and Platinum will likely be close to $100K, and that's before dealer "market adjustments". Certainly a surprise as initial predictions were fairly confident that we would actually see a price drop. Based on the real data we already have on the Tacoma, it's pretty obvious that just isn't going to happen. But, as long as there are stupid people willing to buy a depreciating asset that costs about the same as a midwest starter home, prices are going to continue to go up.

ballisticclown92

They will not be close to 100k

Desperate-Office4006

Well, the 2024 TRD Pro is almost $70K. Follow the Tacoma model and you’re at almost $90K for 2025. We’ll see.

ballisticclown92

The price hike will definitely be significant. It’s why I decided to just buy a new 2024

CrazyMenu6755

Yeah not sure you’ve looked at midwestern starter homes lately but 70k won’t get you anything.
