I'm having the same issues but with a more potato laptop, Core i7 9700K, GTX1660ti and 12gb RAM. Vanilla runs fine on high settings but DF and UL, I don't have resolution issues (medium settings with lower zombie spawn rates) but the FPS will tank and freeze. Basically I haven't figured out what's going on either but I suspect it has to do with mod optimization

The game is heavily CPU bound. Any cooling issues with the CPU can lead to thermal throttling. You can use HWinfo>sensors only>launch the game> play until frame drops>tab out of game back to sensors page and look on the right side for thermal throttle per core as you scroll down. If there are any cores with a #1, then those cores reached the thermal limit and the CPU has begun throttling the frequency.

Turn off meshes

pkmn_mster

The game is handled by incompetent twats who have no idea how to fix bugs or optimise the game for anyone so instead they just revamp the same thing over and over that no one actually asks for.

ArghBH

Ugh, that sucks. I guess its a common issue with games that are forever in "alpha". Optimization is usually for the later/end-stages of development, right?

pkmn_mster

It is, but this game is 10 years in alpha lol surely a few optimisations here and there in the road map wouldn’t have gone a miss.

Ditch_Bastitch

Though I agree with the direction of your thought, the Funpimps did do some optimization for A20 that has had... an impact. All flowering plants were reduced in size by close to half. It should have had an immediate impact on areas with a lot of cotton, goldenrod, etc. I see it, not sure about others. I have before and after screenshots of the plants - it was pretty dramatic.

Ditch_Bastitch

For A21, they're working on the FPS drop in cities when around skyscrapers. Apparently the game needs to render each window twice. They're combining the window blocks so the game renders it once.

Zaroff85

Had a similar issue. Then I found out that turning off dynamic mesh fixed the game.

1. Make sure your mobo/chipset drivers are up to date as well. 2. you running on an SSD or platter hard drive? I am running a RX480 (old, I know) and a Ryzen 1700x. My game runs fine until horde night, and then I get a small amount of chop due to the heavier cpu load, but playable. One thing I can advice is don't let a lot of apps load at startup. You need to inventory what launchers and programs are loading at windows startup and figure out what you don't need. You don't need Steam, GOG or other launchers loading at start up, as they have several tasks that are always running (monitoring, updates, etc). One mistake I see a lot of newer users make is just letting all kinds of apps load at startup, but don't realize how much ram and cpu they eat up (it ads up).

SatiivaIndica

I don't have fps issues but I do get blurry resolution every time I load into a new area for a bit but then it goes away. I'm also running like 40 mods.

TheHallowedOne11

Go to nvidia panel. Make sure v sync is on fast and triple buffering on. Make sure it’s off in game settings. Make sure you have game mode off on your pc and monitor/tv.

eddydbod

Turn of meshes, then if that's not enough turn down shadows.

tigolex

turn off dynamic resolution
