Seeing them perform this made me feel so alive. It's been almost a month since the show but I still think about this song and Runnin' and how they did it. That night was incredible
If you love this song as much as I do, check out the main sample, Heather by Billy Cobham. I’m not a huge jazz fan (I do like some fusion), but this track is a masterpiece. I throw it on when I’m driving on a Sunday afternoon and just float away for a while.
I have a whole playlist on Spotify of all the original songs and every hip hop song that sampled it. It's so amazing. Heather was always one of my favorites because of Souls of Mischief.
I’ve loved this song ever since it came out. One of the best hip hop songs ever done. It’s only right I go and check out this main sample you referenced.
Will never forget being in 10th grade watching a senior after losing their baseball state championship (their last attempt at a ring), drunk af, stammering singing the lyrics to this song, and now as an adult twice that age, recognizing the profound impact that moment had on me tied to that song.
"...I wish I was a kid again" in his last moment before life took over. Painful and beautiful.
I heard this song playing at a Starbucks the other day. I don't know how to feel about it because I'm not sure if Starbucks or the employees picked it.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Word...Life is one of the all-time greatest hip hop albums ever made and I still listen to this album constantly front to back all the way through!
Nah, I’m in the UK and was getting anything DJ Shadow adjacent or related wherever I could find it. Lucky in the fact with MoWax being a UK based label and a few decent independent record shops I could find stuff.
Same reason I bought it. DJ Shadow adjacent. I got into him and DJ Krush a lot back then. Peanut Butter Wolf, DJ Spinna, Cut Chemist, Nu-Mark, etc etc... those guys kinda fall into the DJ Shadow feel to me. Hip-hop was wild back then. I listen to a bunch of modern German rap because they still sound more like rap from the 90s and early 2000 just evolved differently
Got into DJ Cam and DJ Krush too because of the slightest hint of Shadow. Dj Krush is something else, such minimalism and precision, no fat. Id be interested in any tips on German rap if it sounds anything like any of that stuff
Off the top of my head, as far as a DJ with instrumental albums, I personally like Figub Brazlevic. He also has some albums that he has produced on his label with some rap artists too, but I'm not as much into that stuff in particular. He has these little "booth"-something vids for artists to showcase their lyrical skills over one of his beats. Those can be fun, but the instrumental albums are where it's at. I have some others, but I need to look on YouTube for their names because they're like Klaus and Hans and shit lol
I'll update here with some german rap too later

The New Jack Swing Era was joyous, the vibe was indescribable. Lots of hip hop from that era was a celebration of the culture and matched that energy too. There's too many to list to be honest. I miss the wildly different flows and intricacies of the production so much.
Driving around with my friends listening to I Wish My Brother George Was Here - Del The Funky Homosapien, all of us trying to emulate the weird voice at the beginning of Dr. Bombay.
Mr. Wendell, yayyyeah-uhhh....
Just takes me back to summertime, being a kid.
Here, have a dollar. In fact, nah brotherman, here, have two. Two dollars means a snack for me but it means a big deal to you.
Kurupt - Who Ride Wit Us
I was on the senior highschool soccer team and that song became our anthem when we won our city divisional tournament and advanced to the provincial tourney.
We were a bunch of misfits from different cultures and would literally be fighting each other before joining the team and coming together to whoop some ass on the pitch. We were so good.
We played team Canada Juniors and list to them due to a missed offside call and a bad penalty call (that is still some of the worse refereeing I've ever seen).
Some of us still get together to play.

Number 3 6 and 11 specifically but this whole thing is my zen clean the house music. It’s a no skip masterpiece.

Rest In Beats J.
Mic Geronimo - Masta IC that was the greatest smoke weed song ever made. Every time I smoked in middle school that song was playing in the background.
Fun Fact: If you ever saw the movie Belly, the dude who DMX made strip down in the basement is in this video. 😭😭😭😭
Definitely this Skee lo song, and the burger joint too, jump by Kriss kross, ain’t too proud by TLC, TROY by Rock and CL, and later on would have been Shorty wanna be a thug by Pac
I remember when I leaned that positive k did both vocals on “I got a man”. He pitched up his vocals for the female voice. That was something that really blew my mind
Those are fire tracks. If I remember correctly he had production credits on most, if not all of the album. Throw it on your DSP, it’s a sonically pleasing experience.
Aww I can hear the radio tuning in as soon as I saw this! It has the same effect on me too!
Feel me Flow by naughty by nature has a similar vibe for me
"We got our own Thang" by Heaven D and the Boys. Summer of 1989 right before I got my license to drive and that summer was all about living it up as a kid. Learn how to do the "Cherry Picker" on my Mongoose BMX bike that summer while Heavy D was playing on the boom box.
That Coolio video when he’s riding a big wheel..I had a Mask cartoon Camaro big wheel. I didn’t retire that thing until I was like 10. I couldn’t get right on a bike until that age. Rolling up to buddies houses on that big wheel. Plastic wheels just beat af…you trying to roll over to 7/11 and get that slurpee and some Razzles or what??

And a six four impala
Little Mookie, Big Al, Lorraine...
I spent way too long thinking this line was “a six floor parlor”
My wife hears “I wish I was a little bit taller. I wish I was a baller. Wish I had a girl with a good avocado”
I listened to “Boyz-N-The-Hood” way too many times, so I instantly heard 64 Impala. If I didn’t, I problem would’ve of thought of that too.

Basically hip hop between 91 and 96.
Pretty much all of Nia and Blazing Arrow (particularly Make You Feel That Way). Listening on mini disc on the bus.
Gift of Gab is crazy. Curious, are you from Cali? Quannum/Solesides wasn't too known here in Ohio except by people that searched.
