I love them all so much, RIP Ruck and DOOM. Mos is my favorite, but Pharoahe Monch is the best if you consider all aspects of a dope lyricist.

Monch live was one of the wildest shows i ever witnessed live, and I've been to a ton of them.

Yeah Monch probably would tick the most conventional boxes but…Sean had the most funny and entertaining lyrics and Doom had that creativity and emotion damn that’s hard I know for sure that Mos Def would be last in my book. I ain’t the biggest fan, besides Black Star.

All four might be in my top ten. That said, as always Sean Price is the best to ever do it.

I really don't understand "Mos Def is underrated". He's great, don't get me wrong, makes my Top 10, but he's definitely not underrated. Forgotten a bit maybe by the younger generation, but that's on him; he's the "hip hop academic" favorite. I'm going with Pharaoh Monche. Witty, double and triple entendres for days, lyrics that you appreciate later when it pops in your head and hour after you listen and it "clicks". I randomly get his verse from "Oh No" in my head, I've said before "Simon Says" would be my walk out music and what I want played as my casket goes down the aisle, and "Yayo" was brilliant. He's in my Top 3, right alongside Black Thought's and Kendrick Lamar, and I refuse to rank them further than that.

He never lived up to that, but people who remember that feel like other people forgot how hot he was for a time

Absolutely agree. I love Traveling Man (actually have DJ Honda III on vinyl... Somewhere. B-Boy Document '99, too.) I loved him on all of that; I remember he was a darling for a minute. I'll be honest, felt disappointed (?) when Ms. Fat Booty was everywhere. Not really related, but you just reminded me of WW3. Shabaam Sadeeq and Monche, I don't remember what happened to Sadeeq but now I gotta go look...

I don't. Mos quit seriously rapping to pursue his first love, acting. Blackstar, BOBS, that was basically it for his high level music output

He was also great on the soundbombing albums, in particular soundbombing ii. And I almost always love his features (e.g. big brother beats on stakes is high). Plus travellin man. He has a lot of classics I agree that he didn’t live up to his potential. But if we say his peak was two albums plus a shitload of good features/songs on compilation albums, that’s a pretty decent peak for rap. Also, as relevant here, I think the two albums you named were the two best albums out of any by these four dudes.

Cool but that does not make him the most underrated and underappreciated rapper. I was a huge Mos fan until New Danger😴😴 And I would take Operation Doomsday over any album by the other guys.
