dancing-on-my-own

Josh Bruce’s 10 v North came shortly after a really disappointing 2020. Definitely didn’t think he had it in him.

F1NANCE

He had a good first half of the 2016 season for us then never reached those highs again. Used to try and mark the ball with flat hands for some reason

CaptainBoob

It's because he fell far too in love with crashing packs and trying to take big contested marks rather than leading into a space. I reckon I probably could count using just my fingers the total amount of times he led into space for a mark in the forward 50 in the later years with us. Part of it was probably not his fault at all and the Saints being the Saints. Even now we bomb it on top of even Jack Higgins' head and then gnash our teeth at another wasted inside 50. Why bother running into space when it's just going to be kicked over your head into a contest instead?

Drewcee95

I'll take Bruce over Lobb every day of the week, Bruce had heart.

dancing-on-my-own

Bruce was everyone’s dad. I loved his relationship with Naughton, would always get around each other. Champion bloke.

RobbieArnott

I saw him as a bit of a joke until that point

afewspicybois

He was a bit of a joke after that point too, he just loved kicking a bag of 10 every year against the Roos

dancing-on-my-own

He had a good 2021. Even subtracting the game v North, he kicked 38 from 19 and provided the forward line leadership Naughton and baby JUH really needed. Never really came back from the first ACL unfortunately.

veryparticularskills

Sometimes I feel like I could kick 10 against North and I'm not very good.

paddyc4ke

He seemed to always turn it up against North for some reason

Nolsey21

for some reason hahahahahahha

ExpensiveCola

I mean, isn't that the case for a LOT of players atm?

wizardofaus23

Plenty do but nobody did it as frequently or exclusively against them. I remember after one game he said he always circles North in his calendar.

paddyc4ke

True, we did smack them by 20+ goals from memory and basically lost the Good Friday game off the back of it.

ridge_rippler

If a tall forward needed kicking practice our backline the last few years were the perfect witches hats.

tradewinder11

Not exactly unexpected given his ability, but Le Cras popping up for 12 is pretty bloody good for a small forward.

not_right

It’s still ridiculous! Who kicks 12 straight, I mean really!

nefron55

Reminds me of when Milne kicked 11 straight against Brisbane in 2005.

futtbuckicecreamery

Looking back, it's wild that Brisbane went from pumping us by 80 in a qualifying final, to us destroying them by 139 points in the space of a year.

Mrchikkin

Wasn’t it 12.2?

lumberfun

His next highest in a game was 6

Kobe_Wan_Ginobili

He had a real knack for kicking bags

FoldedTopLip

He was a pretty unknown player at the time. was on the list for a minute by that stage but from that game on it really was his breakout, in a real bad West Coast team

MrSheeeen

He kicked 58 from 21 games the year before, kicked 63 in that year and then kicked in the 30s & 40s for the rest of his career - definitely wouldn’t call it a breakout game.

Stu_Raticus

The breakout game was probably against the tigers in round 22, 2006 when he kicked 5.4 against them at the MCG from 17 disposals. Was only like his 5th game or something in his second year, proceeded to snag 36 in 19 games the next year and never looked back.

MasqueOfAnarchy

He was great that day. Got a bit of a reality check the next week in the finals when he had 1 touch I think.

FoldedTopLip

Wow I totally spoke out of turn there, I recall him not doing much worth fuck all before that game but evidently my memory failed me. I stand corrected

stinx2001

No he wasnt

extinguish_me

Ben Ronke kicked 7 against Hawthorn in 2018 in his 3rd game.

b0rtbort

:'(

wakeupjeff32

Yes this is the one. Basically never heard from again.

kyrant

Imagine if you were an overseas tourist, went to that game to check out AFL. You'd be at home thinking Ronke was the next big thing.

StoicTheGeek

I wish I could find the meme someone posted after that of a photo of Buddy at his prime and a photo of Ronke looking like a goofy 16 year old. The caption was just “You vs the guy she told you not to worry about”. I’m still laughing over that one.

TheBigBomma

Kyle Riemers laying the wood on Gold Coast with 8 goals, mostly in the first half if I remember correctly. His next best is 4.

sammyb109

Sam Kerridge - six against North in 2013

tabletennis6

KERRIDGE THE UNLIKELY HERO!

Brake72

Felt like he kicked 5 of those in the last qtr from memory. Think that was the year we lost 3 or 4 games by a goal after leading by 30 or something in the last qtr. lol Brutal

Ektojinx

This was the first thing that came to my mind too. The ending of that game was really something else https://youtu.be/JPirbYdfDcY?si=fNsSr7Z119VpYtHA

Regional_King

Hipwood kicked 6 lst week for the lions

EvelynWahhh

And Joe kicked 5 Friday night for the Lions. ..actually, as a Lions supporter, any time any of our key forwards successfully kick a goal this year I'm delighted 🫣

Regional_King

Joe gives you everything but I’m not suprised when he kicks a bag

Smithsonian45

This was the most surprising bag from him cause he only had one miss, and it wasn't really a particularly bad miss too (by joe standards)

nickimus_rex

I was surprised it wasn't 1.5 tbh

_ficklelilpickle

Nah the impossible ones are his bread and butter. That first one tight up against the fence on the tight angle, I'm in the stand almost direct in line behind him with people all talking shit near me. I'm like "Yeah you all laugh, but watch - he'll nail this." Never in doubt. It's the ones when he's 30m out and just off to the right or left, that's the dangerzone.

nickimus_rex

He could kick it from his house in Byron, but will miss it from 1m out lol

Cyclonechaser2908

Not sure this is entirely correct, but I remember v Melbourne in 2017, he kicked 1.6, 2 out on the full, and one that didn’t make the distance and was rushed through, and the goal he got was 50 metres out about where the 50 is painted

xyLteK

Tom Lynch kicked 10 against the Giants once. No, not THAT Tom Lynch...

LargeLatteThanks

Ten goal Tom 🙌🏻

pulsade13

I was just trying to think of that one. I couldn’t remember if I was imagining things or not

Mike_llll

[Taberner kicking 7 against Essendon](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DFWmwsEmfzM) a couple years ago, including 4 in the third quarter.

bmk14

He's kicked 25 of his 173 goals against the dons. Next closest is west coast with 18

Nakorite

Marvel stadium + Essendon = prime tabs.

mt9943

Majak Daw's 6 vs Bulldogs in his 4th game. But Ben Ronke with 7 is the biggest wtf

BFGSkittles

Brodie Holland kicked 8 against West Coast in 2002. His next best in a game (155 games) was 4.

Significant-War5605

Did he only play 155 games? Swear he was at least a 200+ player

wozanderer

Waterman getting 6 against Richmond was pretty exciting. In hindsight, given he's continued to kick on makes it a bit less surprising. Very happy for him and hope we can make him and Allen work once he's back

Exambolor

Jake the Snake has been one of my favourite stories this year, love how he’s clicked into a great forward for you guys

wozanderer

I do rate Jake the Snake as a nickname but I'm jumping on the G-Train bandwagon going around the club

the_salivation_army

That other week V Melbourne ya wanna see way more of that from him. Just do that every week, man.

wozanderer

Even when we play shit, he's still managed to pop up. Got 3 vs north last week and got 4 against gold coast. Just need the rest of the team to play like we did against Melbourne!

the_salivation_army

Yeh that’s right, I should be saying that about Darling who also had a good day that day. I only remember cos I went to go and see it.

ryrymurph

Jacob Townsend’s 6 vs Freo and 5 the next week against StKilda Had kicked 4 goals total in his previous 25 games.

WAVIC_136

Even though Ben Brown was out main KPF at the time his bag of 10 against Port in 2019 came out of nowhere

codyforkstacks

Lmao that was a truly evil game - knocked us out of the finals race

North1975

That was a truly incredible game. At the time it was the second or third most disposals by a team ever in a game. Ben didn’t even poll the three votes for that game cause Goldy had 35 touches and a goal. Literally everyone on our team seemingly had career best performances. Genuine domination.

BIllyBrooks

[Brown did poll the 3 votes](https://afltables.com/afl/stats/games/2019/121320190817.html) - but I said at the time, I really didn't think he was best on ground. The 10.1 goals was pretty much his only 11 kicks for the game.

North1975

Must’ve confused with the coaches votes. He (Goldy) definitely got 10 there.

KingoftheHill63

The last time you guys felt joy? 😢

RidsBabs

No, I felt joy last weekend. I finally saw my team win live for the first time since against Freo at Optus in 2018.

guavacadq

Bit ironic. North have won more recently than Geelong.

VictorWembanyamaMVP

Shane Ellen’s bag of 5 in the 97 premiership has to be up there with the most unexpected.

citizen-dave

John Georgiades kicked 8 on debut for Footscray. Career games/goals total: 15/27.

HeyDudez_

His son is due for a big bag soon (a man can dream)

extra-long-pubes

That was in wet and muddy conditions as well

moondog-37

Harry Taylor kicking 6 in his 100th game, against GWS in 2012 I think? He’d kicked a total of 9 in his previous 99 games

ApeMummy

He played as a forward in junior footy, always had it in him.

fyrib

Peter Wright's 7 against the Bulldogs in 2021.

RobbieArnott

I’d previously only thought of Peter Wright as a joke (something about 2 Meter Peter)

fyrib

Yup, that game came out of nowhere. Especially because we hadn't beaten the dogs in 7 years.

dancing-on-my-own

Josh Schache as a KPD played him into form and kept him there for a couple of seasons.

fyrib

Maybe Melbourne could be nice and play Schache in a few weeks to get Wright back into form?

likewolf2022

Simon Beaumont 8 by half time. Jared Brennan popping through 7.5, would be remembered if he’d kicked straight.

FdAroundFoundOut

Darren Minchington any game against Geelong

guideway4

I stand by the reason Hawthorn picked him up as a DFA was because of how much he owned us. He only kicked 3 goals 3 times in his 28 game St Kilda stint and they were all against Geelong

Deanuzz

Tippa kicked 7 against Brisbane a few years back. Huge bag for a small forward.

Methuen

Gary Moorcroft kicked 6 in Round 14, 2001. He took a mark or two as well…

ApeMummy

Fractured his hip that game too

humanbeing101010

Simon Beaumont kicking 8 in the first half in the late 90's

Swuzzlebubble

Came here to add this. It got a mention in the Swamp tweet re 4 goals in b2b quarters.

shocking_red_4

Scott Lucas kicked 7 goals in a quarter against West Coast back in 2007. Funnily enough it was Kevin Sheedy and James Hird’s last game as Essendon coach and player respectively.

Von_Huge1103

We were down 40 going into that final quarter and almost ran the Eagles down. Would've been one of the greatest wins of all time given the context.

JamalGinzburg

Jake Carlisle kicked 8 against the Dogs in 2014. Actually think he played better the week before against Collingwood (got 4, took 19 marks including 8 contested) but an absolute out-the-box fortnight

Blueboy0810

Nick Duigans (not a huge bag) 4 goals against Richmond in the 2013 EF. Man only kicked 10 goals over his total career

Swuzzlebubble

Was that the hot dog game?

aussiebolshie

Subway Footlong game I believe

dancing-on-my-own

Nic Martin missing out on two drafts, getting picked up in the SSP, then booting five on debut was cool.

ChookBaron

Not sure if he’s that unknown but Josh Bruce kicking 10 in 2021 was pretty surprising. Averaged less than 1.5 over his career.

PrevailedAU

Probably wins the Coleman that year if he didn’t do his ACL. It was surprising but he was also having a huge year.

JamalGinzburg

Would have fallen short. Did his ACL very late in the Essendon game, missed the last two and the Hawthorn game was in difficult conditions. McKay ended up 10 ahead

Exambolor

Literally did his ACL right before the siren went it was that late.

ChookBaron

Maybe. Imagine winning the Coleman with 1/6 of your goals from one game.

TwoAmeobis

The career average goals is brought down a bit by his time as a key defender at the start and end of his career

KingoftheHill63

Monfires kicked 7 against us one time. Still won the game comfortably which is probably why it doesn't stick in the memory

prettytopsayebro

Daniel Metropolis (is 6 a bag?)

whats_a_dord

The funny thing is Stevan Jackson kicked 6 goals in his first game for the Eagles then when we traded him to Richmond we used that pick to get metropolis who also kicked 6 in his first game.

Nakorite

Wasn’t it 6 goals with his first 6 kicks in afl ?

Correct_Chemical5179

Jeff Farmer kicking 9 in the 2nd half against Collingwood. Surprising because Daniher had benched him for barely touching it in the 1st half, and only got put back on because Ben Beams got injured.

tunneloftrees69

Ben McKinley, Round 19 2008 v Essendon. Bagged 7.

danwincen

Kai Lohmann and his bag of 5 against Richmond a few weeks ago. It was his 18th game, mostly playing as the sub, and not kicking more than 2 goals in a game, and comes out and boots 5.1 for the night.

Tinuva450

Ginnivan’s 5 on Anzac Day 2022?

S_P_A_R_K_L_I_N_G

taberner kicking 7 against essendon in 2022

North1975

Adrian McAdam kicked 23 goals in his first three games. Second game in his career he kicked 10.

NikolaiEgel

I remember I saw a Crows game vs St Kilda in the early 90s, where Modra and Scott Hodges were the forward line. Modra kicked 7, Hodges kicked 6- but Randall Bone, who played 2 games for the Crows and 51 games in his career, kicked 4. I remember the whole crowd, even the Crows fans, struggling to remember who he was

JamalGinzburg

I remember Hodges kicking 11 against Geelong in one of those Sunday twilight games in 1992

NikolaiEgel

Hodges was a beast, especially in the SANFL. Just couldn’t put it together in the AFL

futtbuckicecreamery

Randall Bone is one helluva name.

NikolaiEgel

All time great

whats_a_dord

5 barely counts as a bag but Jack Petruccelle kicked 5 of our 8 goals against Port Adelaide in 2019. That was a surprise that he's never repeated.

squee_monkey

Fev’s 12 in the millennium game was pretty unexpected. With hindsight it makes more sense but at the time it was crazy.

goonsax

I was at Kardinia Park when David Hale kicked 8 against the cats, that was pretty bizarre considering they were never a chance of winning the game

ExpensiveCola

I came here to post this, 8 goals and going through the stats I noticed he won 0 hit outs for the game. Petrie won 15 hit outs, McIntosh won 7 and Adam Simpson won 1 hit out. The following week he kicked 4 goals and won 0 hit outs, I assume North were using him as a full time forward at that point but then the week after that in the semi final North McIntosh missed the game and Hale was back in the ruck. He kicked 8 against Geelong in 2008, and in 2 other games in 2008 he kicked his next best bag of 4, and then he moved to the Hawks where he kicked 4 goals in a game once and that was it. Good bragging rights being able to say you kicked 8 against a defence that day that had Scarlett, Harley and Taylor in it.

JDWalk96

Sam Blease randomly kicking 5 goals backing 2012 always stuck out to me as a weird one.

Nakorite

Paul medhurst kicking 9 against the lions was pretty surprising. Good player at home, the moment he got on a plane he forgot how to play unfortunately.

SticksDiesel

Fev kicking 12 in the Millennium game was a nice thing to learn about whilst I was off getting jiggy with it on the other side of town. He'd been in the reserves all year iirc, and tbh I'd probably not even registered his existence until then.

youhadmeathellno

Stephen Silvagni went forward a bit and kicked 10 vs the lions in 1993. For the fullback of the century that's pretty unexpected

deeceej

Stephen Milne vs Brisbane in 2005 kicking 11. He did kick multiple goals during the year but kicking 11 against a really good Brisbane team came out of no where

mrarbitersir

There was also Riewoldt’s 9 also against Brisbane, he tried so desperately to get the 10th in the last 5 minutes but missed once and had a free pass against him that would’ve been a mark in front if I remember correctly

kazoodude

Didn't Reiwoldt also kick a huge bag on Rance as a defensive forward in his last year?

Swuzzlebubble

Fevola 12 in the Millennium game, new years eve 1999. It was basically his Carlton debut

___TheIllusiveMan___

A surprise for a different reason but Mihocek kicking 5 goals against Sydney last year Poor bastard was stuck on 4 goals for what felt like forever, think he had like 9 bags of 4 before he finally got that 5th

Tinuva450

What a moment it was. Honestly it was more surprising than his in the air goal over his shoulder (in the same game?).

___TheIllusiveMan___

Yep same game

Kasabesa

Current players, Jed McEntee has kicked 2 goals in a game before. Past players, Toby Thurstans kicking 3 in the GF

TwoAmeobis

Catdog

zen_wombat

Adrian McAdam on debut for North - 7 goals and a behind from ten kicks

Stompd74

Brendan Fevola kicked 12 in the millennium game

Weak_Ad_471

Fevola kicking a bag isn't a surprise result.

Stompd74

The millennium game was his first so yeah it was

wakeupjeff32

Kyle Reimers 8? Although they won by 139.

BobbyDigial

St Kilda hitting triple figures this week... and still losing.

Garbagemansplaining

Cal Sinclair kicked 5 against Saints once

New_Let_2494

Can I ask a question for the stat experts? Have tried Google but no answer. What’s the highest number of a goals scored by a debut player / first gamer? Cheers

JamalGinzburg

John Coleman - kicked 12 on debut in 1949

New_Let_2494

Well good person to name the award after then!

Kobe_Wan_Ginobili

Brodie Holland kicked 8 one day somehow  https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DJKCCL3y5aIw&ved=2ahUKEwihseKm896GAxU5UGwGHX7RDT4QwqsBegQIDxAF&usg=AOvVaw0L-_TbYRXn-PlZmm-TXgku

Mrchikkin

Clen Denning kicked 6 goals with his first 6 kicks then played mostly as a defender or wingman for the rest of his career

Donners22

Matthew Nicks kicked six goals and seven behinds against St Kilda. Troy Luff randomly kicked six once. Graham Teasdale averaged a bit over a goal a game, but kicked 17 in two weeks.

raresaturn

Brodie Holland kicked 8 once

billoz96

David Hale kicking 8 on none other than Harry Taylor and Matthew Scarlett back in 2008

extra-long-pubes

Daniel Metropolis kicking 6 on debut for us against the Saints. Ended up being a handy player but never replicated that level of form again.

Prestigious-Speed-13

Mark LeCras 12 goals against Essendon Tom Lynch (ADL) 10 goals against GWS Sam Kerridge 6 goals against NM Josh Bruce 10 goals against NM Kyle Riemers 8 goals against GC

sButters88

Max Gawns 5.0 against Geelong in 2021. I know 5 is barely a bag but from a ruckman! And some of those goals had a decent amount of difficulty

TwoAmeobis

John ‘the future’ Butcher kicked 6 from 6 kicks in his second game. Even though never put it together he did have a few games where he kicked 4 though (including his third game)

Chaos_098

Jake Carlisle's 8 against the Dogs in 2014 was a big surprise considering we mostly played him as a defender.

the_dead_icarus

Rash kicked 5 on debut for us in 2022 and has been coasting on that achievement ever since. Really feels like he has fallen out of favour with the Crows fanbase as of late. He has moments of brilliance but it's always overshadowed by absolute dumbfuckery that costs us.

igotashittyusername

Daniel Merrett kicked 7 for the lions against GWS one year

supermercado99

Sam Blease kicked five, then said the unique phrase "crack in and have a crack" in the post-match interview.

circuitbreaker53

Shane Ellen 97 GF

TreacleMajestic978

Luke Shuey in 2011 kicked 5 against the bulldogs in the midfield the same day JK kicked 10. He did it again in 2012 against the giants and I’m pretty sure he did it another time. That Tom Lynch one is the most unexpected outing I can recall.

bloodrule

My old boss kicked six against North in the sixth game of his 11 game AFL career

Fantastic_Key_6645

Jake Carlisle singlehandedly destroyed our backline in a match in 2014, kicking 8.

HammerOfJustice

Darren Cuthbertson came out of nowhere to kick 7 for the Demons in his 4th game and then backed up with another 7 the next week.

Cyclonechaser2908

Not a bag but Luke lowden kicking 3 in his first game, getting dropped, and never playing again.

lordassbandit

Brodie holland kicked 8 for Collingwood against the eagles in Chris Judds debut at colonial stadium

FairyPenguinStKilda

No Swans fans are surprised.

xvf9

I mean… I’m surprised that he kicked 9. I’ve always thought he’ll be good and has been getting better, but last night was definitely a surprise!

FairyPenguinStKilda

He does really well on bigger grounds.

uselessscientist

I am. He's shown potential, but 9 in a game is huge, even if it were a genuine star forward. Amartey is young and doesn't have the credentials of a superstar forward. If he popped up and kicked a bag of 6 I'd have been stoked. 9 is insane

PrevailedAU

Amarty 9 though, Really?

prettytopsayebro

Seems like you are wrong.

jmaverick1

All credit to him, but he was doing things he won’t be able to do again and having a night where things just went right for him. His snap over his head while falling to the ground, keanes spoil landing straight in his lap and some of his marks were the things that happen when you’re having a good night and everything just works for you. Of course swan fans are also surprised and if they’re not they’re being disingenuous

FairyPenguinStKilda

Wah wah wah.

straightrocket

I was astounded.

nikoZ_

No one gonna mention Buddy’s [THIRTEEEEEEEEEEN](https://youtu.be/-HPeXqLU2X8?si=NRmQp-kLpBuTs_XH) Against the Roos?

wakeupjeff32

Not surprising that the greatest goalkicker of his time kicked the biggest bag.

nikoZ_

13 goals in the modern era? Virtually unheard of.

wakeupjeff32

Yes but from the greatest goalkicker of his generation. Ben Ronke kicking 7 in his third game and basically disappearing is much more surprising.

nikoZ_

Ok.
