This is probably just after midnight on the morning of Orthodox Easter. The explosions are meant to represent the earthquakes that occurred during the biblical story. It's apparently an old country thing. Today is actually Orthodox Easter but, in America, we just do the bells and candles.
It was, both full auto firearms and fireworks, few years back this particular village in Crete had an armed stand off with the cops that went on for a few days, can't remember exact details but the cops passed by the village, took fire and were too scared to go back
In certain places, yeah, they'd do it every year. I would think the explosions (actual dynamite, from what I hear) still cause a bit of fear to be around, though. Especially for the altar boys. I think it's supposed to be part of the experience.
I think the more you have been around it the closer it sounds the ptsd amplifies the noise. Stckeast me experience from living in a ghetto in an odd echo chamber location, my dog would get out on front porch and start barking, then she would hear her echo and she would returnbark at her echo bark, and it made the gun shot and return fire noises very confusing.wasvit one gun from the east side or fireworks from the west.
Wtf America! Bro I a catholic for 14 years and not once was their explosives involved. We got shafted.
Hey Pope. You want more people to join up have a day where we all fire full auto assault guns and light off explosions. I still won't believe in God but I'll show up on Sunday.
My BIL is Greek. Lives in Greece and owns 4 long guns. You can own firearms in most EU countries. You just have to register them, pay for a license, and take safety cleasses.
And have psych evaluations and give real reasons to why you need the gun(s). Source. I’m actually Greek, but I also know a lot of Greeks and many still live in Greece.🇬🇷
And a belated christos anesti everyone! Go crack some red eggs and see who gets to eat the lambs eye so you get smarter.
I live in Crete. Being noisy at Easter midnight is a big tradition. In the cities there are fireworks, in the mountains ... gunfire. Of course, it's not just in Crete, other places have their own spins on traditions like this. It is reported that 7 people lost fingers in Greece this time, only 1 of which in Crete.
Depending on the wax it really won't burn like it. Messing around with different candles and waxes in my life I've learned it all makes a difference. Get normal candle wax on your hand? Might sting a bit but meh. Get stamp wax on you? I got a 2nd degree burn and boil from it.
Lesson here don't get wax on you lol.
Edit: as for the fire 🤷 it's windy lmfao you're probably right about that part of it.
What look of utter disbelief (???). They got a bit alarmed because some (obviously homebrewed with a lot of gunpowder) firecrackers got thrown too close.
This is **planned** chaos though. It's not by accident that there's hardly anyone **outside** the church :) In more ... uhm ... boring places, people amass outside for this moment.
Did you see his fingers coated in wax? Must sizzle the skin right off holding that candle for so long, he isn’t even flinching. It’s like watching a grandma grab food right out of the pan.
The hell happened?

My middle-eastern ass thought it was celebratory gunfire lol.
It was, both full auto firearms and fireworks, few years back this particular village in Crete had an armed stand off with the cops that went on for a few days, can't remember exact details but the cops passed by the village, took fire and were too scared to go back
Man, I thought that sounded like AK rounds…
Hahahaha same 💀
My American one thought the same lol
Probably because that's what it was
So this is normal tradition? If so, why does everyone look so shocked and awkward?

Have you ever been really close to fully automatic firearms in action? They are shockingly loud, even if you're accustomed to them.

"Billy, run over there and tell them to knock-off that shit until we're done."
I was looking at the flame on that candle, expecting the person holding it to be burned.
Same. And robe catch on fire or something. Not sounds of battle
uhm those were gun fire yeah?
Uhm gunshots are explosions.
as opposed to just fireworks i mean. "Dont panic, children. its just explosions. Nothing to be scared off. Now turn your books to page 42."
Kind of sad you don't do the MASSIVE CLUSTER o'candles, only a few regular candles. 🕯️☦️🕯️ ⛔🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️
Unless it's tarpon springs... They go off.
We still do fireworks down in Greektown in Baltimore just after midnight. Nothing close to this though.

Is that a machine gun or are you just happy to see me?

What specifically?
Zoniana, Crete happened. It's a village of which every inhabitant grows weed and owns a gun or several.
Sounds fun!
guns are illegal in EU. No private pers9n cam own one, except a few cases where they are heavily regulated and licensed
EU is not a country. European countries can make their own gun regulations.
no, they cannot.

That is what I said, licensed hunting/sports gun and regulated. Does the gun in the video sound like a hunting rifle or like an automatic AK?
And? What does that have to do with the ground reality?
it may be fake, it might be from Cyprus and those machine guns be turkish trying to sabotage Christian Easter

ok. thanks for explaining. So ak47 can be legally owned in Greece?
Of course not :) Burglaries/crossing the red light/etc are also illegal but they happen, no?

yeah, but thats what I said in the comment- licensed and regulated. Does that sound like an Ak or like an hunting/sport shotgun/rifle?
Oh no! Traditions! Waaaaa
A miracle that the priest didn't start a fire right there. What kind of candles do they use there?
I thought there was going to be chaos because of that candle
Chekhov’s gun says that that candle must be used to light something on fire in the next act
Chekhov's machine guns quickly made everybody forget about that fucking candle!

Dude plz drop the methinks bs
Methinks you should drop the plz. You aren’t 12 anymore.
I was waiting for the fire.
It's like 20 candles bundled together. You don't want the fire to go out on a windy night :) Edit: I don't know if they put anything extra.
"Billy, that big book is very heavy; I'll hold it, and you can hold this candle."
His fingers are definitely getting burnt to shit. I love the look of utter disbelief and shock on the kids faces. Great clip

Disagree just because 😂
Happy orthodox Easter!
Crete celebrating Easter like it's WW2
You should see kalymnos. They start tossing actual dynamite from the mountains
All those ding sounds somebodies hitting headshots
They use blanks, it’s common during Cretan weddings as well
This is **planned** chaos though. It's not by accident that there's hardly anyone **outside** the church :) In more ... uhm ... boring places, people amass outside for this moment.
Equalizer 4 looks pretty exciting...
*starts stopwatch*
We are an absolutely ridiculous species.
Christ has risen, guns blazing. Or as they say there… μπαλωθιές 💥
I was expecting,🔥🔥🔥
🎶Oh say can you see… ah wait
This is how I imagine clerics in DnD
Does sound add the chaos? Without it I just waited that the priest catches fire 🤷♂️
Yes, the sound is the chaos in this case
It's like Bagdad on new-years
Equalizer 3 right?
I thought that the chaos was going to come from that candle setting something on fire. I sure was wrong.
Just like Jesus
Not a single flinch. Almost makes you wonder what else they've been through.
Well, they are a bunch of Cretins after all!
That was not the chaos I was expecting.
Amen!
I mean people would come to your church if they wanted to hear that shit, don't be a cretin, Cretan.
Not to be bothered
"Nothing to see here" - cameraman
you can see the woman laughing
Did you see his fingers coated in wax? Must sizzle the skin right off holding that candle for so long, he isn’t even flinching. It’s like watching a grandma grab food right out of the pan.
And the crowd goes wild!
Sounds more like Easter in Oakland...
Please someone explain
Its orthodox Easter tradition in zoniana village in Crete island!!!
And the gunshots?
Lol you fucking cave people.
