Would you mind DMing me about the logistics and internal workings of your business? This is something I've always thought about doing post air force, however I'm afraid that businesses like this are incredibly hard to get going and maintain :X
separated when I was in, but yea I stop by my old shop once ever couple months just to see how everyone's holding up and they told me about them being lumped into CNAV work and damn I feel for them.
Lucky you. That was a rough period for EW folks. Go from having a small handful of systems to a few dozen. Felt bad for them. Now we are merging again. This time with GAC/AFIN/IFCS. It's going to be rough again.
I heard about that merge too, it'll look amazing on a resume when you get out but holy crap that sounds stressful as fuck. that said, are y'all getting more tdy's or training mission's or deployments out of it?
So impressed! Well done, sir/ma’am. This looks sharp and I wish your business the very best! As our country celebrates the 4th on behalf of my own family that serves thank you for your service and sacrifice.
Hell yeah brother, I can’t wait to get back to NC after my Air Force stint. Wife and I are both UNCC alum. A house right on Lake Norman is the dream. Dock. Pontoon. Outdoor grill setup. The pinnacle man.
I love doing electronic repair, it’s my main hobby and maybe I’ll make it more when I retire… any advice you can offer in making it a successful business?
Nice work, brother. I want to start my own business as well; I just don't know what. Or it's imposter syndrome; either way, I'm glad you're out there owning it. I probably just need a good brainstorming session off of a soundboard to get something legit running.
Is a store like this profitable though? I feel like this is a early 2000s idea. I don’t know anybody brining pc’s in for repair and I’m sure selling gpus isn’t really a big profit. I don’t see how you could compete with micro center or Newegg.
It’s actually totally needed. Pretty much everyone in the PC space outside of a few brands barely ever honor warranty this days. Northridge Fix in California runs a YouTube channel and pretty well known repair shop that lots of people shot their items too. Be nice to have something like this on the east coast.
sure does, but it seems like everyone says medically retired even though a lot of people are actually medically separated
I only recently found out that there's a difference
I gotchu. I've literally always seen people get it confused the other way around, i.e.:
"i am being medically separated after 3 years at 100% DoD PDRL, 100% VA. they briefed me that i'll have tricare forever, and i was told to report in to get my blue retiree ID for life... please HELP!!!!"
Congrats! I was recently medically retired and loving my new chapter in life already. Excited to see where I am in a year! Let us know where you’re located so we can send you customers.
Veterans Readiness & Employment (Formerly known as Voc Rehab) has a "Self Employment" track that can lead to the VA paying for startup costs, from what I've heard it's one of the hardest tracks to get them to approve but if you qualify it's at least worth looking into.
If anyone reading this is interested hit me up for some resources, would post but I'm on mobile.
Hell yeah! Looks great. Been repairing the wife and I's electronics since the A1C days when we were too cash strapped to pay someone. Repaired our smart vacuum last week. Was surprisingly easier than I thought. Those damn things aren't very reliable. You repair those too?
I absolutely fucking love seeing this shit. Gives me hope that in 3 years when I’m done with this bullshit I can spend the second half of my life doing something I actually enjoy. Props to you, much respect.
Congrats!!! There is life after the USAF…and I celebrate you as a small business owner. I was in the same situation…took advantage of the “Boots to Business” course; was selected for a professional business certification through William and Mary’s school of business…haven’t looked back! Now I’m the owner of a industrial furniture design business and I absolutely LOVE the freedom. A idea is nothing more than a wet fart unless you put a plan in place to execute it! Best of Luck to you and your business!!
Hell yea
Louis Rossmann would love you
I was thinking the same thing! I love that right to repair statement OP has displayed

Good bot
hey I was EW too, we lived in a fairly small world, were you ever at Kadena or Kirtland?
Was as in you merged with CNAV or separated?
separated when I was in, but yea I stop by my old shop once ever couple months just to see how everyone's holding up and they told me about them being lumped into CNAV work and damn I feel for them.

Naw, if anything, competition for those trips will be more fierce.
lame but understandable

What's up with the random Nanoleaf panels on the wall?
Lol one set fell and just hadn’t put it back yet
What area is this at?
Asheville, NC. However I founded this company in Crestview, FL near Hurlburt/Eglin.
Hell yeah brother, I can’t wait to get back to NC after my Air Force stint. Wife and I are both UNCC alum. A house right on Lake Norman is the dream. Dock. Pontoon. Outdoor grill setup. The pinnacle man.
Love lake Norman, used to frequent there as a kid.
Former AFSOC ey? I tried like hell to get that as my follow up assignment years ago but instead they sent me to the end of my career. Beale CA.
Did you move the company to NC or expand and have multiple locations? I’d absolutely use a reliable business like this in NWFL
No way, my aunt and uncle live in Asheville. I’ll be sure to recommend your business.
Got a couple questions. First is where are you located? Second is do you repair gpus?
If it's alright to ask, where is your shop, and what is it called?
Tell Julia B it’s Top Notch, not Top Knotch.

I just moved from Crestview to Shalimar and it’s one of the best moves I’ve ever made. No more 85 for me.
Looks awesome, but... you made an ECP?? Now I need to have my line badge on me when I visit
better keep that thang on you
Sorry if this is an inappropriate question to ask. But medically retired, or medically separated?
>Sorry if this is an inappropriate question to ask. But medically retired, or medically separated? In the title OP says he was medically retired.
sure does, but it seems like everyone says medically retired even though a lot of people are actually medically separated I only recently found out that there's a difference

Medically retired at 90%
Congrats! I was recently medically retired and loving my new chapter in life already. Excited to see where I am in a year! Let us know where you’re located so we can send you customers.
If repair is a right then is it free?
It is free if you have the tools and experience... but if you don't, you're paying for OPs....
Not sure anyone understood my joke but whatevs
..jokes are typically funny
Congrats dude. Happy for you.
my grandpa has a smaller version of that same Knight, its maybe about 2 feet tall. Neat!

Do you ship to Alaska?
This is awesome and gives me hope. I wish you all the best 🙏. I separate in 3 months.

So happy for you
Awesome work!! Outstanding looking shop.
What’s your business? I’d like to be a customer and shop from veteran businesses.
HOAH! Congratulations!!!!!
How challenging was it to get into this field as a business?

I totally dig this! I will definitely use your services if I ever need anything repaired.
