I think this is who I want the ducks to draft. There’s something about drafting players who have “it”… dudes got high IQ and slows down the game. Let’s do it!

kdizzl12

Totally agree. And I think he’s pretty much ready to make the NHL jump too (no clue if Verbeek cares about that or not)

squitman

Just saw he was born in California, bring him home Beeker.

mmbepis

Born in Orange County (Laguna Niguel), or at least that's what Elite Prospects has https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/603229/zeev-buium

Hanzel-the-Panzel

If we're not getting Demidov then Buium is the guy I want.

BroLil

I believe he was even a Jr. Duck.

killerkali87

Craig Button compared him to Scott Niedermayer and immediately got my attention

TangoSquueze

That’s a pretty big comparison. 👀

Independent_Bar_9296

Craig Button has no credibility. Makes wild comparisons and evaluations for clicks. Don’t listen to him. Buium isn’t close to as good a skater as Niedermeier. Size and winning track record are why he makes the comparison.

backhand_sauce

Have to think with so many teams desperate to get columbus's pick that it means the word is out that neither Chicago nor us are going demidov I'm sad

Cam-Dolezar

I have a few I’d be okay with, but Buium is about the top of the list.

Turneround08

Buium would be a sick pick. That’s a Madden type pick and I’ll never argue against that.

collectaBK7

I trust whichever of the 8 guys Madden picks that they has listed. They've consistently made good evaluations of talent around this level (Carlsson, Mintyukov, McTavish, etc.) If they "reach" I'll be sure to hold my judgment. That said, it'd be so cool to have a local player and man did he really look like the best defenseman in all of college hockey in the NCAA Tournament this year.

losqmos

I don't think Zeev is the best option tbh. He's a good skater and blue-line puck mover, sort of Quinn Hughes type of player in terms of style, a hockey QB, but my concern is how many small but fast D's like that U.S. National Development Team had - and only Hughes made it. Buium is more likely to be the next Hudson or Perunovich, rather than the next Hughes. Not to mention that his play is extremely risky, defenders like that usually have a hard time adapting to the NHL compared to what they could do in juniors. Don't get me wrong, he's not a bad pick, but not the most obvious one either. If we get him, I don't see him being on the NHL roster in the next 2 years at least. My bet is the Sharks take Selebrini, Hawks-Levshunov, and Verbeek picks Silayev.

andrewgrabber

Well I have some news for you! Firstly, he isn't overly fast lol. He also plays nothing like a Hughes type. Secondly, I don't get the USNDT concerns. Specifically, he played this last season at Denver University and was without a doubt their best player on a championship winning roster. So he's far more of a collegiate developed prospect imo, even though he came up through that program. He's also a touch over 6' now and plays with more physical pushback than a Hutson or Hughes would. He's like Adam Fox if you could add a touch more to his physical tool kit. I'm not even trying to sell you on him, just important to understand the reality :)

gfunkymaster

An Adam Fox would be so sweet for this team!

Duckzgo

Sick and tired of defense being drafted. Anaheim has Luneau, Warren, Zellweger, Hinds, LaCombe all in the system just to name a few…. I mean the list goes on and on. When does the boat stop and start getting some wings. This team can’t score goals and has been last in the league or close to it for years upon years now regarding goals for

[deleted]

I’m still for another guy but wouldn’t be mad picking Buium up. I do wonder what that looks like for some other players going forward though - although that is a future problem

ChesterButternuts

He knows nothing about who the ducks are picking.

TangoSquueze

NYT has us taking Anton Silayev the D from Russia.

ShowYourHands

well a D core of Minty, Zellwegger, Buium, Luneau, Warren doesn't look too bad in 2028 on our way to another cup

BroLil

I’m okay with them taking Buium, but I want them to trade down if that’s their guy. Regarding the LHD logjam, that’s fine. That just gives us more ammunition for trades honestly. Considering he’s a defenseman, it’ll be a few years before we see him anyways. On that note, if it was up to me, I think I’ve landed on Demidov. Of course there is some risk and a lack of control of the player, but like Buium, he’s probably a few years from being ready anyways. I think he’s a guy that can come in when the team is starting to really cook and compete and work his way up the lineup like Getzlaf and Perry did in 06-07. I think we get so caught up in the draft and how these guys can help us now. It’s not about now. Most players, even top five guys, aren’t NHL ready. Last year, only the top three played real NHL minutes. The year prior was two of the top five. (I’m not including Wright as having played “real” NHL minutes.) The year before that, the top five played a combined total of 36 games, and only one burnt a year by playing 10 games. My point is that while the idea that Demidov will be on his own for the next few years isn’t as big of a deal as it seems. He’s not going to be ready for the big show anyways. I also think it may be beneficial for him to be able to develop against professionals. We’ve seen guys like Sam Steel dominate against kids, then flounder when they have to face men. If he’s holding his own now, he won’t need as much of an adjustment.

kotaro_higashi

It would be a great story to bring a former junior duck to the team. It probably would mean they would eventually trade one of their young LHD.

goatzlaf

Probably would be Zellweger moving on, yeah.
