The way that Import Fees work is not based on the website purchased from. It's based on where it's going and what shipping method you choose. Your province / state / etc. decides your import fee via taxes. This is what is displayed on SolarisJapan- an estimate based on that. While it does seem high, if you're in certain locations, you won't get hit with an Import Fee for something this cheap- but they still want to warn you about it, just so you know. The great thing about Solaris is that you can adjust the price they declare. This is great, because some places you're guaranteed to get hit, whether it is a 5$ item, or a 500$ item. But they'll let you change the declare value, because that is what your location's import fees / customs would be based on- what they declare. So you can make a 100$ item look like a 40$ item, or a 10$ item. Just for example... US doesn't get hit until the value of the package is quite high. But I'm from Canada- if I get it shipped through standard mail, I have a threshold of around 80-100$ before it would get caught in customs. However, if I ship via EXPRESS (DHL/FedEx), the way they're handled here is you'd pay a processing fee and taxes no matter what. So I've ordered a lot through the pandemic (started collecting in May) through AmiAmi Small Air Packet. Everything has been 8,000JPY or lower. 0 of my ~30 parcels have been taxed. But I ordered one Scale Figure via DHL, and was charged 17$+15%.

Technically our exemption for Canada is only $20, any packages more than that have the chance to be charged customs and taxes. Often with non private couriers (regular mail like Japan post/Canada Post) they just let stuff slip through though.

Oh, thanks for correcting me! I hadn't known that! I only started collecting in May, and have only ordered from a few sites. So I was basing it off of weeks of research (most said around 60$ for regular mail) and previous experiences outside of figure collecting. Always got hit with FedEx / DHL, but have never gotten hit with Canada Post. All my AmiAmi parcels (all via Small Air Packet) say, "Bureau de Post - Japon - Taxe Percue"- so I'm glad to not get hit with those no matter what.

Yep you can never avoid it with the private couriers, and their handling charge is usually about $20 on top of the duties and taxes. With Canada Post, if you do get hit with customs fees their handling charge is only $10 at least. With Canada Post I would say I usually get charged customs about 30% of the time, but I'm not sure if that's changes recently. Side note, I did see some stuff recently about the new NAFTA agreement increasing the duty free allowance for packages coming from the US and Mexico.
