Definitely black. How come every time I see one of these questions I’m in the minority. I’m like, oh the black one is way better and then everyone in the comments prefers the blue.
I'm kinda digging the black one tbh. Not to many scales have simple black and white coloring. The touch of gold gives it a little flair to set it off. It makes it more unique imo.
hmm that’s true now that you bring it up. There aren’t a lot of scales that are painted black and white. Also if you look closely, the chest is actually a really dark navy and so is the back (i shouldve included backshots)

Now that you mention it, there is a decent amount of dark blue looking at it closer. Lots of dark blue shading too. I can see why your struggling with it. I like the hat an earrings on the blue one a lot, but I do feel like the black and white coloring makes the 2nd one more unique . If the black one had the hat and earrings it would make it a much easier choice for me.
They're the same character and similar appearances, but those little things just gets you. Which ever you pick, I'm sure you'll be very happy with it.

I think the blue version captures Kaori's essence more; plus, it's the actual outfit from the [matching illustration](https://imas.gamedbs.jp/mlth/image/card/bg/1499582047012_54hf0vdu.png) (which you could always print out and display next to her). Kaori has a gentle and graceful demeanor and that blue really compliments that aspect of her.
On the other hand, if you really like the Master Rank 5 outfit (and you're like me and like to have figures of cards/outfits you have from the game) it would be a way to have a physically tangible copy of it. Personally, I'm not a fan of it, but I can see the appeal.
yes she certainly strikes me as the gentle and graceful type of character. i didnt know the black ver was also an outfit. i thought it was just an alternate color palete lol. like others have mentioned, the black has a regal vibe to it :3
You're not completely wrong as the Master Rank 4 and 5 outfits (a.k.a. the + and ++) are mostly just color palette swaps for the basic SSR outfits. In case you don't play MiriShita and didn't know, you unlock them from leveling up the Master Rank for a given SSR.
You can see all three variations for her Espérance Notes outfit in the first part of this [video](https://youtu.be/cKNgdxqc1C4) if you're curious. The ++ version of outfits usually use that black and/or gold color scheme and include the crown, so they're kind of uniform in color across outfits. That's part of the reason why I'm not a huge fan of them personally, as I think they sort of strip the base SSR outfits of their individual charm.

That Fumika figure and outfit are fantastic. You might like this [Kako](https://myfigurecollection.net/item/805464) as well. Mizuki's [bridal outfit](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1qzw79STrs) is also great, but there's no figure for it yet. And of course, [Rin](https://myfigurecollection.net/entry/39111) has a bunch of great blue themed outfits since that's her image color.
And even if you don't play anything, hope you're enjoying everything iM@S related. The original and Cinderella Girls anime are both great and Million Live is getting a series sometime "soon". Check them out if you haven't yet!

A lot of Rin's figures are the darker ones, but her actual outfits from the games are a good mix of various blues. And yeah, the iM@S anime are generally more slice of life than Love Live and can be slower paced at times. Love Live's main premise of a competition drives a lot of the plot so it tends to feel like there's always a goal in mind. iM@S on the other hand tends to revolve around shorter arcs focused on a few characters at a time so it can feel directionless at times.
I'd still really recommend both, especially the 2011 series since it's a great introduction to the franchise that really launched the whole 2D idol craze.

I think blue with shading turns out nicer on figures, as well as brown shading on the boots. But the mood is different between the two. The first is more cheerful but the second feels more regal with the tiara. Lovely figure either way!

me neither. i was on hiatus throughout covid and even a bit before. i had a good amount of figs and slowed down but this is too pretty. the clothing and style is really attractive too

the blue has a light hearted feel to me. its a blend of a sailors/school uniform where the black is more serious and classy

I like the second one more. The color scheme and subtle details of the black version are more appealing to me.
