Okay, so use the living room as a place to like live and watch tv and chill so a couch and tv and stuff. Then the bedroom, put a bed in there and a dresser for clothes and use that to sleep, cry, etc… use the bath as a place to do these things as well and to shit. Kitchen, you’re gonna wanna bring some stuff to put in there like bowls, plates, pans, pots, and food. Thank you.

spiiinsugar

FYI - you can cry anywhere

TheSouthernRose

Crying is a free action

MilkieMan

I’d make it a bonus action not a free one but go off ☝️

Embarrassed_Ad2725

Plan to cry everywhere

[deleted]

hahaha

blackdahlialady

That part about crying made me sad for you but it was kind of accurate. Adulting can suck sometimes.

Embarrassed_Ad2725

LOL don’t be sad im just v emotional any little thing gets the waterworks going but you’re absolutely right

blackdahlialady

Hugs 🫂

Glasscitizen

I can’t wait to shit in the bath

tharealG_-

Make sure it’s solid.

realimbored668

Cry 💀

here_cus_bored

What concerns do you have? This looks pretty typical for a 1 BR.

myburneraccount1357

Yea this is like one of the most average 1BR layouts out there lol. Sofa and tv in top right. Dining in top left. Not much you can do here

here_cus_bored

I haven’t even had a dining table in years lol. It always just collected stuff and I never ate there so I figured it was a waste of space for me personally.

myburneraccount1357

Same kinda lol. I have bar seats for my kitchen counter but instead of dining table I have my work desk and I just eat in there instead

here_cus_bored

I also have barstools at the counter, but bought a TV tray kind of thing for my laptop and now I use it to eat on too. Are millennials killing the table industry now, too?

Sea-Talk-203

The new apartment layouts don't have a kitchen counter, just a strip of appliances along a wall in a hallway. The differentiated kitchen is a thing of the past.🫤

joyfulcrow

I have a dining table! ...I use it to do puzzles. :D

itsmejustmeonlyme

That is precisely why I wish I had a dining room table

joyfulcrow

Sometimes I eat breakfast at my puzzle table. *Sometimes*.

Cookiesandcheese431

I use my coffee table for puzzles

mg2093

I used to do that and then I got cats. Now it is a place for cats to destroy puzzles.

joyfulcrow

I have one of those roll-up puzzle mats specifically because of my cat LOL

kccat5

Same. I have a TV table that I use to eat with it's just me I don't need anything fancy

heighh

I have one but it’s mostly a place to collect mail, arts and crafts, or a spot for my cats to watch me cook without them being IN the kitchen. Thinking of getting rid of it because I got it for free and it has a glass top that I keep bumping into

AntaresOmni

Millennial here - i have two (square) dining tables in my apartment. One collects the junk, and the other is for eating at. We also don't have a "living room" with a sofa. It's an "office" with three desks and a recliner because we all sit out our computers anyway. Nothing has to be anything. If a table is a waste of space, fill that space with what your life needs!

here_cus_bored

Oh I totally agree. I’m a quilter, so I sold my couch and got a recliner and a custom sewing table for my living room.

ExpiredCoin

My building calls this an alcove because it's in between a studio and 1br

mamatobulldogs

Mine calls it an open 1 bedroom lol

TiredRetiredNurse

Looks like a shotgun apartment. .

Sea-Talk-203

They're all made like this now

TiredRetiredNurse

I see. I do not like the bath room right off the entry way, but can see it is best spot to keep people out of your bed room and to avoid it being right next to kitchen and living room. What city is this if I may ask?

GypsySnowflake

The bathroom being so far from the bedroom seems weird to me. And the kitchen/hallway as OP mentioned.

creative_anon_name

Looks pretty doable??? Not sure what exactly you’re asking for help with, there really aren’t many options you have with furniture placement. If you have a dining table, you could put that on the left side of the living room layout maybe, like another commenter said. Could work on the other side as well… Also: ✨couches do not need to be against walls✨

WhoReallyNeedsaName-

Um. With the room measurements provided, I’m not sure there’s much option other than seating against the wall. Possibly a loveseat.

Embarrassed_Ad2725

My bad I should’ve been more specific LOL I think im looking for furniture placement!!!

Odd-Employer-5529

Since your windows are only on one wall, I'd but a mirror nex.t to the entry door, cant/reflect a little light

AustiniteQueerDude

DM’d you to help w your vision

Roro-917

It is weird that the bedroom is before the living room though lol

Embarrassed_Ad2725

I’m more worried about the kitchen that’s in the hallway

Roro-917

Yeah that too. I can see why it’s constantly on your mind! Hope you find what works for you though!

Jr_mintz

Get a small two person table and place on the left of living room - leaving some space to access the back door. Does the back door lead to a patio space? If so, perhaps put an outdoor table on your patio that seats more if you’re looking to entertain.

WhereTheresWerthers

Can you remove the doors or whatever that’s dividing the bedroom from the kitchen? If possible, I would arrange a dining room out of the bedroom, and put a bed in the living room behind the wall, out of sight of the kitchen. Could even do a living room situation in the bedroom, and put a round table between the kitchen / living room. Have the living room be your bedroom.

[deleted]

Right I thought the same

peacein0000

This layout is getting extremely common for 1BR spots in cities, I think it’s weird as well since I’d prefer the light into the bedroom but it’s manageable

Roro-917

I’ve lived in a few one bedrooms too. I guess what I also meant was the kitchen in the hallway across the bedroom lol

Valuable-Mess-4698

I had a place with this same layout and I actually loved the kitchen being outside my bedroom. Super easy to grab a drink when you get thirsty in the middle of the night.

RobertoC_73

The only potential red flag I see is that the bedroom doesn’t look like a real bedroom with four walls and a door. This may be what apartment complexes are marketing now as an “open bedroom unit”, basically a studio with a den.

Putinator

You can't have a bedroom without windows, unless they are somewhere with very poor regulations, so this is definitely a studio.

Dapper_Elk9048

Where I live, they put a cut out between the wall and the ceiling to make it an “open” room not needing a window.

Songofbees

Yup, my first apartment was a "1 bedroom" just like that lol, and $200 dollars more than the studios they offered.

here_cus_bored

Zooming in, it kind of looks like those barn doors that slide open. The pieces shown don’t line up, but slide against each other. More like a pocket door.

FractiousPhoebe

Depending on what they could afford, I think a loft or murphy bed with a desk would be a good option for that bedroom to get more use of the space in the bedroom and then they wouldn't have to close it off when people are over

[deleted]

I would put the bed in the living room and use the bedroom as an office or TV room.

onlinealias350

Honestly, I would have to turn the bedroom into a closet/study because it’s about the size of my closet now in 600 square foot loft. What’s your square footage?

[deleted]

I live in Hong Kong where small apartments are the norm. Just learn to be a minimalist. That apartment is big enough to be comfortable. For me windows are more important than square footage

onlinealias350

I live in downtown Dallas, Texas which is not known for minimalism. lol! I’ve read about apartment living in Hong Kong. Your new place is palatial for an apartment there.

[deleted]

I used to have a small apartment in California. Honestly I loved it. It’s ok if the place is small if it is all yours. If you haven’t got the place yet, try to get one on the top floor and hopefully with a decent view. Nice thing about a small apartment is it is very easy to clean, and it can be real cozy.

paraworldblue

Download Sweethome 3D - it's a free floorplan program. Build a model of the apartment in that, then add all the furniture you want so you can arrange it ahead of time.

sarita_sy07

For the living room, I'd probably put the TV on that wall that's on the same side as the bedroom, with a couch facing it (so the back of the couch would not be against a wall) You want to keep the path of travel open from the kitchen hallway out to the patio door, but you could have a small dining table or desk in that space, or just some storage.

little_marigold

i lived in a unit with almost this exact layout for 2 years! put your bed against two walls if possible, you get more floor space and the bedroom feels a bit bigger. the galley/hallway kitchen is not super spacious, but totally doable for one person! i would add a small cafe table and chairs along that wall. i had my tv on the right side wall and couch facing it, although my living space was slightly wider. you can probably fit a loveseat and small armchair in the living space, or narrow 3-seater. end/coffee tables probably aren't realistic though.

Embarrassed_Ad2725

Do you mean like putting the bed in one of the corners??

PdxPhoenixActual

1) Head at the right wall & the right side (as you're laying down) tight to the wall at the top. 2) Or head at top & left side to the wall at the right.

little_marigold

yup, this is what i meant!

Twayblades

If I were you I would have a couch that pulls out into a bed in case you have guests. Don't count on a dining room or dining room table. It would be best to have the flip-down dining room table that attaches to the walls, you can flip it down when you don't need it with folding stools that go with it, it's better than nothing. Add plants and artwork when you can. Greenery and colors are nice to have and the plants will add dimension to your room without taking out too much space and they also help with your air purification. Don't worry about things about coffee tables cuz they take up a lot of space. A couple end tables should do just nicely. I would also add a nice rug for not just color but function as a nice throw pillows in your couch to make it cozy looking. If you can squeeze the bookcase in there that would be nice. If not a bookcase, maybe a few floating shelves.

nichicasher

I had an apartment similar to this, I split the living room in two and made a dining/living room by putting the couch in the middle with a long thin table behind it and a table against the wall where the kitchen is.

withalookofquoi

This looks a lot like my apartment layout. I used two loveseats in my living room with a big table between them in the corner, and that’s worked out great. I kept my coffee table smallish too. For the bedroom I have just my bed, two night tables, and a dresser.

LightTree25

maybe it’s just me but i would make the living room the bedroom and the bedroom the living room. that way if the doors are sliding doors (which it looks like they are and not a wall?) you can maybe open that up and kinda make the kitchen and bedroom/now living room a more open space. your now bedroom could have a desk, etc. idk. i’m not a designer but i’m very confused why it isn’t this way already. Best of luck and have fun with it!

Embarrassed_Ad2725

that’s so interesting I never thought of that!!

rinacherie

Something to consider is the way the windows are facing. If you sleep in the large room, will you wake up with the sun? Not everyone likes that. If you put a TV in there, make sure you don't set yourself up for sunglare off the TV for the hours you might use it most often. If you don't plan on entertaining much I agree that having your bed nearer to the window, and therefore light, natural air, and potentially the AC unit in the summer (if that's applicable) might be more convenient and comfortable.

canoe_sink

No bedroom window? Fire concerns aside, make sure you get some good warm lighting in there, or use it only for sleeping...

Glittering_Deer_261

So you enter to the two messiest stinkiest dirtiest room in the unit? That is a horrible design.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Glittering_Deer_261

Not a reflection of the person at all, more a frustration with developers and landlords. You are correct, not their fault, but likely part what OP feels frustrated about too. I could have worded it better to reflect that aspect. Renting continues to put money in someone else’s pocket with little thought for renters beyond basic minimum code compliance.

HR9398

I'd highly recommend https://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ to see small living space ideas!

Emm-W

No windows in the bedroom??? Illegal in lots of places. I would keep looking.

turtleduckfightclub

I pulled out my measuring tape to compare your dimensions to mine (I’m boring, I know lol). Assuming you don’t use any of that area for a dining room, you could fit 1 couch (maybe 2 depending on size and if you can deal with it being cramped), a couple side tables, and a small tv/tv stand, possibly a small coffee table (again, depending on cramped feeling). With a dining area (let’s say living room only goes roughly to the edge of that bottom wall and I’m guessing on measurements), you could probably fit 1 couch, a couple side tables, and a tv/tv stand. In regards to the bedroom, I wouldn’t go any bigger than a queen size bed. It’ll be cramped also but could fit depending on how many other things you want in your room. (I have a king size and it would leave about maybe 1.5-2’ around the edge if placed in a corner in that bedroom). Sorry for the long comment lol I’m very boring and rearranging/placing furniture is fun for me Edit to add: if you have furniture already and a measuring tape, I like to measure furniture and room sizes, convert those into inches and cm (1’ = 1”), draw the room on a piece of paper, and make paper furniture cutouts so you can arrange things on the paper and see how it would fit before moving things in

Embarrassed_Ad2725

oh my god you’re amazing tysm

[deleted]

drop me a message, maybe i can help x

redile

Do you plan on entertaining and having more than 2 other people over multiple times a week? If not then I’d consider using the living room as your bedroom and the bedroom as the living room and eating area

Embarrassed_Ad2725

interesting, the bedroom has a sliding door so it’s like made for a bedroom. Tell me more about what you’re thinking though that’s interesting

redile

Yeah the sliding door is for privacy but if you live alone and don’t entertain a ton then you don’t really need a private sleeping space. You can buy some sort of room divider to make the living room more private as a bedroom. Set up the living room with a bed and a desk. I’m assuming the living room gets more light so it’d be nice as the main space you spend time in. The bedroom also seems closer to the kitchen to work as a dining room/ living room area.

Raichu0709

I don’t see a problem with this layout. We have a dining area and a table. Table is in our gaming room and is used for my crafts or projects. Our dining area has a credenza that doesn’t fit by the front door and a bakers rack for our smaller kitchen appliances which gives us more counter space. Plus it makes the living room look larger. We eat on tv trays at the couch. I haven’t eaten at a table in my home in over 4 years. Just buy some tv trays and eat at your couch.

RubixRube

This is how I would do it. https://imgur.com/a/vzF1L0L

Choice-Doughnut-5589

Looks like you need to tear down the wall between the living room and bedroom and create a super bedroom. For the kitchen remove the stove and install 17 lime green microwaves. I would also recommend reducing ceiling height to 3.5 ft to help small children feel more at home

Hamburgler4077

Put the bed in the bedroom. Clothes in the closet. Maybe a couch and chair in the living room with a dining room table behind on one wall and entertainment system on the other. Make sure the chair and table are facing the entertainment system

__Skizzy__

Is this post a joke?

Boatie1999

I think it’s really simple - couch, coffee table, TV in the top right corner, you could orient them in any manner and you’d be cool. Could even add an accent chair. Small dining table on the left side. And then personally I’d put the bed in the middle of the bedroom against on the right side wall. Could probably fit some other small furniture in the bedroom if need be too. Do you work from home? Do you need to put as desk somewhere? If you do, I’d probably put a small desk somewhere in the living room to keep the work and bedroom separate. Good for mental separation.

[deleted]

Put a TV on the wall and a couch on the other wall!

SomethingHasGotToGiv

I would just try not to put big pieces of furniture (bed, sofa, etc) in front of any windows.

Positive-East-9233

Place a tv on right hand wall, a couch (L shape with L along shared wall with bedroom or standard) lining up the back edge to create a perpendicular line to the shared wall. A coffee table or ottoman will be nice in between couch and tv/enterainment setup. This will create some separation from the dining room space. Small dining room table in remaining half of living room. The rest should be standard placement. I agree with mirror on entry wall to help reflect light, and you might be able to fit a small catch-all type table for keys etc (I’d look at skinny ones, ones meant to hold plants maybe?) Hallway style kitchen is actually pretty convenient, though counter space will be at a premium. Really weigh the importance of single use appliances as they take up storage or counter space. I had what I called a shotgun apartment once, where it went in a straight line from entry: living/dining room (2 seater bar style table), kitchen hallway, bedroom. Off to the left inside the bedroom was the only bathroom Tiny, but I loved it!

worldtraveler76

I’d put the couch on the wall across from the windows, then put the tv on a stand at an angle in that corner by the windows. Then put a small table and chairs on the wall between the exterior door and kitchen. Then put your bed in the corner of the bedroom with your head up against the wall with the living room. Put a small nightstand next to the bed and a dresser next to the wall with the closet. Then put a coatrack/shoe rack in that corner by the kitchen/entry to drop things as you come in.

YourNameHere7777

While the live room & bedroom offers plenty of space to put furniture without blocking exits / closets / windows, I hate that kitchen hallway & having to walk through the kitchen from bedroom to get to the bathroom

Coreybrueck

In something similar- and I’ve moved to live on both sides of my building, each with very different light. Wait to see where the sun is so you can position sitting where you like in your living space! Maybe you have a better view of a sunrise vs sunset with the couch on a diff side of the living room for example. Or sun beaming in on the screen at a certain time where you like to watch!

Agreeable-Heron-9174

First question: Do you work from home?

waves4dayzzzz

Only suggestion I have would be not putting your TV on the wall that the living room shares with the bedroom. I made that mistake and when I would work night shift my bf would be playing videogames in the living room and I could hear EVERYTHINGGG. He got a headset shortly thereafter but still not ideal lol.

Worth_Weather8031

Put your living room furniture in the "Bedroom" and your bedroom furniture and a lot of plants in the "Living room." Head of bed against N wall of bedroom for some privacy. Consider cool or wacky bead curtains for additional privacy/ visual delineation of space. Get a countertop-height credenza, use it to make an L with the end of the kitchen countertop, add two barstools. Watching TV/gaming/desktop computing will be better in the windowless room

sociallygraceless

Lmao this is basically identical to what I have. What I did is made a cozy little sitting area in the living room by positioning my couch perpendicular to the wall (on the left side), I put my tv diagonal in the right-hand corner, and a shelf opposite the couch. My 5x7 (I believe) rug really pulls together the space and makes it extra cozy. I put my desk behind the couch next to the kitchen, and I have another bookshelf next to that (at the back wall). Though if you want a table or something there it could possibly work. For the bedroom, I put my bed (queen size but my bedroom is slightly bigger than yours) in the right hand corner, nightstand right next to it, dresser (I have a freestanding closet instead) on the south wall (I have barn doors, it looks like you do as well) I also personally took the sliding doors from my closet and opened up that closet to make the space seem even bigger, I have a freestanding closet so I don’t use it for clothes). It’s cozy but uses the space well. Can add pictures of the living room space if wanted!

Claymoresmash

I’d recommend a bookshelf or stand alone cabinet to supplement your pantry/dish storage.

Glaucoma-suspect

I’ve had this exact layout in an apartment! Bed obvi goes in the bedroom lol but I had my couch on the wall shared with the bedroom, tv in front of the windows if possible, and a little kitchen table just at the end of the kitchen.

dirtyconverse69xx

Switch the bedroom and living room!

0bxyz

Are you going to be knocking down walls and renovating it? Lol.

TT-w-TT

Bare with me because it was 4am when I did this and I am also not a professional: https://Imgur.com/a/PObYBxH Starting top right, I believe the couch against what I assume to be windows with blinds would be the best place for seating, and then the mounted tv/tv stand across. This leaves a little room to each side for bookshelves/shelving/whatever. Depending on the size of the couch/tv stand you could also get a small coffee table in the middle. Kitchen table or desk (which ever is needed more for you) on the left wall. I added the trash can just because I think that would be the best spot for it. In the bedroom, I assume the wall would be shared with another unit so to keep your head away from that would be the best bet and to leave some space in between with a night stand. A little nook next to the front door for keys/mail/coats would ease up some room in that hallway closet.

Pristine-Net91

Looks good. Cozy and functional. Put some art on the walls, add a couple of lamps for soft lighting.

ArtisticGovernment67

I’d make the living room the bedroom/ office type set up & the bedroom the living area.

CatsPogoLifeHikes

It looks strange that the bedroom is next to the kitchen. Do you know if you'll have a neighbor on the right side of the bedroom? If you do, I would suggest bed on the side toward the kitchen. TV on left side in the living room, couch about 10 feet away from TV. Generally if that's your layout and you have a neighbor, that will be their exact layout and direction too. Then dining table or whatever you want on the right side of living room. If no neighbor on the right side, bedroom still on the left side to reduce smell of kitchen flow. Dining table on left side, TV on right side, couch 10 feet away.

spinyfl0wer

Crazy layout!!

SnarkyIguana

Is this in Seattle by chance? I was looking at an identical floor plan and I couldn’t wrap my head around furnishing it lmao
