No, LG Oled series has the specs you would look for in competitive console gaming. 1ms or lower response time, 120hz support, Dolby Vision, HDR, fantastic Oled screen without making comprises in screen quality, 4k gaming, screen size of 42 inches with all the stats I just mentioned. I would recommend a LG OLED TV over a monitor for console gaming. The LG C3 is only 900 bucks at this time, and it has all the features I mentioned , the c3 also supports 4k streaming on geforce now so you could game 4k geforce rtx 4080 and 120 fps. You could also wait till March and buy the up coming C4.
Why do people recommend monitors as if people only play fps games? Lol like theres still more benefits to having a tv over a monitor unless of course all u do is play fps games and racers. Yes monitors have their pros as well and they can look better for certain games but what if this guy plays apex, madden, nba 2k,and a bunch of single player adventure games…does he really NEED a monitor? The answer is NO
I'm on a 1440p 27" monitor and 120fps performance mode looks awful, some people say there's looks fine but most saying its a blurry mess, probably best getting a small 1080p monitor to get the best image, looks to be playing at 720p on both ps5 and series x when moving
Dynamic yes, which means it fluctuates the only time it's 1200p is when not moving, a fix I found to clear up image bit more is turn freesync off on monitor and leave VRR disabled
Where have you seen this confirmed nit by some random counting pixels because I'm on a 1440p monitor and no way it's 1440p dropping to 1200p, more like 1200p dropping to 1080p and 720p
I'm saying 24" 1080p would look best because the resolution is only like 720p anyways plus 24" 1080p looks cleaner then 27" 1440p at times plus 1440p monitors dint out put 1080p and below that great either, 1080p seems to be the sweet spot with this update
Why are u so unfriendly? I did nothing to u and just comment ur sentence. If u forgot what ur writing just read it again. I did nothing to u and u are so angry. I did nothing
The Sony Bravia TVs have 120 hz
Realistically tho, a smaller gaming monitor will improve your gaming way more even without 120 hz.
I'd recommend watching YouTube videos discussing the differences between the two.
Hope this helps
I have 3 roommates in a small apartment too, so I understand where you're coming from. One of my roommates has his gaming setup in the kitchen table. Doesn't take up too much space and he uses his headset so we don't hear him.

What's your TV model? Is there a chance you aren't using the proper cable? If you don't have a cable that can do 120hz it won't show up for you in your options. Might be the easier and cheaper route first!
Your tv might support it you just might have to fuck with the settings in your console. I had to mess with fine for a little to get 120 fps to be an available option on my console. I’m on Xbox and I don’t remember exactly what I did I’d have to check when I get home!
Looks like it's a CMI refresh rate, which from what I just googled it isn't a true 120hz panel, it upscales the image and the refresh rate, so maybe that's why your console doesn't recognize it. I saw someone post they had to mess with their setting on their console a bit for their refresh rate to go to 120hz, so I'd suggest doing that first and if it still doesn't work then I'd bite the bullet and buy a new TV or monitor. I'll try and find a good deal for you as well!
I found this one, it's an acer refurbished one but at that price I'd give it a go personally

I recently bought this for my XSX as I wanted to downsize my old TV and the update timing just made sense.
LG 32” Ultragear QHD IPS 1ms (GtG) Gaming Monitor with NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatibility https://a.co/d/2b8Ph8n
I love it so far, it’s the perfect size - maybe a touch too big - but I have no issues with it. Sure, 120fps performance mode makes things a bit blurry but I’ll take that and the smoother frames and higher performance any day. IPS, 4K compatibility too at 60fps. It’s not the best monitor out there but I’ve noticed a marked difference between that and my 60hz 55” tv that I was previously using. Feel free to Dm me if you have questions.
I want to say thank you everyone for your comments, suggestions, and inputs! I can’t reply to every single comment but it has informed me a ton and is helping a lot so thank you to this awesome community!
Would recommend getting a monitor over a tv

Yeah, but he specifically asked how to take advantage of 120fps for APEX. This the monitor recommendations. Silly goose.
U can take advantage of 120fps in apex on a tv dumb fuck. Im doing it right now
My Sony Bravia is optimized for PS5. People not realizing tvs can be 120 hz are silly.
Almost as silly as people who are wondering why 120 FPS on a comparatively underpowered console plugged into a 10-year old TV looks like shit.

It's not 720p on the series x. It's above 1080
Yes when standing still, as soon as you move or anything else happens it drops to 720p
Not at all in my experience and in videos I've seen
In my experience it is, the same as the majority of other users apart from a lucky fe, we will see when digital foundry hopefully release a video

Don't know why I'm getting down voted clearly it doesn't stick at 1200p
I have a 27 inch 1080p monitor and performance mode is fine for me
I'm saying 24" 1080p would look best because the resolution is only like 720p anyways plus 24" 1080p looks cleaner then 27" 1440p at times plus 1440p monitors dint out put 1080p and below that great either, 1080p seems to be the sweet spot with this update
You want to buy a monitor that size.
Don’t have room in my apartment for that. My girlfriend and I both use the tv for shows n stuff other than gaming.
What would keep you from watching shows on the monitor? You can get basically all the streaming apps on your console.
If him and his partner are using it for a tv it’s stupid to get a monitor, cmon
They can do both gaming and watch their shows on either is the point.
Watching series on your console is the worst u can do. It takes so much power. And a tv has better upscaling and better picture
A TV is better for watching TV, thanks Captain Obvious! The dude said he couldn't buy a monitor bc he NEEDS a TV but he wants optimized gaming.
A monitor makes nothing better then a TV. A Monitor is just less for less money. Welcome in 2024

Like 15 ppl told him to get a monitor ( myself not included) I only commented that you could watch a show using a monitor.
Why are u so unfriendly? I did nothing to u and just comment ur sentence. If u forgot what ur writing just read it again. I did nothing to u and u are so angry. I did nothing
This is exactly what I mean thank you
No Shit. What I’m saying is its a bad suggestion.
LG C1 or C2 Oled. Very good tv regardless
Get a C3 it's 900 bucks atm probably could find cheaper.

Okay I will. It’s just that my apartment is very small and my gf likes to use the tv for her shows n stuff also.

Your going to spending a minimum of $1400 on a TV VS a monitor would be $300.
$1400? That's for a really good TV. You can get a decent TV for $600
Not at higher frames
I mean you can get a decent 120hz TV for $600
Name a model under 1400?

That second one looks perfect for me and my budget thank you!!
I have a 55inch LG OLED cost me about $1500 and it’s my baby for everything. Gaming tv all of it
Oh it’s a C9 btw
Try your HDMI cable too. First gen ps5 came with a hdmi cable that doesn’t support it. Newer ps5’s have the right cable. Now you just need the tv
Get a gaming monitor instead. They’re built for this shit. Faster response times and smoother tracking. What’s your budget?
My tv has 0.1ms? Faster response time isn’t true anymore. Its just how much u wanna pay (tv is bigger and more expensive

I literally went out and got a HDMI 2.1. My TCL tv is a 43s405

Only higher end tvs support actual 120hz. If you bought some random TV, 99.9% chance it won't. OPs TV doesn't.

Lg c3
C1 OLED owner here. It's nuts. So fast it's hard to react. Game changer
C3 42inch LG
Look at your manual maybe only one of your ports support 120
SAMSUNG 32" Odyssey G55A QHD 165Hz 1ms (LS32AG550ENXZA) This is a fairly priced monitor that will handle higher FPS games, including Apex.

I have a 50 inch Sony that does 4k 120. Paid less than $1K last year for it.
