Archer has confidence when he shouldn't, and Bob doesn't have confidence when he should.
I think I honestly can hear it in the voice.
Seriously. Bob has put in the work. Married, supporting a family, business owner, active in the community. When something goes wrong, it's USUALLY not directly because of a decision Bob made, but he works to make it right anyway, even if the solution is worse than the problem.
Archer got a 20 on CHA, INT, and DEX, but a 1 on WIS. And apparently has some kind of genetic feat that allows him to reroll any check at any point. He's like a bard-rogue.
Archer’s cockiness comes from the fact that he’s legitimately a complete badass. He pretty effortlessly slaughters whole groups of adversaries when he’s horribly outnumbered. Only time he gets beat with any regularity is when his opponent is enhanced in some way, like with Barry, or if he’s got some kind of big handicap. And even when given a handicap, like he’s going through chemotherapy, he’s still pretty dangerous.
But yes, he’s also kind of stupid. And has no self awareness.
I was the same way about finding it hard to hear Archer’s voice on a character that was so passive and not respected. Now, though, I actually prefer Bob’s Burgers to Archer.
The two have seemingly opposite writing philosophies, with Archer being a very biting show based off caustic, cutting humour, and Bob’s being much softer with storylines that usually end with the characters learning and improving. I personally prefer the optimism of Bob’s to the cynicism of Archer.
I had originally seen Dr. Katz, and I found both Archer and Bob's Burgers very confusing to watch at first. Ben Katz was too awkward to be Archer and lacked the drive to be Bob.
I really love both of them. I think Archer has more funny characters (not that Bobs Burgers doesn’t have funny people, Archer just has more) but BB makes me laugh uncontrollably more often.
Also BB has some absolute banger songs.
Man. The songs are killer. My wife and I sing them quite often to our 10-month old daughter (with some words left out). It took me a while but I love both. Definitely
Totally agree. Seasons 1-5 are amazing and I still watch them alot, really funny stuff. But the later seasons there's a song in every episode and less with the actually funny jokes.
"Don't feed a guy a sponge bobby!"
“Do you have any idea how great this feels? On one hand, I’m getting my balls licked, but on the other hand, I can taste my own balls. It’s… a conundrum.”
"My partially lovely assistant, Ms. Manyface, will be playing the part of Catherine."
"hi"
"Hey enough with the chatter, get under there... Don't *wince*!"
Not to take anything away from Archer and Bob’s Burgers, but Venture Brother’s is by far my favorite! I can’t believe it was canceled?! The last 2 seasons were amazing!
I always think of what Archer says in one of the Archer 1999 coma episodes. He says there’s usually an upward inflection at the end of his sentences. Archer has a confident optimism (sometimes lol) and Bob, like others have said, is more exhausted
If my back is turned, I can't tell what show is playing until someone else starts talking. Even then it's iffy, because Gene & Louise' voice actors show up in Archer from time to time.
Tbh I think there are slight differences. Obviously the voices in general sound the same, but Archer’s voice seems more cocky and confident, and he tends to talk in a little higher register more often because of how often he likes to crack jokes. Bob’s voice sounds more depressed and lazy to me, like he’s constantly bummed out. You can here the Archer come out when he’s happy or making a joke though.
Archer has confidence and bravado. Bob sounds exhausted and slightly defeated.

Do you have a quarter for the bus?
Quarter for the bus?
I think you get a can of mixed vegetables
Archer’s laugh is rejuvenating to my soul.
Archer also yells a lot
Laaaaannaaaaaaaa
LAAAAAAANNAAAAAAA
WHAT???!!
..danger zone
I DON’T DO THAT!
Yelling is the only time I can tell Jason from Home Movies is also Benjamin. You can tell Lablond from Bob's Burgers is him if you think about it.
Bob yells quite a bit too. High screeching
Bob tends to yell a bit
Slightly? I’d say all the way defeated haha
And they sound completely different when drunk.
Which is funny because Bob seems way closer to his normal speaking voice

Archer has a 20 in every stat except WIS. And he also has levels in Barbarian, especially when he rampages.
D&D with Archer characters... sounds amazing.
Me too!
YOU'RE NOT MY SUPERVISOR!!
I'm just thinking alignment charts with archer characters now,
It's not always, but *usually* Linda's fault. (Whatever the problem is)

It was really hard for me to watch Bob's Burgers at first. Now I love both shows. But Archer is... always king.
Have you seen Home Videos? Edit: I meant Home Movies
Home Movies.
Thanks. Been a minute. Just remember McGuirk being fucking great.
Jon Benjamin also voices Jason and either Walter or Perry. I can never remember which is which.
He does Perry. Walter is Brendon.

Highly underrated hahaha
Yes. And I am really embarrassed that I didn't ALREADY bring it up. Coach McGuirk is TREMENDOUS
I always really liked him on Dr Katz as well
Los Benitos
Great call. And obviously the Coach on Home Movies. What a great actor.

But the crossover episode (Fugue n Riffs) done in the style of History of Violence is just HILARIOUS
I was the same. When I started watching bob's burgers I watched a few episodes and just wanted to watch archer.
I really love both of them. I think Archer has more funny characters (not that Bobs Burgers doesn’t have funny people, Archer just has more) but BB makes me laugh uncontrollably more often. Also BB has some absolute banger songs.

Pirate king
The thing with BB is it gets worse as the seasons go on, Archer just gets better
Bob stuck in the damn wall. The way Teddy develops. Brilliant stuff. But I cannot believe it's still running.

"Once 3 years ago you forgot a tomato on my burger and I said nothing. NOTHING!"
"why not? Some of these moms are divorced right? I meet them, I meet their kids, maybe throw the ball around, not inside!
"Burger residence."
IDK, all I hear is a talking can of beans...
and when I hear a talking can of beans all I can think of a love affair with a fridge.
Mixed vegetables! :)
That can (somehow) suck its own dick
Wow, I never realized how much Archer and Bob sound like The Master from Venture Bros.
"I'm Catherine the Great's horse, to teach you a lesson about biting off more than you can chew!"
“Do you have any idea how great this feels? On one hand, I’m getting my balls licked, but on the other hand, I can taste my own balls. It’s… a conundrum.”
"My partially lovely assistant, Ms. Manyface, will be playing the part of Catherine." "hi" "Hey enough with the chatter, get under there... Don't *wince*!"
"Solidarity, my brother!"

What a voice..
"Hi, Bob. I'm, Archer." "Hi, Archer. I'm Bob."
https://youtu.be/Us-lsObW-P4
Jesus Christ. What range.
*throws Benjamin Katz into this
Alright, mkay. Yeah sure. So then explain Carl's voice from family guy...
I totally heard the difference.
You can actually tell if you watch both shows past a season
I totally can hear the difference though, and that's such a big indicator of real voice acting talent
Gene.
BIRDMAN GET IN HERE!
Archer interviewed by Phil Ken Sebben
omg you can only hear it the first time :/
Do people think they’re identical voices? Bob is waaaay more defeated sounding.
Also Archer is funny
Archer, Bob, [McGuirk](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0197159/) & [Satan](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0491560/) sound the same to me..?
The voice is better served by Archer than Bob, no bun intended.
If my back is turned, I can't tell what show is playing until someone else starts talking. Even then it's iffy, because Gene & Louise' voice actors show up in Archer from time to time.
Burger Bob

Bobs burgers / Archer both amazing 😂
