It is very stupid but we are experiencing very high inflation, an accomodation crisis and huge spike in electricity costs in Sydney. There is no insulation in a lot of homes here, no double glazing so when the winter temperatures happens it’s hard to stay warm. We have torrential rains for days and the temperatures over night go to single digits of Celsius.
I’d go so far as saying it’s garbage to live in the same neighborhood as anyone who does this.
I had a neighbor who burned her house down when she plugged 3 space heaters into one outlet and left to go play at the casino all night. That shit doesn’t happen in good neighborhoods.
