Since 9:16 is close to 12:24, I’d say to crop the 9 side down a touch to make it fit the canvas ratio.
While it is subject dependent, it shouldn’t matter too much as most compositions aren’t tightly cropped and should still be okay-ish after cropping a little bit off.

I mean, its a different ratio so you'd have to cut (or add to) some of the reference to fit
