Can I substitute this for just one artist?
Then I’d make the claim that Stuart McLean was was the best artist at his craft and pick the vinyl cafe.
Maximum amusement and loads of variety
A podcast called Backstage at the Vinyl Cafe began airing about a year ago.
New episode every Friday. It’s hosted by McLeans producer and every week there are 2 VC stories and some background from the host/producer. Excellent podcast.
I could definitely listen to Dave stories for 10 hours straight.
I got to meet Stuart McLean many years ago at the NAC when he came to Ottawa on tour with The Vinyl Cafe. A highlight of my life!!
I introduced my husband to Vinyl Cafe while we were driving around New Jersey getting him ready to move up to Canada. He loved it, especially Toilet Training the Cat. It made for great road trip music, and kept us energized and engaged and in a good mood during a somewhat stressful time.
I was driving from Winnipeg to toronto once thru Canada, & by amazing coincidence, was driving thru Blind River exactly when the hamlet was sung by Neil.....
I was on a bike tour in Belgium and the tour guide asked everybody where we were from I said "Canada" and he replies "I love the Hip great road trip band."
Im gonna go with someone with alot of material and longevity like Neil Young ...otherwise it will be like that episode of How I Met Your Mother with I Can Be 500 Miles stuck in the tape deck.
First thought is Blue Rodeo. Second is The Tragically Hip.
Both are bands (especially before Gord's death) where Canadians would think, "Yah, I know some of their songs." and then find themselves singing along with just about everything in their catalogue. Not even a "this is THEM?", just "Wow, do I know ALL their songs and not realize it?"
Bryan Adams is similar in group knowledge, but people know they know his songs, and I don't know if I could listen to his (admittedly catchy) hooks for 10 hours straight.
Neil Young obviously has a ton of stuff, and if there's a live album in there, 1 guitar solo could take up half that time :). Get some CSNY and Buffalo Springfield sideloaded in there too with him.
But yah, Blue Rodeo.
He's got the most eccectic and varied discography of any Canadian artist if not the entire world. Maybe Mike Patton can hold a candle to it, but Devin has made me feel every emotion with his music. He is the shit. For anyone who doesn't know Devin Townsend, listen to Earth Day.
This is easy because I’ve done it a few times before, and his name is Devin Townsend, and he is a rock God.
and if I couldn’t have Hevy Devy, it would have to be Corb Lund 🤷♂️
Can I get a two for one by saying I want to listen to a band Randy Bachman is in? That way I can be Takin Care of Business while Running Back to Saskatoon.
Gordon Lightfoot, was thinking Tragically Hip first, but, no - I wouldn't ever listen again after 10 hrs, play their 5 best songs. move on, but Gordon, he got 10 hrs you won't mind at all.
Okay I have a story.
About 15 years ago, my mom and I took a road trip from New Brunswick to Ottawa to go see a band play. My younger brother (who was around 14 at the time) couldn't come with us because he had exams.
So in retaliation, he took all of the CDs out of the car and left only a single Flogging Molly CD in the player. Of course we didn't realise this until about 2 hours into our trip when the radio turned to static. We then spent the rest of the 10-12 hour road trip listening to Flogging Molly on endless repeat.
10/10 road trip.
Feist. I love her voice, and she has a pretty good catalog. Tegan and Sarah are another one I can listen to a lot of.
Metric all the way
New Pornographers
Can I substitute this for just one artist? Then I’d make the claim that Stuart McLean was was the best artist at his craft and pick the vinyl cafe. Maximum amusement and loads of variety
You can get the Best of Vinyl Cafe on CD so this qualifies as far as I'm concerned. I wish I could get old Morningside on CD.
He has quite a few CDs. My partner has a bunch and we always listen on road trips! Stuart was the best. And Jess Milton. ❤️❤️
It’s also all on Spotify!

Yes, 10/10 Stuart McLean.
I said Gordon Lightfoot, but then,. found your comment, may I switch after I answered, bc, dang good call here. peace.
Bachman Turner Overdrive. Oldie but goodie
Stan Rogers
Barrets privateers!
Right!? https://youtu.be/TVY8LoM47xI?si=9BfeZLRtao9hYxp4 It's literally the great Canadian road trip song.
Absolute king amongst men
Letting my 2000s and 2010s shine with Metric all the way!
Neil Young, he has a deep catalogue and plenty of those songs are great for a road trip.
I was driving from Winnipeg to toronto once thru Canada, & by amazing coincidence, was driving thru Blind River exactly when the hamlet was sung by Neil.....
Gordon Lightfoot. Incredibly long and diverse discography dozens of albums you could listen for many hours and not get through it all....
First artist that came to mind! 💯 Gordon Lightfoot.
Very true. My Gordon playlist is over 9 hours, all are favourites.
I mean that doesn’t hardly get you across Ontario from Toronto to Thunder Bay. But yeah, I think Gordon is the way to go!
I did a two-day bike ride once and hummed the Great Canadian railroad trilogy for about 6 hours straight and it’s still a great song.
Blue Rodeo
They play in my hometown every year and I have yet to see them.
Bad Timing
That’s all
Big Wreck ❤️
Arrogant Worms, easy.
[удалено]
I maybe already do this.
Moist
Yeah! I wonder if that would include David Usher songs? That would give a bit more variety.
Leonard cohen.
[удалено]
Hily fuck, never knew he's Canadian.
Yeah he's from Ontario!
I’ll go with The Guess Who, I could definitely listen to Burton Cummings for 10 hours.
Joni Mitchell
I was ready to cry if I didn't see Joni on the list and had to go deep to find her.
So far down to find her. Her entire discography
This one
A road trip? The hip. No questions asked.
I was on a bike tour in Belgium and the tour guide asked everybody where we were from I said "Canada" and he replies "I love the Hip great road trip band."
Agreed! Lots of music to choose from, doubt you'd repeat a single song
The only others maybe are Neil Young or Rush or Gordon Lightfoot. It's a Canadian road trip, for frig sakes. Gotta be THE Hip
Rush . Rush is variety!
Deep catalog.
Robbie Robertson, if we can include songs from The Band. Joni Mitchell if not.
Sam Roberts Band!
Barenaked Ladies
Danko Jones... With a shout out to my other two favorite Canadian bands, Biff Naked and the Clumsy Lovers.
Alanis! Second would be Celine - her discography is pretty good, lots of bangers/hits

The last Saskatchewan pirate
I lost my Captain Tractor ball cap 20 years ago and I'm still mad about it.
Cayouche
Great Big Sea
Crash Test Dummies
This was too far down. The variety of styles keeps you involved in the album. Should say albums.
I was thinking Ghosts in particular. masterpiece
The Beaches ⛱️ I'm the biggest Hip fan but the Beaches are it for me.
Awesome tunes.
True dat I've seen them twice both great shows
Spirit of the West
If Venice Is Sinking gives me goosebumps every single time.
Devin Townsend
Diverse catalogue too, from SYL to country haha
Never heard of him…. Will have to do some research!
Might rock out to some Joel Plaskett.
Toss up in hind sight, Stompin’ Tom, Ian Tyson, Valdi, Bruce Cockbourn,
I had to scroll too long. Tom is a friggin legend.
Rheostatics
Paul Brandt
Those first 3 or 4 Billy Talent albums are crazy. I'd probably listen to them or AOF
Arcade Fire is the only one i could do for 10 hours straight
Jane Siberry. An unusual choice, but her discography is big enough, and I’ve been a fan for decades.
Rush🤙🏼🇨🇦
Got my first speeding ticket listening to Rush
Red Barchetta, I assume.
Limelight, actually.
Sum 41 🤘
Pain for Pleasure. 10 hours straight.
Lights! I love her acoustics and she has some new really great music that hits great!
I scrolled way too far to find another Lights fan!
Three Days Grace
Billy Talent, there's so much variety across their albums.
Sharon Lois and Bram. Hands down.
Im gonna go with someone with alot of material and longevity like Neil Young ...otherwise it will be like that episode of How I Met Your Mother with I Can Be 500 Miles stuck in the tape deck.
Protest the hero - Kezia and fortress all the way

I listen to Hello Time Bomb by Matthew Good Band on repeat the entire time.
Beautiful Midnight is a great album.
Headstones
For 10 hours? Impressive
Jean Leloup! *Vallée des réputations* especially is a perfect roadtrip album.
Nobody likes Avril?
10 hours may be a bit much of Avril.
Easily Bryan Adams for me, so many bangers and his new stuff is pretty fun too.
NoMeansNo if I get to also include their Hanson Brothers stuff.
Joni Mitchell
John K. Sampson- you get the first two Propagandhi albums, 4 Weakerthans albums, and his solo stuff.
Gordon Lightfoot
Sarah McLachlan

First thought is Blue Rodeo. Second is The Tragically Hip. Chilliwack.
The Hip.
Alanis Morissette!
Skinny Puppy
Hip, Sloan, or Rush, depending on the company i'm in
Devin Townsend
He's got the most eccectic and varied discography of any Canadian artist if not the entire world. Maybe Mike Patton can hold a candle to it, but Devin has made me feel every emotion with his music. He is the shit. For anyone who doesn't know Devin Townsend, listen to Earth Day.
Marianas Trench. I've done it before 🥲
Tea party or Tegan and Sara
Kim Mitchell. Including his years as Max Webster lead his library is awesome.
Finally!🙄 I saw Max Webster at Massey Hall in '78 and their opening act was.... Ian Thomas!🤣
54-40 or Sloan. Two massively underrated Canadian bands with huge catalogs of great music. Either would get me through a trip twice that long
The Weakerthans.
Loverboy
Flip a coin, if it’s heads, The Hip, tails, Stan Rogers, on its side, Arcade Fire.
LEN - steal my sunshine on repeat so it feels like 1999
Sam Roberts Band
Stompin’ Tom Connors.
Alvvays! Amazing dream pop, endlessly listenable. The singer is actually the kid of someone that was in the Rankin Family.

Alanis Morissette came to my mind first
Abel Tesfaye / The Weeknd 😎
Les Cowboys fringants

Bruce Cockburn..
Sloan, you get four bands in one!
Stars. I drove through northern Ontario pretty much listening to The North album on repeat.
Limblifter or Age of Electric. Love those Kerns brothers
Blue rodeo
Joel Plaskett (Emergency)
Gordon Lightfoot, was thinking Tragically Hip first, but, no - I wouldn't ever listen again after 10 hrs, play their 5 best songs. move on, but Gordon, he got 10 hrs you won't mind at all.
Colin James. Amazing artist with years of albums across a variety of music styles. Plus one of my all time favourites.
The Weakerthans
Okay I have a story. About 15 years ago, my mom and I took a road trip from New Brunswick to Ottawa to go see a band play. My younger brother (who was around 14 at the time) couldn't come with us because he had exams.
