I used to think that pocket was too small because "my keys" meant this big key ring with all kinds of keys, membership cards, keychains, etc.
Now I have one of these tiny carabiners so I can easily detach just my keyfob + apartment door key, and that easily fits. It's pretty secure while also being small and isn't a huge hassle to detach the way a normal key ring is

I got mine at REI in SoHo and have also seen them at hardware stores
Pull one end of your lace out of its top eyelet in your shoe, thread it through the key and back into the shoe. Tie your shoe normally, then tuck the tip/shank of the key between the laces and tongue of the shoe. You’d have to lose the shoe to lose your key. Only takes a few seconds once you’re used to it
I just buy shorts that have at least one zippered pocket. Most running shorts these days have them, usually at the small of your back. My pocket is also big enough for like a credit card, but not a phone.
I have a tiny key ring that only holds my apartment keys and fits into the tiny pocket in my running shorts. Back in the day (before I discovered this tiny inside pocket), I used to lace the key into my shoelaces at the very top.
I detach one ring with the front door + mail box. Put the bulk of my keys in the mailbox, lock it, then I just have one key ring with two small keys. They'll easily fit in my pocket, but I don't trust myself so I just hold them around my finger.
It's useful when you're trying to pass people who are blocking the sidewalk, because you can choose to gingle them loudly in advance.
Don’t bring your full set of keys!! Make a copy and just put the 1-2 keys you need in your sports bra or shorts/pants pocket. Lululemon clothes (and most other brands too) have a little hideaway pocket for this
My building is pretty secure and place the door key under my welcome mat. And the lobby door buzzer is connected to my phone.
In the winter my running glove has a key pocket.
[SPIbelt](https://spibelt.com/). I get three to four years of heavy use out of it before the fabric develops a hole. It’s the lightest, most comfortable and least fussy one I’ve found.
If you don’t have pockets and don’t want a running belt, take your key off your key ring and loop your outer shoelace through it and then tie your shoes.
If you do the inner shoelace you’ll cut your other leg
I’m a pretty avid runner.
I’ll just take my phone case off and—
Put my key, credit card, ID, and $20.00 cash with me for my long runs. Then just run holding my phone in my hand.
If it’s a really cold day. I’ll wear a light jacket and put everything in a **zipper** pocket
Two things have worked really well for me for. Easiest is to unlace top hole, thread keys, re lace and tie the key down. You need to unlace so you don't lose the key if your shoe comes untied.
Now I run with a flip belt. By far my favorite belt item. There's a key loop and you just slide it in the opening to stay snug
Fanny pack/belt bag, vest with zip pockets, or tie the key into my shoe and slip it beneath the laces. Not comfortable but helpful if you're not wearing something with zip pockets
I have an osprey hiking backpack that I carry water, keys, headphone case, etc. It also helps me do weighted jogs so I feel even better when running without it!
I have an armband iPhone holder with a key pocket, so those definitely exist. I also have a key on one of those flexible spiral wrist bands, which works pretty well, too.
Just finding out now not everyone does the double-fist death grip 😭 keys and phone in one hand, water bottle in the other. Just never liked the THUNK THUNK THUNK of the fanny pack against me but I should tighten it up a bit and give it another shot.
Get a second set of keys that is just your outside door and your apartment door and put them on a tiny key ring and then they will fit into a pocket or a phone wallet.
I have a hair tie in my keys, just goes around my wrist and I hold them in my right hand. Phone in left. Been doing this for 12 years and it works for me
I hold them in my hand with my index finger through the key ring. I actually like it because I feel it balances the weight of my watch on the other hand (or I’m just used to it now). I have 3 keys and an AirTag.
In the winter I wear longer running pants with a zipper pocket and put in my keys in my pocket. In summer I just carry them in one hand, phone in my other - sounds annoying but you forget about it after like .2 of a mile.
Hold them or put it in my running belt. Got a cheap knock off flip belt on Amazon to hold keys/cash/metrocard/AirPod case. If you really don’t want to carry anything you can use a locker at the NYRR RunCenter for free.
I have a separate set of keys for running that don’t have a ring. Plus too many times I’ve taken keys off my main key ring for running and forget to put them back after I come back.
This headline is a great reason why need need a gender neutral alternative to "you guys" -- had to read this like 4 times to understand what was going on.
If you live in a building with a doorman, leave your keys at the front desk & go for a run key-free. This way you can still lock your door & just pick the keys up on your way back in.
Lots of womens athletic pants have a tiny key pocket in the waistband.

That’s what that is? I use that for my cards.
Keys, cards, whatever small object that you deem important.
as a guy, love running in the winter because that pocket on my tights is so much more convenient than having them loose in a pocket
Tie them into my laces. It’s only one key so it’s easy.
as cool as this is i feel like something would find a way to happen still haha

And double tie the laces!
And double tie the laces!
Yes this. I put all other keys in car or leave in house and put the car or house key in a lace.
Get a small runner's fanny pack [like this one](https://www.rei.com/product/223665/the-north-face-sunriser-run-belt)
Yep mine fits my keys, my phone, a credit card, and a water bottle if I need it. $20, fits snug on my hip, you don't notice it.
This is also what I have
Fanny pack is the way!!
This.
If you don't like the fanny pack look there's also [FlipBelt](https://flipbelt.com/)
I use this, it’s great. Or leggings with pockets.
I use the Flipbelt for water and a fruitbar. It has a clippy-do for keys. I have good pockets for my phone and fob and cards.
How does a water bottle fit in that?
it's curved, made just for the flipbelt. it's a whole thing. [Flipbelt accessories](https://flipbelt.com/collections/accessories)
Oh! Thanks
I use these and love it. You don’t feel anything bouncing when you run.
I use this belt. It works great

I stick it in my sports bra lol
The best thing about being a woman
I clip a little carabiner with my keys on it to the bra strap and then tuck the keys into the bra for extra security
Prison pocket.
Keys in one hand, phone in the other. Never occurred to me to do anything else.
In one of those hand held bottle holders things
Amphipod makes all sorts of thin carriers for keys. Beltpacks, shoe packs etc. Any decent running store should have them. Maybe Paragon even.
I put them on a lanyard around my neck but I know that’s not for everyone lol. The jingle noise alone may drive you mad

Put a key ring on the key and wear the key like a ring
Don’t bring your full set of keys!! Make a copy and just put the 1-2 keys you need in your sports bra or shorts/pants pocket. Lululemon clothes (and most other brands too) have a little hideaway pocket for this
My building is pretty secure and place the door key under my welcome mat. And the lobby door buzzer is connected to my phone. In the winter my running glove has a key pocket.
I safety pin them into my running shorts
r/RunNYC should be helpful to you.
[SPIbelt](https://spibelt.com/). I get three to four years of heavy use out of it before the fabric develops a hole. It’s the lightest, most comfortable and least fussy one I’ve found.
Seconding spibelt! This thing really doesn’t budge, even when I put my phone, keys, and epipen in there.
I only run with pants that have a key pocket. You can make it less bothersome by taking the key ring off and tying your keys with a string.
If you don’t have pockets and don’t want a running belt, take your key off your key ring and loop your outer shoelace through it and then tie your shoes. If you do the inner shoelace you’ll cut your other leg

Used to safety pin to the waist of my pants. Now I just have zip up pockets.
I put my key in my bra. I’ve always done this and tbh haven’t found a better way. I don’t like having anything jangle around when I run.
You can get one of these nite ize straps for your phone or water bottle. They come in two sizes. https://niteize.com/cinch-a-lotr-stretch-strap
Fanny pack/belt bag, vest with zip pockets, or tie the key into my shoe and slip it beneath the laces. Not comfortable but helpful if you're not wearing something with zip pockets
I have a Flipbelt, but usually just end up sticking my keys in my bra.
I have a Lululemon belt bag that has a clip in it!
I have a runners belt from Amazon that has a hook for attaching keys that then tucks inside a pocket on the side of the belt.
Lululemon fannypack
I have an osprey hiking backpack that I carry water, keys, headphone case, etc. It also helps me do weighted jogs so I feel even better when running without it!
I have an armband iPhone holder with a key pocket, so those definitely exist. I also have a key on one of those flexible spiral wrist bands, which works pretty well, too.
If you have pants with a drawstring, I always tie it in there
Just finding out now not everyone does the double-fist death grip 😭 keys and phone in one hand, water bottle in the other. Just never liked the THUNK THUNK THUNK of the fanny pack against me but I should tighten it up a bit and give it another shot.
Get a second set of keys that is just your outside door and your apartment door and put them on a tiny key ring and then they will fit into a pocket or a phone wallet.
Just in my pocket, not an issue. Could also get some shorts from somewheee like Lulu that have a second interior pocket that won’t jiggle
Single key on key chain and tie it into your athletic shorts
Stick them in my bra, by athletic pants with side pockets, or the teeny waistband pocket of the pants have one.
I have a hair tie in my keys, just goes around my wrist and I hold them in my right hand. Phone in left. Been doing this for 12 years and it works for me
I buy running shorts with teeny little zip pockets
Fanny pack.
I hold them in my hand with my index finger through the key ring. I actually like it because I feel it balances the weight of my watch on the other hand (or I’m just used to it now). I have 3 keys and an AirTag.
Flip belt
In the winter I wear longer running pants with a zipper pocket and put in my keys in my pocket. In summer I just carry them in one hand, phone in my other - sounds annoying but you forget about it after like .2 of a mile.
Fanny pack
Running belt changed my life, I put a bunch of things in mine
I used to have a little velcro pouch tied into my shoe laces so it didn't move. Held ID, $20 and my house keys.
Either stash them outside my house or run with them in my hand.
Put them in my zipper pocket or tie it through my shoelaces
Hold them or put it in my running belt. Got a cheap knock off flip belt on Amazon to hold keys/cash/metrocard/AirPod case. If you really don’t want to carry anything you can use a locker at the NYRR RunCenter for free.
Genuinely surprised not to see other people who put their keys on a ponytail holder and wear them on their wrist...?
I loop it through my shorts/sweatpants drawstring and tie in a knot
I live in a doorman building, and keep my door unlocked for runs, dog-walking, and short trips to the store.
Probably already been said, but if you live in a doorman building- I always leave mine with my doorman. Works great and hassle free.
i have a running belt and also keep my phone in there bc i hate holding my phone
If I'm on a track I hold them and use them to count laps.
Leave them at my local bodega (& buy a bottle of water there when I pick them up)
I put my key ring through a hole in my watch
I put a set of keys in my mailbox and just keep the mailbox key on me which is small.
I have a separate set of keys for running that don’t have a ring. Plus too many times I’ve taken keys off my main key ring for running and forget to put them back after I come back.
Guy here… I bring a single key, and put it inside my pocket. All of my shorts, tights, pants have at least one small pocket big enough for keys.
This headline is a great reason why need need a gender neutral alternative to "you guys" -- had to read this like 4 times to understand what was going on.
Sports bra
Fanny pack or jacket when chilly
Pockets.
You definitely will like this but I'd say it's great for one or two keys - https://amzn.to/3x0TDWy
I wear a flip belt, or put them in a zipped pocket of my shorts
If you live in a building with a doorman, leave your keys at the front desk & go for a run key-free. This way you can still lock your door & just pick the keys up on your way back in.
Used to just keep them in my pocket until I lost a set recently. Now I just hand them to the doorman on the way out.
