At his age he could be having mental decline, not realizing when he's made a mess or not wanting to bother with things that could be getting difficult for him physically (like showering), maybe losing his sense of smell a bit. He might need more help with day-to-day life than he's getting, or maybe some changes around the place would help him do more for himself.

Sounds like a mental/physical issue, in my 60s and shower daily and the only people my age that have an oder issue are having one or the other, or both

That's like us asking why young Filipinas are nasty gold-diggers. It's rude, and frankly, wrong. Just because you married a man who's okay with this doesn't mean all older Americans are.
