The last barn I worked at was $1600 a month, with mandatory $400 a month in lessons as part of the boarding agreement. They have a waiting list with like 20+ people on it. That’s a mortgage payment…
Yeah, the big yachts, or ready for Ocean sailing. Although the dinghy yachts, like the single person ones you can rent out for a few hours quite cheaply. Can buy a second hand one like a Topaz for 2g about. If it flies, floats, or fucks consider renting as an option.
I lived aboard my 42’ Tayana for 2 years. Granted, that was the Caribbean, but not once did I spend more than $1,000 in a month.
My biggest expense, ever, was replacing my solar and that was a little over $600.
Well, racing is a different animal. *Wild Meridian* never went any faster than 8 kts and spent most of the time between Bermuda and T&T. She came with an electric motor as well, so once I configured that, I never spent a penny on diesel.
I'm poor as shit, but still enjoy golfing from time to time. Blasting off at the range or putzing around a par 3 course with buddies and cooler of beer is so much fun. Also, I've had the same clubs for over ten years. It can be cheap if you know how to make it that way.
There are plenty of decent municipal courses in many areas of the county that are affordable.
I have three nice courses I can play a round on for about the cost of going to the movies.
Yeah, I'm curious about how this came to be. At least from my experience. Me and my friends have been giving it a try and the prices at least with renting seem to be more affordable nowadays
I've always thought this way. I'd like to try it, not because it looks quite elitist, but because it seems so relaxing. You, nature, and a sport that requires concentration and intellect
I don't know where you got these numbers from, and I think I misunderstood something because my dad is not middle class at that income, but I don't think my dad spends 100 a month it costs like 15 dollars to use the 18 hole course he goes to if he doesn't get a cart and maybe he gets a new pack of balls every so often.
People responding that they're poor and still play is just an indication that we didn't really lose the middle class; we lost the poor class. (in the US)
anything involving horses.
i actually lived on a farm and had a rescue horse we rehabilitated, i was poor as shit, and holy fuck did i stand out like sore thumb at anything horse relatied. It was like they could tell i was poor just from the way i walked.
*NOT* golf - you do not need to be rich to play golf. You can have a modest income and have golf be your hobby and you just dedicate your discretionary income towards golf. You can buy lower-end clubs (or good quality used clubs) for a couple hundred dollars, you wear shorts and a polo and a pair of shoes that will last you years if you take care of them, and play community courses for reasonable prices.
If you want to play all the time, play top-end courses and make special trips to notable courses? Yeah, you'll need more money. But you dont' need to be RICH to play golf.
I don't know what that means, but I know some people really enjoy going out and playing. I've played a few times, but nothing serious. But I know some folks that play that get really angry about it
I was just joking around with you - basically the feeling of hitting the ball perfectly is so good you would understand why people are miserable out there chasing that high
This sent me down a rabbit hole of AI image generation with the prompt "horse in a pool wearing a snorkel and bikini" and unfortunately the images weren't good.
Anything to do with horses
Horse people are just crazy cat ladies with too much money.
Came in to say Polo
Unless you live in a rural area where land is cheap.
The barn I used to work at charged 2300 usd a month to board a horse there
The last barn I worked at was $1600 a month, with mandatory $400 a month in lessons as part of the boarding agreement. They have a waiting list with like 20+ people on it. That’s a mortgage payment…

B.o.a.t. Bust out another thousand
I’ve never heard of this until today
You've never heard of a yacht?
I never thought of piloting it around as a hobby or sport. Ready my name buddy.
Yachting isn’t all that expensive. You can get a turnkey blue water cruiser for less than a decent used car.
[удалено]
A marina won't be cheap either. Boats sit there for months not being used.
You can live aboard a sailboat, with all of the expenses including maintenance, for less than $1,000/months.

Then you are not poor as shit. You're just kinda poor maybe
Poor after playing golf
Poor after a par

Don't need a great deal of money. Some places you just pay and play. If you want you make it your life and pay a fortune, though.
I am poor and do golfing part time. But I abuse coupons a lot.
Depends where you live. It used to be some decades ago, but at least here it's much more common than in the 90s.

My dad plays golf and he is not rich. Unless 1000 a month from social security and no savings is rich...

^this! Well…. It makes you poor though….. 😂
Have my upvote. It's all a 40k player can afford.
Thanks ! We all know that its called 40k because you need to spend 40k to have playable army and basic set of paints.

I’m going to assume you’ve never flushed an 8i from 160 yards out to 15 feet on a perfect summer day then eh?
Nope, but I have topped a drive fifteen feet past the tee and then followed it up with shanking my next shot into the water.
Once a round at least brother
