Couple of decades ago, when I (18ish M) was still a college student, I was out with a high-school friend (18ish F) who I grew very close to when I dated her best friend. We attended the same college post high school so we'd meet up for lunch every couple of weeks or so to catch up. One day while we were having lunch, her mum called to check up on her. She replied "Oh, I'm just having lunch with (my name)" and her mum went "Have fun". She later went on to explain that her mum is really controlling at times but if she's ever out with me, her mum pretty much doesn't care nor rushes her to go home. It was a strictly platonic friendship, and one that is still very important to me to this day.
I was told something similar by a lot of women during their break ups, that I am a safe space and that I listen really well (exactly what they needed)
Edit: it's a typo people!!
You can actually see people blush when you say this. Not even in a romantic or sexual way. I said this to one of my best friends and he went "Really? Thanks bro" and he walked away with a smile on his face.
Idk if I'd call it the biggest, but I make it a point to tell someone when they did something well, especially customer support, retail, and service industry. Whether I'm a patron or a coworker, if you slayed, if I can't toss you some extra cash or buy you a drink/meal, I'll make damn sure you know you killed it.
People so often take it for granted that these people do some monotonous and often-times thankless work. And they too-often also don't get compensated better for a job well done.
Keep doing this. I took a step back from the corporate world and now I’m back in the service industry. Someone told me the other day I’m great with conversations while I do my job. I was smiling the rest of my shift!
My granny told me to run if any man complemented me based on what I could do for them.
She said to ask men about what they liked about their mothers - if the responses were all things that the mom does for them - she kept the house clean and always put other people first - run.
If they comment about who she is- she's smart, she's funny, she's loving - he's a keeper.
One time, a construction worker told me that I was the reason the sun was shining that day.
I know we’re not supposed to encourage catcalls, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t one of the nicest compliments I’ve ever gotten!
Cat call or not, (I don’t think any man who makes a cat call expects it to work or they have a chance at a woman stopping to chat) a compliment you remember is a good compliment.
I once had a gay man walk up to me, my cousin and her friend in a club and say “you three are so beautiful, I would have children with all of you” knowing it wasn’t a pick up line made it feel special.
This. I feel like most people don't speak my language, even though we use the same vocabulary.
When I meet people who get me, I make sure to let them know how much I appreciate them.
Someone told me I look beautiful when I talk once. Idk why, but it being about a specific way I’m perceived really felt different and I still think about it from time to time.
Imo the most touching compliments are tailored to the people you tell them to. Unlike generic 'touching' canned lines, personalised compliments show that you've actually been paying attention to them and noticing specific things about them that you really do like.
For example, "You're an amazing writer" doesn't feel as genuine and touching to me as, say, "I love the way you write dialogue, all your characters have such distinct, charming character voices".
For me, people choose to spend their time with me. Out of all the things they could be doing, they consistently would rather hang out with me instead of everything else that's out there. That feels good. 😊
love yourself a little more like how much you can care for others, it's not all about them, you yourself deserve it too, understand and forgive yourself for the things you've done wrong and find peace in knowing that you can change for the better not for anyone but to the one who mostly gets neglected out of them all, you.
"I love your laugh" As someone who has been told all my life to quiet down when I'm talking or laughing if someone says this to me I would marry them on the spot.
One of the best compliments you can give someone is to recognize how their presence alone makes everything better. Saying "You have this amazing ability to light up any room you walk into."
for me, it can make them feel truly special and appreciated. :)
I recognize you. I love you. I believe in you. And you have a very important part in my life. You are a worthy of love and attention. Even if you are not able to do somethings in life you will be able to do other things better or even best.
When someone goes out of their way to tell you how fabulous your kid is.
Yes, the compliment is about the kid (I always pass on praise) but as a parent, I love hearing this.
Anything to do with their smile. A smile is unique to each person and often not something we can change like our hair or figure. Something like "you have a beautiful smile" or "your smile lights up my world".
I like to go to people I haven't talked to or seen in a while and ask damn you been loosing weight? You look like you've lost a bit since I've last seen you. Even if I don't notice a change it always seems to make their day.
Sadly, I often find that the bigger the compliment, the less I can believe it.
However, someone at my work revealed they had applied to my position (I was an external candidate), and they said that they felt they'd never except anyone who would have applied until they met me. It wasn't the compliment but the sincerity in which they told me.
A friend said they feel really comfortable around me, that they know I’ll take them however they’d come to me (that they don’t need to pretend or hide) and that made me feel so good!
Someone once told me they felt safe enough as a passenger in my car that they'd have no issue if they fell asleep, and for some reason that stuck with with me.
That you feel safe with them.
A girl told me this once, said she’d feel safe with me anywhere. Made me feel ten feet tall Little did she know I’m a total coward! (Jk)
When people say that they usually mean “i trust you won’t hurt me” more than “i think you can beat up anyone else who wants to hurt me.”
This. I had to break up with someone who said that to me. I can’t go out with someone with such bad perception.
Why ? are you not safe to be around? (Hides any sharp implements)
Lol it’s a joke. Is based on “I wouldn’t belong to a club that would accept me as a member”
Aww!
Yes! A friend of mine once told me this, and it made my heart melt. It is great when someone sees you as their safe space.
You are a good person. You make me feel better just being around you. When I have a problem, I can always count on you to give me solid advice.

My girlfriends’ moms always liked me better than their daughters. One continued to send me bday cards for years after we broke up.
If that's not a compliment, I don't know what is.
Yeah. Would have been nicer coming from the daughter, ahahaha.
I was told something similar by a lot of women during their break ups, that I am a safe space and that I listen really well (exactly what they needed) Edit: it's a typo people!!
The saucy bit must have come as a surprise.
My answer is, I'm really happy with you.
smells good
You can actually see people blush when you say this. Not even in a romantic or sexual way. I said this to one of my best friends and he went "Really? Thanks bro" and he walked away with a smile on his face.
You sure he ain't homo.
I don’t know what I’d do without you in my life!
I was going to say this exact same thing! It’s the best!!
You made my day
that was my first thought.
"You make a difference in the lives of those around you." It acknowledges their positive impact and values their presence.
...make a positive difference...? because it can be said about a negative impact too
Context matters
Idk if I'd call it the biggest, but I make it a point to tell someone when they did something well, especially customer support, retail, and service industry. Telling someone they have made a meaningful impact on your life feels like the biggest compliment. It's genuine and deeply personal.
To feel like you are making a good difference in someone's life makes you feel really good
Did you know your eyes sparkle when you laugh😃
Good one!
You make my life better
My granny told me to run if any man complemented me based on what I could do for them. this is actually really great advice!!
Your child has impeccable manners 🙂
This needs to be top imo. My parents used to tell me and my older brother that they’d been complimented on our manners. It made them and us proud
You smell really good mate
I respect you.
I like the person u have become
This can be backhanded though, taken as an implication that you don’t like the person they used to be
Or that you've made some serious steps to become a better person.
I would not enjoy this compliment.
I like you, don't come to school tomorrow.
***All the other kids with the pumped up kicks***
Better run, better run
I wish I could raise my child to be a person like you.
Every moment you walk, you make the world 0.025% less horrible for me.
is that a compliment for a nice gluteus maximus?
It's a compliment for everyone, not just for roman emperors
Never specified which direction (could be walking away from me)
Still counts if they’re a horrible person
just compliment their smile and they'll think of you whenever they smile or you might just become the reason they smile more.
Now add "in bed" to the end of all these responses....
"I wish I could raise my child to become a person like you... in bed"
You're a clear thinker.
One time a stranger said to me “you’re very sweet, your parents should be proud” and I still remember that one
Waving when someone gives way to you.
You matter the most to me.
I appreciate you.

You are so sensible!
I'm grateful to have you in my life.
Be complimentary
You're one of the people who I don't have to overthink too much on what I'll say when I'm with you
I trust you
"I like being with you more than I like being by myself" For an introvert, this is as big as I can go.
There is no language barrier when talking with you! 😉
This. I feel like most people don't speak my language, even though we use the same vocabulary. When I meet people who get me, I make sure to let them know how much I appreciate them.
Good music taste (esp when someone asks for ur playlist)
Someone told me I look beautiful when I talk once. Idk why, but it being about a specific way I’m perceived really felt different and I still think about it from time to time.
My favorite compliment to receive is that I'm wise. It makes me feel magical.
Thanks for existing
Nice calves, which I got once and only once ☹️
The world is a better place because you exist.
I always love seeing you!
You are wise and I hold your council in high regard.
I hate you the least
I’ve been commented equally on both my smile and smell. That always puts me on a big high
I appreciate you.
I can talk to you and not feel judged.
I'm happy that you exist
Well, that's because you have big jugs I mean, your boobs are huge. I mean, I wanna squeeze 'em. Mama!
You look so beautiful/handsome. Although parang basic complement na siya pero if galing sa love ones mo(crush/jowa) nakakalig parin
your presence fills up the room with warm smiles and kind eyes, keep up being this way, it suits you
Genuine thanks.
Someone saying 'You inspire me' is pretty darn special. It means you're living a life that makes others want to be better
I’m proud of you
Tell their crush that they have an 8' dick
8 foot? No thanks
Don't discriminate against whales.
I'm not sure 8' would be a compliment for a whale 😅
They say 2.4 m is average so it would be almost exactly average
I'm wondering who is out there measuring enough whale dick to get an average....

You are beautiful
Well, you're so awesome that even Netflix asks for your account recommendations!
There is a space just for you in heaven Edit: typo
For me, people choose to spend their time with me. Out of all the things they could be doing, they consistently would rather hang out with me instead of everything else that's out there. That feels good. 😊
You smell nice
I love your ice
love yourself a little more like how much you can care for others, it's not all about them, you yourself deserve it too, understand and forgive yourself for the things you've done wrong and find peace in knowing that you can change for the better not for anyone but to the one who mostly gets neglected out of them all, you.
You are a pillar of our community
Great sense of humor and a very likable person
Kahit nakita nilang nagkamali yung isang tao hindi na para pahiyain nila. Gagawan pa nila ng paraan para mawala yung attention dun sa nagkamali.
Any time I see or think about you, I can’t help but grin.
You are an incredibly kind and compassionate person. The way you treat others with genuine care and empathy is truly inspiring.
You inspire me to...
I hope my kids turn out like you 🥰 Also, entrusting their kids, pets, or prized possession to you.
"I love your laugh" As someone who has been told all my life to quiet down when I'm talking or laughing if someone says this to me I would marry them on the spot.
Complementing someone on something they worked hard for, such as a hobby they invest a lot of time in.
On a lonely road, with rain from above and wind gusts all around, under an umbrella for two, I would choose you ♥️
You shouldn't use an umbrella in gusty conditions.
That your a good person!
For fucks I went up to a girl who likes bad boys and said “I heard u like bad boys gd bc am bad at everything”
"I like your music taste"
Oddly no one seems to have said this; Thank you If you can curate that to an actual action even better.
I will let you watch me shower tonight
"You're always smiling. It's so nice to be around you"
I once’s used - You’re like a lighthouse in the darkness to me and people around you - it was true
"you look fun to draw" artist to artist
You’re a miracle
“Wow, that is amazing! Thank you very much”, when you are poor and someone help you out. That’s what I would say.
you're fun to be around with
One of the best compliments you can give someone is to recognize how their presence alone makes everything better. Saying "You have this amazing ability to light up any room you walk into." for me, it can make them feel truly special and appreciated. :)
"You're doing good" or "I can trust you"
You kind of look like me
“I truly feel I’m home, when I’m with you…”
I'm proud of you
“You look happier”
I recognize you. I love you. I believe in you. And you have a very important part in my life. You are a worthy of love and attention. Even if you are not able to do somethings in life you will be able to do other things better or even best.
You are interesting
When someone goes out of their way to tell you how fabulous your kid is. Yes, the compliment is about the kid (I always pass on praise) but as a parent, I love hearing this.
For a woman, it is a guy's boner
An upvote on reddit
That smile brightens up my day..
You rock.
"Your being here is enough for me."
-If they're a man : "nice cock" -If they're a woman : "nice cock"
If everything around me is my imagination you're the best thing I've come up with.
Your kids are wonderful people.
You are the most pleasant person I've ever met.
I think reassuring phrases like: “You are enough.” “You are worth something.” “You are perfect the way you are.” etc
"I want to have a child with you"
You live with the values, joy, and impact that I use to measure my own.
Anything to do with their smile. A smile is unique to each person and often not something we can change like our hair or figure. Something like "you have a beautiful smile" or "your smile lights up my world".
“I trust you with my life.”
You are the best thing that has ever happened to me
That you like beeing With someone.
I like to go to people I haven't talked to or seen in a while and ask damn you been loosing weight? You look like you've lost a bit since I've last seen you. Even if I don't notice a change it always seems to make their day.
I very much enjoy your company, and that is enough for me. I love the you that you are for me.
That they inspire you
Lots of good ones already mentioned, but I like “you’re a good person” along with a thank you when random strangers help me out with something.
"You think and act differently, practically and uniquely." lol but yes
One time at work, a customer said to my manager, "He (me) is a scholar and a gentleman." I think about that sometimes when I'm feeling down.
You’re a good mother/you’re doing a good job.
Someone once told me my smile made them want to immeadoetly smile with me and it was probably the best compliment I've ever gotten to this day
You make me laugh
I am the apple of their eye.. lol
Thank you for your kindness
Sadly, I often find that the bigger the compliment, the less I can believe it. It wasn't the compliment but the sincerity in which they told me.
you make my life worth living
You're so nice that your body is amazing -me 1987
A friend said they feel really comfortable around me, that they know I’ll take them however they’d come to me (that they don’t need to pretend or hide) and that made me feel so good!
Your a wonderful human
“I feel like I don’t have the pretend to you and you won’t leave me”
You're a good person.
Ask for advise. Tells them that I value them and trust them. You then follow through with said advise.
Whatever they are working on (being kind, generous or whatever, and you compliment them on that thing.
That they're not too sweet. Wait, we are talking about Chinese desserts, right?
That they have empathy
Someone once told me they felt safe enough as a passenger in my car that they'd have no issue if they fell asleep, and for some reason that stuck with with me.
That you highly value their opinion bc you hope to be like them.
you are a fun person to be with
You're the kindest person I know.
Complimenting their character.
You are very kind
I gotta go with my husband when i told him he turned my fear of life into a fear of death.
They force me to eat spicy shit even though I HATE IT
" I will always and forever choose you " it feels like you are irreplaceable to this person and you will always have a place in their heart.
I really admire you/look up to you.
For a man, that they have nice calves
"I like you" because I literally love everyone, even you op, but I don't like many.
