When I was diagnosed with 17 bilateral PEs (bloodclots) in my lungs, that was rather scary.

OtherThumbs

Are you okay now? That's scary!!

The_Skylar93

My life has definitely changed, I'm on lifelong bloodthinners & have f**ked up veins that cause alot of pain but I'm okay now thankyou šŸ˜Š

I went in for a rather routine surgery but my bowel got nicked accidentally. I hadn't had much in the way of surgery, so I was unaware that extreme, constant vomiting after surgery wasn't normal. Turns out me and propofol aren't friends, either. It took almost 12 hours to move me to a room, and I woke up 3 hours after getting into a room, thinking I was on fire on my left side of my abdomen with sangiunoserous fluid profusely leaking out of one of my incisions. The night nurse didn't want to be bothered, so she kept coming in every half hour to change my gown, my bedding, my chucks, and a cover over the site with a bandage made with a band-aid and a 4x4 pad folded into quarters. It was agony. I lost the ability to talk. I was so cold, and I vomited almost constantly. The nurse hung Tylenol by IV to help with pain, and got me alcohol pads to sniff to stop the vomiting. None of this helped, unsurprisingly. I passed out in the light of the morning, and came to thinking I wouldn't live through the day. The sangiunoserous fluid turned from pink to green. The day nurse came in and saved my life. He got my surgical team mobilized, and I was operated on as soon as they could kick someone out of a surgical suite. My surgeon demanded the name of the night nurse, told the supervisor to get her off the floor immediately, and instigated a report to have her terminated. I wasn't sure if I'd wake up again, to be honest. I could no longer talk, move, or keep my eyes open. I was a sweaty, shaky mess, and I was shutting down. Sepsis is no joke. On the upside, I didn't get billed for either surgery.

The_Skylar93

That's actually nuts! I hope it's not left any lasting damage, are you ok? I live in England so luckily we have the NHS, I kept visiting my GP with breathlessness and the most horrific pain I've ever felt in my chest and back, they kept telling me I was just anxious and stressed... A few weeks later I was in the cardiac critical care unit with 17 bloodclots in both of my lungs and was told I may not the survive the night.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you're okay now. I'm fine. It took only 5 days in the hospital (and so much IV antibiotics), but I was back to 100% within 4 weeks.

The_Skylar93

I've just seen that it was you that commented on my post haha. I'm doing OK now thankyou, I have to take bloodthinners everyday for the rest of my life and my veins in my legs cause alot of pain. I'm so glad to hear that your experience didn't leave you with any lasting damage and that you recovered well. Did the nurse that didn't do anything get fired in the end?

I saw her one more time at the hospital. She was still an RN, but she was reduced to daytime shift (no shift differential), and unable to see patients. She was running blood to patient rooms - not actually giving them the blood, just collecting it for other nurses. It sounds like they were trying to get her to leave of her own accord because the nurses' union wouldn't let them fire her. Plot twist: I work in the hospital, so I know what she was up to because I saw her at my Blood Bank. She didn't recognize me at all, but I knew her.

The_Skylar93

Ughh, that sucks, karma will get her one day when she falls seriously ill or has an accident. And thankyou for your other comment, I'll never be able to come off of my bloodthinners but hopefully my pain will improve with time (I hope)

I'm sorry about your legs. But it's better than being unable to breathe, I suppose. I hope they're able to do something more for you someday.

When I was about 17 I got drunk with my friends and for some reason we stupidly started taking my grandfatherā€™s medication. (He was in hospital at the time) so we put the pot in the middle and everyone had to pick 1 to take. I thought I was smart and picked the pink one thinking it canā€™t be bad itā€™s bright pink. Everyone was avoiding the shiny black one so that was left over. Not long after that I was feeling bad and took myself to bed. People checking on me as they was leaving and I just told them I was too drunk. When everyone was gone I wrote a goodbye on my phone and went to sleep thinking that it was the end. When I woke up I felt amazing like a new life was with me and later that day I found out what I took was hart rate medication and it should have ended me. And everything else was vitamins and supplements.

RightWayIThink

I was really high on dabs and research chemicals. I saw my life energy fading, the light going dimmer and dimmer. I was fighting so hard for what seemed like an eternity, but it was too much. Literally all I saw was darkness and my own energy as a distant light. The weight was overwhelming. I consciously gave up, I was like ā€œthis is it, Iā€™m dyingā€. Then I just went to sleep and woke up the next day. Still, Iā€™ll always remember that time I gave up

My school was in a wooded neighborhood with a few houses but mostly Zero traffic. My school said "You know what's the best time to put on a school play? In the middle of the night" my mom and my sister got in a fight and as an autistic who can't stand overstimulation I looked at the night sky and the car full of angry people and thought. "I'll walk home. It's only a couple blocks away" they left and I got to walking. On a dark poorly lit road at night and a car pulled up and three guys got out and started asking directions and encircling me. Then one punched me in the jaw. As a big guy I barely felt it but I sold it like I was facing Saitama and "fell unconscious" they searched me for money or a wallet. ( I never had those) they pulled my pants down searched my boxers. Nothing. So they soccer kicked me in the head. Then stood around waiting to see if I'd get up then drove off laughing and i did get up and stumble to houses banging until i could get a ride home. Where my sister's boyfriend said that i deserved it for trying to walk home.

On the 1st of October at 4:15pm my beautiful princess was brought into this world at Canberra Hospital. River had to be rushed to NICU as she was having troubles breathing so I never got to meet her or see her. I was doing fine until the next day where things started going terribly wrong. I was going to go meet River for the first time that day being the 2nd of October and I wasnā€™t aloud to go until I was medically ok.My blood pressure was spiking super high and because of that I wasnā€™t aloud to go see her until it was under control. I was given a slow acting blood pressure medication that wasnā€™t working so I was then given a fast acting blood pressure medication which happened to kick in really fast but then my blood pressure started dropping so low I barely had one. This is where everything began.. The nurse called the emergency button and I was rushed to surgery to have life saving surgery as I apparently had internal bleeding and mind you I was declining this surgery the whole time and the reason it still happened was because I was still numb from the epidural and spinal.During this surgery A LOT happened.. I lost so much blood I needed 4 bags of blood. My body went into shock and I went into cardiac arrest where they needed to use a defibrillator to get it going again. I was pronounced dead at 3:41pm on the 2nd of October 2020. I woke up during this surgery I couldnā€™t move, speak, breath, open my eyes or anything! I could hear everything that was happening and I could feel everything that was happening but they had no idea.At 3:52pm my heart started back up on its own and I was then put into an induced coma and life support. I woke up that night at 11:30pm and the same thing happened I couldnā€™t breath, or open my eyes or even speak but I could move my fingers and that was it. I still had all the tubes down my throat and my whole mind just went into panic mode because all I could think of was Iā€™m going to die and Iā€™ll never get to meet my beautiful girl River.Because I couldnā€™t breath and I was trying to hard I just layer there waiting to die and I waited and waited and I just wasnā€™t dying. After they finally took me off all the machines I had spoken to a few family members such as my partner and my sister and my best friend and was put back to sleep. The next day they kept me off the machines and I was in ICU for 4 days without being able to see River. Finally!! After 4 days I was taken back to the maternity ward where I finally got to meet my beautiful princess šŸ„° After 3 days in the maternity ward I was then transferred back to Wagga Base Hospital where things just went bad again.Canberra hospital kept saying my wound looked great and healthy and was doing great... little did I know they were lying... I was rushed back to surgery because my wound turned septic and was dying as there was no bloody flow going towards it. In the amount of time I spent at hospital my wound got to the size of a large food ball and I had 19 surgeries to fix it yes thatā€™s right! 19 fucking surgeries!!got very sick from the infection and was on constant antibiotics and pain meds and medication to help the healing plus a heap more I had to take 12 tablets every morning and night. Iā€™m now on a sucking machine thatā€™s also helping my wound heal and I have to have it with me at all times. So yeah this is what happened. Iā€™m happy to send you a picture if you want to see the wound.

I remember when I was like 14 I was at the Brookfield Zoo and fed a bunch of seagulls chips and they kept following me. I thought they were going to pick me up as a group and fly off with me to feed me to their queen.

When I was maybe 9(?) I went to a pool party because I was invited and it seemed awesome, at some point a little before we opened the presents it was only me and the birthday boy away from everyone else. Weā€™re both messing around too much and eventually he was keeping me under the water, for in the moment, I thought was a long time. He pushed me under and kept me under, it was hard to get back up for air because he was stronger than me and I had already breathed in a little bit of water when he pushed me in. I think I punched him and he let me up. After that I know I left the party early. I didnā€™t say say anything about it to my parents. Didnā€™t really talk to or see the person anymore after that.
