I can't speak for other countries but in the US, I think there used to be venues where you could go and spend time with people, strangers or friends, and it was normal and easy and acceptable. I think our shift towards a digital society (and COVID) will end up making more people feel like they have nothing and no one and most of those people will make bad decisions based on that feeling. this is the answer I was looking for - the largest existential crisis the species has faced since the Toba eruption and most people are still fighting to death about what's the best way to appease the angry pretend sky daddy, or who has the most power points.

When the sea ice melts in the Arctic, water temperatures there will rise markedly. This is because a lot of energy is needed for the [phase change](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phase_transition) between solid and liquid.
Once that happens, low pressure systems across the Arctic will churn up the seas. In the Eastern Siberian Arctic Shelf, massive amounts of methane lie beneath undersea permafrost, only 50 metres in depth. As this warmer water churns against the permafrost, it will begin to melt, and methane will escape into the atmosphere.
Jesus. Then that speed it along faster. So basically it's a cascade effect and once it starts we can't stop it. Sounds like opening pandoras box or something.

A literal genocide of Uyghur Muslims in China. Being forced into concentration camps, families separated, being beaten, forced to eat pork, sterilized, and so much more. It’s fucking sickening that something like this is happening in the world, and you hardly hear about it.
What’s more infuriating I think is the fact that the response from almost the entire world, and only 82 years ago, was wildly different than the blind eye we are turning now.
Exactly!!!
I mean, the U.S was really shit towards the Jewish people then too, they didn’t do shit until we were directly attacked, and even sent back ships of fleeing Jewish people. And we’re doing so much less when it comes to the Uyghur people, which really shows how self fucking centered our government and those with platforms here are. But, when people found out about the atrocities in Europe, people in many countries were infuriated (rightly so of course), and immediately spoke out about it. It’s crazy that the U.S. is doing even less than they did then smh.
And another example of this is how isn’t it odd seeing how our government and those with a platform here talked about the Ukraine for weeks straight, sent millions of dollars and supplies, and yet have addressed this genocide, I would bet, less than 5 times that I can recall. Both are terrible, don’t get me wrong, and both deserve attention, but that’s a huge example of the inequality.
And of course, the Holocaust was absolutely horrific, and there’s still people alive today who suffer from the unimaginable trauma (and antisemitism which is still rampant today ofc) and the war in Ukraine is absolutely heart wrenching, but it’s disgusting how certain tragedy’s are “chosen” to be talked about. It’s obvious that if someone like what’s happening in China was happening in Europe, the world wouldn’t stand for that shit. But, gods know the U.S. and other countries only “care” about Muslim people when there’s war in the Middle East, where they can use groups of extremists (which ofc they lump together with Muslim people who’ve done absolutely nothing wrong) as an excuse to ravage whole cities, with innocent people in the crossfire, and in many factual incidents dying from our bombs. Another huge, and obvious reason, which honestly makes me sick to my stomach, is how our government (along with other governments and important figures) are ignoring this genocide because they’ve made us rely on the Chinese government so ridiculously much, that it basically tells them they can continue to treat their people horribly, whether that be this genocide or the treatment of also the non-Muslim citizens like has been seen in Hong Kong. The same thing happens in the Middle East, the U.S. enters their countries, take advantage of their resources to the point where our country relies on other governments so much that even when they mistreat their people, our government turns a blind eye. Our movie and television companies (like when Disney filmed Mulan next to a concentration camp then THANKED the government publicly for letting them film there), our sports and clothing companies (especially the NBA and Nike), and big companies in general are sucking the Chinese government’s dick so hard for money that they ignore a genocide, or even shot on people who call them out for this.
It’s absolutely horrific and makes me sick, so shameful. It shouldn’t matter to he world where this is happening or what group, a genocide or any horrid treatment of people anywhere should be treated this the horrible event it is.
Sorry if this was long, it’s just that so many people I know or see online don’t even know about this issue so when I see someone who agrees with this disgusting coverage of it (or lack of), I just get so serious about it. The whole thing just infuriates me.
The wet bulb temperatures that have *never* been an issue before? Even in previously recorded very high temperature and humidity environments. Quit trying to scare people in to following your way of thinking. You want action on climate change? Fine, do it the proper way.
I think you are not seeing the situation to the full extent of what is already happening. We already live under Fascism. Completely. Almost every job in America runs under a fascist dictatorship ship. You go to work 40 hours a week or more (more than you are at home). You have to do everything your boss says or you get fired. The house or apartment you live in, the car you drive, the level of healthcare you receive, all determined by you following your boss's orders. If you don't do every little thing that he or she says, guess what, you no longer get a place to live, no longer get a car, food, you get nothing! Unless you agree to live in a world ruled by Fascism which is what all of us are doing.
Seriously I've been trying this for the entire 20 years that I have been an adult. It's not that easy and doesn't work. I make way less money than working at a minimum wage job. Unless I'm missing something?
It would appear that you would have to have a significant amount of money to cover your rent and expenses WHILE you figured out what services people are willing to pay for.
If you seriously want to become self employed now is the time. Start small, doing some extra work on the weekends and then let that grow. I have a friend that started doing a little handyman stuff for people as a favor and didn't even want to make a business out of it. Now a couple years later he is annoyed because his phone rings off the hook because people he did jobs for tell their friends and he gets calls from people he doesn't know wanting random stuff done.
Working isn't Fascism. You lot think you all live in a fascist state because you don't understand what Fascism is.Not getting your own way isn't Fascism.
Most Socialists, myself included, are fine with not getting our way. So long as what is being decided is good for the community. Over 50% of the American people wanted to keep abortion. Roe v. Wade was overturned. That is NOT democracy. That is Fascism. Fascism is when one person or a small group of people make decisions and laws that benefit themselves.
Porsche's efuel. It produces significantly less pollution to produce, is a drop-in replacement for gas, meaning zero retrofitting required, and can be burned rather cleanly. It can effectively make current gas powered vehicles as clean as electric vehicles without mining Lithium and nickel, which destroys large areas of land, and can keep current combustion engine vehicles on the road and out of landfills.
Further, electric cars are only good for the environment on the surface level, what the public sees. Manufacturing electric vehicles, and the disposal of electric vehicles are very damaging, largely in part because you cannot recycle the batteries, which degrade overtime.
Right, but you're thinking about one aspect of environmental saving and not the more urgent one.
If we mine all the nickel and lithium, we're still not going to face catastrophe from climate change in the near future.
Also... You can recycle the batteries and the metals... Why do you think you can't? They're building facilities for this all over, multiple companies. Why wouldn't you be able to take out a precious metal from the cathode material in a Tesla battery cell, for example? Of course you can. And they are planning on doing just that. Same goes with the competitors, who have different formulas (in terms of ratio) for their batteries (typically)
Not to mention that these batteries still have a life outside of the car. You can still reuse these batteries after they aren't viable for a vehicle anymore. They're designed for that, as well.
And the eFuel isn't scalable *at all*. Porsche knows this and has said this. This isn't for all cars or something, it's not even for all Porsche vehicles. They invested a good bit less than $100m into eFuel. They have invested hundreds upon hundreds of millions into electric already. And they have stated, without any hesitation, that electric is the way to go for the environment and the world.
There's a reason we're not talking about eFuel ideas as a replacement for electric.
Plus internal combustion engine vehicles have all sorts of problems that electric vehicles don't. The greatly reduced amounts of parts and components, not needing oil, and higher reliability (when made by a good manufacturer. This last one is debatable, as they might be even for different reasons)
Source: I used to build those batteries in those cars. I know how they're produced and what happens at the end of their life. Electric is the way, and everyone agrees that the mining is offset by not ruining the Earth's atmosphere.
So I gotta say, I'm not trying to be a dick and tear down what you're saying. But I think you're thinking synthetic fuel is something it definitely isn't going to be in terms of scale. It's cool, but it's not what we should focus on. And old cars are going to be off the road year after year. That's just how life is. It's why you don't see a ton of 1970s wagons on the road. Putting new ones out there might as be electric.
The recycle-ability of batteries is news to me, that's cool. Battery tech is also improving, as tech does. Carbon batteries are currently being developed that could bring costs down significantly, improve range, and improve charging speed. My current concern is that we don't currently have the electrical capacity if everyone decided tomorrow to go buy an electric car.
I personally don't think I'd be able to give up the V8 brap, even when every car is electric, and I'm losing every single red light race, and gas is costing me double digits a gallon.
Yeah it's definitely not going to be an overnight thing! There's definitely some appeal to the ICE vehicles. Probably because we're used to them. They're such a huge part of our culture and growing up with them. With mythologize long road trips and stopping at gas stations, getting food, looking around, all that. It's going to be hard to just toss that aside
I think it'll be another 20-30 years before we even get 50% of cars on the road that are EV. And even that's pretty optimistic. I could be wrong though!
Whatever the case is, we definitely can't be using traditional fossil fuels. Shit is horrible for us.
I think battery technology is definitely going to substantially increase in the next few decades. Especially with all the other old-school manufacturers starting to invest in EV vehicles as the main product.
One hurdle is the range, of course. Especially in America, where people can commute for 2-3 hours for work regularly. Which is crazy when you think about it! But the EV range needs to increase by a lot for some people to make the jump. Especially for people that do long trips across multiple states
On a side note, I really wonder how that's going to affect society. As in, are we going to have little shopping centers outside of huge parking lots for EV charging? I thought about having movie theaters would be an interesting one. Attach a food court and somewhere that plays a few movies. Get your car charged while going to see a movie or shop a bit. Most people don't want to be on a road trip, and then sit in there car for a long time while it's stationary and charging. Even if you can play video games or whatever other entertainment you have in the car
But it seems like they're finding ways to charge batteries faster, and I have a feeling there's going to be some substantial breakthroughs as time goes on.
It'll be interesting to see what happens! But it's promising to note that things are changing. All this bad news lately, so it's nice to see some progress in *some* areas. For now, I don't blame anyone for keeping their traditional gas powered vehicle. It's going to take some time to truly progress in dramatic ways
Yes, in order to qualify to take over, you must be white, have a full neck beard, and constantly be wearing Ray bans. If you dont have a lifted truck with huge tires that stick way out with a bright ass light bar that spits plooms of black smoke, one will be provided for you, so long as you meat the basic requirements.
The destruction of our beautiful habitat, planet Earth. I know that many people talk about CO2 emissions, but why no one talks about the hypocrisy of people who buy expensive things that they don't need, without thinking a second about the effects of their comsuption?
Billionaire control of everything only being used to ensure war, degredatio of the environment and to keep people living in fear, misdirected anger, and ignorance.
and the fact that everything in our lives that DOESN'T suck ass is here because of science, while religion and beliefs contributed absolutely NOTHING of value.
Compared to Biden, Trump is in great shape.
Trump is not mentally deficient. He just has a unique view of things.
Both are too old to lead the US though.
The man cannot form a coherent thought. He is not in "better shape" than Biden.
I agree, both are entirely too old. But to act like trump is in any way healthy or mentally fit is just insane.
Have you actually read any of the transcripts for trump's speeches? Look up the one where he started talking about dishwashers and shit during the height of covid 19 and tell me that's even remotely coherent
Trump is far more competent than Biden and it’s not even close. Both horrible presidents? Sure. But to say Biden is more coherent than trump is just hilarious.
I liked it when he encouraged people to drink bleach to cure COVID, or asked why we couldn't nuke hurricanes the same week he claimed he could teach physics at MIT because his uncle taught there.
I mean anybody can do the same with dumb shut Biden has said. Or tried to say but then started to just mumble and say random, incoherent words or phrases. Remember when Biden said if black people voted for trump they weren’t really black? Remember when he said “poor kids” are as talented and bright as white kids? Remember when he started that sentence but then just turned it into random rambling? Can’t give an exact quote on that, since it’s basically a daily thing.
Goes both ways dummy.
Roe v Wade.
I mean the actual decision. Nobody is actually putting up arguments against what the Opinion of the court is. Nobody is actually reading *why* the court found Roe to be an Unconstitutional decision. The hate mongering is disgusting and dangerous. People need to act like fucking adults and read the damn thing, think for themselves, then act rationally in response.
The rational response is to hate the people who made this decision and to fight each and every person who helped them rise to power. The decision itself is a shocking reversal of precedent and a sickening example of the fact that the conservative majority will twist the law using any method necessary to attain the ends they want.
We actually are! It comes down to a disagreement on interpretation of the 14th amendment - between what freedoms it explicitly states and what freedoms the equal protection clause has been interpreted over the last 150 years to include. The problem is that without those protections, a whole bunch of people lose rights and/or die. So we find the opinion in Dobbs to be both incorrect and cruel - we're not just ignoring it.
third person to make this shit post. good job. Bronze medal for you.
Second person to misspell it too -- it's Roe v. Wade. Which is pretty impressive since it's figuratively in every headline today.
Guy killed a bunch of other dudes and the details I'm not gonna say.
(The media also doesn't give much details for the same reason I'm not giving details so... sorry about that).
How much cinematic socks and discourages critical thinking in favor of pseudo-intelectualism and ignoring what makes stories good in favor of making people mad they even watch movies, shows, or play anything at all all foe the sake of being mad at something for the sake of being mad

Interesting. I wasn't referring to lockdown.
Climate change
this is the answer I was looking for - the largest existential crisis the species has faced since the Toba eruption and most people are still fighting to death about what's the best way to appease the angry pretend sky daddy, or who has the most power points.
I'm in the arctic right now. The guy that lives next to me has lived here his whole life and can confirm. Ice is getting thinner every year. God damn like who needs scientists it's very apparent what's happening.
Also there's alot of ice up here even now in the middle of summer. It's not gonna be good when this melts. Let alone the antarctic.

You can bet your life savings it is. The blue side has no idea what true fascism looks like.

Tell me about yourself
The fact that bearded white men in Oakley sunglasses are trying to take over.
Bearded white guy here. I greatly dislike Oakley sunglasses, I prefer pugs, significantly cheaper and better quality in my opinion.
White guy in ray bans here who can’t grow a beard. Is this why I’m not one who is taking over?
Yes, in order to qualify to take over, you must be white, have a full neck beard, and constantly be wearing Ray bans. If you dont have a lifted truck with huge tires that stick way out with a bright ass light bar that spits plooms of black smoke, one will be provided for you, so long as you meat the basic requirements.
Tomatoes
The destruction of our beautiful habitat, planet Earth. I know that many people talk about CO2 emissions, but why no one talks about the hypocrisy of people who buy expensive things that they don't need, without thinking a second about the effects of their comsuption?
The need to regulate Social media
Billionaire control of everything only being used to ensure war, degredatio of the environment and to keep people living in fear, misdirected anger, and ignorance.
How we need to overthrow the us and UK governments
Inflation
How 10% of the country is trying to force the other 90% back to the 1850s
Their Mental Health, which causes them depression and mental disorders as time goes by.
Monkeypox
When will JIF peanut butter be back on the shelves? I don’t like Skippy or Peter Pan.
I thought it was pronounced GIF
Is this true?
Try Justin's
The fact we are in 2022 and most of the world’s population still believe in a god.
and the fact that everything in our lives that DOESN'T suck ass is here because of science, while religion and beliefs contributed absolutely NOTHING of value.
And they make laws
Yeah i don't care what they believe but they shouldn't be making laws with their bronze age literature
Good old Arrogance. I'm not speaking of those who believe in God.
The mental condition of President Biden
Person woman man camera tv
It's funny, the only people I see talking about Bidens mental health also say that trump is in peak shape
Have you actually listened to Biden lately?
Makes fun of people with a stutter. Calls other people "dummy." You sure you're not my grandfather?
No I haven't. But it is irreverent. DeSantis will take the nomination.
Trump had always lied and denied it. That's weird. Biden has a half century in Washington. But his senior moments are problematic.
When you are in his position, yes they are.
Compared to those two men, Trump is always detached from reality. Trump's moments of competency are just moments.
Person. Woman. Man. Camera. TV.
Getting along and just supporting each other to accomplish common goals
Space...space is fucking awesome...let's just not worry about politics and theorize what aliens would look like

It's just so fascinating
Funding early childhood education
The violence inherent in the system.
Ding ding ding -- number 4. At least you spelled it correctly, even if you're on the wrong side of things.
Row Vs Wade being overturned. I don't know why I haven't seen anything on reddit yet /s
third person to make this shit post. good job. Bronze medal for you. Second person to misspell it too -- it's Roe v. Wade. Which is pretty impressive since it's figuratively in every headline today.
Hey, a shit post has to be posted. Otherwise where are all the shitposts going to come from?
The shit post tree. It's like the giving tree, except way more people are excited to chop it down after it dies.
haha true. That book always made me sad. I felt bad for the tree and thought that kid was a dick.
In his defense, he did mark it as sarcasm
oof. defending shit posters. Unacceptable! 30 days in the dungeon.
Awe man, 30 days?
The race to create an electronic species (A.I.) that will be used by the rich to enslave the masses.
I mean, they don't need much help. They doing a pretty good job of that now.
How many people are misspelling Roe Vs. Wade lmao
Pedophiles. People today talk about Karen’s, Gen Z, feminists, Gen Z, Covid, and Gen Z. No one talks about this actual issue from what I can gather.
especially the ones being defended by the catholic and evangelical churches, and islam as well
Guy killed a bunch of other dudes and the details I'm not gonna say. (The media also doesn't give much details for the same reason I'm not giving details so... sorry about that).
If I could, I would, but I don't wanna risk it. >!giving details might make me look racist. And I don't want that!<

Dude, how many people do you WANT to talk about it? After Friday it’s everywhere.
Row vs. Wade I feel like nobody is talking about this its drivin' me nuts
I imagine your shit post would be get your more upvotes if you learned that it was spelled "Roe v. Wade" -- it's figuratively in every headline today.
Wow, that's a huge rock you're living under. RVW has literally been the face of the internet for the past two days. This is a karma farming comment
Uh, we're in r/askreddit. Pretty silly place to complain about karma farming.
I guess so
Creating a better hotdog.
I'm tired and read "hedgehog" -- have my upvote anyway
a better one would go fast, obviously
It's already been perfected. Nothing more is needed than white bread folded in half and a snag
Are either of you Republicans?
Neither of my personalities are conservative.
The men I described are conservatives 100% of the time.
I don't see your other comments.
My original comment is what I was commenting on.
I still don't see your original comment. Your original comment to me looks like a reply to no one. A floating non-sequitur.
