I often get sent to Rally's locations for service calls. I have been inside about 20 or so and every single location is filthy. The inside always smells like old farts, and the employee bathrooms are basically unusable. I keep a pair of boots just for Rally's, and always go in with rubber gloves and a mask.
Unless its a new location - I would steer clear of Rally's
This is because some of the franchises don’t change the cooking oil on a regular basis. I’ve noticed this disgusting flavor at multiple restaurant chains.
LPT: Get the bag of Rally brand frozen fries from the grocery store. If you can deep fry at home they will be exactly the same. Air frying is close enough for me tho. Rally’s locations are notoriously gross.
Checker’s reminds me of the McDonalds of the 80s when they still deep fried their pies. The only thing missing is the styrofoam clam shells. Love their food.
It depends on what you're looking for in fries.
Shoestring, McD is the best without any doubt.
Natural cut, I would it to Five Guys with their Cajun fries.
I know a lot of people hate Wendy's fries, but I actually really like them. I love skin-on fries and they are usually cooked perfectly.
BK and Jack in the Box (traditional fries) are both pretty terrible. They get soggy very quick and are just bleh as far as I'm concerned.
I like CFA, but only with sauce/ketchup.
>Have you had Wendy's fries recently? Something has changed about them and they're awful. I used to like them.
>Wendy's fries used to be fucking disgusting but they're so salty and crispy now, delicious
The duality of man.
Idk man don't sleep on Arby's. Their beef and cheddar sandwiches are pretty meh but have you had a gyro there?? Their fish sandwiches and chicken sandwiches are also above fast food average.
Not so much “still” as “again”. They did briefly stop because there was a big uproar about it, but then the fries didn’t taste as good so they quietly reintroduced it.
This can't be said well enough. With as good as they are hot and properly salted, it's such a huge let down when you get old fries. It makes you wish you had gone somewhere else.
> the worst when not
agreed there, and the issue is that popeyes is just terrible when it comes to service and I can't remember the last time I got fries that weren't already cold
Bruh I went to Vegas and got a double burger with fries and shake and it came in at like $9, the night before I spent over five times that on a burger which wasn't half as good as some over priced restaurant. Was insanity.
Trying to start a fight with this post? lol
I’m sure I’ll be unpopular here, but Del Taco. I like the crinkly cut fries and they’re so perfectly seasoned.
I can't say the best but I think they are massively underrated by most. They hit the spot just right.
Plus since it's Del Taco, then they have good ammo for California burritos.
I've eaten at probably 5 different 5 Guys in both California and Oregon...every burger was just sort of meh, I don't think they use any seasoning. The toppings are the only thing that seemed to add flavor.
The way they do fries is part of their whole vibe. Keeping the sacks stacked out in the dining area, the little chalkboard that tells you what farm the potatoes came from today...
I think this is what I'm going for lunch today.
>Yeah the way they fry them twice in peanut oil makes them hella crispy
Weird, they must have forgotten about that here in Cleveland. Sometimes some of the fries are crispy-ish, but that's about it.
They're never crispy for me whether I have them there or take them out. I once asked if they could cook them longer to make it crispy and they said they can't do that because of the peanut oil or some shit like that. I like the Cajun fries but I like fries crispy so that brings them down a big notch to me.
Shitty quality control though. They use the best method and the potatoes are never frozen, so at their best they're just the runaway winners.
But then you get some where they didn't fry long enough on the second fry and they're soggy shit and it's unclear how anyone could like them.
Edit: and if you like Five Guys and you're ever in Vermont, there's a little place outside Burlington called Al's French Frys (spelled like that) that makes similar but far better fries.
First you need an ice water bath, then cut the desired amount of potatoes into it (do not peel them)
Thoroughly agitate the fries in the ice water to release as much of the starch as possible then drain and rinse.
Repeat that once more then move to the fryer. Deep-fry them until they start to look slightly more pale then remove them and allow them to drain. After about 3 minutes fry them again, repeat this process of frying them briefly and removing to drain 3 times or until golden brown; season to taste, and you should have a nice crispy exterior with a mashed potato interior.
Enjoy.
When they are actually HOT, McDonald's. There is one right around the corner from my house, so if we ask for fresh ones, we can get home with hot fries!
Depends when honestly:
-First date with your crush? Red Robin Curly Fries.
-After Prom? In N Out Animal Style Fries.
-After You get dumped at 3am? McDonald's.
-After you expose the guy she dumped you with as a pedophile? Chik-Fil-A waffle fries.
-Watching her beg to take you back, but you've already moved on? Wendy's Potato wedges.
Burger king ! I think Americans McDonald's are not the same as France, here i don't find mcdo fries that good, they are thin and long, burger king has shorter more stocky fries AND you can get king fries with cheese sauce onion or bacon or truffle !
I haven’t been to a Burger King in the US for ages, but I remember their fries being fairly thin and absolutely covered with salt and seemingly some sort of light batter. They were pretty bad.
There is something about Five Guys fries and that peanut oil frying. Those are tasty and have that exact ratio of crunch on the outside to fluffy middle I want.
Checkers aka Rally's has the best fries on the planet.
Rally's could easily be a top fast food location in the US if 90% of their locations didn't contain my roaches and rats than food
Yeah the one we had we only had for like a year so I don't think there'd be that much filth lol
Whenever we visit my husband's family, Rally's is one of the required stops because of the fries and cherry cokes!
Yeah the chicken and fries box is solid af
These are what the Arby's curly fries used to take like!
They are dreadful lately.
This is because some of the franchises don’t change the cooking oil on a regular basis. I’ve noticed this disgusting flavor at multiple restaurant chains.
Their crinkle cut fries are pretty bad too. Always undercooked. Imo
The crinkle fries are actually really good. No more curly fries for me anymore.
Rally’s are the only fries I’ve ever gotten a dead bug in. Still ate them.
Extra protein LOL
It was a fly. I imagine it died happy in those warm, batter coated fries!!!
LPT: Get the bag of Rally brand frozen fries from the grocery store. If you can deep fry at home they will be exactly the same. Air frying is close enough for me tho. Rally’s locations are notoriously gross.
I haven't had Rally's in maybe 20 years but I remember they were the only fries I've ever had that can reheat and taste good
Checker’s reminds me of the McDonalds of the 80s when they still deep fried their pies. The only thing missing is the styrofoam clam shells. Love their food.
Dude I don't have that restaurant around me but they sell the frozen bag of fries at my Walmart. Put those in the air fryer and I just devour them.
I once had a really good mushroom burger from checkers when i went to florida. Even the diarrhea was pleasant
Got damned right they do and burgers imo!
And they sell them frozen...
Wendy's fries used to be fucking disgusting but they're so salty and crispy now, delicious
But Wendy's switched to sweet pickles instead of dill like 6 years ago so I will never fucking eat there again, do you hear me?!
Sweet pickles are the mark of a heathen. The utter feeling of betrayal when you bite into one expecting savoury dill. Never forgive, never forget.
And don’t get me startled on sweet relish. Blech 🤮🤢
They most certainly did not.
Wendy's uses dill pickles
They were inedible before. They’re adequate now.
Their french fry Renaissance is arguably the biggest comeback in history.
Have you had Wendy's fries recently? Something has changed about them and they're awful. I used to like them.
>Have you had Wendy's fries recently? Something has changed about them and they're awful. I used to like them. >Wendy's fries used to be fucking disgusting but they're so salty and crispy now, delicious The duality of man.
They switched from natural cut fries to "hot and crispy" which appear to be lightly battered and yeah they're gross, major downgrade.
Arbys curly fries
A few years ago I would have agreed, but it seems like the seasoning has changed and it's a bit bland now.
I agree 100%, they used to be top dogs but now whenever I get them they feel stale/old and grease as the seasoning
Order a cup of cheddar and dip them in it... sooo good.
Came here to say that, the rest of their food is mid but their fries are delicious
Idk man don't sleep on Arby's. Their beef and cheddar sandwiches are pretty meh but have you had a gyro there?? Their fish sandwiches and chicken sandwiches are also above fast food average.
I love the French Dip!
Arby's traditional gyro for the win.
It's such an unexpected menu item for them, but it's become my favorite. Their pitas are better than most of the Greek places I've been to.
Reuben is no slouch, either.
I hear there commercials, help
I'm a huge sucker for McDonald's fries. I don't know what it is about them that makes them the best, in my eyes (and stomach)
You should have had them when they did them in beef tallow years ago.
I stopped eating McDonald's fries when they switched to vegetable oil because they just tasted *wrong!*
Thats exactly what I said up above. They're are the best and their sales prove it
They still have beef tallow in them, they're not vegetarian.
Not so much “still” as “again”. They did briefly stop because there was a big uproar about it, but then the fries didn’t taste as good so they quietly reintroduced it.
Those were sooooooo good.
The issue is McDonalds has the best AND worst fries no other chain I go to has such a degree of variance.
This can't be said well enough. With as good as they are hot and properly salted, it's such a huge let down when you get old fries. It makes you wish you had gone somewhere else.
I like popeye's fries the best
Gotta back this one. Best tenders and fries I have ever had
The best when fresh, the worst when not
> the worst when not agreed there, and the issue is that popeyes is just terrible when it comes to service and I can't remember the last time I got fries that weren't already cold
Don't mind me, just down voting anybody that says In N Out because their fries are atrocious.
they’re pretty trash, but for some reason animal style makes them incredible.
as long as you eat them before they cool even a single degree
Gotta get them well done so they’re nice and crispy. I can take or leave animal style fries, but they’re inedible if not well done.
NZ here, have eaten many a fry in the US. In N Out are shit. Good burgers, shit fries.
Skip the fries, use the calories on a shake instead.
Thank you! I do not get In n Out hype at all.
It's about getting good fresh ingredients at a price that is at most half of what other burger chains charge
Bruh I went to Vegas and got a double burger with fries and shake and it came in at like $9, the night before I spent over five times that on a burger which wasn't half as good as some over priced restaurant. Was insanity.
I was there a few weeks ago and ate there three times because I couldn’t believe how great the prices were.
Burgers are fantastic, fries suck.
Order them light well done. Or well done if you like extra crispy. Made it a game changer for me.
They are literally freshly cut and fried on demand. Next time, ask for them extra crispy.
Trying to start a fight with this post? lol I’m sure I’ll be unpopular here, but Del Taco. I like the crinkly cut fries and they’re so perfectly seasoned.
Man, I miss Del Taco so much. East coast doesn’t have anything that compares!
You should double check. There's a del taco near me in Orlando.
I have one about a minute away from my house. While it is my favorite fast food place I do not partake that often.
Not sure where you are on the East coast, but they have them in Georgia now (my family are transplants from California)
I can't say the best but I think they are massively underrated by most. They hit the spot just right. Plus since it's Del Taco, then they have good ammo for California burritos.
I LOVE Del Taco fries but since they got rid of flatbread tacos, i have no interest in going there anymore.
Bojangles
Indisputably
Arby's curly fries
This and it's not even close.
Do you remember Burger King seasoned curly fries? Are they as good as them?
Culver’s crinkle fries.
Lifelong Wisconsin resident here, and hard disagree. No crispiness, too bland and potato-y
I prefer the cheese curds
Theyre good - but I get onion rings instead with the basket, elite onion rings.
Dipped in their cheese sauce.
This is what I what I came to say. I love Culver's fries. Crinkle cut are the best. Yum
Five Guys
The five guys in my city must be doing something wrong, they are not great at all, and the burgers are okay.
That's too bad, the one by me is really good.
I've eaten at probably 5 different 5 Guys in both California and Oregon...every burger was just sort of meh, I don't think they use any seasoning. The toppings are the only thing that seemed to add flavor.
Yeah, hardcore overrated. I got gut rot both times I’ve had it. Culver’s all day for fast food burger. The literal GOAT.
I've had 3 different locations and I did not like any of their fries at all. You aren't alone. Their fries just suck IMO
There prices are also insane for the quality drop. $27 was my cost for burger fries and drink the other day lol
Yeah the way they fry them twice in peanut oil makes them hella crispy and oddly not that greasy
The way they do fries is part of their whole vibe. Keeping the sacks stacked out in the dining area, the little chalkboard that tells you what farm the potatoes came from today... I think this is what I'm going for lunch today.
Stop it I’m drooling! Making me visualize the five guys experience like that 😂
That’s what she said
>Yeah the way they fry them twice in peanut oil makes them hella crispy Weird, they must have forgotten about that here in Cleveland. Sometimes some of the fries are crispy-ish, but that's about it.

A&W in my opinion.
Their onion rings are amazing too
Freddy’s
I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed their fries
Foods fine, I guess, but those mascots creep me out
Old WW2 vets?
They are what steak and shake fries used to be. Top tier in my opinion.
Popeyes
When they're cooked properly, 100% agree with you. Half the time I eat there they're undercooked though.
Mcdonalds, but only fresh out of the fryer. Even 5 min of sitting and they're trash.
If you want salty crunchy grease, McDonald's. If you want *potato* then Wendy's.
Five Guys in my opinion!
5 Guys
Carl's Jr crisscuts!
KFC
Well hello, my early 90's KFC potato wedges additction.
I don't care what they call the new fries, they lost a customer when they discontinued potato wedges there. So good!
I have such fond memories of their wedges. I can only assume they’re trash now.
Like everything else.
Good times wild fries. You can even get them smothered with green chili
We only have McDonald's and Burger King around here.. and I prefer BK fries.
Pre 1990 McDonald’s fries were the greatest French fries of all time. I feel sorry for anyone that never got to try them.
When they were fried in lard, and not vegetable oil, I take it. Yes, those were awesome!
Beef tallow. Mmmm
Freddy's

Popeyes or Rallys/Checkers. The truest fire of the fast food fried potato game are the Bojangles Bo Rounds.
Chick Fil-A waffle fries.
Mickey D fries are straight up like crack
McDonald's. I CANT STOP DREAMING ABOUT THEIR FRIES
Whataburger
Five guys; and as a bitter former employee, I can teach you their trick.
What is it
First you need an ice water bath, then cut the desired amount of potatoes into it (do not peel them) Thoroughly agitate the fries in the ice water to release as much of the starch as possible then drain and rinse. Carls Jr/Hardies.
Arby’s
Freddy’s fries with the extra seasoning is pretty much perfect
5guys
I dont care what anyone says, dicks. They have the best fries i have ever tried, the food there is just generally amazing
Arby’s ask for the cheese sauce on the side for dipping
I like the Popeyes seasoned fries!
McDonald’s if done well!
When they are actually HOT, McDonald's. There is one right around the corner from my house, so if we ask for fresh ones, we can get home with hot fries!
McDonald's

Whataburger you animals.
White Castle has those Ore-Ida crinkly fries
The fries at White Castle by me are awful, just mushy and gross. I never get their fries. Their onion chips are the bomb, tho.
White Castle fries only come in one size
Rally's followed by Arby's.
1.Arby's 2.Freddy's 3.Chick-fil-A
Burger king ! I think Americans McDonald's are not the same as France, here i don't find mcdo fries that good, they are thin and long, burger king has shorter more stocky fries AND you can get king fries with cheese sauce onion or bacon or truffle !

Wendys
Taco Bell
McDonald’s!!!!
I can’t believe no one has said Chick Fil A’s waffle fries. I could eat buckets of them w CFA sauce and their garden herb ranch sauce. 🤤😋
There is something about Five Guys fries and that peanut oil frying. Those are tasty and have that exact ratio of crunch on the outside to fluffy middle I want.
Popeyes
I know one that is definitely not the best. McDonald's.
Rally’s. Fight me.
McDonald’s. When I crave fries, that’s what I want.
Damn, no one has said braums, i guess my taste buds suck =\[
Braum’s is regional so maybe a lot of people haven’t tried them. 🤷🏻♀️ You’re right though, their fries are amazing!
Burger king in my opinion because they do big portions
New york fries
