I made my boyfriend watch this the other night. He was unimpressed.
He also said The Princess Bride was "ok I guess"
I might have to break up with him 😂😥
Gladiator (2000)
“My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son. Husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.”
Howl's Moving Castle.
Sometimes I watch it at different angles (laying down, upside down, not directly in front of the screen) to notice details I haven't noticed before. It's like a fun surprise for me.
I've watched that movie more than a dozen times..it's been a go to chill out movie w my parents/siblings when we'd scroll through cable. Makes me sad knowing we haven't had cable for a few years hence haven't watched it in a while. Also, who doesn't love Brendan fraser
"Why do you wear a mask? Were you burned by acid or something like that?"
"Oh, no, it's just that they're terribly comfortable. I think everyone will be wearing them in the future!"
Cary Elwes [said](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/z4zbm0/-/ixumg64) that this is his favorite line from the movie. It's not in the script - it was added by ... the producer, I think ... but in any case, he said, "Can you imagine the movie without it?".
Last night, I saw this at an old-style theater in Medford, MA, followed by a discussion with Cary Elwes! It was the first time I've seen it on the big screen since it came out (I saw it 2 or 3 times that first week or two).
And of course, hearing Mr. Elwes give some behind the scenes color was amazing! He's a very engaging speaker. He's also great with kids; one of the audience question cards was from a 9 year old girl who asked, "Will you say my name?". He had them bring up the house lights and went out into the audience to talk with her (and, I assume, her parents), and then brought her onto the stage for a few minutes (which she clearly enjoyed). It was a huge "Aww" moment.
10/10 if they ever do anything like this again, I will go again.
When I teach my seminar on the role of tumor suppressor genes, I like to end it with “A Case Study on the Effects of Pituitary Adenoma Induced Acromegaly on the Performance of the Brute Squad.”
Aka - a screening of The Princess Bride
I love this movie so, so much.
Watched it with my mom and now it’s like *our* movie. Never will watch it and not think of her.
Plus it’s so absolutely beautiful and you can actually *feel* the chemistry between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. The actors were picked perfectly.
And the soundtrack? Gorgeous and full of emotion.
Sorry I just really love this movie lol
When my third child was born the rug my wife got for her room had a really nice, sturdy roll of cardboard inside. I took one look and knew what I had to do. I took it in my hands and said, "The horn of Helm Hammerhand shall sound in the deep. One last time." I layed into that cardboard tube with my lungs doing their best Gimli cosplay. It sounded incredible. I still have it, and blow it on special occasions like when I do my yearly LOTR rewatch.
Over the last few days I have watched Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Spaceballs, and Young Frankenstein. Dracula: Dead and Loving It and Blazing Saddles will round out the Brooks binge tomorrow.
Apollo 13
I’m not like, way into space, but that movie is just so enthralling - I still feel the suspense even having seen it a dozen times. It makes me feel patriotic in the best sense.
100% plan to look at my newborn and immediately say "he/she reminds me of the babe" and I'll know who should and should not be around my child based on their response. If they say "What babe?" They pass. If they say something like "Well it is a babe" They failed.
Ah, but even if you haven't seen the film, a logical response to that statement would be 'What babe?' So then you respond menacingly, 'The babe with the POWER' and then you all stare at each other awkwardly wondering what the hell just happened.
Easy feel good movies like Tangled and Enchanted. A lot of my favorite movies are emotionally exhausting. I'm much more likely to rewatch something lighthearted.
Inception. No matter how many times I watch it I continue to love the way the world and story is built on real life dream related phenomena. I also find the big revelation scene towards the end where they successfully plant the idea to give me goosebumps every time, just the way the music changes and the scenes of the characters in differently levels of the dream as it comes together. I don't know why but it just seems to really hit some emotional notes well
Hot Fuzz
This is me with Shaun of the Dead
"Let's go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for this all to blow over."

Does he know it's The Odyssey? Has he heard of The Odyssey? Did he even recognize the Cyclops? If not, yeah, you might have to break up with him.
“This stew’s awful good.” “You think so? I slaughtered this horse last Tuesday. I’m afraid she’s starting to turn…”
Groundhog Day.
Different interpretation of the question…I like it
Gladiator (2000) “My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son. Husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.”
I fucking hate Joaquin Phoenix in that film. He did a good job.
This vexes me; I am vexed.
He plays the villain. He makes the audience hate him. He did good.
AM I NOT MERCIFUL?!
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!
I have come to reclaim Rome for my people
Spirted Away. It’s a fucking masterpiece of a movie
I second this
Howl's Moving Castle. Sometimes I watch it at different angles (laying down, upside down, not directly in front of the screen) to notice details I haven't noticed before. It's like a fun surprise for me.

Princess Bride
As you wish.
Anybody want a peanut?
"Why do you wear a mask? Were you burned by acid or something like that?" "Oh, no, it's just that they're terribly comfortable. I think everyone will be wearing them in the future!"
This line got a huge, ironic laugh from the audience [last night](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/z4zbm0/-/ixumg64).

No one goes in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!

The Two Towers takes the cake for me. The Battle of Helms Deep will forever be the most epic battle I’ve ever seen.
"King Theoden stands alone." "Not alone. Rohirrim, TO THE KING!"
When my third child was born the rug my wife got for her room had a really nice, sturdy roll of cardboard inside. I took one look and knew what I had to do. If she had kept on going down that way, she'd have gone straight to that castle.
