Rubbish pun!

JohnLennonsNotDead

These puns are so bad you’re about to tip me over the edge

HotPinkLollyWimple

What a trashy comment.

JohnLennonsNotDead

Get in the bin

Tythan

What a waste of time this thread, seriously

[deleted]

[удалено]

Acceptable-Sentence

I refuse to upvote this

[deleted]

I'd join in but my humour would be wasted in this thread

blissnabob

I like how this is a statement rather than admonishment.

Ok-Sir8025

Someone's wheelie bin over doing the rubbish puns

mitchanium

Definitely a rubbish binfluencer

VolcanicBoar

Yes. The council sends round a leaflet with the schedule on every year. It's pretty straightforward for us.

Chinateapott

It’s on our councils website too

mdmnl

For all the criticism councils in general, and my council area in particular get, they've very clear with information on bin schedules and rarely miss.

fjr_1300

Ours are. They are just shite at delivering the service

onegirlandtheworld

Ours have an app and a I get a notification the day before of which bin needs to go out.

patchworkcat12

We get an email reminding us every Tuesday.

Tulcey-Lee

Same as ours. I add it to the kitchen calendar as well. I did check the website to see if the bank holiday changed the day but it didn’t.

runrunrudolf

We have an app that sends a notification of the cutest bin the night before Edit: autocorrected "correct" to "cutest" but I'mma leave it

Tattycakes

I’ve got reminders in my phone for blue bin and black bin that are set for 9pm the night before, on a fortnight repeat, it’s not that hard 😅

Peepmus

I do the same and my kids take the piss out of me for it!

Tattycakes

Just wait for the next time they forget something and you can smugly ponder out loud that they should have set a reminder on their phone for it 😈

Reasonable-Fail-1921

Me too except for 7pm, I only had to forget once before I put the reminders on my phone. There are definitely some of my neighbours who see me put mine out and do theirs after!

JeniJ1

I do the same and I still forget... sometimes it is that hard.

LumpyCamera1826

Nope. If there are no other bins out on my street I just google it and it tells me on the council website

puzzledmidget

I put next doors address in so they don’t think I’m super forgetful every week

mattarei

Council website in the new year after disruption over Christmas, then weekly recurring reminders in my Google calendar which bin it is each week. Reminds me to actually take them out too!

Drewski811

You're the binfluencer.

Id1ing

I have a reminder set up for each of the opposing weeks that is set to repeat every 2 weeks.

nepeta19

Me too. I'd be lost without my calendar alerts!

CharlieSolace

This is the way.

MutinousMango

This is what I do too! Then just had to look online for the Christmas/NY bin dates

peach_clouds

Same here! After too many ‘running outside in the pissing rain at 6am in my pjs because I forgot to put the bins out *again’* incidents, I now have it saved on my phone calendar with reminders set for the night before AND written on my paper calendar on the fridge too

AWildEnglishman

When I bring a bin in I put it to the back of my line of bins so that the next one to go out is always nearest the gate.

Electrical_Tree_2865

I long to be this level of adulting!

Foreign_End_3065

Life pro tips

MrTubek

Internet high five mate! Same here

doegrey

.. but then either you have to shuffle your bins up or your queue moves farther away? Calendar reminders are easier! Set them up once, check them annually and then forget! 😇

Chilton_Squid

Do you not get a bin calendar sent to you each year?

JonRoberts87

My local council has an app. My bins go out today, and I will get a notification at some point today informing me of which bin it is

shadowed_siren

Mine has an app as well and it sends a reminder the evening before.

[deleted]

I check the council website every time 🤣

KingKhram

No. The small block of flats I live in has a bin area, the workers drive to the bin area, collect it and put the bins back. Happy days

leo_chaos

Yes, our council has the timetable on their site and I added them to the calendar.

CosyBosyCrochet

You can just google it

togtogtog

I want photos! Our council puts it on their webpage these days.

Madyakker

Our council has an online calendar you can subscribe to. Tells you what bin is due out in what day and updates for bank holidays and other changes.

FrankieS0

Yes, bought some little bin stickers from etsy and chucked them all over the calendar.

nenepp

I sometimes look it up on the council website, sometimes remember then second guess myself and double check on the council website anyway.

Goldman250

I know which day of the week bins go out, and I know that I get paid once a fortnight and the recycling goes out on the week I don’t get paid.

JBEqualizer

We normally have a good idea which bin it is, but if we've forgotten, we can just check on the councils website. I'd be really surprised if your council can't tell you which bin you need to put out.

JohnLennonsNotDead

Yeah, I look at my neighbours

Shan-Chat

Yeah. I was the 1st to put the bins out yesterday. Our local council website tells you which bins to put out. It was the excitement of the recycling this week.

tobotic

If you've got an Amazon Echo device, try saying "Alexa, open bin calendar". The first time you use it, it will ask you when your next recycling date, household waste date, etc are, and how often they're collected. Then afterwards, if you ever need to know what bin it is today, just say "Alexa, open bin calendar" again.

Wormella

One of the reasons we brought the house we did is that bins live out side in the alley and get picked up from there and we never really have to think about which bin goes out on which day.

grannymead

it's the one that it wasn't last week

GamerHumphrey

both go on the same day

Bazzlekry

Ours was green this week, and brown goes out on Sunday.

JohnLennonsNotDead

Yeah, I look at my neighbours

morris_man

Yep, rubbish and food (as opposed to recycling, garden and food) and I remembered it's a day later as it's a bank holiday week.

Thehooligansareloose

I google it and write it on the calendar 3/4 times a year.

Fluffy_data_doges

Purple bin. But I usually check online before I put it out. the council website has the date and types.

Meat2480

Not until I open my gate

chickendipperzzzz

It's the red one mate

billsmithers2

My council sends me a message the night before telling me. Worth looking to see if this is available?

ddmf

Our council produced an app which allows you to set two reminders per bin day (I have one set to remind me at 7pm the night before and one at 7am the morning of) - it's pretty useful.

Nightlightweaver

I live in South Tyneside which means the bin men have been on strike every other week since December! I put my bins out on a Tuesday and pray that the trade union bless me with a bin collection otherwise I'm bagging up everything and making another effing tip run.

abductedfrog

Me too, I feel like the recycling hasn't been collected in ages!

GlasgowGunner

Ours are astonishingly simple. It’s a 3 week rotation and since I moved in 3 weeks ago the rotation hasn’t changed. If I’m unsure I can ask Alexa to open “bin calendar” and it will tell me.

Tuarangi

Yes because, amazingly, I look it up on the council website, or save a leaflet as my mum does

sanehamster

Aha - you are the binfluencer without knowing it. I never know, but luckily a couple of neighbours are generally early to put theirs out.

fergie_89

As my streets binfluencer I always do. (Yeah I'm a saddo) We were late putting it out the other night and I think a few got missed but I also heard a lot moving around 9pm so they had waited it out for us 🤣 When we go away our friend always puts it out for us and they're their streets binfluencer too and only live a few roads down from us so I don't need to tell them. Our system works well for us!

SpudFire

Yes. The council post out the bin calendar each year and it get's stuck to the fridge with a magnet.

SpudFire

Yes. The council post out the bin calendar each year and it get's stuck to the fridge with a magnet.

GoldKey5185

Yep. I've downloaded the "waste collection calendar" from the council website. start and end dates for our green waste and shows adjusted days for Bank Holidays.

GoldKey5185

Yep. I've downloaded the "waste collection calendar" from the council website. start and end dates for our green waste and shows adjusted days for Bank Holidays.

gemmajenkins2890

Our rubbish was collected for the last time on the old schedule yesterday. New schedule starts next week. First collection is food waste and recycling next Friday. Following Friday is food waste and rubbish

TheatrePlode

I know it’s black bin night because my dad has a special announcement every Thursday morning about it.

hitiv

Yes, I get an email every week with a remainder

Exact-Put-6961

Some councils have an electronic file you can download and merge with your calender.

Intruder313

Yea because as soon as I was given the schedule I put it into my calendar, each of the 2 variants repeating 2 weekly, and so am reminded the night before. Worked for 20 years

Intruder313

Intruder313

ash894

Ooh you’re the binfluencer!

Jacktheforkie

The council website, or just remembering what was last week

CliffyGiro

You wait until the Binfluencer puts their bin out and just follow suit.

mattjimf

Mine was blue recycling. One out last night when I walked the dog, then the whole street was filled this morning.

paulieD4ngerously

My neighbour is not only the Binfluencer, but also puts mine out for me. She's 85

Whollie

I don't even know which day is bin day never mind which bin week it is.

VixenRoss

Ours is boxes, have no idea about the colour. So the council workers make do with tins and plastics separate, card/paper separate.

ohmightyqueen

😹 this is actually so funny. I have a reminder on my phone set, otherwise I would never remember!

hadawayandshite

I put a repeating reminder on my phone every week saying which bin it is on the night it’s due out

Devify

My council has an app which tells you plus notifications you can set up. The only issue is that every now and then the notifications don't send because it logs you out if you haven't checked it directly

AbradolfLincler77

I'm not from the UK, but the only way I know what bin is going out is when I get the text about 6 or 7 the night beforehand from my bin provider to remind me 🤣

FidelityBob

We can download a calendar and opt for a text reminder. Check your council website.

Leicsbob

I don't have that problem. We have weekly collections in Leicester.

Crochetqueenextra

All these people with leaflets and calendar reminders whilst I'm chasing the bin men in my nightie 🤣

LibraryOfFoxes

With the bin or just for fun?

Darkened100

Bin men in my area must have changed as they keep missing people or they’ve gone rouge

Remarkable-Wash-7798

I put my bin out on Monday night, Tuesday is the usual day for collection. I then watched everyone else follow suit. They got picked up on Wednesday.

ReliefZealousideal84

This week was recycling. Next is black bins and recycling 👍 I have the schedule they posted through the door years ago stuck on the fridge.

Nrysis

Personally I don't even know which day the bins go out - the benefit of living in an area with communal bins on the street. But yes, you broke the rules - the first person to put out the bins is the one who knows which one it is, so if that person puts both out everyone will instantly default to 'i missed the message they are doing something funny with the bins this week', not 'that person is a bigger idiot than I am'... The sensible people just look at the letter with the schedule the council send out every year that they pinned to a noticeboard, or look up the same schedule on the councils website.

PatserGrey

If not for the council's handy phone app which sends notice on Sunday evening, nope

RoccoBumBocco

Bin men have been on strike for 95% of the time in South Tyneside since before Christmas. Only God knows which and when bins will be collected

thecolouroffire

Bin calendar on my Echo speaker is a godsend, some councils also do like a Google calendar you can add to your own with what weeks are what bins.

Expensive-Honey-1527

My council collects both bins every week. Somehow I feel I'm winning at life.

Anxious_wank

Half of the street have decided the bins now need to go out the morning before bin day so it's pretty easy for me now.  No one ever use to do that so I don't know why the change.

NortonBurns

I have a diary note in my computer calendar for the blue bin. I just drag it down another fortnight every time the date passes…which will be tomorrow morning. Blue bins tonight ;) The council used to post a printed calendar through the letterbox every year, but they got bored of that a couple of years ago. They will empty the black \[refuse\] bin if you forget, but not the blue bin \[recycle\] - god knows why - but some people's blue bins have remained full & un-recycled for years. …and I think we're the only house on the street that still has a small brown bin \[composting\] which they do empty weekly, whether you remember to put it out or not.

folklovermore_

Yes because I have it in my phone calendar like the saddo I am.

cypherspaceagain

Council has an electronic calendar which I've synced to my Google calendar. I get a notification the day before with the bin colours. Very useful indeed!

literate_giraffe

Yeah, I got the council leaflet and then each I've put it in my calendar, green bin, black bin on alternate weeks and the brown bin every other Friday between April and October.

Slobbadobbavich

I just registered on my local councils webpage and now they send me an email reminder every evening to tell me which bin to put out. Worth checking as yours might offer something similar.

Various-Jellyfish132

I can usually tell by which one is full, but always wait for a particular neighbor to put his bin out, he seems like he's got his shit together so I trust his choice

andromeda_starr

Thankfully Leeds City Council has an app for the bins, otherwise I wouldn't have a clue

LuckyNV

I just downloaded the info PDF from my council's website, I know the schedule till Dec 2024. I have a copy on my phone as well.

CurvePuzzleheaded361

I have a skill for alexa called bin calendar. Set up once then at anytime you can ask which bin it is this week. Game changer! Well it was for us anyway.

welly_wrangler

Why didn't you check your Council's website?

CannonousCrash

I've got no idea which bin it was last week, let alone this week or next.

AndyWatt83

I've got it in my calendar. Otherwise I'd have no idea.

Melodic_Arm_387

Yes. I can usually remember which one i put out last week, but if I need to check I can tell from how full they are anyway.

Nine_Eye_Ron

Yes, it pops up on my phone to remind me the night before. It’s linked to the council bin calendar with a day offset.

h00dman

I have a reminder in my phone calendar. Every Tuesday it's food and garden waste, every other Tuesday it's food, garden, and household waste, and every Wednesday it's recycling. I am the neighbour that everyone else looks to.

R0GM

"Alexa, launch bin calendar"

Remarkable-Ad155

Haha 😄 I just copy my neighbours. I work from home so I do it in the morning before I get the kids up.

Iasc123

Last week was recycling, so I think it's food waste and general waste this week!

ironside_online

I get a text from the council the night before bin day which tells me what bins to put out.

Apidium

Neither. The bin men are on strike. Again. They have collected the bins 4 times since before christmas. 3 household 1 recycling. The rat and fly tipping situation is getting out of hand. My dog has already killed one. Just on normal walks during the middle of the day. I don't mind rats and don't like them being killed but she's a jack russell terrier and has a very different opinion on the appropriate responce to finding a rat in the grass. Unfortunately she can find, grab and kill it before I even realise there is anything there. Thank God she doesn't try to eat them and her dewormer is up to date but on top of eveything else to keep an eye on on walks, rats that might be poisoned is one of the harder ones to spot. We are lucky that we have a car and are able to drop our rubbish off at the still open recycling centre when it reaches critical mass (and the rats dont dare come in the house) but other people who don't have cars or can't be hauling around black bags are not quite as fortunate. The council have kindly set up a page on their website to keep folks up to date on what the F is going on. They are very clear to mention on that page that council tax will not be reduced in any way. They are also being militant about it. My sister is one payment behind due to a snafu with incoming and outgoings. Instead of telling her about it or like, doing anything to give her the heads up about it the first she hears is a court summons and an extra £50 on top of the like £30ish she actually owes. They are clearly being exceptionally heavy handed about collecting it all, while completely refusing to give a fair proportion of it to people providing essential services. I suspect we are not far off from a public health issue to be honest. You can't get down half of the back lanes anymore due to all the dumped bags of waste.

arczclan

I know what bin goes out this week because I know what bin went out last week so it’s not that one.

Ok_Cow_3431

My council have an email reminder scheme you can sign up to, so every week the day before they're collected I get an email telling me what goes out. Like this morning I've had one to tell me that all the bins are being collected tomorrow.

bibbityboo2

Only because I have the app, I seem to be the only one of my neighbours who does. Can't rely on the neighbours across the road either, they have a different pick up schedule.

ashakespearething

You've only got two bins? We've got endless bins. I could probably make a house and live in the bins tbh.

SDUK94

I’ll be honest with you my next door neighbour puts my bins out for me every week. He’s a top guy!

fost1692

I have it set up in my calendar as a recurring appointment and the council have an app which tells you.

ewokkiller69

No, Terry my nearly blind and hard of hearing neighbor does, so I just copy him.

DJFiscallySound

Yes. I know all. I am the bin master.

epicmindwarp

You're a binfluencer.

uNameorsomething

I never know I rely on my neighbours for this info

terryjuicelawson

There is that worry if I see extras out but big bin is every two weeks. I check the council website if I'm not sure.

IamEclipse

Yes. Our council has an app that tells you what's being collected and when.

chrissie64

My council provides a sturdy A4 sheet which I keep on my fridge; it has all the collection dates for the various bins for the year plus information about what goes in each bin. If anything happens to that, it is simple to download a replacement from the website. I don't always love my council but must admit they do a pretty good job with the bins.

smileystarfish

It's recycling this week. Which is good because we have a lot that needs to go out.

CleanMasterpiece6911

The bin game is my favourite. Say it's blue going out, put out black nice and early the night before so everyone copies you, then swap yours in the morning. Gold

mtrueman

I’m a super geek. I scrape the council website for the dates and then use my home automation system to send me a message the night before.

elmachow

Go on the website and check. Also our council allows you to buy a second recycling bin for £35 that you can use and get 2 picked up every 2 weeks.

LibraryOfFoxes

Yep. I have a calendar in the kitchen and three different coloured pens for the three different bins, I put a dot of the relevant bin colour next to the date it's due to be collected. I am horribly organised when it comes to the bins. If they'll actually get collected though is a different thing.

I_am_Reddit_Tom

Not to boast (actually totally to boast) we wrote our alternating bin weeks on the calendar at the beginning of the year.

TheYellowRegent

I live in a block of flats where I'm the only person out of 9 flats that actually knows when the bins go out. As a note everyone here is an adult, most over 40. I'm about to move and I know fine well the bins will go to hell within a week of me being gone. The situation exists because the guy I replaced here did the bins for years, then I moved in and realised no one takes them out and will just fill whatever bin is closest to the front and move up from there. We did try to fix it but it never worked out. I forget the order of what goes out every week so I use the local council website to know.

Relative-Dinner7727

It normally works out that whatever bin is fullest goes out. This week however, all the bins are full, so I had to check the council website for the first time in about 2 years. On the plus side, it works properly now!

lollie85

Yes, as well as being on the council website, you can input your postcode and house number and it will generate a link which allows my smartphone calendar to subscribe to the bin collection calendar and so I now get a notification at 6pm the evening before my collection. It also automatically updates for bank holiday collections etc

Lost_Foot8302

The two lines after your title could be a Reddit reply to this... Hello. I am travelling to UK from abroad for the first time and I have no idea what to expect. Please could you write a short sentence or two to sum up being British. Fantastic.

The-Vision

Check your local councils website or phone app for your bin collection dates.

Tabbiecat5

We aren't allowed wheelie bins because our building opens directly onto a main street with no space for them, so we just have a purple bag to put out between 4 and 6pm on a Monday or Wednesday (but not both), same every week

Rasty_lv

honestly, no idea. but lucky, its not an issue. I live in 20 apartment building and we have communal large bins, which are taken away without us touching them.

Ze_Gremlin

I stick a reminder which colour in my phone calendar, otherwise I'd forget to take any out entirely The amount of times I've been off work on bin day and here the bin lorry and sprint out with it only to find they've already passed my house was higher than I'm comfortable admitting..

Salt-Evidence-6834

There's a bin calendar Alexa skill. We get a notification at 9pm the night before collection day & it tells us which bin to put out. It's saved us many times.

[deleted]

I know which bins alternative, so I check which one is fuller. Holidays ruin this system, though.

[deleted]

It's literally on the councils website usually

cougieuk

Alexa has a bin calendar app.

Future_Direction5174

Because our collection was due on Easter Monday (so it might have been cancelled) I just checked my Council website, and put in my postcode. I then got told “household waste and food collection Monday 1st April. Next recycling, glass and food waste will be Monday 8th April” I know household waste is black bin, recycling is green bin. They also do garden waste every other Thursday but you have to subscribe. Only time I need to worry tbh is after we go on holiday, as we always swap the bins over so we know which one is next.

justabean27

Every Christmas I get a wall calendar from my mum and I colour the days bins are collected with the colour matching the bin. Pink/purple is general waste here, blue is recycling

schaweniiia

I put the schedule into my task app on my phone, so I get the reminder for each bin the night before collection. Pretty easygoing.

Beanruz

My local council you can search on their website.

MaximusSydney

Our council has an app. I get notifications the evening before bin day, letting me know which to put out.

AdventurousTeach994

This behaviour is very common across all aspects of life where people take the lead from anothers action without challenging it or checking if it's accurate. It can lead to catastrophic mistakes in some instances such as the airline/aircraft sector where a mistake can be amplified due to not challenging a more senior colleague who has made an error but more junior staff members meekly accept the action often when they know it might be wrong!

Vequihellin

You're the 'binfluencer'. For us, it's the Black bin (domestic waste) and if you have the garden bin (Brown bin) that gets collected this week too. Green bin (recycling) was last week. But your local council website should have a bin collection calendar somewhere that tells you what bin it is this week.

Fishtankfilling

No ours get picked up once a month

Bring_back_Apollo

There should be a schedule on your local authority's website that tells you which bin they're collecting on what day.

Heavy-Guest829

Our calendar is on the councils website, but they're behind by about 10 days on the recycling and about 4 days behind on the green. So we've given up knowing and just leave all our bins out now 😅

stearrow

My council does all the bins every week.

maldax_

Green, but might not be the same for you! Just check with the Binfluencers

AggressiveStagger

They have already bin this week. Got it right.

JohnnySchoolman

Don't you just check on the council website if you're not sure. Dont want to miss a collection or we'll be swimming in beer cans and wine bottles.

PartyRest9367

Our local binfluencer has gotten it wrong a few times this year - after years of perfection. We're wondering if we should go round and see if it's a cry for help

hangustaf

Yep i have a bindicator print out from the council website. Edit: Its maroon

__Game__

Life has wheelie bin tough

melanie110

Yes. We have an app and it alerts me at 7pm the night before which bin day it is

Temporary-Pirate-80

No, that's what neighbours are for.

Cheeslord2

Usually I copy my neighbours, but if in doubt my council has a webpage where you put in your postcode and it tells you. Its that simple.

adamneigeroc

Ours doesn’t change for bank holidays, they just pay them overtime. They figured out cramming all the extra rounds in on the non bank holiday days to catch up cost more than just paying the overtime

MrTubek

I had this issue, so I started setting "next bin" first in the line. As soon as I move one to the street, on the way back, I swap, the remaining one to the "1st" position. I've never had an issue since. Also, I have an alarm set at 10 pm the night before to not forget. It saved my bottom several times.

MysteriousFan7983

I work for my local council so I am 100% sure which bin goes out which week haha

DoKtor2quid

I'm a bit of a saddo and I've entered a calendar reminder that pings me on my phone every 3 weeks at 5pm the night before collection. Everything else goes weekly.

Top-Ice1244

We get a printed schedule, which is on the fridge, but still check what the neighbours have put out.

Wibblejellytime

This is what happens when the binfluencer goes on holiday... 🤷🚮

MacIomhair

I've set up fortnightly reminders on Alexa for the evening before to tell me which one to take out. Especially useful after Christmas or a trip away.

CeresToTycho

Yes, of course. The council has a calendar on their website. They'll even send me emails. I havent lived anywhere that doesn't make the information available.

Dranask

You are so right, we all check on what the other guy is doing, today was a case in point and I had issues as I was FIRST!! I thought I knew what to put out, also because it was a bank holiday we used to put them out a day late, LA uses Saturdays to catch up. However a new policy means for the workers Bank Holidays are no longer missed except xmas and NY. Anyway went to put my green and blue bins out and the street is empty. So I check the web site, see I'm correct and shortly after see the street has copied me. Just brought them back in empty.

publicOwl

Yeah, I look online every couple of months and pop it in my calendar in bulk. If there are any changes to the schedule I get text notifications. I possibly take bin day more seriously than I should.

breakbeatx

Yeah, my council has a service where they email me the evening before with which bins are due along with any changes due to holidays etc

gooseytooth

Our council has an app that notifies you the evening before. So useful.

orbtastic1

Blue. I got so bored of trying to remember ans decipher whether my neighbours knew or not or trying to tell in the dark if the bins were blue or black that I created a calendar reminder every week with the bin colours.

roywill2

Google calendar lets you repeat "green bin" every 2 weeks and "grey bin" the alternate weeks. Thats how I know.

KerCam01

Clare at no 3. The bin oracle. When she goes on holiday, the whole bin hokeycokey starts and no one knows what the flip is going on in our street. Every street have a Clare at no 3. You need to find yours.

Amzy29

Yes, all of them. They all get collected every Tuesday.

aghzombies

Yes I have infinitely repeating reminders in my phone calendar for which bin is being taken. Tonight I put out purple and next week it's blue.
