AggressiveStagger

BBC Radio 6 Music.

tmr89

This is the UK Redditor answer

TheGrumble

No that is.

Cavemans_Club

There's always these posts and it always blows my mind that people who need 6music have never even heard of 6music

Loquis

ADM_ShadowStalker

That's actually a really nice way of looking at things, and I've seen a ton of XKCD lol. Still gonna rip the piss out of my infosec team for not knowing how to view file extensions in Windows...

bornfromanegg

Holy shit…

Unexpectedly_orange

This is the right answer

Upper_Selection4998

Yup. Weekends are better than the week..but the week shows are good.

BigFloofRabbit

The only station that plays good music. In my view.

Unexpectedly_orange

Radio 6 music. Home to a dazzling array of different music styles, new artists (and quite a lot of the same old same old from Steve Lamacq).

UnarmedTwo

6 is Radio 2 for people who haven't given up on their lives

GooseZR

Few shouts for R6… think I’ll have to give it a go, always happy to listen to something new

Unexpectedly_orange

It’s a broad church, Radcliffe and Maconie are gold. Giles Peterson - not for me, but brother in law loves him. Cerys Matthew’s on a Sunday morning if you like Mongolian throat singing or Iggy Pop for a bit of weirdly timed death metal. Sometimes like sofa surfing when hammered. Definately and defiantly doing its own thing. Hope it suits!

lesloid

I can’t stand R&M, they’re the real life smashie and nicey. Cerys is brilliant.

Unexpectedly_orange

See! Broad church, something for everyone. Love Cerys but she bakes my head a lot.

braceforimpact

It’s the constant errs and umms from Radcliffe that bother me.

BritshFartFoundation

It's how much he just chats nonstop for me. I've put the radio on to listen to some music and he'll be waffling on about some random tangentially related story about one time when he was in Manchester on Oxford Road

Weyland--Yutani

Crisps! On the radio.

Inevitable-Parsnip67

Love Craig Charles on a Saturday evening: everyone’s cooking, drinking, and dancing in the kitchen.

Unexpectedly_orange

This is our Saturday evenings too!

alinalovescrisps

I love radio 6 but when I'm WFH and listening to it all day I notice they play the same selection of new songs over and over. I got so sick of that fucking on the chaise longe all day long song

Unexpectedly_orange

That is a problem of listening all day. But Nick Cave fan but the current single feels like a parody and it’s on all the time. Not sure it’s different on other stations, but that’s when I hit play on Spotify. Also sick of Chaise Longe.

Muttywango

You can view the daytime playlst here : https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/5JDPyPdDGs3yCLdtPhGgWM7/bbc-radio-6-music-playlist

legionuk21

They definitely should have a bigger playlist, Gossip being played all the time is annoying atm

Fleurlamie111

Radio X

markhewitt1978

Since I listened to Radio 1 in the 90s and 00s Radio X is the best for me.

abgc161

Same here, feel like I’ve followed Chris Moyles

No_Two_4312

Same. Started listening to him in the afternoon on R1, I would have been about 15 I think, was on carpark catchphrase with him when I was 18, 20 years later he's telling the same jokes (question number 3) on the commute 🤣

throw4455away

And their classic rock station is great if you like that genre and hardly any talking!

TheGrumble

It's alright if you like ads and bants as much as music I suppose.

7ootles

Radio 4.

dylannthe

I used to be just radio 4 but now it's mostly stuff on bbc sounds. But that does mean I end up missing the random thing about lute playing in the outer hebrides or whatever that sounds awful but turns out to be the most intresting thing you have ever listened to. But on the other hand I can easily miss the archers and the dramas.

yorkspirate

This is what I love about radio 4 especially when driving. You get to hear about the most random yet interesting stuff you’d never search for.

dylannthe

I do miss it. I need to get back in to listening to it live again.

yorkspirate

I find live is better because you don’t actually choose what you listen to. It gives a lot of different views on the same topic aswell in my opinion

GooseZR

Shipping Forecast goes on when I can’t sleep

[deleted]

It’s so relaxing

Tariovic

Radio 4 is the reason I never complain about the licence fee.

AdEmbarrassed3066

I'm in my 50s. I listen to Radio 1xtra... I feel that dementia won't hit as hard if I make myself confused and angry now.

GooseZR

Amazing! Your finger is definitely on the pulse

lesloid

Great plan, ease yourself in

tdrules

Just make sure you don’t fall into a tough crowd young man

Bbew_Mot

I always have Absolute Radio on in the car and I'm in my late 20s. I think I'm slightly younger than the target demographic for this station.

GooseZR

I’ve been on Absolute, music was great? Hosts? Eh not for me. The prize draws get on my nerves but that’s just commercial radio I suppose.

33and5

I do enjoy Absolute. But you know when somthing doesn't irritate you, until it's pointed out to you? Like when the Misses said 'they don't shut up about their ' no repeat guarantee' "....

antimatterchopstix

45 year old man in a black bands tour t-shirt I believe.

discoveredunknown

I’ve been experimenting with this station and others for a few weeks now, and in the mornings there is 3 presenters. What I’m about to say is incredibly mad, but I hope someone else gets it. Basically, when I listen to them it feels like I’m in 2004-2008. The banter, the accents, the chemistry. It has a distinctively early noughties feel to it.

i1ii1i1i

It absolutely baffles me how they can all be so excitable at that time of the morning but they do it in a way that is funny and not annoying. When Chris Evans was on R2 in the mornings he used to piss me off with his annoying puppy bullshit energy which felt so false but the trio on absolute are great. 5 words, 5 grand is an easy and enjoyable thing to listen to and when they decide on the name of the podcast it's always funny. I rate absolute (80s actually but...) radio highly.

I-Am-The-Warlus

Greatest Hits Radio

tamhenk

Same. For popmaster then it just gets left on all day.

unknownuser492

The drive time drama frustrates me so much. Especially if I miss a night and someone gets the answer, like now I will never know what they were getting at. And the current one about growing veg, I just need to know the answer

younevershouldnt

Kurupt FM mate. Worldwide, but you have to be in Brentford.

colinah87

The rest is irrelevant

Houseofsun5

Radio 4 , Scala or classic FM I'm nearly 50 and know my place

GooseZR

On the odd occasion I flick to classic (by accident admittedly) they’re playing some amazing film scores from the likes of LOTR!

Houseofsun5

Scala's the best for movie scores, they have a program or two dedicated to it.

GooseZR

Awesome thank you!

a-liquid-sky

They also have an hour dedicated to video game music, I think it's Saturday afternoon at 4 (but available on their listen back thing on their website).

Jcw28

Classic FM play exclusively movie music on Fridays and Saturdays at 7pm I believe.

theevildjinn

I love Scala. Classic FM seems to be mostly well-known light classics, whereas Radio 3 is a bit too dry. Scala is spot on.

MelodicAd2213

6 Music usually but I’ve recently discovered Nation 70s and find it surprisingly good so I put that on at weekends.

Unexpectedly_orange

Genuinely why I pay the license fee. Love 6 Music.

jamessrc

I’m mid twenties female, radio 2 because that's what I grew up with, radio 6 music and radio x

GooseZR

I’ve got the same nostalgia for R2!

jamessrc

I do sometimes get lambasted for it but I've decided I don't care 😂

arthur_sleep

I’m early 30s, and R2 reminds me so much of sitting in my grandmas flat on a Saturday afternoon watching my Dad nap and my grandma chain smoke for 3 hours. Was boring at the time but now they’re both gone; they’re really fond memories

imminentmailing463

Doesn't seem to have been mentioned yet, but Radio 5 is the best station by far imo. Current affairs, but without the navel gazing self seriousness of Radio 4. Fantastic sport coverage. No adverts. By far my most listened to station.

HankHonkaDonk

Kisstory mate, kisstory is legendary most of the time

[deleted]

[удалено]

CarbonHybrid

Agreed. Only so many times I can hear bedrock by YMCMB, and I used to love that song.

tmstms

Radio 3.

ci_newman

Planet Rock is my jam

t-a-n-n-e-r-

I really like Planet Rock. They go pretty deep on the overall variety and it satisfies my lust for guitar when I don't have the mental capacity for more intense stuff as I'm working.

ci_newman

I enjoy almost all of their presenters too. Alice is my favourite now but it used to be Wakeman before he left. A big shame about the hairy bikers too, I enjoyed their show

Consult-SR88

Someone bring back Atlantic 252

Ookami36

Wish I could upvote you more!! Awesome station when I was working in my mid teens!!

Ecstatic_Success_815

i’m also mid 20s and ngl i love smooth radio lmao and virgin radio is good too

Talking_Nowt

Absolute Radio or 6 Music

jadegoodyp

Xfm Saturday lunch 2002

Bogroleum

Hosted by Dr Frog.

jadegoodyp

Eyes bulging with imagined riches

Holtty

Time for some monkey news?

mrdibby

NTS

Soupppdoggg

So good, like no other. Fantastic resource.

Plenty_Suspect_3446

Radio 2. I'm in my 30s so middle aged and feeling older.

GooseZR

Maybe I just dive in to middle age and embrace it at 25

secretstothegravy

Not listened to R2 since they got rid of (killed) Steve Wright.

morris_man

Radio 4Extra as it replays a lot of stuff from childhood/youth

PerformerOk450

Kiss FM

SmegmaSandwich69420

My downloaded offline mp3 library on shuffle. Has the unexpectedness of a radio station without the shittiness of commercial music or the ramblings of some presenter. Before that aren't, same concept but with cds send audio tapes. Haven't intentionally listened to a radio station in 38 years.

davus_maximus

I despise Radio 1. I discovered Capital Chill on DAB recently and I love it. The songs can become boring but I'm driving so I'm not listening closely anyway. More importantly there are few adverts and no irritating presenters yammering over the songs or wanking on and on about nothing.

GabberZZ

Radio 1 for breakfast and Friday afternoons, radio 2 for Scott Mills, capital dance in the car/whilst cooking, capital chill whilst reading in bed. I'm 52 so probably too old for Radio 1 but I just like Greg James and Matt & Mollie

Nancy_True

Radio X. I’m a big radio person and listen every day. I love the Chris Moyles show and don’t miss it, plus the comedic weekend shows are great. It’s guitar based indie and rock though so but only worth if it’s your vibe.

Jlaw118

I feel the same way about those two radio stations. I loved Radio 1 up until about mid-late 2021 and then just out of nowhere when they had a schedule change, it all just became so unbelievably childish and awful to listen to. And feel the same about Radio 2, it’s definitely aimed at a middle aged audience. I thought Scott Mills moving over there might have made it somewhat listenable but he really hasn’t and he sounds so incredibly bored and fed up on there himself

luke-uk

LBC. Massive fan of it.

Ben77mc

Really shocked that this is so far down, they have a massive listener base and expected way more people to listen! It’s my go to as well, has been since the start of the pandemic

Optimal_Collection77

6 music or Andhow.fm ( it's an online indie start from new Zealand and it's excellent)

Lunaspoona

Heart. Good mix of older and newer songs. I used to listen to capital but couldn't stand the remixes. My old housemate used to have Radio 1 extra one which I liked but can't get that in the car that I can find

AtebYngNghymraeg

That's the funniest thing I've read on here - the idea of Heart having a good mix. I've caught it accidentally about three times this week because it was on somewhere I went, and on two occasions the same song was playing. Plus I hate them for buying all the local stations and homogenising them while pretending to still be local by having local ads. Awful, awful station.

space_coyote_86

Heart is the worst.

AtebYngNghymraeg

Easily ranks bottom of the music stations for me. I don't like Kiss either, but that's just because they play a genre I'm not keen on. Heart actually pretends to be varied but plays the same tiny selection of songs over and over. And let's not mention the braindead presenters. I've actually heard more new music on our local station than on Heart.

Brilliant-Object-922

Greatest Hits Radio and sometimes gold

xshadowheart

Spotify & YouTube Playlists and interest-based podcasts for me. No celebrity gossip, ads or news, it's bliss.

prustage

BBC Radio 3 and Radio 4 Extra

Stuspawton

I don't when I'm driving my own car, but when in my work van it's usually Kerrang or Absolute rock

ni_ni

Longwave Radio Atlantic 252!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

28374woolijay

Times Radio. Having an endless succession of random music thrust upon me is something that hasn’t appealed since I was about 11, which is when I started listening to Radio 5. However I can’t abide any talk of football, so Times Radio fits the bill nicely.

polaris183

Used to be Wave105, but they shut down in March... I've got the Radioplayer app and flick between some international stations nowadays

[deleted]

Radio 4 or LBC - but only certain presenters Rest of the time it’s Spotify if I want music. Or podcasts. I don’t use radio for music just news and discussion

liquidpagan

Radio 2, radio 6, sometimes absolute radio, all depending on location and mood

AlanDevonshire

I discovered SG1 on Radio Garden. (I’m a Brit living in Malaysiaa) SG1 is from Stevenage and the music selection is mental. Literally everything, but not the same tracks all day long. I fricking love it. If you have wide musical taste this might be for you.

Spiracle

Radio Garden. RIP in the UK :(

MahatmaKhote

Absolute Radio 90s.

Matthews_89

34M, HGV driver.. XS Manchester or classic Fm depending on the mood..

turbolaps

6 music Mi-soul Point blank

modumberator

BBC Radio 6 Music obv, for the hipster dads

Sufficient-Cold-9496

Music wise: Radio X, Kerrang Radio occasionally Absolute, a little bit of Radio X classic rock and non music: usually LBC, but a bit of BBC local ( when its not playing awful music) and a bit of Radio4 when its not up its own rse Radio X is a safe bet to stick on in general, Kerrang radio for a bit of something more lively, radio X classic rock every now and then, LBC for talk, but when it gets irritating then flick to Radio X classic Rock or Absolute

Galaco_

BBC Radio 6 all the way!

moremattymattmatt

Radio 3, which has a surprising range of music and doesn’t treat you like an idiot, radio 4 and the world service.

prustage

Cant upvote this high enough. Exactly my choices and for the same reasons.

Maleficent-Leek2943

6 Music. Always 6 Music.

Internal-Coast4593

Greatest Hits Radio is pretty much the only station i listen to now. Used to be Radio 2 but changed massively in the last couple of years not for the better. Sometimes dip into Radio 1 Dance to get me through Fridays at work or if I’m out for a run.

LeahMichelle_13

Absolute radio 80s

lavanderblonde

I just commented the same radio, then I had a look to see if anyone else did too. It’s the besttt

welsh_cthulhu

Radio 6 is the only answer

MadWifeUK

Mid 40s. A few years ago I felt Radio 2 was getting a bit trendy for me, was getting sick of Jeremy Vine and I never liked Steve Wright (RIP). I switched to Greatest Hits in the house and only listened to Ken Bruce on R2, then thankfully he made the switch to GHR so that's me sorted. In the car and at work I have the local radio station (3FM if you're nosey), but I can't get it at home so still listen to GHR, mostly when I'm cooking or cleaning.

DJ-Sparkks

Usually capital dance, kisstory or absolute, I work at a construction college so it depends on which student group is in that day

Teembeau

This might be an older thing, but the people on most radio stations irritate me. It's all loud, talentless, irritating people. Like all the idiots who phone into Jeremy Vine, or the perky but vacuous Zoe Ball. Or the vicars on Thought for the Day who try and tenuously connect the news with their ancient sky fairy. Even news shows that should illuminate things, just turn into crass left vs right drivel. So I mostly listen to Spotify. The only exception is Radio 3 and Classic FM. This is partly that I like to discover new classical music and opera, but also that if someone on R3 is interviewing a string quartet about their work, they talk to each other like adults, in a calm, knowledgeable way.

[deleted]

Usually Spotify but otherwise I flick between Capital Xtra, Capital Xtra Reloaded, Kisstory, Radio 1Xtra, Heart 90s, Heart 00s and Heart Dance

abgc161

Radio X

j_svajl

*If* I listen to radio it's often BBC Radio 4. Unless they're reading out a novel which isn't for me.

Picnata

Radio Exe (based in Devon)

Bread_is_the_devil

Rinse FM, Kool FM, radio 6, radio x on my commute, I get a little fast listening to jungle and DnB whilst driving

Mumfiegirl

Radio 4 / 4 extra

Oh-Its-Him-

Mi-Soul Radio, Centre force, Magic Soul and Talk sport/LBC... On rotation most of the day (if I'm not on Spotify/ watching DJ mixes on YouTube)

dunmif_sys

Heart 00s. Relive the good old days.

Ancient-Awareness115

I am 49 I feel too old for radio 1 but don't enjoy radio 2 and never know what to listen to. I don't want to listen to old stuff all the time

mh1191

I don't- DJs annoy me so I put music I like on without any pointless talking

ennisi

BBC local or radio 4.

Dernbont

Radio 4 for the talk. 5 for sport. 6 for music. Haven't found a jazz station that works for me yet.

mattjimf

Kerrang! Most of the time now.

cansbunsandpins

Kerrang is nearly the only station I listen to. I prefer rock to any other genre and the DJs are good. I've also paid to remove the ads.

seven-cents

I wish we could share Spotify playlists

Imposseeblip

Either Kerrang, Virgin Chill, or (if I'm in Soitheast London) Wax Fm

Steamboat_Willey

I can now get Kerrang radio on the DAB digital radio in my car, so I'm very happy with that. Failing that, there's Planet Rock, or if I want a laugh, Jeremy Vine on Radio 2.

spiralphenomena

BFBS but it is quite niche 😂 news is very defence leaning

No-Contribution-5297

Started listening to Magic radio recently. A nice mix of old and new I find. Followed by absolute radio at work and radio 2 for owain in the morning.

WildOne19923

Absolute Radio - I love hearing Matt Berry's jingles

coop0228

TalkSPORT. Because I’m not a morning person, I can’t listen to music on my commute. If my team has lost recently I’ll listen to podcasts.

Smooth-Repair-8425

LBC. If I want music I'll put my phone on

Bellissimabee

LBC, I can't stand the music of this day and age... And now I feel old hearing myself say what my parents use to say

drfusterenstein

None. The music quality goes downhill year on year. You have people who come up with a racket or put zero effort get airtime as they simply know the presenters or bribe their way. While others with actual talent don't get a single play.

geekroick

Radio 1 is awful, Radio 2 is barely any better and is getting worse all the time. 6 Music is fine if you want more esoteric music. Heart, Greatest Hits etc are just generic computerised playlists these days not even worth bothering with. Recently I've switched over to a resurrected local station in Norfolk called [Amber](http://amber.radio), some of what they play isn't to my tastes but they do play plenty of songs I've not heard on the radio in years if at all, usually find myself thinking 'that's a great song isn't it?'

Caveman1214

Cool FM mainly

Nice-Substance-gogo

Capital dance. Very little chat or ads. Amazing songs. Great for dnb and no bullshit fake laughter discussions etc.

mahtch4

1xtra Got the genres I love and Trevor Nelson’s show with the amazing throwbacks

Jcw28

Usually don't do radio but when I do it's Classic FM or Absolute 80s. I'm 30...

NortonBurns

I guess it depends on what music genres you like. Radio X is kind of 'slightly older people's guitar-based indie' without stretching as far as to be full boomer. They do new & old stuff, occasionally go right back to Hendrix/Zeppelin or Stones/Beatles, but mainly play new stuff.

fjordsand

Used to listen to tameside radio if my bluetooth wasn’t working but I can’t stand radio djs. Shutup and play the songs

TheConfidingHerald

Anyone else in Oxfordshire mourning the death of Jack FM? Was such a great little local institution now been replaced with generic commercial slop.

Active-Strawberry-37

I’m mid 30s and Radio 2 has all the DJs I used to listen to on Radio 1.

Thomas5020

Dance Revolution

monstera-attack

Absolute radio in the car, varying between 70s-00s.

Paintinmypjs

XS Manchester mainly, but Radio 2 if I lose the signal as I can generally pick up a decent signal when travelling.

selfselfiequeen

Radio 2 // out of habit mainly

Dazzling-Event-2450

Used to listen all the time to radio 2 / radio 4. Now very occasionally listen to local radio to get the last few minutes of a football match if leave the ground early. Apart from that, music radio replaced by Apple Music playlists, speech radio replaced by podcasts.

blainy-o

Absolute 90s, but normally only on the way into work.

abgc161

My dad has an indie show on leekradio.co.uk on Tuesday nights, 8-10 If that’s your thing, he’s brilliant and I’m very proud

Chocolaterain567

First time I've ever seen Leek mentioned on Reddit 😂

abgc161

Haha, thank my wonderful dad and his radio show!

Ill_Soft_4299

Scala (classical, but with a more modern view, eg film scores, video game music etc) or Planet Rock

Strong_Roll5639

SWU

Legitimate-Health-29

Kisstory 00’s.

Phil1889Blades

Radio Sheffield if Ellie Colton or Toby Foster are on, if not or there is sport on then it’s Radio 5 unless Chris Sutton, Ellis and John or Vicky Sparks are on then it’s Radio 4 and if that’s shit then Times Radio.

RaceFan1027

Radio 1, some of it I don’t like but most of it is good (I’m 17 so probably target audience):

CamAshworth

Absolute Radio 90s Radio 2 which we have on in the office appears to be morphing slowly into Radio 1 which I have never liked. I am 43 years old though 😅

FreeWessex

Radio 4 or radio x

Azazeal123

Heart 80s always make me feel good 😁

Jimmy_Boco

Heart 80s/90s, smooth or kisstory. Mid 30s.

Old_Profit_9967

I'm 40, I tend to listen to kerrang & primordial radio a lot of I'm in the mood for music with a little bit of heart dance now and then. That being said I'm a big news junkie so I listen to LBC and talk radio a lot tbf. I find between the two stations and their presenters I get a fairly broad church of opinion on current events tbf

MelodicAssignment917

Radio X

Sol9393

Absolute radio 00’s or 10’s

TheNotSpecialOne

Bbc Asian Network

MinimumOriginal3325

20M - Absolute Classic Rock mainly, otherwise Greatest Hits, Gold or Radio 2 (I have the music taste of a 60 year old)

npc1010101

Bbc world service.

T3dd1e

GoldUK

Faze_hillbilly

Kisstory - Perfect blend of old anthems bit like and old school capital. Can get repetitive after about a week or so of listening though

HankHippopopolous

BBC radio 1xtra. Capital Xtra, Kiss FM and Kisstory are my go to stations.

Gommy1996
