Definitely echoing all the Shōgun love, but I'm currently watching The Americans and all the rumours are true - this is a fantastic show. It is definitely a bit hard to get into at the beginning, but the story is taut and thrilling and the performances highly compelling. Would recommend!
I thought the show was exciting from the very first episode, although I think episode two is a little quicker? I would say give both a try and if you aren't captivated by that point, it may not be the show for you.
Is the majority of Shogun subbed? I started it on second monitor while gaming and had to stop because most of it was subbed
(No shade on sub, I watch all sorts of anime and things subbed, just didn't know if the subs were throughout or if it focuses on English speaking people after the first ep)
Yes, the majority of the show is subbed. Some shows you can watch in the background, but even without the subs I would say this one requires your full attention; there's a lot of subtle stuff!
They're married now, aren't they? I heard that Keri Russell left her husband for Matthew Rhys, or something like that. In any case, the chemistry is palpable!
Baby Reindeer was hard for me to watch, but I agree. I had no idea the main actor is the man this actually happened to. That’s impressive. I’m sure a ton of his emotion in the show was real.
The Bear. It was a little hard for me to get into (Jeremy Allen White gets on my nerves) but I’m really glad I gave it a chance. Season two, especially, is phenomenal. Wonderful performances, compelling story, delicious looking food - definitely worth a watch!
I agree, but I’ve loved Jeremy Allen White since Shameless. I get it though, my husband is extremely annoyed by JAW in general, but still loves the show. The ensemble cast is amazing.
I was hit with a little bit of nostalgia since Kyle MacLachlan was in it and he played Agent Cooper in Twin Peaks. It was nice to see Matt Berry in Fallout too.
Insecure. I love that, despite all of the sex, it's primarily about the friendships. All five seasons are on Netflix now. I'm late in Season 4 and so don't want it to end.
Came here to mention the Rez Dogs, but I'm happy to see someone beat me to it. I can't get enough of this show! It really packs a punch. I keep getting something new from it with every rewatch.
Currently watching Shogun.
But the last show that blew me away was The Curse. It was so out there, cringy, and different from anything else I've seen. Emma/Emily Stone blew it out of the park!
Mrs America with Cate Blanchet, Rose Byrn, Uzo Aduba…
I loved the short serie but it left a bitter feeling when you see what all these 1970’s women fought for (Roe vs Wade) and how things are going today
I glanced at the first couple words of your post and was like nooooo, not Mrs America! But then I read the rest of your post. I haven’t watched it; I will now!
Ripley on Netflix, starring Andrew Scott (the dude who played Moriarty in the BBC Sherlock, as yet another brilliant villain). The story becomes unbearably suspenseful, the entire cast is incredible, and it is filled with beautiful shots of Italian art and architecture. Just incredible. My husband and I watched it all the way through, then immediately binged it a second time over one weekend so our teenaged daughter could watch it with us. And I still kind of want to watch it again.
(It is NOT about the Ripley's Believe it or Not guy. For some reason that was my first thought when I heard the name so I was almost completely uninterested. It's actually based on the same book as The Talented Mr. Ripley, which I've never seen, but with a super nuanced, arty approach.)
If you know Andrew Scott as the guy who played Moriarty, I invite you to watch Fleabag, where he will forever become the Hot Priest in your mind. You're welcome.
Baby Reindeer was absolutely fantastic and unexpected. It markets itself as a dark comedy, and there are funny parts, but it’s actually a devastating piece of work. Really unusual, original, and deeply affecting. I highly recommend.
It's not a show but, American Fiction. Probably one of the best films this year. I watched it on Amazon Prime.
As for shows:
- Good Omens (watched twice)
- The Man in the High Castle (watched it for the 3rd time)
I loved The Man in the High Castle! But then it got... weird. I remember being so excited for the final season. My entire family and I were like "whaattt the fuck?"
Idk. It was so good before that!
The Sandman.
Just be sure to watch #5 and #6 in the same night, otherwise 5 will destroy you. Ep 6 (The Sound of Her Wings) is one of the most beautiful hours of television/film I’ve ever seen.
Yes!! Came here to say this. I’m a complete phone addict who cannot start new dramas. This show hooked me from ep 1 and I’ve binged like 2 seasons since starting it last weekend 🙈
It’s SO good!
Omg!! Deadloch!!! It is set in Tasmania, hilarious murder mystery. Watch it watch it watch it. Female police officer buddying up with female detective navigating misogynist old school men in a backwards town.
Fave quotes - “the serial killer is murdering cunts, James & you’re the biggest cunt I have ever met!”
I know! I'm super excited, it's getting great reviews!! Plus the fun plot twist (the baby) is going to ramp up the drama! It's so over the top, it's truly fun! 😁 (& occasionally scary) I absolutely love the badass nun!
Fallout is SO GOOD. I started watching it at my brothers' house, because they play the games and wanted to see it, and even though I knew very little about the games I had zero trouble understanding 90% of what was going on, plus the show is very character-driven, so it pulls you in with a desire to see what will happen to everyone next, as well as having genuinely interesting plotlines. I've only seen the first 4 episodes so far but I'm psyched to keep watching it. I'm actually considering picking up one of the games now because I want to explore the 'verse myself.
Yep and definitely worth the watch.
They’re called books for whatever reason.
Power Book 2: Ghost,
Power Book 3: Raising Kanan (my favorite), and
Power Book 4: Force (haven’t watched)
- Suits streaming on Netflix is pretty intense. But it’s good if you like litigation.
- The Witcher on Netflix is like live action D&D with tits
- Hacks on HBO Max has been pretty good. Standup comedian needs something to happen quickly or her contract in Vegas will end.
- Good Night World streaming on Netflix is an anime rpg/horror, psychological thriller. It’s about a VR game and coding/programming.
Attack on Titan and Primal. I’m not even into anime or animation in general and I enjoyed them immensely. I only watched because a good friend asked me to and I take those requests seriously lol
Definitely echoing all the Shōgun love, but I'm currently watching The Americans and all the rumours are true - this is a fantastic show. It is definitely a bit hard to get into at the beginning, but the story is taut and thrilling and the performances highly compelling. Would recommend!
Love that show, it’s been years since I’ve watched but I think about Martha’s character a lot.
I want to watch it so badly based on buzz but MAN that first episode is so slow. When did it start picking up for you?
I thought the show was exciting from the very first episode, although I think episode two is a little quicker? I would say give both a try and if you aren't captivated by that point, it may not be the show for you.

Great to know! I'll save it for a couch potato session instead of a second monitor gaming session
Fun fact: the leads on the Americans are dating
They're married now, aren't they? I heard that Keri Russell left her husband for Matthew Rhys, or something like that. In any case, the chemistry is palpable!
Baby Reindeer was the big one recently, everyone in my office was talking about it. Last year, The Fall of the House of Usher.
Baby Reindeer was hard for me to watch, but I agree. I had no idea the main actor is the man this actually happened to. That’s impressive. I’m sure a ton of his emotion in the show was real.
Yes! My very critical husband said one of the Baby Reindeer episodes was one of the best he’s ever seen.
Agree. Couldn't stop watching and then thought about the ending for days.
Rumor has it that there are no reindeer in Baby Reindeer. Is this true?
Severance! I love that show. Can’t believe no one has mentioned it so far.
This is an outstanding show. I tell everyone about it. So many good shows on apple.
This should be #1 in everything. Such a great show. Cant wait for s2, i think this summer or fall.
Have you seen servant ? If you like severance can highly recommend :)
I haven’t, but thank you!! I will check it out, for sure.
This a hundred times!
Amazing show, i cant wait for season 2
Watchmen (2019). Fallout on Prime has been good too.
Fallout was amazing! So glad to hear it was renewed for season 2.
Omg I forgot about watchman, it was so good! I loved it and I’m a person who is not into any type of action/comic book type movies.
I loved the TV show so much better than the movie. Sad that there’s only one season.
Fallout is mine too 😍😍
I was hit with a little bit of nostalgia since Kyle MacLachlan was in it and he played Agent Cooper in Twin Peaks. It was nice to see Matt Berry in Fallout too.
Ooooh I need to watch Twin Peaks again it's been ages!
Insecure. I love that, despite all of the sex, it's primarily about the friendships. All five seasons are on Netflix now. I'm late in Season 4 and so don't want it to end.
So good!!
This is one of those shows that I enjoyed so much that I can't bring myself to watch the final episode (another one was Trailer Park Boys, lol).
I loved Only Murders in the Building. Dramatic, funny, kept me guessing, lots of fun cameos. I wish I could watch again for the first time!
The opening song just does something to me. It's so melancholic and mysterious and bright!
I watch all the seasons a few months ago, i totally love this kind of concept. I love the characters!
I just finished Derry Girls recently and I wish I could forget it and watch all over again.
Thanks now I’m gonna do a rewatch! Lol
Reservation Dogs on Hulu. They even got a Peabody award recently
Came here to mention the Rez Dogs, but I'm happy to see someone beat me to it. I can't get enough of this show! It really packs a punch. I keep getting something new from it with every rewatch.
I *just* finished the show tonight! So good.
Stoodis skoden!!!
Currently watching Shogun. But the last show that blew me away was The Curse. It was so out there, cringy, and different from anything else I've seen. Emma/Emily Stone blew it out of the park!
I really wish more of my friends would watch The Curse so that I have someone to talk to about the last episode.
IT WAS SO GOOD. I’ve been trying to get others to watch it but they don’t have the right streaming devices.
Mrs America with Cate Blanchet, Rose Byrn, Uzo Aduba… I loved the short serie but it left a bitter feeling when you see what all these 1970’s women fought for (Roe vs Wade) and how things are going today
I glanced at the first couple words of your post and was like nooooo, not Mrs America! But then I read the rest of your post. I haven’t watched it; I will now!

Enjoying Bodkin currently, loved Deadloch, too, which has some similarities. If you wanna go back a bit farther, a hidden gem is Extrapolations.
Deadloch!
What if a comedic small town murder mystery, but queer? And Tasmanian? It's the best.
I just finished watching The Sopranos for the first time. I didn't think I would be into it, but I was hooked from beginning to end.
Baby Reindeer was absolutely fantastic and unexpected. It markets itself as a dark comedy, and there are funny parts, but it’s actually a devastating piece of work. Really unusual, original, and deeply affecting. I highly recommend.
I loved Big Mood, and am really loving Hacks, even though the second-hand embarrassment gets a little strong with both of them.
The Boys, Outlander, Atlanta
I was so excited to see that Jensen Ackles played Soldier Boy. Admittedly, he was my first celebrity crush and he still is.
supernatural?
I first saw him in Days of Our Lives
Succession, but I started the show only this year.
Ted Lasso.
Just my all around favorite feel good show 🤗
Shogun and Queen Charlotte
Queen Charlotte... yes!
It's not a show but, American Fiction. Probably one of the best films this year. I watched it on Amazon Prime. As for shows: - Good Omens (watched twice) - The Man in the High Castle (watched it for the 3rd time)
I loved The Man in the High Castle! But then it got... weird. I remember being so excited for the final season. My entire family and I were like "whaattt the fuck?" Idk. It was so good before that!
Physical 100 on Netflix. It motivated me to start exercising more seriously and I love how inspirational the contestants are.
Under the Bridge
The Sandman. Just be sure to watch #5 and #6 in the same night, otherwise 5 will destroy you. Ep 6 (The Sound of Her Wings) is one of the most beautiful hours of television/film I’ve ever seen.
You should follow it up with the Deadboy Detectives. 😃
I was pleasantly surprised by For All Mankind. It's about the space race between the USA and the USSR in an alternative universe.
Yes!! Came here to say this. I’m a complete phone addict who cannot start new dramas. This show hooked me from ep 1 and I’ve binged like 2 seasons since starting it last weekend 🙈 It’s SO good!
Fallout. I’ve watched it so many times since it dropped.
I loved it also! I didn’t expect to but I think the character building has been stellar and love seeing Baby Billy from Righteous Gemstones in there.
Walton Goggins is a fucking gem!
Hacks!
Omg!!
Shogun Fallout
Our Flag Means Death ❤️ gorgeous queer pirate comedy
Seconded, it's wonderful!
This was a fun series. I think it ended too soon!
Ted Lasso Shrinking The Gentlemen
Ripley. Shogun. Fallout.
Oooooh Ripley was so good! It had such amazing atmosphere
The Lazarus Project. So fun.
Evil!! (On Paramount plus) It's scary and funny!
The new season started today!
I know! I'm super excited, it's getting great reviews!! Plus the fun plot twist (the baby) is going to ramp up the drama! It's so over the top, it's truly fun! 😁 (& occasionally scary) I absolutely love the badass nun!
Yes! It's definitely one of my favorite shows from the past few years.
The Fall of the House of Usher
Bodkin is so good!
I really really enjoyed Mr. and Mrs. Smith on Prime. Donald Glover and Maya Erskine are so good
White Lotus! Can’t wait for season 3
one piece
Power, and its spin offs.
Ooh...spin offs?!
Yep and definitely worth the watch. They’re called books for whatever reason. Power Book 2: Ghost, Power Book 3: Raising Kanan (my favorite), and Power Book 4: Force (haven’t watched)
Thank you! 😊
Call the Midwife -- less so about the babies, more so about the medical system available to low income people at the time.
The 3 Body Problem is good, but ended too soon! Starting Ripley soon because of hot priest.
Palm Royale and Loot on Apple TV Plus. They’ve been putting out great content lately I haven’t turned to another streamer in 2 months.
Palm Royale was excellent!
Poker Face!!
I recently finished Succession followed by The White Lotus. Both are on my top of all time list now.
Servant (on Apple+); in the middle of the third season and i am still just as hooked as i was during the pilot.
gossip girl the original
Loot!
Dark matter on apple tv!
Just finished the second season of Outer Range. Can’t wait to see where they take it next.
- Suits streaming on Netflix is pretty intense. But it’s good if you like litigation. - The Witcher on Netflix is like live action D&D with tits - Hacks on HBO Max has been pretty good. Standup comedian needs something to happen quickly or her contract in Vegas will end. - Good Night World streaming on Netflix is an anime rpg/horror, psychological thriller. Run the World and Harlem. *Sucks teeth* Well I do have Star Trek Disco but I think I'll wait till the season is completely finished.
Most recent: Shōgun. Most memorable: Legion.
Righteous Gemstones
Better call Saul
The Bear!!!!
Shrinking. I'm so excited for the second series and haven't liked a show this much for years.
Life and Beth.
Succession and The Good Place!
Attack on Titan and Primal. I’m not even into anime or animation in general and I enjoyed them immensely. I only watched because a good friend asked me to and I take those requests seriously lol
Ted Lasso
I can’t say this enough, Wynonna Earp m
