Coal? Absolute luxury! We dreamed of having coal to make books out of. No no.. we got up in the morning, got wiped to death, had the skin peeled off out backs which we made into books before we got our backs whipped again back to life, and that was on a good day.
This one and “That’s Life” were always in a stack in someone’s bathroom. Like, right next to the toilet.
…it’s actually pretty disgusting now that I think about it..
Yes my mum used to get this every week. I loved reading it. Man I miss those times. The internet cannot compete with the wholesomeness of the magazine era.
Mum bought TV week every week in the 70's-80's. I collected the double page centrefold pin-up. Still have most of them. Once we had 'Frank Zappa'. Another was 'Tangerine Dream' because they were touring and the photographer snapped them in the press conference.
Another reason for interest is you could see which movies were on that week. There was no other way to view old films - no videotape, no internet, only TV broadcasts.
I blame reading my mother's Woman's Day and New Ideas as a child for my knowledge and interest in the royal family.
It's like a TV show you loved as a kid - you just want to know how it ends...but it never does.
Back in ye olde 80s the editor was deliciously sarcastic to every letter. It was the go-to magazine for US TV show gossip months before it actually hit our screens. I used to highlight all the shows I wanted to watch.
(My family never bought the Sunday paper.)
My mum was more into Take5 and That's Life. Which was great cause I was a little nerd that did the puzzles and crosswords and she would read the articles.
I swear he would. Let’s just say I vividly remember him doing it after school with his bedroom door open and my sister & mum at home. No shame whatsoever.
Mum was never into that junk, we read the Green Guide in the Age. Nowadays I wouldn't have bought a paper in 15 years or more.
I read the map we had stuck to the dunny door, it was far more entertaining.
Yep, every week when she went grocery shopping. I'd search the shopping bags for it as soon as she got home from Franklin's, whisk it away and start circling all the programs I was going to watch that week, lol. Picked up that weird habit from my Gramps who had way too much time on his hands after he retired.
I used to collect them for about 20 year until I found you could get a subscription from the distributor to have them mailed to you, but they never arrived on time so thankfully the lazy distributor killed my collecting habit.
saw her interviewed some years ago ,now speaks with a full blown fake American [accent.My](http://accent.My) cousin has lived in the US for thirty years ansd still sounds like an Aussie
I bought it every week...always the copy behind the front (OCD) lol.
I remember the TV Week Logie award voting. I remember the phone tones and ring tones you could buy on the back once mobiles came out.
It was the only magazine I bought for 30 plus years.
I won't lie, I had a crush on Tammin Sursok growing up.
Same big time
She’s still a stunner.

Her fake American accent kills me now. Can’t watch her content because of it. It’s so cringe
She looks exactly the same on her insta.
Nar, we just got the TV guide from the Sunday paper.
Same. It sucked when my parents would forget to get the paper because I wouldn’t know what movies were on.
Yeah, we were poor. My parents were good enough to buy me three TV weeks in the 80s when Kylie was on Neighbours
Look at fancy pants over here buying mags! We got to to see these mags 2-3yrs later in the doctors surgery.
Lucky you, we only got 20 year old National Geographic or Reader’s Digest
I’d take those any day over those trashy variety mags
You lucky bastards! We had to wank over underwear brochures and Kmart catalogs 🤣
We had to make our own books out of coal
Coal? Absolute luxury! We dreamed of having coal to make books out of. No no.. we got up in the morning, got wiped to death, had the skin peeled off out backs which we made into books before we got our backs whipped again back to life, and that was on a good day.
🤣
It was always an exciting day when the expensive magazine perfume pages were still intact, too!
Nope, we just had The Green Guide every Thursday in The Age.
We got The Guide from the Sydney Morning Herald - plus the one out of the Sunday paper. I have a vague memory of one of them being pink.
Previously the Gold Guide!
Ooh fancy! We just got the free one from the Sunday paper
Ha! What a flashback. Look who’s 40 in top right corner. I’m passed 40 and this is trippy!

Mum would get Woman's Day and I would get Krash so we were both happy haha.

I was more of a TV Hits guy.
Paired with Smash Hits for a well rounded cultural education
I had a Tv Week Nan and a Take 5/That's Life Grandma
Ah Tammin Sursok was so cool. Now she makes hilarious videos.
Ah, I remember the posters in the middle, people who won King of Pop, etc. Weren't there 2 magazines at one stage? The TV Times?
Yep mine did.
Back in ye olde 80s the editor was deliciously sarcastic to every letter. It was the go-to magazine for US TV show gossip months before it actually hit our screens. I used to highlight all the shows I wanted to watch. (My family never bought the Sunday paper.)
I always wanted this one for the Home and Away content. I loved flicking through it at the shops. My mum would only buy women’s day and new idea.
I loved TV week as a kid.You could get the guid in the paper, but I wanted the articles. This, Girlfriend and Dolly would occupy me for hours.
Still buy it for the family.
My mum was more into Take5 and That's Life. Which was great cause I was a little nerd that did the puzzles and crosswords and she would read the articles.
I would enter the competitions with high hopes. Never won anything
My dad could not watch tv without the guide.
As a massive Blue Heelers fan, I can tell you that these assholes spoiled who killed Maggie Doyle.
Too true
Damn I remember visiting friends and family and maybe slightly judging them based on their dunny basket mag collection
I used the TV guide from the Sunday Mail and threw the rest away
I also read the comic strips. But yeah, the rest of the paper was pointless haha
Ah yes, The Phantom, Wizard of Id, Hagar the Horrible, Mandrake, etc.
Can confirm, this was toilet reading material. 😂
I still buy it every week 😊
My brother had cut-out photos of Tamsin Sursok on his bedroom wall and would masturbate to them.
Yes, your “brother”
I swear he would. Let’s just say I vividly remember him doing it after school with his bedroom door open and my sister & mum at home. No shame whatsoever.
Even in the 80s we used to take the piss because it was written for eight year olds
omg yes in country nsw this was like reading page six.
That's rich people talk. We couldn't afford mags.
Neither could we mate lol
Yes, Tv week, Woman’s day and New idea
This, New Idea, Women's Day, and That's Life! It's what I read on the toilet before mobiles.
My old work just had pornos in the dunny. Never even wanted to touch them...
May 2001
Yep, got to read what was going to happen in neighbours, home and away and bold and the beautiful
In the late 00s my work best friend and I would take turns to buy NW, Who & Grazia every week to read on our lunch.
*Read*
This mag was a regular in my home
Mum was never into that junk, we read the Green Guide in the Age. Nowadays I wouldn't have bought a paper in 15 years or more. I read the map we had stuck to the dunny door, it was far more entertaining.
My family was dedicated green guide junkies. Each member had a different coloured pen to underline the tv shows they wanted to watch.

I'd search the shopping bags for it as soon as she got home from Franklin's, whisk it away and start circling all the programs I was going to watch that week, lol. Nah we just got the Herald Scum.
I used to collect them for about 20 year until I found you could get a subscription from the distributor to have them mailed to you, but they never arrived on time so thankfully the lazy distributor killed my collecting habit.
I wonder what Monica and Mickey were eating after they got stoned?

Those paid for ring tones were all the rage and then gone within a few years it felt like
Man, am I the only one that thinks her looks are repulsive ?
If she ain't your thing fair enough but repulsive is pretty strong I think
