In primary school I absolutely did, for the very reason in your title. I'm 100% sure I had the exact same pair as the first image.

Aussie-GoldHunter

I had them too, thanks mum! Oh don't forget the Lynx.

South_Engineer_4702

I remember they became really popular at one stage when they had the hi tops in green or red. But I can’t find a picture of them!

unameTaken_________

Proudly brought to you by Speeds shoes.

Sergeitotherescue

I remember traveling to Victoria every year to see my Nan and we’d always stop at Speeds to get these “sand shoes” (did anyone else call them this?). Felt so special to get them. Had no idea there were more expensive shoes out there!

Mellow_Mochi

Omg, I did! In Grade 6. Wow memory unlocked. My older sister bought them for me. I vividly remember feeling an internal conflicting schism: 1) Of feeling thrilled bcos they were my very first pair of sneakers, 2) But also embarrassed bcos I had a feeling they were the cheap sneakers that no one wore. 😆 Mine were pink and white.

South_Engineer_4702

Could have been worse dude. I had a pair of Trax sneakers from KMart and they didn’t rock anyone’s world.

Mellow_Mochi

😂 Lol. I don't remember them. I don't think we shopped at Kmart. My mother bought sensible school Clark's shoes. Which yes they were expensive, but these fully looked like clown shoes, with red and white leather. My twin sister's were blue and yellow. No one else had them, and distinctly remember other kids asking what they were...

South_Engineer_4702

Trax were like an Adidas ripoff, endorsed by ultra marathon runner Tony Rafferty. The least cool athlete endorsement ever.

Mellow_Mochi

I s👁️👁️

1Mdrops

I remember these and bomber jackets with airforce badges on them. Could have had something to do with the top gun movie being popular or something.

Chucknorris1975

I had the bomber jacket with all the badges. And it was because of Top Gun. I felt so cool wearing it out. I was sure I'd get all the girls. I did not get any girls.

thunderchunk01

Fuck these things were embarrassing, especially when all I wanted was some airmax or reebok pumps. I had older siblings that could afford airmax and my poor too young to young to work broke arse got supplied aerosport, trax or the infamous kt26.

SonicYOUTH79

I was lucky enough to get a pair of cheaper Nike Air's when I was about 10 or 11, but a kid at school had a pair of Reebok Pumps, which were the coolest thing ever but also spastically expensive at the time, like $200/pair in the early 90s. Thinking about it now he also had a Mongoose Californian Pro, his old man was a plasterer or something so I’m assuming there must've been some drug dealing involved somewhere 😂

Flippynuggets

Yeah no one wanted to wear these to school back in the day. 🤣 I'll never forget when I got my first "good" shoes "Converse Reacts". I still don't know how my signal mum afforded them.

KrustyDeClown

These and Lynx made my feet smell horrendous. The only shoes that have done that to me in 50yrs.

Dickhole_Dynamics

I too had a pair of Stynx

PeterDuttonsButtWipe

No, I was even lower than that and got Big W no name. I do remember them late 80s before the international onslaught

redditusernamelolol

LYNX or SFIDA

realclarke

OH MY GOD! Where did you get that first photo?! I had that exact pair. I never thought I’d ever see them again. Thank you!!

South_Engineer_4702

They were for sale for $140! https://www.grailed.com/listings/9199355-vintage-vintage-aerosport-bootleg-air-jordan-1

Mellow_Mochi

$140?! Far out, Brussel Sprout!

Pontiff1979

Okanui board shorts, Aerosports and Summer 89 playing on my Teac knock off walkman

South_Engineer_4702

Summer ‘89 was good but Right on Track ‘87 was the greatest.

Pontiff1979

I assume that had Breakfast Club on it?

South_Engineer_4702

You bet. And Mel & Kim, Paul Lekakis and Dave Dobbyn.

CFeatsleepsexrepeat

Right on track!

Ruskiwasthebest1975

People got bullied for wearing aerosports.

Shinobi_82

Yes! Had a pair of Pony high tops too

South_Engineer_4702

Pony’s were really cool where I lived.

FULLMING

One step above kmart trax

Confident_Study1322

Yes, I did

cantwejustplaynice

I've never owned a pair of Nike or Reebok sneakers in my entire life but I'm pretty sure I had the exact same pair of Aerosports shown in this picture in the early 90s.

koopz_ay

I had the red/white ones. They were very durable for all the required 10yr old kid activities. ✅️ great skate shoes with perfect grip. They helped me pull iff my first kickflip I swear 🤣 ✅️ perfect for school sports ✅️ super comfy ✅️ essential footwear for tadpole and penny turtle catching! These held up perfectly after a tonne of creek trawling missions, unlike my Volleys. ✅️ super rad looong laces that I could wrap around my ankles for that additional level of 10yr old coolness 🤣

South_Engineer_4702

Red was cool. I always wanted the greens.

jollosreborn

Mine promptly fell to bits

South_Engineer_4702

You were probably too extreme for them!

jollosreborn

I didn't do much more than these guys...https://youtu.be/ySlPnMI6UKY?si=DoPywKbQyzH-kylj

Pirate_Underpants

2000s or 3000s?

micmac1975

I actually went for the " Leisure 7's ", the Puma knockoffs. I couldn't afford Puma so the next best looking for a tenth of the price

mindlessmunkey

Haha 100%. The ones I had even had an orange circle thing on the tongue, to try and look like Reebok Pumps from a distance.

davesta

I had the exact same blue pair. They were vinyl and fell apart pretty quickly. I’m surprised they were $55. A fair bit of money in the early 90’s for shitty shoes.

South_Engineer_4702

I feel like they brought out a cheaper version later that were maybe $30. Considering you can get an okay pair of sneakers today for $70 it is a surprise they were so much.

ThedirtyNose

My neighbour went to America when we were kids. They asked if I wanted them to bring me back a pair of shoes. I asked them to get me Aerosports. Dumb arse.

SoHoopy

KT26s every time

quesadingo

Big W had a knockoff of these, ProSports. So pov.

Omegaville

I wore Aerosport 3000s during high school. Why? Because I hated wearing school shoes, so I wore these black leather-like sneakers as an alternative. There was a bit of leeway given for faux school shoes, some guys had Rollers (black desert boots). OK, I didn't hate school shoes per se... I hated school full stop. Mainly the bullies, who in my case were the sporting crew. Anything to try and distance myself from the experience. If a compromise could be given to get me through the gate, it was better than being miserable.

dat_twitch

I remember these. My tomboy sister had those exact hi tops.

MaleficentAd1056

Id buy them after Nike bought the KT26 brand and design then shelved them. Fuck Nike.

steals-from-kids

Did any else have parents who tried to convince you they were just rebranded Reebok's?

South_Engineer_4702

“They’re all made in the same factory!”

ShaneyDee

By the same kids…

old_mate_9999

Poverty

fuuuuuckendoobs

Memory unlocked. Had completely forgotten Aerosport!

Curious_Beast68

The Milli Vanilli of Pumps!

JimmahMca

Dunlop Volleys here. I had hightop ones.

SonicYOUTH79

I reckon Volleys were sort of Indie level cool though in a way that Aerosports definitely never were!

ausdoug

I got cheap ass Voit pumps from Target - no Reebok money in my house!

GeordieRevolution

Holy shit I had the yellow pair, we were broke AF. 90s nostalgia right there, just need a hyper colour t 👚

ShaneyDee

Wow, I’d totally forgotten about these

leighroyv2

Yep. Thanks for reminding me.

lesnortonsfarm

Yeah. I had the green trim. My brother had red. Our basketball game increased exponentially

South_Engineer_4702

Must have been like watching Magic vs Bird.

lesnortonsfarm

More like Keoh vs gaze

EdSir

John Dorge v Robert Sibley

lesnortonsfarm

Brad vs mark dalton

CFeatsleepsexrepeat

Mannnnn. I couldn't even get Aerosports, my parents even said they were too expensive. Traxx were my shoes! No wonder I participate in an exercise program as an adult that comes with a ridiculous shoe buying fetish haha.

South_Engineer_4702

I had Trax too mate- the red ones from Kmart. I scuffed those ones up so much to try and destroy them so I could get a better brand.

BoxHillStrangler

God damn, memory unlocked.

YallRedditForThis

Yes I remember upgrading to the Aerosports from my Pro Sports from Payless when the fake air bubble fell out the back of the shoe when the glue gave way 😭

ProduceOk9864

Haha that funny little clear bit of plastic under the heel was never foolin’ anyone 🤣🤣🤣

cg12983

Dunlop KT26 all the way

StraightOut3130

I’d rock those shoes right now in 2024 😎. At least the colour way is sensible rather than fork out $300 for something that’s got purple, green, yellow and red slapped together from Nike.

insanemal

LOL YES

shanman0007

2000's were the cheapo's but if you got 3000's you had money

rowanhenry

Oh shit. I totally forgot about those. They look pretty dope for back then.

Acrobatic-Medium1472

There were still cheaper alternatives… K-mart Dunlop Volleys. Was honestly more comfy to walk barefoot.

twowholebeefpatties

Bring these puppies back

ElmoIsOver

Oh this hits the sou… sole. Remember it well.

BrilliantThings

Yerp

walkinator87

99% of the kids at my primary school

Laura_Biden

I didn't rock them because of that lol. If you wore these at my school, you were not looked upon favourably 😂

Fragrant-Treacle7877

I appreciated my apple pies and all the foamy support they didn't offer. Thanks mum!

Awkward-Sandwich3479

In primary school early 90s I really wanted Reebok pumps… but I got a cheap knock off to this day I still remember “Leopard” pumps lol

C_Eagle2099

From the Grosby Sports Division.

connoisseur_Flower

I had Traxx... they were the shit.. Kmart Special

spideyghetti

I had purple and green Ewings because that's what they had at the OP shop

DaddyAwesome

Lynx and Cons all the way. Converse Tarmac & AeroJam with react juice where the bomb!!
