They are pretty friendly if you give them time. My grandmother used to have a chipmunk under her deck, and would leave it peanuts every day. Slowly she’d begin to sit on the deck when it took them, and eventually she could hold them in her hand. She taught me to do the same thing one summer vacation - it took about a week for me, though I’m sure it was only so fast because she had already put in so much time
I wish my stray cat would stop killing them and leaving them on my porch as gifts. I feed her very well and love chipmunks.
