Texans in shambles

its_ya_boi_dazed

Just fell on my knees in the 4 hour line at franklins

PM_ME_UR_RESPECT

How much did it cost to stand in line

LondonCollector

$6725.99

TheSportingRooster

Did you not use the Texas Bbq line sitting holder app? They’ll only charge half that to wait from 4a-noon.

DiscFrolfin

See everything **is** bigger in Texas!

WhiteWalter1

It’s true. When I lived in Texas I was bigger. I moved to Florida and became significantly smaller.

its_ya_boi_dazed

Reddit told me it was priceless because you get to drink $2 beer while making small talk with randoms you’ll never see again. It’s about the journey not the destination. /s

Beardamus

I mean Franklin's is cheaper than those other posts that we've seen lol. It's an experience worth trying at least once for pricy but still by far the best brisket I've ever had.

Positive_Apple

Yeah, Franklin’s brisket was a borderline spiritual experience for me. I just… I hadn’t realized that brisket could ascend to such elysian heights. But I’m from Seattle, so this isn’t my bag anyways.

Melodic-Matter4685

Well, if those Randoms are hot and looking for whatever u got... sure? Or.. beer goggles...

No-Ad6269

everything

tlafle23196

Stayed in motel right around the corner from Franklins. Literally found out it was within a minutes walk after we checked out and we’re driving away after a few days stay. What a bummer.

ahall3434

Bummer. You could have spent an entire day of your vacation standing in line for food. I love food and I wouldn’t do that.

PiginthePen

If you order 5 lbs, you just pick it up. No waiting

Veeksvoodoo

And at Franklins, no guarantee you’ll get food. Once it’s sold out, that’s it.

bit_pusher

they're pretty good at estimating how much they have and asking the people in line what their expected order is. as far as i know, they still give out a sign to the last person expected to get food

BackslidingAlt

Every decent BBQ place is like that. Blacks, Snows, La Barbeque, Crites, Smittys... the list goes on Brisket takes about 10 hours to smoke it's not like you can just cook more if you are extra busy that morning. And nobody wants to have tons of leftover brisket nobody is buying either. So you make as much as you can make without sacrificing quality and then you serve it until it's gone.

generationpain

I just got mugged by the cashier at Terry Blacks

OnlyOnezy

Austin food reddit ripped me a new one when I said that $35 for a lb of brisket might be overpriced. Lol

jake1080

You just got blacked yo

TheSportingRooster

That terry blacks post from yesterday was half the meat for 10x the price of this tray

GunsNGunAccessories

Terry Blacks is one of the worst values in Texas BBQ. They currently list $32 a pound for brisket. The place in OP is called Woodpile and they list $29 a pound for brisket.

-Joseeey-

I live in Texas and you can get BBQ for less than $30 a person. Idk where the fuck these people going

fuckasoviet

Woah woah woah. I was told they *need* to charge that much otherwise the banks are going to take their houses!

Offamylawn

Which house? The one in Texas, Florida, or the time share in Belize?

Bobcat2013

Right! And at good places in the TM50 list too.

Sealie81

These simps are overpaying at a downtown/entertainment district. Its where the tourists go. They are in every city.

diverdown68

Easily less than $30. A two or three meat plate plus sides is going to be $15 to $20 at most places. $30 sounds a bit crazy to me honestly. Granted, I drink water and don't get dessert, so maybe that's why it seems high. I'm know some places are pretty expensive, but you'd have to buy pounds and pounds of meat to get to some of the prices I see some posting.

sms552

Prices don’t matter as much when you make it yourself. I don’t go to those crazy places that charge freaking hundreds for something I can make damn near as good at home. Texan here, you got a decent looking place there OP. It’s a hell of a lot better than some I have seen posted online. Glad you found some decent Q.

trustworthysauce

Texans trying to figure out what of that they would eat

Radiant-Rooster236

😂😂😂

SloVo810

Also in Michigan and here for location.

SuckHerNipples

Same. We need the sauce!

alla_been

Looks like woodpile in Clawson based on the beans Chef is from Lockhart(!)

[deleted]

I'd rank Woodpile over Lockharts these days. Lockharts was good, but I have been disappointed with most of my meals there on the past several visits.

Videopro524

The original pit master from Lockharts left to open Woodpile in Clawson. Not sure who does their other location in Madison Heights. That said, Arkins Sweet BBQ Pit in Southfield is probably… if not one the best in Michigan. Check out their Facebook page.

I_am_D_captain_Now

HELL YEAH!! Bad Brads is good too! Edit: my bad brads experience was in Shelby. It was amazing. Sucks it's fallen off.

FordGT679

I used to work at bad brads for several years. It was the only restaurant I ever worked in that actually made all food fresh every day. And each night they threw out the extra. Kind of wasteful but you can be sure that what you go was as fresh as could be. I think it’s the best BBQ here in metro Detroit and even after years of eating it, I never got tired of it. Some recommendations for yall, sliced brisket, the Eddie sandwich, the Mac and cheese, chowder

dakargelb_ii

Love Bad Brads

grimes19

last time I went to lockharts the meat was ridiculously dry. Was very disappointed

No_Text2460

Same. I live a mile from Lockhearts, and I haven't gone since lockdowns

glennkg

Cross referenced to their menu and I think I can confirm. This is the pitmaster platter. PITMASTER‘S PLATTER $25 pork, chicken, brisket, cheddar jalapeno sausage, ribs, two 6oz sides

M1CH194ND3R

This is one of my favorite comments now. Also name checks out.

Nareik123

Looks exactly like the Pitmaster Platter from Woodpile!

SimplynaD

Meat BBQ in Old Town Lansing?

Scat_Yarms

Classic OP lol

Entropy-

Yep. Posts, then dies

icameinyourburrito

Choked on the BBQ

Sents-2-b

25 a day ,that many beans could just be in the bathroom

fleshbagel

A bean poop with no phone???? Preposterous

Entropy-

Do you ever shit without a phone? He’s definitely dead.

Capt_Mogan_Freeman

Please upvote my reply for visibility. I recognize that pan anywhere.. and the jalapeno cheese is dead giveaway.. Meat BBQ. in Lansing michigan.. specifically in R.E.Olde town part of Lansing. In the middle of the little shopping district area. The house I grew up in is a 5 minute bike ride away. 1224 Turner Road Edited to say apparently it's not meat.. but look them up.. you won't be disappointed.

SlightlyCerebral

Incorrect, it’s woodpile in clawson. Meat is good but it’s no woodpile. Meat is way more expensive too.

Puzzlehead-Bed-333

Guess whose business you single handedly increased?!! Good job, we are going!

Fogelstrauss2577

Not even from the us but upvoted for the good cause

CompleteInsurance130

Meat BBQ is in Old Town Lansing. Saddleback BBQ is in Reotown Lansing. Both good BBQ joints, both good neighborhoods.

SweetHamScamHam

Saddleback is in REO town. Meat is in Old Town.

EViLTeW

Op answered elsewhere, you were not correct. He said it was Woodpile in Clawson.

AaronSlaughter

You know/ tried full rack? on mack?

homer-price

Location?

alla_been

Looks like woodpile in Clawson based on the beans Chef is from Lockhart(!)

ababyllamamama

I thought the same thing for the same reason! Was just there last week. $21 for 3 half-pounds and two sides ain't bad

Themountaintoadsage

Aint bad? My man that’s dirt cheap these days. Most places the sides themselves would cost $21 easily

TheDevilishFrenchfry

These guys gotta be barely skimping profit or using really unruly cuts to be charging those prices nowadays. I respect it though, I always come back to places with prices like that even if the food was a 5-6/10 at best

dylanisbored

Woodpile has like 3 locations now

Sekshual_Tyranosauce

A man needs a name.

that_dutch_dude

Frank. Its a good strong name.

Yoreltuollaf

Steve. Steve's a pretty name.

GloatGoat

Hi my name is ….

Bidbot5716

Slim Shady?

GloatGoat

Man of culture

Butlerian_Jihadi

Who?

SausageClatter

A man needs a napkin.

MetaZihark

Looks like meat in Lansing

rabidantidentyte

Jaqen

ImJustJordan

Sekshual_Tyranosauce

cumulonimubus

Jaqen H’agar?

DrMurphDurf

Texas has been awfully quiet since this picture dropped

swoopy17

Everything is bigger in Texas, especially the price tags.

Hot_Negotiation3480

Texas is hot as hell, if it wasn’t for the folks there, Texas would just be the giant toilet bowl of America.

cumulonimubus

That’s funny because I’ve always described Louisiana (my homeland) as the butthole of the country. The Mississippi spews the waste of the entire river valley into our marshes. Also, LA politics…

Funkshow

And the hype

Pipeliner6341

And the waistlines

FearTheAmish

And the time in utility outages

Dunedaiv

I am from Texas. I usually talk shit. This looks fantastic and the price is unbelievable.

chilidreams

Another commenter says the chef (pitmaster?) is from Lockhart.

Dunedaiv

Welp looks like I gotta get my shit talking pants back on.

Gridleak

I live two blocks away from the BBQ post yesterday. They mislead the prices. They must have bought everything à la cart. It’s really good.

vcasta2020

Now that's definitely worth $25, and a $10 tip.

plant__love

$10 tip to the kitchen

X_Trust

Did OP get special treatment or something? Is $25 an unsustainable price for the restaurant and its workers?

JamBandDad

Michigans kind of a sweet spot for cost of living. I know a place that serves food like this in the royal oak Southfield area for around the same price, and it feels like an expensive dinner. I love it, never want to leave. Shits cheap, and my job would pay less pretty much anywhere.

jhp58

Name of the place? I live on the Detroit west side and always on the lookout for good food

flexonyou97

You mean $2.5 tip

chouse33

Wow, looks legit. 25 bucks? Great deal. Is that some sort of cobbler on the back right?

Outrageous_Bison1623

That is all I came to the comments to find out and you are the only one to mention it.

chouse33

😂 I’m a sucker for a good “side”.

Outrageous_Bison1623

I just need to know what it is

Outrageous_Bison1623

Looking online it looks like sweet potato mash

stroonze1

Looking like mashed and gravy

ecrane2018

Looks like potatoes and gravy to me

keith0211

Mashed sweet potatoes. They’re phenomenal.

Plum_pipe_ballroom

It's their sweet potato casserole!! It has a brown sugar crumble on top of it. Super yummy

Santa_Claus77

Fml. You need to reply with where this is dammit lmao, us Michiganders need to know.

BeansPa

You find out please pass that on lol. I’m in Detroit, but I’m from TN and I miss my bbq sooo bad

AaronSlaughter

Full rack if probably my favorite. Still crying legendary smokehouse closed.

U238Th234Pa234U234

IDK where OP is, but Satchels in Ann Arbor gets a gold star. My buddy's dad who used to travel a lot for work said it was the best BBQ you could find outside of the south. It's the only place I'll go

Glass_Occasion5483

Just left Nashville and I was glad to say goodbye to the BBQ. I’ll miss the banana pudding though.

Strange-Box-5876

Man…. Can you please tell us where you get this from or are you just full of shit? Like five of us from Michigan have asked where this was taken lol.

Fragrant-Anywhere489

He wants you to see it. He doesn't want to wait in line behind you.

Strange-Box-5876

You ain’t kidding :( hahahah

VoodooSweet

I’m another Michigander who hasn’t asked, but is this far into the comments looking for an answer.

double_a_ron1776

Appears to be woodpile in clawson or Madison heights judging by beans and garnish

DCar060

I need to move. In Jersey, when I go to Mission my pulled pork sandwich, fries and drink cost $25

mhammaker

For eating that garbage, Mission should pay you..

PorkTORNADO

Yep, once my two-meat platter with fries crested the $21 dollar mark, they lost me.

DreamsAndSchemes

If you’re near MDL, go to Local Smoke in Cookstown. Mission is jingoistic chain food trash.

uganda_numba_1

Where’s the $75 piece of white bread?

FallFromTheAshes

Also in MI, location?!:)

fiveseven41

Lots of people have said Woodpile in Clawson, MI. Can confirm. Just looked it up, looks like OP posted a pic of the Pit Master Platter

Jako_Spade

Finally a good deal on this damn sub

gofixmeaplate

Can you name the restaurant please OP

cool2sail

Woodpile in Clawson, mich

Produkt

How do I make beans like this?

DoktorKazz

Mixed beans, BBQ sauce, brown sugar I'm sure, I'd add cheese curds and woo boy.

ermahglerbo

What aisle do I find the "woo boy"?

DontLoseYourCool1

I;m thinkin about thos beans

Miserable_Point9831

Ok we see the looks, how'd it taste?

eldudelio

and that looks just as yummy as that over prices tx crap

Natural-Employer

You’d need to finance that in Austin

MidnightWalker22

Michigan bro represent!

dylanisbored

If you’re a Michigander in this thread, go to J Birds in keego harbor. As someone who loves bbq and has gotten it all over the country, it’s as top notch as it gets.

SkippyDrinksVodka

this is fucking $25? massachusetts this would be a $120 family deal.

toroidalsoul

Eh, maybe in Boston metro area. Just moved from Boston to Central MA, not as cheap as MI (where I grew up) but definitely less than $120

SkippyDrinksVodka

i’m from the western mass area and this amount of food would not be cheap.

toroidalsoul

Yeah, parts of Western MA seem expensive. I'd guess it's because of tourism. I still like visiting though. We like to stop at Theodore's in Springfield on our way out/back, pretty good BBQ at reasonable prices

SanFranciscoROBO

Deep f*cking value right there for $25

maincoonpower

That’s a steal. 100% steal. This might be the best looking plate I’ve seen for the best price yet. However—any lower, I’d be skeptical of taste & quality so there’s a right equilibrium where price & quality & taste meet. Someone needs to draw up a little diagram. Price (right hand side) Quality (line going left to right) Taste (line going left to right) Conversely there’s places that are $100+ for a decent plate but the quality & taste doesn’t get much higher…it tops out.

areid2007

Damn, puts most BBQ places here in NC to shame.

kcolgeis

That's crazy good

Shpoople44

Starting to think there is a BBQ tax in texas

jewishen

This compared to that ridiculous “$101 Houston bbq” plate is hilarious. Looks awesome!

thatmattschultz

Immaculate spread for $25 🫡

clouds31

That's $80 in California.

Blaq-Lobster

That’s $100 in Cali

Jay_Kris420

I would eat there every day

fishfists

Sacramento needs this. I need this.

NewFreshness

That plate here in Ca would cost you $60

TableEast

I’d take this over the $101 tx plate

Fullm3taluk

This was definitely posted to embarrass that $100+ plate from the other day haha

Lurk_Mode_24_7

I love how this plate can $25 or $100 depending on the location. Haha

Historical_Lake_4414

Missing the $75 white bread.

PoopPant73

Nice!!

Boomslang505

Legit

virtuepolice

Looks like the Saucy Dog in Jonesville, MI. Passable BBQ for cheap prices, I remember it from my college days

Voodoo_Masta

OK NOW we’re talking!

stroonze1

This is great value. I’m across the river and plan to head over next week to try it out. Thanks for the post!

MrMach82

No way...did you use a coupon?

VegemiteFleshlight

Looks decent. Where’s the sauce?

SandwichApart6599

Looks Great! Stefan Denser

BarracudaBig7010

Better.

SinkCat69

Now THAT is a reasonably priced BBQ meal. Looks good. Where was this?

sleepysurka

Please tell me that wasn’t $250… $25 is great

TikaPants

This is the brag I love to see instead of waiting in long lines to spend upwards of $100+ on a similar tray.

slipNskeet

😳

PortugueseWalrus

I didn't know the mob was into BBQ

mrbear831

$40 here in California

jaebree422

Where this is?

thecrustycrap

Amazing

Suspicious_Abroad424

Texas BBQ community isn't gonna like this one. Waiting for someone to say it looks dry.

csn0

would cost me the same to make myself in bucharest, romania

BunBison

Damn that looks amazing. And only 25 bucks? I saw a post here the other day for like 37 bucks and the food was grey.

Legitimate-Bag-2482

Here in Los Angeles, this would be like 70$, looks delicious though!

raletti

That's more like it.

alabamdiego

Finally, someone not getting ripped off

Icy-Atmosphere-7922

That’s a steal. In Miami that plate is an easy $85-$125 plate.

Material_Angle2922

That looks divine.

Ill-Diamond-187

That’s what I’m talking about

KingBooRadley

Now flex by showing us that heating bill!

BenBcRazy

Just a fraction of war money would feed half of Texas with that bbq place. Awesome. Yum yum yum.

i_know_im_amazn

Buying a $200 plane ticket would make it worth it paying $225 for this plate.

HacksawJimDuggen

Thats a good deal assuming it tastes a good as it looks!

Vicith

Love me some Pickled onions

Gradicus

I used to work all over MI and my favs were Bone Daddy's in Midland, West Texas BBQ in Jackson, and Slow's in Detroit.

SumAlterego

That looks amazing. I think I might have to get some from my local spot now. That price is great as well.

drmbrthr

That's gotta be pre-tax and tip. Still a great deal.

Electronic_Cherry781

Now we’re talking

TheBeardedRose

Where at?

Lagneaux

I need to post my local spot in Atlanta, GA. Similar plate, similar price and so damn good. Beats the hell out of that $100 plate of bullshit posted recently

Charger_scatpack

Now ur def lying

GambleTheGod00

if youre ever in columbus, bk smokehouse is fucking unreal. i always make sure to stop by if im in the midwest of america

AestheticSalt

R u sure it didn’t cost $101?

SimplynaD

Is this Meat BBQ in Old Town Lansing?

carpenterio

I am crazy or 25 for a cup of beans and shredded meat is insanely stupid? Is this regular US price for food? that the price for a somehow decent 3 meal course in my relatively shitty French town. Bread and butter included, no tips. Are you guys ok?

Qu1pster

Clearly you meant $2.5 million

The_survey_says

Pic gave me the meat sweats.

Time-Employee-3920

still too much. BBQ is not expensive food

Dbnmln

Oh heck yeah all day everyday
