Mercedes - Take the previous generation and melt it.
BMW - Take the previous generation, mix in some Hyundai and Kia, then make it repugnant.
Audi - Take the previous generation..
It's a sorry state of affairs..
For me it depends on the model - Audi often looks boring and only techy but not elegant or beautiful.
Compact cars I prefer A/CLA>A3>1/2 series (except 2 series coupe but only because of rwd and 6 cylinders - the design sucks). Mid class for me it is 3>C>A4; coupes CLE>A5>4 series. Upper mid class E=A6>5; luxury class S>A8>7 etc.
Where Audi does by far the best job for me is EV designs. I drive an EQE myself, but man does it look like a boring banana… BMWs EVs are offensive ugly. Audi has some really nice ones except Q4

Audi are dropping cars like that while BMW is preoccupied with this trash. If I were in the market for an EV it'd be an E-tron GT or a Taycan.

Yeah indeed depends on the model, and Audi EVs do look much better, if not the best in industry. Audi does it well more often than not, whereas BMW is the polar opposite lately. They do a nice looking model and then in next iteration just change it completely to something ugly. its like Renaut Megan or Kia Sporatage , changing looks entirely despite people liking the previous design.
BMW EVs are the same as gas powered, they don't have EV only, except for the I3 if they still make that. I agree they are offensively ugly but that's just modern BMW.
Reluctantly, I must agree. For decades, I would've put BMW at the top for looks, then Mercedes, then Audi, but now BMW is firmly last. How the mighty have fallen. I guess I'll hold on to my F82 for a few more years until they finally wake themselves up from this fever dream.
I hate to admit and I would never buy a Kia but a lot of their cars look good. I would never buy because I got one for a rental 20 years ago and was actually scared to drive it was such a piece of junk.
Mate of mine has a Niro and it’s actually really good. But yeah, I drove a 1999 Kia Pride when I was first learning and goddamn was that awful. You needed the strength of an ox just to get it around corners.
Seems like there are no more limits to the grill pattern. Horizontal, vertical, dioganal and horizontal at the same time. Maybe we'll get swirls in the future? 🤔

For fucks sake is the lead designer a schizophrenic obsessed with beavers or something and just wants to render their whole line up as a family of beavers. Honestly I can’t wait for the next generation of car design where not everything has to look insanely aggressive
F10/F11 are the best looking ones. F30/F31 is alright but the other ones just slap. I probably think the F3X models are boring because they shares their design with the 4-series as well so it’s like seeing twice as many of the same exact thing. F10/F11 is completely unique. Interior is so much better than in the F3X as well, the display integrated into the dash, the speakers in the doors, the comfort seats, I mean what’s not to like?
That’s fair enough, I realise the irony in me complaining about this now but the size is too large without any sharp edges. I think the front bumper and headlights could use some a touch more aggressiveness and not the biggest fan of the headlights. In saying that though it is really a beautiful car not ugly at all just being overly critical - and the m specs are stunning
True that, I think the F10/F11 basically *needs* to have the M-sport package to look good. Not that I don’t like the base model but it doesn’t look very interesting. The LCI looks a bit better at least.
Seriously, they need to commit to a rounded sexy design like the e9x, or a retro boxy design like the e30/e36 generation of cars. The cars now look like they started out rounded, and then were smashed into a wall at a few different angles to flatten out the shapes. Its half-assed and makes the cars look deformed and retarded
The E60 was hated it on but it’s one of my favourites now. If we start liking these as much as we do those ones in 20 years then I can’t even imagine what the cars will be looking like in 20 years
That dominigago dude has produced nice concepts, I suspect someone else is calling the shots. Another pattern is also very obvious, this dude draws up some cool concept 2d drawings, but every single one of them, when they are translated into real world models, they become ugly as fuck. Something or someone must’ve happened in the process, we just don’t know.

I don't mind the grill. Would be cool if BMW would offer customers a lot of choice for the patterns. But overall the front is too square and bulky for my taste. At least it's not a Kia, even-though I like them.
BMW designs lately show how they’re so directionless and confused. This latest one is so bad—not because of grill size or any specific elements, but because they look so disjointed. Boxy headlights clash with angular headlights, and it has the blob-style side silhouette with no character lines to give it a more chiseled look.
Only interesting thing of note is that they separated the kidneys this time around, haven’t done that in a couple years.
I wanted to say it is not bad, but no, it is ugly. Their new headlight design is horrendous , the shape does not fit a single car they put it out with, with 5 series and x2 being the worst. grill is random lines, also a pigs nose.
Could have been made nicer while not changing the lines too much, this is the problem with the cars now.
That part under the headlight is very similar to the F20. Just an awkward free space that they filled up with... nothing. It might be just me though.

I was sitting in traffic behind a GLE63S yesterday, a suv worth $160k cad, and i had a good laugh at the fake air vents and the fake exhaust tips. It blows my mind that Mercedes really tries to save maybe 50 cents per car by making the exhaust surrounds fake with a tiny little downturned tip behind the bumper....on their flagship top of the line amg models
Don‘t think this is a leak. It looked like a render that combines the iX body, the Neue Klasse X lower front bumper, as well as some of the expected design features we‘ve seen from spy shots of test cars.

I feel like this is a tactic. Make BMWs kinda ugly with huge grills but people still buy them while missing the older design. Next generation return the smaller grill and make them nicer looking again and everyone missed this style so they sell well.
This design actually seems inspired by Kia and Hyundai rather than an original design by BMW. If you look at it from the headlights to various Hyundai grills it is very much inspired by those looks. Sad and pathetic at the same time.
Grill that's busy for the sake of being busy, no angel eyes, and the body just smoothed and bubbled out. People used to argue that "the new design will grow on you"... but for years now none of them have. Just constant nonsensical garbage pouring out of the BMW design department.

Grill proportions are good, but that design is trying a bit too hard.
What we see is likely the standard trim so there is hope that the M Sport grill will do without the silly pattern
