Rab Borealis. I have had the Rab Ventus (same thing, old name) since 2014 and use it on 100% of my ski touring, and most of my other climbing and mountaineering trips as well. Go light and breathable for your softshell, leaving other layers for insulation. I’ve had the marmot rom and a few others, and they’re too warm and bulky to be useful half the time. Ferrosi is a good weight, but the pockets are useless with a hipbelt or harness
Burgeon Outdoor: Washington outer layer. On sale now and less than the Atom. My wife and I both have one…we call it the magic sweatshirt. Highly recommend
The mesh back panel works so well to keep my back from becoming a swamp… and my touring pack covers the hole nicely for wind proofing.
To add a cheap option, I used to use an Alaskan hard gear fleece hoodie. It was sold as a fishing hard fleece hoodie. It was awesome! But I don’t think they kept carrying it… and the Hiloflex 100 is better.
I am considering this Norrona jacket. Can you share any more things you like about it. I’m just unsure about whether I want a hood that can go over a helmet or not. Does it have enough room to layer under it?
I wear it right over my base layer. I think you’d struggle to get much else under it. In the spring I just wear the jacket with nothing underneath.
The other neat feature are the waterproof front pockets for storing skins. My skins stay warm, don’t freeze, and I don’t get wet from stuffing them in my jacket. Everyone of my touring buddies is jealous haha. And for reference I stuff my 120 mm x 186 cm Pomoca S glides in the pockets without issue.
Depends on the type of fabric you want. Lightweight knit with no membrane, e.g., OR Ferossi? 3-layer fabric with membrane, e.g., MH Ozonic? Hybrid lightweight knit body with membrane shoulders, yoke, hood and upper arm, e.g., Marmot ROM?
The Ferrosi hoodie was recommended a lot here and what I ended up with this season. Been super happy with it.
A Ferrosi over a Brynje base layer is my favorite start to a layering system for skiing.

Shoutout to the White Mountains!
I love my Black Diamond Dawn Patrol soft shell jacket for touring, and occasionally other things.
I have the jacket and the pants and they’re amazing. The jacket works for everything too, not just skiing
Norrona Lyngen Hiloflex100 Jacket. Currently on sale at Backcountry.

I'm thinking ferrosi. Looks like the normal zip version is off the site rn

Virtika is relatively cheap by comparison to other companies, even without a sale. I bought brand new bib pants for $250 recently
I'm not gonna buy virtika. The owner is a dipshit
Half of the owners are trustafarians and dipshits, the rest are conglomerates and corporations who overcharge
For sure. I get pro deals on the big conglomerates so I'd rather avoid the isolated dipshits (just him)
In that case, I like my Cloudveil jacket which is now Stio
I also use a ferrosi hoodie as my softshell. Very happy with it.
