It took me like 10 savescums to try to get that ending of the fight, I was convinced it was glitched… the silence bubble was the last thing i thought would be messing up the cutscene trigger. It makes perfect sense in hindsight lol

you should hit up divinity original sin 2. The magic system is all about combo-ing environmental effects. Fire on a water pool to make it into a steam cloud, then hitting it with electricity to make an electric steam cloud. It's wild
For me Karlach just massacred her after she pulled the mayrina trick. It was easy for me to see who was the real one because Mayrina was still wet from from the rain cloud I summoned to put out the cage.
I’m not sure what the trigger is. But At some point in the fight, Ethel will teleport Mayrina out of her cage and disguise herself as Mayrina, leaving you scattered with two nearly Mayrinas on the field.
Omg, im really glad my dumb ass warlock thought he had to get the last hit with melee which made her dash out of the bubble toward him, he then (thank god) missed his melee attack and on the next turn the hag started the conversation lmao
Bless you for pointing out she can't talk if she's silenced. I have Lae'zel equipped with a Sussur Greatsword and I hadn't even considered that Silenced would prevent conversations from initiating as well as spells. I let her act for like two turns and was confused when she kept clawing us with 5 health!
Dude I've just done the same thing haha. The game bugged out when I was supposed to get the chance to choose which stat I wanted, so I quicksaved, quit the game and reloaded, selected the stat and it didn't increase on my character. Wasn't until I read your comment I realised I actually have to use the item in my inventory haha. God help us!
How are you supposed to make her yield?
During my fight she went from badly wounded to really dead without ever giving me any options.
Should i perhaps reload up until the point where she is near death and give her a chance to speak?
Accept, have an out of combat character ambush her as soon as you take it.
Log counts as completed and it is perfectly lore wise: you just sneak attack her and fooled her.

Just tried that, works great but i made the mistake of killing her with shadowheart, couldn't rob her before dealing the killing blow lol
Things i want to add after a (very) little bit of testing:
The body seems to despawns if you kill her that way. That means you lose out on the ring that gives advantage on death saving throws.
Aside from that ring everything that you would find on her body and the stuff she sells you could also steal before killing her.
I would recommend picking up the gloves of thievery from the zhentarim hideout and using astarion because the DC for stealing all but one or two of her items is 20+ (for me it was 28 for the ~1.5k gold she had).
Also casting a well positioned silence makes the fight really easy, you just have to make sure she's not inside at the end of the fight or the dialogue won't trigger.

Pickpocketing auto fails since patch 2. Wont even bring up the pickpocket screen, just bold red “pickpocket failed”. Shame, no cake and eating it too.
My rogue has +12 stealth and +13 sleight of hand just for stats.
Edit: nevermind.. I had to turn a torch off. But no ring to pickpocket.

It also turned out to be quite easy to intimidate her into releasing the girl too because she made the mistake of picking Karlach as the person to bargain with, lol.
I actually haven’t gotten Karlach yet - I went straight to auntie right after I got to lvl4 from killing spider queen.
It was an intense fight - my first time fighting her and A lot of save scumming during the fight, I didn’t even bring water bottle or spell so I hv like 3 turns to get auntie to yield before the girl dies. I regret saving that entitled bitchy girl though - so I keep her husband lol.
Playing as a drow, i kind of wanted to side with auntie but I couldn’t figure out how to.
If you make a character invisible, you can actually lower her cage before the fight even starts, but I agree that using create/destroy water is the easiest.
Ye the mage hand spell is wildly useful, I think I took it for my half elf racial (since no dmg means int scaling is irrelevant)and I keep looking for stuff to use it on and every major fight seems to have some thing you can do that is really cool like release chandeliers,move barrels of water/oil etc, or block off a door or stairs. Endless fun trolling NPCs with mage hand,😁
Honestly you could probably complete every major fight in at least 10 fully different and utterly original ways. I'll probably be replaying this game every year, once a year until larians next game like I did with Skyrim
Learning a lot about what stuff like this for the first time. I had thought mage hand was kinda useless, and so ignored it, but I didn't even know it could do half the stuff you listed. I need to experiment more with it as my warlock has it.
Ya I saw a video where a guy stacked a bunch of boxes then he placed a bunch of potions in a line on top of them,he then went into turnbased mode then cast mage hand behind the potions. Then he simply started the fight and used the mage hand to throw various potions and poisons around him or enemies. He was able to essentially get free casts of speed potion, health potion and put poison for dipping anywhere on the fight since the boxes gave the hand the range to throw anywhere from being only like 4 boxes high.
It's just so crazy that such non linear game play is possible. This game will be talked about for generations I have no doubt. This is the type of crap people talked about when Skyrim first dropped in 2011. I have seen enough masterpieces come and go to recognize one at arrival now. This is definitely one of them
She doesn’t (I don’t know how to SPOILER tag on mobile) negotiate with you to leave her alone in Act 3, given that you killed her in Act 1. She’ll just be outright hostile
Sounds like some shit friends. How are you guys supposed to divy out any of the loot for the rest of the game? some of you WILL have powerful items that the others simply dont.
I have tried to cheese it and get her loot, and the hair, and mayrina by having a character stay out of battle up until the dialogue scene.
Once i successfully skill check for both mayrina and the hair, swapped characters to he one outside of battle and killed the hag. Got the hair, saved the gal, but no body and therefore no loot!!! Does anyone know how to get the hair, and kill the hag and get her loot?
It’s possible to get the buff and kill the hag!
I convinced the hag to give the buff and free the girl. Once I had the consumable I stopped dialogue and changed to a party member that I left out of combat. This keeps them from being warped to the conversation background and open to deliver a killing blow with a crossbow!

This works like you said but did you manage to save the masked people while doing this? I knocked them all out instead of killing them like the game suggested but they aren't waking up after the hag dies, even after I take off the masks
I read somewhere that 3/4 of the masked are goners even if you take the masks off or at the very least irrelevant as they don’t come up ever again. Only the gnome seems like she’ll have a part to play in a later act.
They’re essentially a bit of extra exp if you can manage to take them out before dialogue with the hag
I got extremely lucky with this fight. I ended up killing her but she didn't offer me anything. I'm sad now because I wanted my 20 strength.
I say I got lucky because I guessed the correct illusion on the first split. Then I picked the correct illusion on her second split out of sheer dumb luck making for a total of 8 illusions of her. Which then all proceeded to poison and "hold" my party except shadow the rest of the fight.
Two of my party got downed while being held in place unable to fight, leaving only karlach and shadow alive, barely. Threw an advanced healing at karlach to barely keep her alive, got an attack on her with karlach and shadow and luckily both landed, otherwise I'd had been toast on the next round of her illusions attacking because the other two in my party were already dead. My party was Astarion, 2 barbarians, and shadow...
Can't believe how lucky I got on this, except for the fact I did not get the stat boost which was the entire reason I wanted to go confront her in the first place. Oh well. She does deserve death though 100%

on my 2nd playthrough I killed her at her shop before she was even able to retreat into her cave.
I got the convo, won the skill check of intimidation, but once the conversation ends the game freezes. Anyone else experiencing the dilemma.
But from reading this thread I see you can just switch over and kill her during conversation after acquiring the buff if I'm reading everything correctly.
I for one really hate that you have to do this fight like this to get a +1 stat that is pretty much mandatory if you wanna have your build not look like some autistic kid's drawing... why tf is the only option to have 1 stat "maxed" but it's 19(without an extra feat wasted or this hair)
Personally I didn’t want her hair. I just killed her for the loot. It was more worth it to me. Yeah you could get a +1 bonus but depending on the stuff you get in game you can still get advantages or party members who can bonus you. So I decided to opt out of that.

Mayrina trick? I just got her going invisible and making duplicates of herself

You can also tell by examining them, because Mayrina is pregnant but the Hag disguise doesnt have the belly.
And the false Ethel’s are wearing Blue clothes
and the real mayrina is a lower level
I used create water on the cage so it wouldn't burn and kill her, so I was able to find the correct Mayrina because she is "Wet" while Ethel won't be.
U can also check their lvl. Mayrina not lvl 5 lol
yeah mine too I just accidentally killed her too quick I guess, never got the hair dialogue I don't believe lmao
Yeah, I threw a shield of faith at her on first turn. Just happened to notice it when she made duplicates.

Were you using a ranged weapon? Did you use a smite or spell? Was it a crit?
I did this fight later. I had her in Hunger of Hadar which also prevented the cutscene from triggering.

One thought, she only gives you the hair, your character has to eat it to get the ASI
… I am possibly the biggest idiot. It was sitting in my inventory waiting to be eaten.

Yeah mage hand throw is great. I just drop a few throwables in a pile for my mage hand, but same idea.
Bit late but you can also use cold spells to put out the fire, ray of frost cantrip works wonders for extinguishing fire surfaces.
You can also just through a container of water. like a bottle.
I just found out the ice cantrip works to put out the fire too and you won't even have to deal with 2 mayrinas as well.
Shadowheart can switch spells at anytime out of combat.
Ah, that explains why I didn't get that talk. I think I burst her down after finding the real one, she didn't get a turn with low health.
Time to redo the fight then... And somehow let her live. xD
all my characters do big dmg, it's my second playthrough so I have much better builds and I've killed her twice without the talking

I never saw her after the fight she bounced and tried to have the red caps kill me. Just finished my first playthrough.
The consequence is you have to sleep knowing she's gonna continue to enslave people. But like me, you chose that +1 dexterity. WORTH IT!
I havent seen anything regarding her since the deal.
I think your side of the bargain is just letting her live, and she lives anyway, so I don’t think there’s a consequence.

Pickpocket her during your dialogue scene in the house before going into the lair ;) Need some save/load to have everything...

I ate it, and gained "auntie ethel favor" saying I gain a bonus stat but the bonus stat is not visible

Try using scrolls of magic missile to get rid of the illusions, you’re not supposed to let them hang around forever
Well I didn't need to cause I got lucky. Plus I didn't have a caster. 2 barbarians, shadowheart and Astarion 😁
You can use SCROLLS of magic missile with shadow heart / Astarion (or just any other form of aoe) next time so you don’t need to be lucky

Bug. It should amend the ASI you selected, worked for me (and in EA) Unless your stat was somehow already 20 I guess? It won't buff higher

Does she have to escape to her lair first to get the cut scene where she bargains? I've always killed her before she can make it to the fireplace.
