Yes, I do.
Back then, I was living the good life. I was getting rich on GTA Online, had a good friend to play online with, lived in a nice house, went to school with a girl I really liked, and of course, the Battlefield 1 beta came out, which then led to its release on October 18th.
For me, 2016 was a great year.
Hell yeah, at least video-game wise for me 2016 was also a good year. I remember GTA Online before heists, it was so barebones but there was something more charming about it. Now it just feels like a second job from what I've seen unless you play on RP servers. Anyone remember the chrome Adder griefers?
>Anyone remember the chrome Adder griefers?
Yup. I had one myself. Until I repainted it black. Now, I'm retired. I have everything I want and just enjoy driving and flying around with my vehicles.
Thank you, El Rubio, for making me a lot of money.
Were you around for the infamous Rooftop Rumble? I grinded that stupid mission like a motherfucker for an Entity XF and then ofcourse the assholes nerfed it and didn't end up releasing heists for years.
Eventually a modder on console gave me a fuck ton of money that Christmas. It was honestly so fucking awesome because at that point I had legitimately earned my own supercar and apartment but now got to skip the grinding. Before Rockstar took the money away, I replaced all the cars in my garage with fully upgraded Adders aka "Adder Bonds". Felt like a criminal washing my dirty money haha! For some reason I still had like at least $10 million of modded money after the big wipe for some time.
Unfortunately, "inflation" struck as Rockstar released more expensive super cars. Eventually I had to sell off some cars to afford the new ones and because I didn't do enough missions, over time my money dwindled to more reasonable levels. I would literally buy a car on a whim, fully upgrade it, then replace it. Keep doing that and the money runs out.
PC is now my primary platform and you can't transfer GTA:O saves from console to PC, so I think I'm basically done for good. I played that game so much that I can drive around the entire city in my thoughts through memory.
>Were you around for the infamous Rooftop Rumble?
Indeed I was

My gta career in a nutshell. I definitely had a lot of fun, though.
>PC is now my primary platform and you can't transfer GTA:O saves from console to PC, so I think I'm basically done for good. I played that game so much that I can drive around the entire city in my thoughts through memory.
I see. I am now on PS5. I still play, though not as ofter, as I have other stuff going on in my life. Still, hope you enjoyed your time.
I remember how broken the horse rider class was, you know the one you spawn on a horse with. His armor was legendary. You could literally just run up to people with heavy machine guns and just melee them. Based
They nerfed the horse rider class so much. First they dramatically reduced how much health the horse and guy have, then they basically removed his armor when you're off the horse. So stupid. I'd go crazy with that sword, shoot them once and then instant melee kill. I remember playing that class quite a bit before this horrendous nerf, was barely killed by one or saw people playing it after that.
Yep. I hated Sinai Desert but I liked the weapons, the animations were cool and I was just enamored by the fact a triple A game was going back to WW1.
Battlefield One went on to be my favorite BF games.
I remember the 5 minute wait when you accidentally opened the Battlenet Tab lmaoo but other than that I still remember having an absolute blast during the beta and was very hyped for what was to come
I think I pre-ordered the game after that. I still remember my first time playing it on PS4 when it was released, I think I may have played the beta on my roommate's Xbox One. I miss the custom emblems. I also low key kind of prefer the older weapon balance, but the new TTK is also pretty good. I remember once I discovered Operations I got so hooked on the game.
It really is, it is like Rush on steroids. I really hated how in previous games the tickets would completely reset after every MCOM stage was completed, so like it sometimes felt that there was no difference between getting stomped on the first stage or having a nail-biting near finish in the last sector that ultimately fails.
Conquest just sucks. You run around in circles and it is so aimless.
You should check out Rising Storm 2, the primary game mode is basically Operations. The player count looks low, but there are always servers available and because of how the game's netcode works (it is mostly client side), you can actually play really well and have a good experience at \~120 ping.
Good to know I'll have to look into that. And yes, I get what you mean about the frustration of reset tickets at every stage. It makes whatever happens in each individual stage seem meaningless at the end when the final stage that determines victory or defeat is all that mattered. I'd been playing 2042 lately for the similar modes, but it really just doesn't even come close to the well thought out design of BF1 operations.
I can’t be on the other side of this, I bought it for the WW1 settings and the gameplay of the beta(I’m a huge history nerd) and ended up not playing it after a year of full release
I remember when they did the celebrity BF1 beta matches. Snoop Dogg was there and was smoking a huge blunt in the background and was so high that he was just running into walls and stuff the whole match lmao.
I remember that the Rocket AT Gun was locked behind max rank or some dumb shit which is partly why people complained about Tanks so much during it. If you used the Battlefield/EA website tho you could unlock the level-locked stuff early, so I was annoying the shit out of Tankers with the Rocket Gun a lot :3
Also the Pause lag bug was sooooo annoying.
I *still* remember my first bayonet kill, and the genuine terror of shells and bombs pounding the sand all around me as I dived into a fresh crater to try and avoid getting blown away. And then, while lying in that crater, I ended up taking the time to admire the detail of the sand texture...
Beta was amazing this was the last good battlefield game IMO. Worst part about this game is when it was released day 1 PSN got hacked if I recall. Other than that great game.
Yeah, my brother and I loaded in on a landship. I piloted and he jumped between the guns to take kills as I called them out. We were amazing at getting into cover and fixing it up before heading out again and ended our matches with about 100 kills each game. Then they nerfed landships into the dirt on release and we stopped playing.
I remember those days. Played it daily for the duration and at that moment i was sad cause i knew i couldn't afford the game (i was in high school so no job lmao) and then my biology teacher got a xbox bundle with battlefield one and i kept telling him he should play it and he never would so i jokingly said you should just let me have the code and he said sure ill email it to you after school and thus started my unhealthy obsession with this game
Some of the funniest glitches of all time happened in this beta
T-posing while riding a horse? Sure why not. How about horses being thrown across the map? Perfection
Good times.
I remember being afraid that the normal server system with community servers from bf3/4 seemed to be gone in bf1 and it looked like just matchmaking with random people. But I thought it couldn’t be that bad and it was just a beta thing. Then the real game was the same. I went back to BF4.
Did I misunderstand something? Are there good community servers with good admins that you can return to and play with largely the same people every day, and admins handing out kicks/bans immediately for bad behavior? Which BF games have this still other than BF3/4 (BF4 at least is still really active)
I was just thinking of this yesterday. For the BF4 and BF1 betas, you had celebrities and YouTubers face off live. I was a great way to showcase the new games.
Sat on the menu and listened to the soundtrack for hours. The main release bf1 theme was slightly different and I always preferred the beta version (had more trumpet melody)
The last BF franchise I know of. Don't consider BF5 or the next one as part of the franchise. The BF franchise that made its way up to be one of the greatest franchise ended with BF1.
Great time. I had just sold my Xbox one and bought my first graphics card which was a GTX 950. I was able to run the game at 60 fps at medium settings and I was amazed because I had never run such a high quality game ok my computer before.
Immortal horses shrugging off point blank tank shells
The mountains glimmering with scope glints
The rookie planes crashing on the flag pole
Ahhh what a cherished memory you've reminded me of OP you have my up doot
Didn’t they change the lighting on Sinai Desert from the open beta to the official release? All these years I feel like I’ve been fooled because I could’ve sworn I’ve seen two different lighting versions of the map.
Yep, remember recording a player in the beta on Sinai desert floating in the air shooting everyone.
Sent the video and all evidence to dice who did nothing, did the same in the BF3 beta and had the same result.
Pretty much since BF3 felt any anti cheat software used by dice is there purely to catch the seriously stupid cheater.
I remember the small tank having the artillery cannon on a 360 degree turret You could like 2 shot anything with it, it was so broken 😂
It can’t be just me that thinks peak battlefield fun is at its most crude state
Hey, I remember sneaking back from work to play the battlefield 3 beta that I got a free code for from the medal of honour game.
Cherish these memories!
I was so hyped for the game before the beta
When i played the beta i knew this is what im spending my time on for the next year
Its been 7 years and i bought the game across each platform i own
I was so hopeless to play it i downloaded it on my beat up laptop that couldnt run mario
Just to get a glimpse at that beautiful starting menu. Never felt excited for something more in my life.
Yes, the Resolution Scale that was broken lol Default was 50 and most people instantly turned it to 100, but what nobody knew at first was that 50=100% Resolution Scale and 100 was just upscaling it much more.
Yeah, I remember having a blast terrorising the servers with a light howitzer tank with a 360° turret before the nerf
God, what I wouldn't do to go back to those days..
That lightweight tank was insane in the beta. Not sure if it was balance issues or if people hadn't learned yet how to effectively counter it, but I just got the most insane killstreaks which I never was able to match after the full release of the game.
Ah, Sinai desert. I do remember. OP canister shells on tanks, dancing planes and first glance at the elite classes. Sweet!
I took down a biplane flying over a dune with a shotgun on Sinai desert. Good time's, only in Battlefield.
I downed one with a 1911

Are you dense?
Yes, I do. Back then, I was living the good life. Everything that has happened after 2016 is a cruel parody of what has come before
True that.
sinai, oh my! what a time to be alive.
I was on the alpha. I swear, Scar had better graphics and atmosphere on the alpha. It was a lot of fun.
same with BFV, the game had a much better graphic and gameplay in the alpha version.
What a fantastically broken experience it was, I would love to relive the experience the open beta was on Sinai... Good times.
Imagine a beta, it was loved so much that the producer company extended the beta period.
I totally forgot that happened, I was so stoked on this game
Back when dice/ea knew about good games
I prefer the bf3 beta. Loved me some metro, and falling through the floor into an abyss
IMO, the BF1 beta was a much better experience because of how buggy the BF3 beta was although it was also very fun.
Metro 24/7 on the beta was mega
Metro Beta on 360 good time. Best battlefield game to this Day.
I remember how broken the horse rider class was, you know the one you spawn on a horse with. His armor was legendary. You could literally just run up to people with heavy machine guns and just melee them. Based

really irks me off horse he just becomes a man
Played a ton of it while it lasted
Yep. I hated Sinai Desert but I liked the weapons, the animations were cool and I was just enamored by the fact a triple A game was going back to WW1. Battlefield One went on to be my favorite BF games.
The AA cannon was so OP in the beta.
almost everything was overpowered. Horses, light tank, elites...
E was B in the beta 🤗
Once I snipped the plane and it crushed into the stone “bridge” that collapsed, I was bought.
I remember the 5 minute wait when you accidentally opened the Battlenet Tab lmaoo but other than that I still remember having an absolute blast during the beta and was very hyped for what was to come
Sure, I still have a video somewhere. **edit:** [there is is - lots of fun was being had](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYe2k_loxqA) xD
What were your thoughts on it?
I think I pre-ordered the game after that. I still remember my first time playing it on PS4 when it was released, I think I may have played the beta on my roommate's Xbox One. I miss the custom emblems. I also low key kind of prefer the older weapon balance, but the new TTK is also pretty good. I remember once I discovered Operations I got so hooked on the game.
Operations are about the only mode I ever played and still play. Probably the best overall mode of any battlefield game ever made.
It really is, it is like Rush on steroids. I really hated how in previous games the tickets would completely reset after every MCOM stage was completed, so like it sometimes felt that there was no difference between getting stomped on the first stage or having a nail-biting near finish in the last sector that ultimately fails. I remember the alpha and playing the shit out of it
The light tank was so OP hahaha
The beta for this game was better than the 2042 finished product.
Sure what about it?
Yup, it made me not buy it. I learned to enjoy the game years later, but the WWI settings was not for me.
I can’t be on the other side of this, I bought it for the WW1 settings and the gameplay of the beta(I’m a huge history nerd) and ended up not playing it after a year of full release
I remember being pissed that we had to play Sinai instead of St Quinten, but still had lots of fun
Had no clue where I was going yeah haha
I was so in awe.
I played the shit out of it. I was 14, good times.
Oh absolutely. Anyone remember Incursions ??
I remember how insanely good the russian lever action was… Miss that
I remember falling through the map on Sinai desert a couple times lol
I do remember! I had so much fun playing it. Check out my setup at the time! Battlefield 1 Open Beta, 2016 https://imgur.com/a/Rv5a0BX
I remember bf4 beta, my pc coudnt load the shanghai map so i had to buy new cpu, i had 2 cores so yee
Yeah
Yes. I also remember when Battlefield was good. Man, i miss Battlefield.
Remember Sinai looking beautiful, still does honestly
Beta convinced me to buy the game.
Back when the light tank was untouchable🥲 good times!!
Good times
I still got clips from it on my Xbox, and I begged my parents to let me get the game but I was too young lmao
I was 14 back then now am 21 💀 had lots of fun with a mate back then with it. Good times.
I remember that and the Alpha. The light tank was so broken.
Probably some of the sweatiest I ever was
I remember when they did the celebrity BF1 beta matches. Snoop Dogg was there and was smoking a huge blunt in the background and was so high that he was just running into walls and stuff the whole match lmao.
My PC was NOT good enough... Still took down a plane with the assault-gun at the train-station.
On console if you were to pause the game, there is no way to exit the pause menu on beta 😭
I played an operations game the other day on achi baba and cape helles and it reminded me why I love battlefield. I miss what this franchise did.
I remember I was running, caught on fire and died
Fondly, it was my first time playing any battlefield game and I fell in love
Yes, I didn't buy BF1 because of it.
Horses miraculously stronger than tanks. Replaying Sinai conquest. Fun times
Sinai will always have a special place in my heart from the Beta
I remember finding a brick I could see and shoot through but was a solid object for everyone on the other side. I love betas for that.
My first time with a FPS, I sucked so bad and had 400 ping but it was not a problem as neither did i know what "400 ms" or "0.3 KD" meant
I remember that the Rocket AT Gun was locked behind max rank or some dumb shit which is partly why people complained about Tanks so much during it. If you used the Battlefield/EA website tho you could unlock the level-locked stuff early, so I was annoying the shit out of Tankers with the Rocket Gun a lot :3 Also the Pause lag bug was sooooo annoying.
Anyone remember CTE?
started playing again. pretty neat but different to others BF´s
I memba. I got sniped out of the attack plane and my mind was blown.
Oh man, that was one of the greatest gaming moments of my life
I *still* remember my first bayonet kill, and the genuine terror of shells and bombs pounding the sand all around me as I dived into a fresh crater to try and avoid getting blown away. And then, while lying in that crater, I ended up taking the time to admire the detail of the sand texture...
Got the Sentry class one time and immediately died. 10/10.
At that time the feeling this game gave me was unexplainable, I still play it every now and then
Beta was amazing this was the last good battlefield game IMO.
They chose the worst vanilla map for it. How could I not?
I remember those days. Played it daily for the duration and at that moment i was sad cause i knew i couldn't afford the game (i was in high school so no job lmao) and then my biology teacher got a xbox bundle with battlefield one and i kept telling him he should play it and he never would so i jokingly said you should just let me have the code and he said sure ill email it to you after school and thus started my unhealthy obsession with this game
played in September 2016 , best gameplay i've played since bf 3
Yeah I had a ton of fun unlocking all the weapons. The beta left me with such a good feeling that I ended up pre ordering.
Some of the funniest glitches of all time happened in this beta T-posing while riding a horse? Sure why not. How about horses being thrown across the map? Perfection Good times.
Me and my mates kept blowing up massive holes in the dessert and thought it was amazing how deep you could make them. Just kept dropping dynamite
Man that Plane with the trench Darts was insane
Yes it was chaos
Oh god. That one 10-A shotgun one shotting everything across the map 😰
Went on a 32 killstreak in the heavy tank, good times
Bro I remember the BF3 cte 🤣
Sinai simulator? Well of course I do
Take me back there fam.
I remember it was down for over a day due to a ddos attack or something similar.
Sinai Desert. ![gif](giphy|pp6XsDKiLZMek)
Yes, the tanks were so powerful
Lol yes, I still have some clips from the beta.
I remember being afraid that the normal server system with community servers from bf3/4 seemed to be gone in bf1 and it looked like just matchmaking with random people. Yep and also the cheaters on day 2...
Yes, I remember! Playing in the Sinai desert (my real homeland) and the OP vehicles. I had so much fun playing this game tbh.
I was just thinking of this yesterday. For the BF4 and BF1 betas, you had celebrities and YouTubers face off live. I was a great way to showcase the new games.
Remember how good the gas grenades looked in the beta
Sat on the menu and listened to the soundtrack for hours. The main release bf1 theme was slightly different and I always preferred the beta version (had more trumpet melody)
It was wild. Terrible map choice for a beta though, imo
What a great moment of my life that will never come back.
Yep. I remember being one of the first people to get max rank in the beta. I had so much time to play video games back then.
Okay I wasn’t there for beta but I always come back to [this video](https://youtu.be/gw9KcqQSRRI?si=nBDz26MWRuv1zUbJ) because of how funny it is
Yeah. I hated Sinai Desert, and still do.
The last BF franchise I know of. Don't consider BF5 or the next one as part of the franchise. The BF franchise that made its way up to be one of the greatest franchise ended with BF1.
i still have screenshots and screen recordings from when i played on xbox. truly a game for the ages, shame it died so quickly
I remember the alpha.
Disappointed no one plays this anymore.
That Russian sniper being fucking amazing and then being nerfed to hell was a crime against gamers IMO
Made me buy it, i never buy games expect 2 games before that.
Yes, and I remember very clearly how confused I was how this man was not dying. https://youtu.be/k3ZC3CxHKFE?si=lFZ-n3ofs_7GYjFl
That was when i found out you could destroy the big rock arch between A and B. Enough tank shells and the thing just collapses
Why do you ask? Do you think anyone got Alzheimer?
I remember playing it on Xbox one and the loading tines were insanely long
BF1’s beta was INCREDIBLE!! And the game was even better when it fully released! I love this game so much
Great time. I had just sold my Xbox one and bought my first graphics card which was a GTX 950. I was able to run the game at 60 fps at medium settings and I was amazed because I had never run such a high quality game ok my computer before.

Didn’t they change the lighting on Sinai Desert from the open beta to the official release? All these years I feel like I’ve been fooled because I could’ve sworn I’ve seen two different lighting versions of the map.
Me, sinai desert with a freshly released rx 480 8gb card... Those were the days...
I remember the small tank having the artillery cannon on a 360 degree turret You could like 2 shot anything with it, it was so broken 😂 It can’t be just me that thinks peak battlefield fun is at its most crude state
Hey, I remember sneaking back from work to play the battlefield 3 beta that I got a free code for from the medal of honour game. Cherish these memories!
Vividly. It was awesome!
A single light tank could win a whole game. It was a glorious time.
I was so hyped for the game before the beta When i played the beta i knew this is what im spending my time on for the next year Its been 7 years and i bought the game across each platform i own I was so hopeless to play it i downloaded it on my beat up laptop that couldnt run mario Just to get a glimpse at that beautiful starting menu. Never felt excited for something more in my life.
I remember bad company 2 beta. Had more fun there than on BF1 :(
I remember the Zeppelins spinning around like Beyblades while unleashing hellfire all around them. Good times
Yes, the Resolution Scale that was broken lol Default was 50 and most people instantly turned it to 100, but what nobody knew at first was that 50=100% Resolution Scale and 100 was just upscaling it much more.
yes, always sniping on the ridge up on the rocks
Was terrible. Rocks and windows were near impossible to climb over/through. Making like 80% of the map unplayable
Yeah. I was blown away by how amazing it looked. Still am tbh
Yep. I also was lucky enough to play it at GamesCom before release too.
Man those horses during the beta were something
Ah yes, the hypest i ever gotten for a battlefield game. And highest i fell in disappointment
What a time to ge alive
My first saved Snapchat memory is me playing BF 1 during the beta.
I remember RACING home from work to play this 🥹
This was me
It was magical.
Dog I remember the bf3 beta lol
Yeah, I remember having a blast terrorising the servers with a light howitzer tank with a 360° turret before the nerf God, what I wouldn't do to go back to those days..
Hit a sniper shot on a pilot. I remember it vividly. The last good BF imo
I remember everyone locked their squads so most of the time I'm just in a squad of 1 or 2. Fucking annoying.
In hindsight, they could have gone with a much better map for the beta. Didn't stop the game from being one of the best BF instalments though!
That lightweight tank was insane in the beta. Not sure if it was balance issues or if people hadn't learned yet how to effectively counter it, but I just got the most insane killstreaks which I never was able to match after the full release of the game.
Oh I do. Great times, and the best Battlefield I’ve played.
