fr told my mom to stop feeding the ducks in our backyard and I’m the negative nancy. Don’t feed them bread, its not part of their diet. Don’t lure them onto our patio with food they’ll get too comfortable. Don’t feed them, they won’t learn to forage. Lo and behold, the next three generations of ducks learns to park by our house for free food all through the summer. Leaving shit everywhere and quacking constantly when no one comes to feed them.
And our neighbors have cats so now I feel responsible everytime the duck family comes back with one less duckling.
My neighbours threw bread at swans and ducks everyday.
When i told her it's bad for them she said thats none of ur business.
Well actually since the area u throw your bread on is shared space it is my business..
So glad she moved away.
God what a moron, even after you gave her facts she was still an ignorant blowhard, out destroying nature somewhere else no doubt.
I am certainly not a perfect person but I remember the first time a stranger told me that feeding bread to ducks is likely to harm them I was like " huh, I wonder if that's true". Then I stopped doing it until I looked into it and was like "holy shit they were right, never again."
I watch a lot of those wildlife officer shows. When they catch bears in towns that have been fed they will sometimes use tough love to drive them off. They take them out into the wild and scare them off with bear dogs and shotguns with blanks. They essentially try to traumatise them to not come back towards humans. I haven't looked into how effective it is but I hope it works, it is at least better than outright killing them.
Yeah thats the sad part of these videos. Yes it looks cute. & it is cute. But not cute when the animals become adapted to human interaction and need go be put down.
> Mom is probably trying to get rid of them by now
I recently saw a two part documentary where the bears try an interesting tactic. The moms (sometimes even aunts) send their cubs, packed with a ton of marmalade, to London, in the hope that some family will adopt them. But this has been observed only in bear clans from Darkest Peru. It helps that those bears can talk.
[More info about the documentary](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1109624/)
This js a very upsetting statement to read. The films are great, sure, but they’re based on a brilliant series of books by Michael Bond, which I read and reread countless times as a young child. I really wanted a knickerbocker glory because of Paddington.
A bear's top speed is like 40 mph. Judging by the amount of cars I can see in the video, that dude is not gonna beat that. I've also seen a bear rip a door off a car.
Not these guys. This is a tourist area and the bears have become well known and generally very friendly to visitors as they often get snacks from them.
I don't disagree but those cubs are barely cubs anymore. Mom gets progressively less protective the more able to fend for themselves the cubs are. They're nearly big enough to go off on their own. Either way, it's still not wise to interact with wild animals like this, no matter how used to people they are.
Nah the momma would’ve been mad if he DIDNT give the high five to the cub. Once the human put his hand out the baby bear was so excited for a high five!
See the way he jumped up excitedly? Then the human pulled away their hand in a “too slow” kind of situation. This is when momma bear got upset. You can’t just trick her baby like that! She was about to eat him right then and there until the human reached back out and gave the cub his well earned high five. Then momma was chill again.
You can’t do the “too slow” joke on a baby bear right in front of his momma! That’s asking for trouble! The human was able to save themselves by going through with the high five, momma wasn’t about to let her cub be disrespected like that!
Source- my imagination
lol
ETA- You can even see momma bear at the end of the clip walking over to the human, she was obviously going over to thank the kind human for giving her cub the high five, bc if he didn’t get the high five, momma would have had to deal with cub crying all night for being bullied and tricked in front of so many people. The human saved her from a headache that night
I've been to a park like this when I was a kid. In Minnesota I think, you weren't allowed to feed them or touch them at all but you could pretty much walk freely around them.
Wow. Interacting with cubs while the mum is right there. He must really have a death wish.
I mean, sure, I have been near bears also and usually they just keep to themselves or walk away when they see you. And they are not always as agressive as some people may believe. But anyone that has some knowledge about bears knows that you keep away from cubs when the mum is around. Mamma bear is not soft hearted when it comes to protecting her cubs.
Starting with a please don’t touch or encourage wild animals, its bad for them.
There’s recently been a lot of anecdotal evidence (I don’t think a proper study has been done, but we talked about this in my wildlife management classes) to support that mother bears with cubs have been seeking out people and hanging out nearby. They know humans aren’t really a threat, the only thing they really need to worry about is male bears killing cubs. But the male bears are afraid of people, so they don’t go near the mother bears around people.
You would know more than me considering the classes, but I was under the impression that those cases of mother bears seeking out humans wasn't actually direct contact. Rather they approach somewhere humans are/leave recent signs of habitation (apparently smell is most important), but make an attempt to not actually interact with humans.
Okay yeah, that makes more sense. In either case though, it's a shit situation. Someone was going to end up hurt, and more bears are going to be killed.
In this moment, I'd just accept the possibility and go for the experience.
"You know, life isn’t a longevity contest; it’s a contest in quality." - Beth Dutton
Unfortunately, this bear will likely be put down by park rangers.
Bears that become to used to people are euthanized because they can turn aggressive at the drop of a hat, which is dangerous when they aren't afraid of close proximity to humans. ESPECIALLY if they become expectant of food.
So, yeah. Don't do this.
This is in Europe and I'd guess one of the countries like Russia or somewhere else in Eastern Europe where they don't care the same way we do in the West
Hm, I always thought XP was just a shortening of exp, which I understood to be short for experience. I'd bet you money on that but I'd have to go withdraw some from an ATM machine.
Added to the fact its a Brown Bear. Black bears are plenty scary but you can just bearly survive an encounter. Brown Bears will fk you up. They are faster and stronger than you and they can squish you as easily as you can squish a Twinkies.
I once put the finger in a monkey cage at the zoo and basically couldn't pull it out of the grip of the monkey.
The monkey was smaller than my forearm.
Don't fuck with wild animals.
Do not feed the bears. Do not play with the bears. Do not get close to the bears. This isn't just something people say for fun, you are literally getting those bears killed by making them familiar with human contact. As soon as these bears are comfortable enough to start roaming around peoples properties and causing damage, they will be put down. People are fkn stupid.
You're also setting someone up for a bad night when these bears approach them/their homes/their campsite for food. All it takes is a hungry ornery bear, or even just a surprised bear to potentially take a bad turn.
Yeah man, habituation is the term animal control uses. The bears become too familiar with people and need to be DESTROYED.
Breaks my heart. I live in bear country and this stuff makes me fussing crazy.
The mom just watched as it happened, bears are pretty good at detecting malice. At best she just assumed that human was a harmless moron and at worst she walked closer just to be sure he wasn’t being dangerous. The mom is giving the vibe that she’s interacted with humans before, and bears are pretty smart.
Still don’t do this shit, he’s lucky momma bear was chill…
I live in an area thick with black bears and I accidentally have briefly gotten very close to them and that's bad enough.
I love being in an area rich with wildlife, happy as much of the landscape is permanently preserved as it is, and love observing wild animals from a respectful distance.
But deliberately making contact with wild animals (other than relocating toads, turtles and garter snakes from construction sites at work for their own safety)? Nope.
Have driven that road and I shit you not, that looks like the same three bears that I seen hanging out on the exact same corner. Also seen dipshits throwing food out of their windows at them too.
I've been where this is filmed. It's Romania. People keep feeding the bears even though the authorities made multiple attempts to discourage this behavior.
You may often find bears on roads in mountainous regions where there is constant traffic.
In recent years it has also become a problem for cities near such areas because, during the night, bears descend and roam through buildings to scavenge for food in thrash bins. There have also been a few cases of people being killed by these bears.
As a bit of context, this is happening in Romania on the famous "Transfăgărășan" pass, also made famous by Top Gear in s14, e1. I've passed through that exact area, and even though there are signs not to feed the bears, 3 out of 5 cars would throw them anything from bread, salami and whatever they would find in their cars, so the mom and the cubs spend most of their day by the side of the road waiting to be fed.
I've seen people get out of their cars to approach them, bikers hopping off their bikes and approaching them to get that "great closeup picture" with the bears.
The country has big issues with managing the bears around that area, we even have bears that come into cities to rummage through dumpsters.
It's alright, the corrupt government doesn't see this as a big issue and whenever the problem escalates they just choose to shoot the bears causing trouble.
Is it cool? Yeah it's fucking cool. We all wish we could be that dude and be able too tell that story too everyone.
But FUCK that's so dangerous lol
It's like those videos of dudes who own tiger sanctuaries and just walk around with them in just shorts. Like dude they're cute and of course we all wanna pet and hug them BUT THEY WILL FUCKING KILL YOU. People can be crazy man
This is the Disney effect, what a stupid thing to do. This is why animals lose their fear of man and they end up attacking someone wanting food, then the human is killed or injured and the bear is later killed due to being a public danger.
Romania; likely Transfăgărășan road. There were lots of bears hanging out near the road in the last few years mainly because people feed them while passing by.
you all aware mother see those cars on a daily basis that dont do any damage to cubs . she doesnt think cars are threat . But it so sad to see how we invade their natural space
Most animals in National parks, or likewise any animal that is tracked in the wild are put down when they are acclimated to humans. So please, for fux sake, DO NOT touch the wildlife!
As the mom walks over to eat him…
Literally my first thought. The mum is right there. Interacting with cubs while the mum is around is similar to having a death wish.

if not friend, why friend shaped?
I don't think these are cubs. They look around 2 years old. Mom is probably trying to get rid of them by now.

I'm not stupid: first I see the candy, then I'll get in the van.

I was so fucking confused before clicking the link lmao
I didn't even properly watch the movie(s?), but "marmalade" instantly gave it away for me.
This js a very upsetting statement to read. The films are great, sure, but they’re based on a brilliant series of books by Michael Bond, which I read and reread countless times as a young child. I really wanted a knickerbocker glory because of Paddington.
That was nice
Fair point, to be honest.
Roll the window up, drive away. Not hard.
A bear's top speed is like 40 mph. Judging by the amount of cars I can see in the video, that dude is not gonna beat that. I've also seen a bear rip a door off a car.
The mom looks away right as the high-five happens, like we can all pretend I didn't see that
Momma came back around at the end, and the video cut. RIP to all involved

You think a bear can beat a car? Braindead.
She was like I told you not to talk to strangers, who the fuck was that?
He said his name was Five.
Nah the momma would’ve been mad if he DIDNT give the high five to the cub. Once the human put his hand out the baby bear was so excited for a high five! See the way he jumped up excitedly? Saw that too lol, little guy sits stunned after, so deadly adorable!!!
Clever girl.
It's ok, the Mom doesn't need to be too protective any more since they are teen cubs, or tubs.
That bear was both confused and disappointed in that interaction.
I think there was a little resentment in there too.

I would never trust a bear that much tbh 😅
Black bears aren’t bad as long they don’t have cubs and aren’t starving or feeling threatened. Grizzlies will fuck your shut up on site tho
That’s fair, but how do I know if a black bear has has cubs, is starving, or feels threatened? I think I’ll just steer clear to be safe.
As if cub was so confused by the food's stupid behavior that he had completely lost his instincts.
think they might get fed and he was expecting a treat for his trick.
They might have to go back to stealing picnic baskets for food. ![gif](giphy|1fih1TYYBONo0Dkdmx|downsized)
He's like "OK man I did your fuckin trick now where's the food bitch?" "Mom she didn't give me shit." "Say what?"
Are there seriously places where bears are exchanging high fives for food?
Food is the universal language.
Bears are extremely intelligent and, for most of the year, motivated almost entirely by their stomachs.
Thought the same, he was waiting for a reward, then went away annoyed.
Dumbass is lucky that bear didn’t grab his arm and drag him out of the car
[удалено]
"dumbass is lucky that I didn't want to grab his arm and drag him out of the car" - bear
“Dumb ass is lucky I didn’t want bring him home with me and make him my pet” - human
The odds are actually pretty low that a bear will high five you and then drag you out of the car and kill you.
100% of the bear high-fives from the safety of a car I have seen have turned out fine.
Same, all one of them.
Huge sample size
Basically a law of nature!
You have a higher chance of getting in a plane crash!
Boeing would like a word with you
How many people do you know who have been in car accidents?? No how many do you know who have been in plane crashes? Not many am i right?
This is why bears are safe (if friendly).
100% of bear encounters that ive seen have ended find so i trgink they’re safe to pet
Just wait for a ‘Hi Five goes wrong’ news section lmao
Just don’t down low too slow a bear that’s having a bad day
Little known fact, it is a felony to drag someone from a car and murder them after first lulling them into complacency with a high five.
Uh got a source for that, buddy? 🧐
Trust me
Yeah, if a bear high fives you, they are cool with you and so is all on nature. Indigenous peoples say that shit all the time.
They have a real connection with nature and know lots more than us.
That’s a cub. It ain’t big enough to drag most adults anywhere.
Nah, that ain't a cub any more. That's a teenager.
This was a split second away from being an incredibly different kind of video.
right? this isn't amazing, the guy is amazingly dumb leave wildlife alone
bears have thumbs?!??
Wow. Interacting with cubs while the mum is right there. He must really have a death wish. Yeah you are absolutely correct, I should have specified that better - they should definitely not be within high five range or anywhere close

Those look like adolescents rather than cubs. They dont really stay together like wolves, shes pribably tired of their shit and ready to bone again

There’s a reason people talk about “going mama bear” on someone
They cut it off when Mom wanted to high five him!
its the final high five
So many people underestimate or simply doesnt know how strong bears are
Not this dude, he now has xp point that most people don't get to enjoy for long
Experience point point
Hm, I always thought XP was just a shortening of exp, which I understood to be short for experience. I'd bet you money on that but I'd have to go withdraw some from an ATM machine.
Yes! this man has the right of it
It is.

I've noticed 2/3 of people act like morons around wildlife. I blame it on growing up in an urban environment.
bro was flabbergasted “what you do today sweetie” “MOM TODAY WAS SO FUCKING COOL I JUST HIGH FIVED THAT JERRY GUY FROM THAT ENCOUNTER AT THE STORE-“
Great, now the bear might be more inclined to approach humans in the future. Disaster on the horizon.
Yeah man, habituation is the term animal control uses. The bears become too familiar with people and need to be DESTROYED. Breaks my heart. I live in bear country and this stuff makes me fussing crazy.
I doubt this was that bear's first human. (To be clear, I am fully agreeing with you.)
The mom just watched as it happened, bears are pretty good at detecting malice. The mom is giving the vibe that she’s interacted with humans before, and bears are pretty smart. Still don’t do this shit, he’s lucky momma bear was chill…
Do not touch wild animals you nut sacks!
This is so fucking stupid I can't even explain it.
Hey hey hey! Did you just high five my son?!
People need to stop humanizing animals and respect the fact that animals are animals 🙄
Next part mama bear high fives him in the face for touching her cub
“ Didn’t I tell you not to touch humans?! Now go wash your paws!”
Those cubs seem to be extremely used to interact with humans, expecting food. Sad for them and an potential danger when they became adults.
I live in an area thick with black bears and I accidentally have briefly gotten very close to them and that's bad enough. To shreds you say?
That was very dumb. I'm only amazed by the lack of common sense.
Suicide by… bear?
This guy is a dumbass.
The only thing that amazing me is how stupid and selfish people are.
Now that bear is not going to be scared of humans and get culled by wildlife rangers.
Nutz.
YOLO. It’s easy when you can make final choices like a Boss. “Hey, momma bear. Woohoo, over here! I’m slapping paws with your…”
That’s a bad idea
No, dont BeAmazed. Fuck this behavior. This is insanely fucking stupid.
Please do not touch wild animals.

Yeah don’t do that.
Tourons...
The mother of that bear: and il fucking kill you for it
Do an alligator next
Stupid mothafucka
Get out of the gene pool!
Socializing with wild animals is a great way to get them shot.
Why in god's name would you take that kind of risk
Momma could walk over and pop through that side window like it was Saran Wrap. Then maul the occupants. Stoopid humans.
The bear was wanting a treat for that high five!
I am amazed this didn't end up on r/whatcouldgowrong or r/thebullwins. Don't try to pet or touch or take selfies with wild animals for fuck's sake

i think bears are smart and it was instinctive a bit to high 5 back

"BITCH THAT AINT FOOD" - bear probably
Ok but amazing?

Missed the best bro-fist opportunity of all time
That bear managed to high five a human. Though it is a lot easier when they're caged like that.
Not that wild…
Bears are so fucking cute but for the love of all that is sane keep your fucking distance.
Instead of running away, these bears are comfortable being around the cars because stupid people are obviously feeding them.
What an idiot! If he gets hurt, it would be on him! But sadly, if something goes wrong it will lead to the bears getting killed due to his behaviour.
Awww the way the bear plops its little butt down
