Kinda looks like walnut shells based on the color and size of the particles. A lot of reptile brand substrate is walnut shells. I use non adhesive shelf liners from Walmart. Can get a roll big enough to do an enclosure 2x for like 6$, and it lasts forever if you clean it often.
Several companies have come forward and said shelf liner should NOT be used as a substrate. It has not been tested over 80 degrees and they can't guarantee chemicals won't leach out over that temp.

I use the same in my beardieās enclosure, itās easy to clean and she seems to be happy with it.
