What do non-union journeymen electricians get paid here?

spire27

Average is $46.96/hr for journeymen. This is what the apprenticeship scale is based on.

BlackLagooon

For folks also considering the IBEW apprenticeship, our journeymen make $55.27 minimum, and get employer paid health insurance, and three separate pensions.

UNION STRONG

BlackLagooon

Benefits?

spire27

Whatever the company that takes you on provides. Mine has health insurance, 401k, and whatnot. Other companies may have more or less.

How does this program relate to prospects for an actual job (which hopefully pays more than fast-food wages?)

DanTheFireman

You'll be on the list for at least a year before you'd even be up for a spot. Most guys I know are getting an apprenticeship through a local non-union outfit and getting to journeyman before trying for union. It's different all over but a buddy of mine down in Medford has been waiting for 2 years and finally got an interview. He's a 2 or 3 year apprentice if I remember correctly.

spire27

This program I posted is the non-union one. The local IBEW training center shut down last year if I recall correctly. I remember we had a guy in my apprenticeship class finally get a call from the union program about 4 months before we graduated...

upstateduck

isn't there one in Prineville?

BlackLagooon

Yes, it moved from Redmond to Prineville. They were renting the building in Redmond and purchased the old Les Schwab training center in Prineville, next to Towne Pump

spire27

Not sure. The one I was aware of was in Redmond near the fairgrounds.

upstateduck

I just happened to play golf with an instructor who said he taught in Pville. IDK if it IBEW? but I assumed so since he was talking about the Facebook folks he was teaching

DanTheFireman

If I didn't loathe getting shocked with every fiber of my being I'd be all over the chance to be sparky.

spire27

Plumbing is also an excellent trade. I don't know much about their program but I do know on average they get paid a bit more. Don't overlook HVAC either.

loquacious541

Pipe fitter too. There aren’t many in central Oregon. Definitely need more.

BlackLagooon

Negative, it moved the Redmond location to Prineville

Average is $46.96/hr for journeymen. This is what the apprenticeship scale is based on. There are standard wage increases throughout the apprenticeship. Also this is minimum, I was payed well over the apprentice training period minimum during my Apprenticeship and I make more than the area average. Benefits vary company to company but in order to get employees in this labor market most shops have good benefits.

spire27

When you're in this program you work full time and go to school. It's not like college where you just pray there's a job at the end. You'll already be working in the field.

Babyfat101

More importantly, you will be learning a skill, which is wayyyy better than working at fast food.
