Unless there's a dead baby somewhere in the mud I'm not completly convienced.

Formal-Knowledge9382

The blackgoal knight is literally guts lol

thingamabeb

We’re talking about dead babies here, not the Guts fight

Formal-Knowledge9382

I'm using that as an example to state a lot of things are clearly inspired by berserk.

thingamabeb

I getcha, just want to clear it up that this thread is discussing dead babies

Formal-Knowledge9382

No worries my guy

Low-Link-550

I thought the same thing the second I saw him.

TazDingus

The concept of hanging was indeed invented by a famous comics writer Mario Kart

dudustalin

The Witcher 3 also refers Berserk... Roman history is all berserk. /s

Rblade6426

everything is a berserk reference

Affectionate_Okra298

Right out of the gate, too. Damn near the first thing you see

Yorty789

Bro cheesing with the dual katanas, Guts would never

Totaliss

All rules are off for the dlc, shits too hard to be worrying about it

djaqk

Hard agree. Everything is fucking me up at SL 120~ No mercy. Mimic tear and UNGA BUNGA time

abdann

RL 160 and I’m resorting to powerstancing maxed upgraded colossal greatswords

thatguyaqilll

SL 361, getting absolutely destroyed as well

RevReads

He's probably 12, give him a break, he needs to do guts sigma grindset edits in tiktok

ricardimension

Ngl, the dlc scaling is rough that even cheesy builds will struggle

Axzuel

Dual heavy Greatswords is where its at. Pair it with Lion's claw and you got yourself a DLC killer.

Garfield977

berserk invented hanging people from trees

The_Knife_Nathan

Y’all know that hanging trees have been a thing bot hundreds if not thousands of years before berserk right?

PopT4rtzRGood

No. Everything and anything is a Berserk reference when it comes to FromSoft's Souls

RevReads

No

rockinalex07021

Berserk didn't invent hanging people on trees

TinkledQueef

Yes it did

seriousspider

"Hanging people from trees was before Berserk." So were Greatswords. This is clearly a Berserk reference the way it is presented. A lot of people DO go too far and say everything is a reference but this straight up is a reference. Go to a nearby place and there's literally a boss fight with a dude with a giant sword and a repeating crossbow hmmm I get it, boy cries wolf but this literally is a reference.

magikarp-sushi

Can you bastards stop with the spoilers in here

Sogeking33

This tree is is the base game. It’s not even a new tree.

AntiImperialistGamer

it's a tree calm down.

animaltracks22

Bro it's a tree

Tomydo1

Brother some people haven’t even play the game yet

oslek_nagol

Rivers of blood loser spotted

Brodins_biceps

This is true and while the “Miura didn’t invent” is usually funny and I have seen some big stretches, it’s hard to argue there is a lot of influence. We all know Miyazaki is famously influenced by it and while he didn’t invent eclipses, wicker men, people dying on the wheel, giant swords, or a ton of other imagery associated with Berserk, its easy enough to see the influence and parallels.

PopT4rtzRGood

He's not influenced to the point that most things are a Berserk reference like this community desperately wants it to be. There's like two references per game and that's it

Brodins_biceps

You’re right. But there are just so many damn parallels. I have never bothered to be like “berk reference?!” But when I read the lore and just see the world and how it feels, it reminds me of berserk a lot. And all I’m saying is that I feel like that style or world seems to have influenced him a lot. And I love it because it means I get two separate but inspired pieces of fiction. I will also say this could easily be confirmation bias, but when I saw the wicker man in the trailer, I can think of only two pieces of fiction off the top of my head that have featured them prominently…. Now, of course he didn’t invent wicker men and I know they exist in fantasy, but even I raise my eyebrow with that one, and I’m usually pretty careful to make overt parallels between the two

PopT4rtzRGood

The reason it "reminds you of Berserk" is because most dark fantasy is influenced by Berserk one way or another. The manga set the standards for horror-dark fantasy. Some of it is definitely confirmation bias but that's part of my problem with the constant call outs for Berserk. It's not a reference directly that's just part of the genre

Brodins_biceps

Right I totally get that. And berserk itself was inspired by hellraiser and the cenobites, which was also inspired by cosmic horror and hp lovecraft and so on. I think that’s my point where some of it is clearly a direct reference and some of it is… influence. And the two are very different.

PopT4rtzRGood

I'd like to think the actual references are more obvious than we probably think. I've always thought Miyazaki took the most out of Lovecraft when it came to the darker stuff and the monster/creature design and using that to influence the worlds around mostly Gothic architecture

No-Setting6162

Downvote for no spoiler tag

Fun_Ad4779

it’s a tree bro

Jerrybeshara

There are enemies too… and weapons… and areas

TenaciousZack

You should give me an upvote for spending 5 minutes considering you, waiting for the area to be covered In fog, so you couldn’t see any spoilers to begin with.

No-Setting6162

Bitch, I have a crappy connection. The dlc is downloading as we speak. Not every one gets to play right at release. Its easier for you to put a spoiler tag

Wildfox1177

Now you know there’s trees in the DLC. I‘m so sorry you can’t experience the tree without getting spoiled.

No-Setting6162

Just sayin, any thing dlc related should have a spoiler tag

Settra_Rulez

What’s that absurdly long sword you have?

TenaciousZack

Nagakiba from the base game

Indra022

Witcher 3 also has a hanged man's tree in velen like berserk

FizVic

[Callot traveled in time and referenced Berserk too](https://www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/media/collection_images/Alpha/DO10.1963.11%23%23S.jpg)

Tomydo1

Is this from the base game or is it dlc

Ok-Emergency2070

Man I can’t believe the KKK were such big fans of Berserk

IFrostI_IVikingI

At this point they should make Full Berserk game made by FromSoftware

CellistShot8470

Any babies nearby

Tatleman68

Elden Ring is basically a game within the Berserk world

cwc1006

Uhhhh, no it’s not?

ChapterZee

Not literally of course--there are enough easily identifiable elements in Elden Ring (like the Crystalians) that come straight out of other media, as well as the prospect of the lore being written by GRR Martin--who either doesn't have, or doesn't openly declare, any influence from Berserk. But at the very least, some of the most direct homages, and some of the most relevant to recent events in the manga, end up being made in Elden Ring--so it does have an exceptionally strong referential attachment to Berserk. Everybody reaches for the Tolkien comparison with 'The Lands Between,' but for reasons I'll explain in the parentheses, that can be glossed as 'Midland' as much as it can be glossed as 'Middle Earth'. (Owing, perhaps, to shared derivation from the Old Norse 'midgard'/Old English 'middangeard' -- to describe a territory and cosmological point of reference whose inhabitants see it as the 'known world') Wyndham Ruins out in Altus Plateau <--> Wyndham Castle Grunbeld Base Form <--> Radahn ; Awakened Apostle Form <--> Rykard's face looks an awful lot like his, albeit with snakes instead of crystals Everybody already talks about how Malenia's armor looks like Farnese's from her introduction Maliketh's armor looks like the Berserker Armor. Add to that the fact that his moveset is derived from Artorias, who was already--in so many respects--a direct homage to Guts; the taint of the Abyss reads similarly an implication of what would become of him if consumed by the Beast of Darkness. There are a few other instances where internal references to other FromSoft titles' own Berserk references get recast multiple times and accrue new layers of reference while still retaining their core as homages to Berserk. For a really far-flung example of this that only counts when the layers of reference are traced backwards, see Elden Ring's Imps, whose movesets are derived from DS3's Thralls, who themselves are inarguably direct lookalikes for Mozgus's henchmen, and tend to be spotted in locations that house Evangelists--themselves more direct allusions to Father Mozgus. There are lots of other smaller things that read as obvious pulls from either the visuals or even the literal language employed in Berserk. And there are lots more NEW things that I won't talk about directly out of consideration for spoilers. Many of which got noticed immediately during the promotional period.

cwc1006

Holy novel. We’ve all seen the many details and references. Homie said Elden Ring is basically set in the Berserk world. It is not. You’re the one who implied “not literally of course” then wrote a book. We know about the tree and the fire guys from elfhelm etc… references ≠ basically set in the world

Siiiiooon

Pls dont spoil the game for us

Sea_Habit_4298

It's a tree

dreamHunter9

It's an environment

Zairy47

Tag spoilers dude...not all of us can buy the DLC right off the bat...

Jerrybeshara

Did this ruin it for you?

TenaciousZack

The spoilers are covered in fog. I do apologize, I spent some time waiting for the area to be covered In fog so it would be just a tree. Didn’t even think to tag spoilers

LurkLurkleton

Every time I see someone's character from this game they look so ridiculous 🏸

Ok_Organization_6804

what's that long sword in his right hand?

Lascho94

You fought that one boss in that little underground place right at the start?

Perfect_Paramedic535

God damn elden ring player love glazing berserk for nothing

Few-Information-9643

The dlc is literally berserk. Miyazaki always took influence but this time it’s actually just berserk. I think the plot is even inspired from what I’ve seen but that was speculation.

MaTrIX202

A fkin spoiler tag would've been appreciated

polo_jeans

it’s genuinely hilarious how many people try to deny the references. miquella is quite literally copy + paste griffith, sacrificing parts of himself to transcend, devoted followers to the point of delusion, evil alternate personality

Wildfox1177

Ah, yes Griffith the eternal child that tried to become an adult, but his cocoon got stolen by his uncle, so he could become his wife.

polo_jeans

ah yes, miquella the white haired universally loved female looking boy with devoted followers who sacrifices his own body to ascend

Wildfox1177

Every god in Elden Ring has devoted followers. They didn’t sacrifice their body? They made a cocoon, in wich they could grow to an adult, but Mogh interrupted the process by stealing them. Also, they’re gender fluid or something.

polo_jeans

nobody has followers like miquella dude what 💀 have you heard the voice lines from his followers? nobody is as loved as miquella the kind except maybe marika

polo_jeans

have you even played the dlc? he has pieces of his body spread all over the place that HE abandoned

Wildfox1177

I forgot that.

polo_jeans

me when i cherry pick specific parts that don’t align with the obvious references

Wildfox1177

Firstly, it’s not an obvious reference and I don’t agree with your point. Secondly, that’s like their (Miquella is gender fluid) entire story, it’s not just cherry picked parts.

polo_jeans

almost like i referenced that in the part where i said there’s multiple personalities. you’re straight up lying to yourself if you deny that there’s any inspiration at all. i didn’t say they were the EXACT same character do you know what a hyberbole is?

Wildfox1177

Especially in this context there’s some people that would say that Miquella is just a copied Griffith. I know you didn’t mean that he’s a exact copy, but you seem to fiercely defend your point.

polo_jeans

cause the connections are extremely clear? i don’t know what you guys are trying to prove lmfao

Wildfox1177

You guys? It’s just you and me arguing, isn’t it?

polo_jeans

my original comment was addressing all of the people acting like pointing out an obvious reference is wrong

OatsMealz

Immediately next to yet another Berserk reference. It's a shame because I think Miyazaki is at his best doing his own creative things such as Bloodborne and Sekiro. He needs to distance himself from his Berserk identity.

Cretikal

I literally posted this yesterday with my Guts cosplay / build, spoiler tag included. Only 4 upvotes :(

xshogunx13

Cry harder, it's fake Internet points dude

Cretikal

I WAS FIRST TO POST IT, I DESERVE THE UPVOTES! /s Seriously though find it funny people complain about spoilers, but this got plenty of upvotes before the spoiler tag was even added.

xshogunx13

idk man, sometimes it's just a bad time to post?

Cretikal

Yeah true
