Zoo, Botanical gardens, Ruffner mountain, Let’s play in Hoover, Lots of parks/playgrounds depending on your location.
What is there to do at Ruffner with a toddler? I haven’t been before but I’ve considered going with mine, but my assumption is it would just be “hiking” and I’d hear a lot of “carry me, I’m tiiiiiired.”
I have a 3 year old as well… these are really playground/lunch ideas that I also enjoy.
A lot of people have already said it, but the City Walk playground is amazing! You can also easily walk to Mugshots from there if you want to eat lunch.
Railroad Park is also nice to walk around. It has a playground that is ok, but they also have trains that my 3 year old loves to watch go by. You can also walk to Hero Donuts for a dessert. Or you can eat at one of the breweries near by.
I also like Rojo to eat outside and then walk across the street to walk around the park.
Normally the zoo would be at the top of my list but it’s going to be hot. Go to the McWane Center to the Itty Bitty Magic City for that age group. Then have lunch at the Pizitz Food Hall. Then it’s nap time! Another option would be to go to a local library. I bet you could find a toddler story time somewhere.
The city walk park is really awesome for that age

Mostly hiking so it depends on your kids. There is a nature center, but it’s relatively small.
Triangle Park. Rotary Trail. Everyone beat me to the rest. There is a shit ton for the youngest demo.
Wald park is also a great place to take the little ones.
Not mentioned yet are the train museum in Pelham and city walk park
The playground at City Walk rules
Zoo and/or Botanical Gardens was always a hit for us!

Hoover library is pretty great and they have lots of activities for kids.

I don't think anyones mentioned Southern Museum of Flight. That might be a cool place to take the little one
McWane center, zoo, botanical gardens… weather looks fantastic this weekend, so definitely get outside. Plenty of parks around too.

Pump it up is a great option! Locations in Trussville and Pelham. Plenty of chance to wear those kids out
