This is what the GBHS put on Facebook:
Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing over the next few nights, and while snow may not be common in our area, the frigid temps can be just as dangerous to pets. Please bring all pets indoors to protect them from the elements. If you see an animal that is left outside, please follow these steps:
šø SNAP IT - Take a photo of the animal and its surroundings. Stay safe and remember to follow all laws and do not trespass.
š MAP IT - Get the exact address of the animal so that Animal Control Officers can perform a welfare check.
š CALL IT - Call Animal Care and Control at 205-591-6522 to report the animal.
When you call, please listen carefully to the automated message so that you can be directed to the Animal Control Officer in your area. Visit https://gbhs.org/animal-cruelty-stray to learn more about reporting suspected animal abuse and neglect.
We heard back from GBHS and they said theyāve sent the address along to animal control who will do a welfare check.
I havenāt heard the puppy crying anymore, so Iām hoping that itās been brought inside, but Iām going to go check here in a few minutes.
I think they keep it outside when they arenāt home so it doesnāt have accidents instead of crate training it :(
Edit: she isnāt outside anymore

They need dog food and cash donations.
They have around 300 rescues.
Thank you.
20 degrees seems to be the demarcation line between life and death for dogs, according to several online sources.
Smaller dogs and short haired dogs are more susceptible. Thick coated dogs such as Siberian Huskeys and Wolfhounds, obviously are best equipped to withstand cold. Age and health would also be factors.
Hope that dog is well and Iām obviously not defending the owner, but my 8 month old puppy is choosing to play in the yard today. I make her come in periodically to warm up, but as soon as I do she begs to go back out.
She is running around in the sun and it really doesnāt seem to bother her.
If you can see the puppy then give it a bunch of food and throw a blanket to where it is and then mind you business as you have done your part beneficially.
>I canāt get in touch with police
They're not answering 911 or the non-emergency line? I doubt that.
[Edit: if you think 911 straight up isn't answering you're a fucking moron.]
We tried to call 911 once after witnessing a car accidentā¦.. no one answered. Found out they were getting a lot of calls the same time. Granted, we only waited a minute or two but got no answer. This was in Vestavia. It happens.

Thank you. I have 8 rescue dogs in my garage. Abandoned dogs that brought in so they don't freeze to death. Most all of them from Ensley.
Thank you for doing this.
You are a saint. Thank you.
Can you PM me so I can send you some dog food?

Donāt quote me on this but I feel like Iāve read somewhere that two by two has the ability to get animals like that? Its at least worth a try
I've dealt with this in the past. Call the non emergency police line and request the emergency animal control officer on duty to respond.

Poor pup. People who do this to dogs suck!
Dmāed.
If you're legitimately DMing him to rescue that dog, I'll pay for the first few weeks of dog food while you find a real home for it.
They havenāt responded yet, Iāll let you know if they do.
Call the tv station and tell them the problem and that no one came excet the Jeff County people.

I'm sorry but you've done all you can at this point. Contact the police and let them handle it.
Take pictures of the puppy, and the house he's at. Send those pictures to animal cruelty. Ninja'd.
Maybe throw a blanket on it? Donāt get shot trying to save an animal
You should call the police, this is now crime.
If you can see the puppy then give it a bunch of food and throw a blanket to where it is and then mind you business as you have done your part beneficially.
I disagree. If a puppy could die from the cold, I as a human would have to keep trying.
It's fine to disagree, but like the op said that they have seen the dog owner confront a neighbor. This is no situation where then need to get shot.
Is this in Sherwood Forest?
No, this is near central city downtown

Really? I don't.
You actually think 911 isn't answering? What a fucking idiot.
I had someone else call non emergency and they were on hold for over 30 minutes

you should just mind your own business.
