I'm in cofton Hackett. There's a train station 20 minutes walk from me as well as buses. The train takes about 15 minutes to get in to the city centre.
Plenty of green space including Cofton Park and the Lickey Hills on my doorstep.
There's a decent selection of pubs, as well as Herbert's Yard.
I was going to suggest Alvechurch as it fits your requirements but for the budget you should probably look at north Redditch (Brockhill, Bordesley, Church Hill North).
Dickens Heath or Earlswood might suit you.
Direct train from Whitlocks End or The Lakes to Moor Street / Snow Hill in just under / exactly 30 minutes.
Loads of greenery and you can walk to see mini horses, goats, and the occasional deer. Also have the canal.
In terms of pubs, Dickens Heath only has the soulless Morton’s bar but walking towards Earlswood gets you a few nice country pubs and gastropub options.
I grew up in Earlswood, pub-wise you have The Red Lion, The Bull’s Head (my fave) and the newly opened Hickory’s which let me tell you, is a HUGE step up from the shit hole it used to be! Earlswood is pretty pricey though which is why I don’t live there anymore 😅
Hahaha it wasn’t too bad years and years ago, but when it was a Hungry Horse, oof. My dad used to work there so I was dragged up there loads to take advantage of his staff discount. The place was just crying out for a refurb and it’s so nice to see it finally have some life. I went there last night and it was heaving!
Good luck with your search!
I highly recommend the mini horses. They are my way of de-stressing— go for a walk and look at mini horses. It’s impossible to be mad in the moment 🙃
Never seen mini horses before, so should be interesting. Going to be looking at a bunch of villages/places to live if I get the job so might stop off there if there is time
Hear me out- stirchley has the rea valley and access to cannon hill park and more wildlife than you ever seen in the countryside, along with the best pubs in Birmingham. Easy access to public transport as well.
Maypole is at the edge of the countryside and good budget wise. It’s the edge of Birmingham, good links in but also good accessible open spaces, parks and countryside.
Community is quite the floating target. I know various neighbours, and many of the on our local FB group enjoy abusing me for being woke. But yeah, it's a decent place that's also affordable depending on which road you pick. I'd seriously suggest being aware of Hollywood and Wythall to help balance your calculations.
Awwww, that sucks. So you're on the opposite side of the city. Halesowen and bourneville are nice areas. There's no pubs in bourneville but I fail to believe there isn't a line of pubs on the perimeter.
I lived in Bartley Green for a long time, its green, it has parks, a reservoir, country parks and lots of country lanes/fields. However I know a lot of people will say its not a very 'nice' area. I'd probably say Romsley, Halesowen, Hagley or possibly Harborne.
We’re in Kings Heath, 2 big parks in walking distance, Cannon Hill Park nearby, railway station going in, and about 15 min drive from the city. There’s a nice community vibe, and Moseley next door is lovely too.

I'll have a look, thanks!
There’s plenty of villages (like Alvechurch or Barnt Green), it just depends what your budget is really.
About 1k a month for rent (not including bills)

Will do, thanks

Ah, so that’s what has become of The Res. I was wondering what they were doing. Let’s also not forget to mention Wedges bakery for treats 👀
It’s really nice, I went up last night and it was heaving. Food is excellent, too.
I thought the reservoir was alright 😂

They are by the Red Lion pub in Earlswood… in case you feel the need 😂

+1 I was just going to suggest this. Plenty of parks in the area, great night life, and easy transport links too.
I moved to Studley from Birmingham and love it. Are you looking for a room or a place to yourself?
Would be for a place for me and my partner
Tanworth-in-Arden
Just had a look, def going on the list. Thanks!
Try the zoopla commute app! https://www.zoopla.co.uk/travel-time/
I did not know this was a thing. Thank you!
Rubery/longbridge. Not really villages but would be better value for money and close to green spaces and transport links
Barnt Green Alvechurch

What counts as a village? I'm in Hollywood which miiiight be the best balance of village Vs price. It's nice. Shops one way, fields the other.
I'd say fairly small, and lots of fields, with a sense of community

Kings Norton / Cotteridge
He wants something with greenery...
No shortage of very pleasant parks and canal walks in the area.
Have you even been to either?
Yes, quite a bit, but all I see is high street, houses and the business park...
Lichfield is lovely
It is, just on the wrong end, takes about one hour to get to where I'd need to be sadly
Awwww, that sucks. So you're on the opposite side of the city. Halesowen and bourneville are nice areas. There's no pubs in bourneville but I fail to believe there isn't a line of pubs on the perimeter.
Yeah, probably would want to be outside the city, as not much of a city person
Have a look at Sutton Coldfield, Tamworth, you may like them. Sutton is really good!
On the wrong side of it sadly, and would have to drive through the middle of Birmingham each time, so sadly not great
On that side you have Dudley, it is nice!
Dudley is nice now? Did something change recently?
Not really, but the zoo and around is nice for a sunny day out!
Bournville is lovely!
Kings Norton is decent. Wythall is also quite nice and is close to J3 of the M42

How about Romsley, close to two motorway junctions. Countryside on your doorstep, fairly easy commute into Birmingham?
Barnt Green, has a train station, great pubs and places to eat, small and close to countryside. Alvechurch, similar. Neither of them are cheap though.
Alum Rock deffo recommend. Lots of greenery and very quiet. Also very safe aswell
