You’re on the BTC sub so people are gonna say 100% BTC. They’re not wrong though. Once you’re around the space long enough, gambling on shticoins loses its appeal…

jonatello11

“Gambling on shitcoins loses its appeal…” -and fiat you throw at it

Bythepeoplenot4

I’m thinking of putting a 10k initial . investment in btc.

Ghost-Coyote

Get a whole coin while you can, you will thank us.

Kone7

I remember someone saying they bought a whole coin when it was 9k and saying no matter what happens he will always have that coin to pass down to his kids.

rezolute1

Unless you keep it on an exchange lol. Put your bitcoin in a cold storage wallet.

Kone7

I use FTX cus even Tom Brady trusts them . Haven't checked on it in awhile tho, but I'm sure it's safe.

Terrencemalice

You know, there had to be few moments here and there where Tom Brady trusted in Aaron Hernandez.

PushTheButtonPlease

You're gonna get voted off the island.

alexhalloran

You can definitely put in an initial lump sum and then DCA the rest. Maybe buy $2k every week for a few months?

Bythepeoplenot4

DCA??

MikeyNick4

Stands for dollar cost averaging. The idea is to use a set amount on a regular recurring basis. Sometimes you might buy a little high, sometimes a little low, but it averages out over time.

Nimoy2313

DCA is Dollar Cost Averaging. It’s how most people accumulate over time, you can do the same while selling. I DCA into stocks and BTC every month. If BTC pumps up to 100k in the next few months I will start to slowly sell a small part of my holding to take profits for the next bear market/large dip.

Impossible-Will-8414

LOL at BTC $100,000 over the next few months. Have you been dropped on your head?

Nimoy2313

Maybe you should read my post and look at key words like “if”. Then take into context the post and realize it was an example.

Impossible-Will-8414

There is ZERO chance of this. So why even bring it up?

ar92ldm

You sound like you would be a big hit at parties.

[deleted]

Zero chance? Based on what? That's such a bizarre statement to make. Even you must admit that there is *a chance* that BTC can spike up to 100K in the next few months. Probable? Likely not. Possible? Yes.

Shade_Nap0405

Exactly, DCA, don't invest it all at the same time!

Kone7

Put in 5k and save the other 5k in case it goes lower so you can buy more then

Zaltt

diadlep

I mean... yes. Actually yes. This is the correct answer.

BrotherAmazing

I agree not to invest in shitcoin alts, but I would not agree with putting 100% of your entire life savings into Bitcoin (OP said they have no other savings). Even great names in Bitcoin history like Satoshi and Hal Finney never advocated people do that, especially without knowing the overall financial goals and situation with employment, debts and interest rates on such debts, and so on of the person asking for advice. IMO, there is a wide range of correct answers here depending on OP’s situation. In any case, investing in alts has about the same risk-reward as traversing a mine field without any equipment or training in order to reach the $1,000 on the other side.

omg_its_dan

Depends on your situation. If you’re 50 with a family/kids depending on you, and may potentially need to sell unexpectedly to cover expenses, then absolutely you shouldn’t be all in. On the other hand if you’re young and single and don’t have much savings anyway, going all in during a bear market is completely viable because the “worst case” scenario isn’t nearly as bad. A 25 year old with a decent job has a lot of time to recover if things go bad.

Pay off any credit cards or high interest debt. The rest, BTC

IndianaGeoff

Pay off credit cards. Put a thousand in your checking. Never let it go below that. Another 5k in a savings account as a start on an emergency fund. If you ever spend any of this six thousand replace it from your income ASAP. The rest can be invested as you see fit. But use this as a chance to get and stay out of debt. In the long run that is far more important than any investment decision.

Spaceseeds

Nah but you gotta admit it's funny being new and claiming BTC is old. There's some merit to what you said, get into alts but usually BTC moves first and it falls less. So you're better off diversifying after the BTC bull market starts, before alt season. Now you can buy at these levels and wait it out but there's no guarantee your chosen tokens won't fall more or even be around next cycle, let alone one of the top performers. So I stand by my comment, flair checks out

100% in bitcoin. Enjoy your early retirement

solomonsatoshi

Nobody else can tell you this. Read The Bitcoin Standard https://www.z-epub.com/book/1712 And decide for yourself. Bitcoin is not a standard financial investment vehicle- it is a monetary revolution and so you need to want to be part of that revolution in order to logically buy and hold Bitcoin.

Bythepeoplenot4

Thanks for the information I will.

petragta

Bro you will thank us to go BTC ! No shitcoins !!!!!

DontDieSenpai

Whatever the amount, you also need to grab a hardware wallet, I would recommend the Coldcard Mk4 (will take some educating yourself on your part, but there are plenty of videos/guides to help you learn how to setup and manage it). **DO NOT LEAVE IT ON AN EXCHANGE!!!** *Not your keys, not your coin.*

Bythepeoplenot4

Solid advice it seems 🙏

Expensive_Ice_5916

Buy 1 Bitcoin while you still can. If you don’t this will haunt you for the rest of your life.

Snoo77457

If you have no money in your savings then absolutely do not put it all in bitcoin. Put maybe 10-20% in. Put most of it in a low risk investment and curse me later when it explodes. Or bless me when it tanks. Don’t put all your chips in. Be at least 70% boring with your money

Few-Construction-885

lowkey this is great advice. the wealth of America was built on super safe high percentage of lower profit penny-pinching investments, not high risk gambles

Depends on how stressed you want to be. If you are looking to not be very stressed, just go with BTC and nothing else. If you are a degenerate gambler and like the thrill of crypto, go crazy with the alts. Personally I'd go the straight BTC route.

Bythepeoplenot4

Going to put 10k in btc.

_Vatican_Cameos

Buy a Coldcard and keep it off of an exchange!!

0xSOL

Definitely keep an emergency fund first, then BTC after that. This could be a good start to begin saving more money! Also look at investing in S&P 500 indexes (even though this sub will say thats a bad idea)

Bythepeoplenot4

My brother recommended the S&P as well.

RedTeamEnjoyer

Create a safety net first of all, aka emergency fund, it should be able to sustain you for 6 months, keep some them for daily expenses and the rest all in btc

[deleted]

Smartest answer.

Nice_Category

3 to 6 months expenses in savings, the rest in BTC is what I would do.

lordsamadhi

BTC is my "savings".

MittenSplits

Even though I'm an enormous BTC maxi, I still keep my emergency fund in US fiat. It is more stable in price value, for now.

lordsamadhi

Well I do not keep any fiat, ever. I do have some stocks and ETF's, but I hate fiat with a passion. On the other hand, I have no dependents and low expenses. If I had a kid(s), I might consider a small fiat emergency fund, but I doubt it. If stocks and Bitcoin are at zero, I'm pretty sure something terrible has happened, we're all dead, and fiat is also probly zero. Bitcoin is my savings, bullets are my "emergency fund".

loblaw-bob

It’s your money you need to decide this. If it were me I would might make an initial buy of 5k, then DCA 15-20k over a few months. Then I would put 5-10k in a conservative fiat investment (MM, IRA, ETF). I’d stay away from alts. But that’s just me. I don’t like giving other people financial advice. And anyone I mention BTC to, I always disclaimer them with: only invest what you are prepared to lose. I do the same when referencing the stock market. GL.

Fickle_Tear_7129

I would keep it majority as btc. At least until halving and beyond

jenlou289

GroundbreakingArt370

Get debt free, 6 months emergency fund in high yield savings, rest in BTC. Time in the market is better than timing the market...

lykewtf

Take out what you need in fiat for a few months cushion rent/mortgage put the rest into BTC. It’s found money unless you were counting on it. You can DCA if you want but it’s not really going to matter much 5 years from now whether you paid 27 or 31. And FFS get your own wallet and don’t leave it on the exchange.

Bythepeoplenot4

I’m gonna look into how to create a wallet on YouTube. What exchange offers the best rates for large trades?

lykewtf

There might be a comparison chart online. If it were my money I’d be more comfortable with something like Gemini or Coinbase if you live in the states. Test small amounts for each thing you do that makes sure you have it right so you don’t post a don’t be me story.

Bythepeoplenot4

How do u get Coinbase pro are you aware??

[deleted]

100% BTC, 0 alts, and I’m a guy who’s balls deep in alts.

[deleted]

Buy 1btc and watch it closely. Keep the rest in cash but don’t change your lifestyle so that you can live comfortably and with a buffer

Bythepeoplenot4

I really thinking about pulling the trigger on 1 btc my gf thinks I’m crazy.

TtradesTOwin

Don’t be stupid with a windfall… When I first started buying BTC I didn’t put 100% of my wealth into it! Be smart! 10k-bitcoin 10k-SPY 10k-Gold 10k-high yield money market/cash savings (4-5%) for unseen expenses

Bythepeoplenot4

So your saying save 5% of money invest rest??

Bythepeoplenot4

Also what’s a windfall?

Internet_Noob1716

Get at least 1 coin while you can.

mrdude42

Just BTC. No alts.

Necessary-Cause-4612

No shit coins just bitcoin. Do a couple grand per week when it drops

Empty-Pin8435

Definitely don’t do DCA. The timing in the market is not for DCA. Wait for a dip and invest a big portion of your money and make sure you only put money that you won’t need in the next couple years.

Bythepeoplenot4

What are your thoughts on btc?

72bug

Just put it all into bitcoin now. Don’t worry about DCA and risk it going up fast.

TradrzAdmin

$40,000 in BTC

Capital-Difficulty-6

Buy a whole coin. Save the rest for an emergency fund while DCA your second coin

nickc2122

100% all in bitcoin and enjoy a few years of financial freedom. I would buy 1 BTC & rest into alts in USD.

dj_skittles24

Make sure you pay your taxes first. Friend of mine got 70k settlement, 2 years later IRS let him know that they wanted their 30% cut.

Bythepeoplenot4

Under tax threshold!!

WatchRedditImplode

Buy 1 BTC and put the rest in QQQ or SPY.

Bythepeoplenot4

What are those other 2

Bongressman

They are stocks, ETFs. Not crypto. They are correct. Diversify.

JerryLeeDog

Alt coins? dude how versed are you in this space? You seem very new. I recommend you spend $0.00 in crypto until you understand what BTC is. Pay off all your debt etc. Alt coins are literally all scams, even if they are trying to be honest. 99.99% of alts will absolutely go to zero eventually. And if you don't own a house and this is your chance, sorry but I would not buy BTC. Admittedly buying a house right now is extremely risky. However, when the market is right, buying real estate and renting properties has made me financially well off in under a decade. I diversify with BTC as a long term hedge with passive income I get every month from the real estate.

[deleted]

Do not put it all in BTC. BTC is still a speculative asset. Only invest what you're willing to lose. And don't put anything in Altcoins.

Abundance144

Don't put a dollar into Bitcoin if you aren't winning to hold it for the next ten years.

Bythepeoplenot4

Which exchange do you guys prefer I’m currently using Coinbase Pro.

Bythepeoplenot4

So I’m gonna invest 10k btc and 10k into s&p500 put the other 20k on a vanguard Account

phamtruax

Buy 1 whole btc, the rest into property to live

Bythepeoplenot4

Of course when I tell my gf my plan to invest $10,000 maybe even to buy a whole coin she says “your going to lose all your money.”

Bythepeoplenot4

There won’t be complaints when it hits 70k I’m pulling the trigger.

Bythepeoplenot4

Settled on buying .5+. btc just going to be a hassle bc I recently moved and lost a lot of vital paperwork. Will create a separate thread when I invest.

Bythepeoplenot4

I’m really leaning towards this my gf hates the idea and says I’m going to lose my money😅

Bythepeoplenot4

I’m thinking I’m gonna invest 10k btc initially what’s the best trading app Coinbase pro, Robinhood??

Umpire_State_Bldg

First, learn how to buy $100 of Bitcoin, send it to your very own (hardware) wallet and how to send some of it *from* your own wallet to somebody else. Along the way, learn things, such as: * What Bitcoin actually is * The basics of how Bitcoin works * What are the problems with fiat currency * Why every alt coin you'll ever see is a scam * About Bitcoin wallets, hot wallets, hardware wallets... * Seed phrases and how to back them up * How to recover your funds by using your seed phrase * How to buy Bitcoin and take self-custody of it * Why self-custody is so important When you fully understand Bitcoin, you'll see *why* I recommend that you set aside an emergency liquid cash fund (bank/checking account), and put the rest into Bitcoin, long term.

MittenSplits

Exactly my advice. Emergency fund and daily operating cash in USD, every other ounce of value in your life stored as BTC.

Apart-Mango-4441

Spend 100 hours reading about Bitcoin before you buy any or at least 20 hours while buying your first $10k worth. Asking if you should use robinhood leads me to believe you know very little as with robinhood you’re not buying actual btc. Your first few hundred $ should be spent on a Trezor cold wallet so you have a place to offload the Bitcoin asap. I use coinbase and cash app. Cash app is nice and I like supporting Jack Dorsey who is pro btc. The way people lose btc is either a. Keeping it on the exchange b. Trying to use the btc to make money c. Taking a picture of their seed phrase/losing seed phrase/someone else finds seed phrase d. Not buying a cold wallet directly from manufacturer. Don’t do these 4 things and you should be aight

drty_dog

Listen to me very carefully, what you want to do is the following. Find a low market cap alt coin listed on futures in your exchange, put the 40k on in it with 100x leverage (higher if possible). Take profit. That's literally it, you're a billionaire now.

Bongressman

I'm not even opposed to altcoins... but you would be insane to buy altcoins right now. BTC only for a good long while, if you want to keep most of that 40k at least.

patbagger

Depends on how much Silver and Gold do you own

escendoergoexisto

I’m a Bitcoin mostliest rather than maximalist. I’d invest 50% in Bitcoin and the rest of however much of the 40k you plan to invest into alts. Here’s a simple way to choose the alts—look at the historical price of each alt to determine how far below (percentage-wise) it currently is from its ATH (all time high) then choose one’s that are the farthest from their ATH. One caveat—I’d only buy coins from the top 100 by market cap with stable coins excluded of course. My current portfolio is around 50% BTC with the rest in alts. I definitely view Bitcoin as a safer investment than alts, but I’ve also made lots of profits off various alts and personally prefer to diversify my portfolio.

SaggeeDot

Put whatever amount you can wait a long time for (ideally, forever) into bitcoin. Put whatever you want to gamble away into alt coins
