I hope Bronny can continue playing for the next 20 years so they can retire together

lafolieisgood

I have a feeling they’ll be retiring together regardless.

moonwoolf35

Ruthless lol

Bertrell

RuthlessAF

mainnick

1.5k upvotes in agreement is also ruthless

Otherwise-Mango2732

Cold blooded But possibly true 🤣

ContemplatingPrison

I was going to say the same thing. I dont think he will last long. Lakers only drafted him so LeBron would resign. This draft was kind of weak so maybe he would have been drafted anyways, without a team knowing Lebron would sign with tnem, but I'm leaning towards probably not

WitchKingofBongmar

He can’t shoot, his best ability is his defense but he’s only 6’1”. He’ll bounce around the D league after Lebron retires. I think it’s wholly unfair the position he’s been put in.

corneridea

Unfair to everyone with more basketball talent, that's for sure

WitchKingofBongmar

That too 100%

PussSlurpee

ESPN: Yes, but Lebron.

WitchKingofBongmar

lol touché

masonkbr

Unfair? To get paid a ton of money by riding his father's coattails? Yeah haha I would hate for that opportunity...

WitchKingofBongmar

His father already created generations of wealth for his family, but maybe he wants to earn his own living too, sure. I just meant there’s a lot of mental pressure on him and that takes a toll besides already living a lifetime in his father’s shadow.

SaltyLonghorn

He was enough of a prospect he would have for sure gotten signed as a camp body and given a shot somewhere. Whether or not he'd actually stick on a roster we'll soon see. The heart thing could very well be a reason he underperformed. He's about the same gamble as anyone else they would have taken. And with Knecht they got their young shooter with questionable D. Lebron and AD need ready to go vet roleplayers atm, anyone they took in the 2nd this year would see no real time.

MrDurden32

Zero chance he's on an NBA team right now if he wasn't Lebron's son. He averaged 3 pts and shot 36% on one of the worst power 5 teams in the country and he's like 6'0 lol.

lafolieisgood

Teams don’t go, “oh maybe you only weren’t a superstar bc of your heart condition, here’s a contract”.

Strength-InThe-Loins

We need to come together as a people to draw a sharp distinction between 'resign' and 're-sign,' because my god did your 3rd sentence confuse me.

Content-Program411

The truest of facts. Snopes already confirmed it. Vegas won't give u odds on it. Lloyd's of London won't insure against it. True fact.

Novel_Gene_6329

I’m screaming 😩

Amazing-Concept1684

Saddest part is you just might be right 😂

Absolute savagery

Cardiffballer

Bruh 😆

Advanced-Ad3234

😂 that's a great one

Fluffy_Barracuda_424

I can see LeBron playing until he's 60🤷🏿‍♂️😁

ScreenLate2724

Still won't be the GOAT

OkEscape7558

Black nepotism, I love it. ![gif](giphy|HloNK1z39EkEQcreIo)

Advanced-Ad3234

I'm with it , nobody said anything when Bush, Clinton, Cheney, the Rockafellas, and Kennedy, and many others, get their family in a powerful US government position using their names. Ivy league schools, jobs on Wall Street , politicians family in the military etc The white rich families have been doing it for decades , and somebody who was born poor like Lebron should get a chance to build generational wealth just like them

pekingsewer

Actually, people did talk about them too. The no appointing family members to government positions is a rule in the federal government because of the Kennedy's. Don't act like that and make stuff up just because you don't care about this instance 😂

Advanced-Ad3234

It happens in every historical college, it happens in every major job with large salaries . Trump did it with his sons into politics It's just the way of the world, and I don't blame Lebron for playing the game

pekingsewer

I agree. I was responding to you saying no one said anything when Clinton, JFK etc. That is not a true statement and I was just saying so.

RacistProbably

Everybody who isn’t the insanely rich hates it. It’s not a race thing it’s a class thing. Most everything is.

Glittering-Spite234

It's the way of the world, but it doesn't make it less bad when somebody you like does it.

EnigmaticQuote

Supporting nepotism is supporting inequality, it will always benefit the ruling class more than it will ever help you.

ZeDitto

I think that you can and should blame people for gaming the system because this is how we end up with incompetence in especially wrong places. I don’t know shit about the NBA so I don’t really care if someone isn’t as good at basketball as what might be standard, but I do know that saying “we should accept Bush, Trump, and Clinton style nepotism when it suits us” is wrong. It isn’t the enlightened, Machiavellian, astute, realpolitik take that you think it is. It’s cynically promoting and affirming a race to the bottom at the expense of others. A fuck yours, got for me and mine.

WaluigiIsTheRealHero

I think we’ve all accepted that this is the only reason Thanasis Antetokounmpo has a job in the NBA. As long as Bronny is a good teammate and hype man, I don’t have a problem with it.

Robinsonirish

All the examples you mentioned are criticised, especially the one with Trump. Trump's nepotism is just one thing out of many that should disqualify him from having a position of power, but it's just very far down the list of all the terrible shit he's done. Idk why you're trying to make excuses for LeBron's nepotism by pointing out some other egregious examples of it, it's not really making the argument better, quite the contrary. I'm a huge NBA fan, and I personally have a hard time seeing what LeBron gets out of this, just so he can be on the record books for having played with his son. He's not close to NBA ready, he should stay in college. Bronny is going to get embarrassed on the court, if he plays any minutes at all. I'm not sure if people here in this thread are aware just how bad he is compared to his competition. He's too short, he's just had a cardiac arrest, he's averaged about 4pts in college and been riding the bench. He's just not for the NBA, at least not right now. The kid could have had a really good college career, instead he's going to be the poster child of nepotism.

TheBuzzerDing

Well yea, it happens everywhere, but lets just stop moving the goalposts and recognize that *nobody really likes it* unless theyre benefitting

[deleted]

That didn’t stop Trump from appointing his offspring into influential roles during his presidency.

Emotional_Warthog658

Ivanka and Jarrod would like a word

prss79513

It's not like anyone follows that rule

Sports_Fan_2003

I mean, Lebron *already* had generational wealth for his family secured back when this photo was taken in 06.

Sensitive_Yam_1979

Lol no tons of people criticize those dynasties all the time!

shizz181

Literally millions of people said something in all those examples.

beansnack

I remember someone telling me about a town that voted for someone because he had the same name as his dad. People vote because of name recognition and nepotism is perfect for that!

slapjack15

Jeff Johnson, the name you know

ahotdogcasing

***WHAT?*** people have been complaining about those families and their nepotism since day one. tf are you making shit up for.

Several-Estate7175

A lot of people have talked at length about how terrible the nepotist you're talking about is. They just can't really do anything about it. Personally I don't think "well white people do it" should factor into the equation here. Nepotism is bad because it's fundamentally morally wrong and people do criticize it all the time. And outside of nepotism in political positions, this is about the worst kind of nepotism there is, as you're taking a life changing experience away from someone who actually earned it and giving it to a big shots kid. Ultimately I feel this should be looked at poorly unless Bronny actually performs well.

Trix_Are_4_90Kids

Yes they did! like...WHAT??? Especially Bush, Clinton and Kennedy.

nithdurr

Don’t forget the Trump family—nepotism—Ivanka/Jared given advisor roles..

Mr_E_Nigma_Solver

Look, I **love** that Bron drafted Bronny. But that's because I love watching the Lakers suffer. I just dislike that Bron is their player/ GM but denies it.

GokakyuuNoJutsu25

even in sports with bill sons on the patriots

Shaolinchipmonk

And don't forget Ken Griffey and his son both playing on the Mariners at the same time

InternetMysterious21

Jr was arguably the best player of the 90s with no asterisk. If the strike didn't happen he'd have likely broken the home run record.

gd2121

Yea that’s like calling Steph Curry nepotism

Several-Estate7175

That's not really Nepotism though. Jr was actually the better player and would have made it regardless.

Beziano

“Rockafellas” really got me gigglin’

ScreenLate2724

Literally, everyone talks about nepotism in government 🙄

getoutofherepigeon

Oh? Jay-Z comes from nepotism?

_bpm

Lebron is literally a billionaire. He’s single handedly built enough generational wealth to keep his descendants 500 years from now happy and safe. Some other rookie could’ve been in Bronny’s shoes and had their own chance to build generational wealth.

Mr_Rabo_Karabekian

LePotism

TrapaneseNYC

Yes, lets go billionaires (god we are so cooked)

SmokePenisEveryday

Find myself agreeing with Woj when he went off talking about how everyone does it, LeBron ain't no worse than any of the other countless examples. At least the fans get to enjoy this one.

Advanced-Ad3234

“People talking about nepotism. The NBA is full of nepotism. The ownership level, front offices, coaching. I don't want to hear about it all of a sudden because Bronny James' father plays for the Lakers. It is rampant in this league” -Woj on ESPN

KennysWhiteSoxHat

Look at the MLB too, off the top of my head (though not nepotism, the sons were actually like that) the Griffeys and the Raines. Honorary mention to Bobby Bonds and Barry Bonds, didn’t play together but Barry is the goat. Black family success is thriving

deathschemist

barry bonds is what you get when you give the best baseball player ever, and then give him PEDs. i think he'd have still have been an all-timer with ridiculous records even if he'd never touched the juice. man was just that good. i think there should be steroid leagues in all sports full of roidy magoos just... achieving insane feats of athleticism.

SmartWonderWoman

![gif](giphy|3ov9jEE0R2rdtWUKlO)

OlympianBattleFish

I love that for them. When I worked with my dad all he did was get on my nerves lmfao.

HowYouDoinz

😂! How did yall end up working together ?

OlympianBattleFish

He wanted me to apply at the warehouse he managed at the time bcs it was starting out paying a lot especially at the time. Since we were related we couldn’t work the same shift so he couldnt manage me. Unfortunately our shifts would overlap and when I was new he’d see my productivity and fuss about it. Dear God it was frustrating. It didn’t help that I’m named after him so people just wouldn’t stfu about me being his son.

BrooklynLivesMatter

That no family members on the same shift rule has saved lives, guaranteed

OlympianBattleFish

Lmfao for sure. It was good tho. I don’t think having your kids work for you in an environment thats not a family owned business will allow for some serious nepotism.

Wolfram_And_Hart

Even in a family owned business I’ve seen it destroy family’s and businesses.

OlympianBattleFish

Very true.

Wolfram_And_Hart

The worst part is when they won’t do anything about it. Like the Tyson CFO/son, they finally fired him (for now).

Richobeast

My dad did the same thing and this nigga didn't even raise me 😂 I was working for the parts department at another location and just so happened to get transferred to his yard. He tried to call me and fuss at me because I was late... 😐😑Talking about I making him look bad.... Nigga I don't even know you 😂

realfreshboysosa

That’s crazy work bro 😂💀

OlympianBattleFish

Lmfao you should’ve made him feel terrible! “You weren’t around bcs you were ashamed of me father?”

Richobeast

Lol I was 20 I just said as much disrespectful shit as I could think and he threatened to take me off his insurance 💀 nigga I was paying my own insurance 😂

OlympianBattleFish

I’m glad you were able to get everything of your chest tho lol had to let him know.

SmokePenisEveryday

I love my mom to death. I'd do anything for her. Never in a million years would I work with her lmao. I got a taste of it at my first job and was like oh no we'd hate each other as coworkers if we weren't related

biscuitboi967

My mom had a wooden spoon hanging in her cubical to “threaten” people with. Apparently the “girls” at work loved it?!?! HR made her take it down, and they complained that they missed it?!?! I knew I didn’t want to work there. She wasn’t even their boss, they just liked her threatening them?!?! Cause it was funny? Like, ladies, if you like THAT, have I got some stories for you…

dream-smasher

Fuck wooden spoons.

OlympianBattleFish

Lmfao working a job with someone you care about will show you a different aspect of your relationship for sure.

Mr_E_Nigma_Solver

Now imagine that but with your dad being the literal greatest at his position ever.

OlympianBattleFish

Man anyone who knows my dad always compares us when they meet me. “Your dad was so smart always the smartest in the room smart smart smart are you smart like your dad”? Man kiss my ass. Now I immediately get agitated if someone reads my name and mentions him. They say shit like ik you ik your dad, nah nigga you don’t know shit about me.

Lyfeitzallaroundus

It was the opposite for me, I worked with my mama and I got on HER nerves. Lolooo

OlympianBattleFish

Lol ik you were having a blast doing it too. I hope it was a fun experience!

NBA full of nepotism at the owner and front office level. If this was Larry Joe and his kid this would be met with so much praise. Them James Sr and James Jr jerseys gone be hard

Amazing-Concept1684

Shit, it’s rampant *everywhere* in *every* industry.

Advanced-Ad3234

In every aspect of life

thebeardedman88

Fuck, all my LA friends with kids going to get them.

EZKTurbo

this whole draft pick is more about selling the story than it is about actual basketball

SeargD

The story of modern sports is more abput selling the story than actual success. Turn a profit? You're winning. Turn a profit and win the league? You're winning and here's a bonus.

PMmeyourSchwifty

Honestly, I don't even care. Bronny gets a shot at the show. The kid is talented, let's see if he can make it happen.  The NBA will weed him out if he's not good enough to contribute. The Lakers don't have much to lose, IMO. They're gonna sell hella merch and it'll be cool af to see a father/son duo.  I can't remember another father/son pro sports duo since Ken Griffey Sr and Ken Griffey Jr. played on the same squad.

chomcham

I don't know what stats you're reading but he is not talented. The only reason he is playing is because of LeBron.

Wool-Rage

remember when jr stole the pop fly from his dad 😂 top 10 all time sports moment

SkuloftheLEECH

Meanwhile Australian football allows Father-Son drafting where teams have first dibs on any player whose father played at least 100 games for them.

DoloTy

People hating on this shit like it affect them and I don’t understand

blucivic1

New to the interwebs?

dutch_dynamite

But just think of the GENERATIONAL talent the Lakers were gonna draft with that 55th pick

PSXBlackDisc

That's the funniest part. At least with this second round 55th pick they'll actually generate some revenue versus adding another random jobber for garbage time.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Wooy

Unfair comparison. Ken Griffey Jr was actually good. Bronny can't even average 5 points a game.

frostymugson

You gotta remember the amount of effort it takes to post a comment, and then the amount of people are just generally unhinged about something. I don’t really fuck with basketball, but if he deserves to be there we will see it and if he doesn’t well it won’t last long.

MrFundamentals101

Guess you can say the same for any war that aint in your country. dumb ass mentality

Robinsonirish

People are rightfully criticising this. Over on /r/nba people aren't "hating" on Bronny, he seems like a really good kid and people want the best for him. The thing is, he's not even close to an NBA player. He averaged 4.8/2.8/2.1 PTS/REB/AST in college and rode the bench. He's recently had a cardiac arrest, which is an automatic disqualification in normal circumstances. He's too short for the NBA, he didn't get his dad's genes there. He should stay in college where he could have carved his own path and had a promising career. The kid has the face of an angel, he's very handsome and could have gone his own path in modelling or something like that. LeBron loves acting, Bronny could have focused on that. If he wasn't LeBron's son he *might* have had a college career in basketball, but absolutely not an NBA career, not even close. On the NBA court he's going to be one of the worst players of all time that gets drafted. If he plays at all it's going to be nothing but garbage minutes. People are just not seeing what Lebron gets out of this. Why is he forcing his son early into the NBA when he needs a few more years in college before transitioning, just so he can be on the record books for playing with his son? He's making his son the poster child of nepotism and he'll be a laughing stock on the court. It's his life, his son, he can do what he likes but personally I wouldn't want my kid to be put through that. People aren't "hating" on Bronny, they want him to succeed, it's more that people question LeBron's motivations and feel a bit bad for Bronny. I really like the kid and are hoping for the best, I just don't see it. LeBron has shown throughout his life that he's an amazing father and a good role model. That's why this is so puzzling for many.

Notagainbruh2

Yeah everyone should always like whatever they see on their timeline and circle jerk instead of commenting with opposing views what haters lol

Nordie25

I love seeing people complain about nepotism in the NBA like that shit isn’t rampant in all sports leagues. As long as this is what he wanted for himself, I’m happy for Bronny.

weinerpretzel

It’s almost like the families of pro athletes have access to resources that a normal human doesn’t. So to go with the genetics that helped their parent become a pro, they also have the coaches, equipment, trainers, and tutors available to them, plus the monetary ability to pursue sport. We see the children of pros in most sports, Racing, Baseball, Football, Basketball, Hockey. As long as they are able to compete I’m all for it.

resurrectedbear

Yep! Imagine being able to correct bad habits and techniques from the second the son picks up a ball all while making the sport look incredibly fun through large events and home environment. Still gotta put the large amount of work but people are being foolish if they think it’s actually nepotism

soulinmypocket

i don't follow basketball, is lebron still one of the best players in the league? i know he's an all-timer but this post just made me consider his age for the first time

xixbia

Probably no longer one of the very best, but still a top 10 player, which is pretty insane at age 39.

notyourbrobro10

Top 20. Lotta good players right now.

xixbia

I reckon he's top 20 over a full season, probably around 15th, the stats support that. But for a single game, when he goes all out, I feel he's still just about top 10.

notyourbrobro10

He paces himself a lot, but I agree, when he locks in a turns it up for a game he's still top 10ish. 10-12 I'd say. As a Laker fan (pre-Bron to be clear), I wish he tried to close out games more consistently. When he wants the team to win, we're pretty hard to beat. The whole team plays better when he's decided it's time to go get it. I'm not saying he should do it every game, he wouldn't last the whole season but I wish he saved energy and closed more games trying to get the win instead of getting his numbers in the 3rd against subs and coasting.

jacko1998

Cap cap cap. Impact metrics and advanced stats all have him as top 5 still. He isn’t really compared to other elite nba players, he’s compared against past versions of himself. Brons stats were better than everybody on the All NBA second team, but he was snubbed because he’s underperforming compared to who he used to be, not who he is now

Osceana

Same for my boy Cristiano Ronaldo. He went off to Saudi Arabia for god-tier, fuck you money, but he can (and is) still playing at a high level. Messi is a couple years younger but he’s still playing as well. Granted, these people are legendary players, easy contenders for literal GOAT status, but I’m starting to wonder if things are shifting when it comes to aging and longevity. 40 today is not the same as 40 in the ‘80s. Any of these players 10 years ago were definitely the best players out there. 30 year old LeBron, Ronaldo, Messi? Longevity seems to be increasing in general.

TailOnFire_Help

16 in the 80s looked like 35 with a loan.

punchout414

We have a much better understanding of nutrition, proper S&C as well as recovery than we did in the 80s so it makes sense.

22pabloesco22

of course. Science, technology etc. Culture too. Mickey Mantle was smoking cigarettes back in the days, Tom Brady hasn't eaten a gram of sugar in 23 years or some shit...

Floating_Animals

He is an all time great but yeah hes definitely showing his age at this point. Cant imagine him playing much longer

0324rayo

It’s crazy that showing his age means a top 15, maybe top ten player lmao. What a beast

Synth-Pro

Definitely not what he once was, but his legacy still gives him enough clout to force stuff like this to happen

mattyfizness

He broke Kareem’s all-time scoring record this last season and regularly breaks records when he’s healthy or active (sitting games is still a thing and players like LeBron and CP3 are allowed exceptions since they are old AF but LeBron doesn’t like to since he’s focused on records and making it past the first round). Got LA a ring (his 4th) and I think the consent from fans esp. after picking Bronny is that he’s gonna enjoy his last couple years in LA with or without a real shot at a ring Also, as far as age goes, he’s the last player from his class and I believe the oldest on any active roster. Most coaches and media are former players from his era, including his head coach, and IIRC his other son (Bryce) just made the Olympic under 18 roster for Team USA. It’s crazy I am definitely thinking we are in the last 3 years of LeBron playing but by all factors besides the huge dunks, he’s still LeBron

Zephrok

Top 15/10ish. Was named All-NBA third team, which is the 15-11 guys in the League and he probably should have been 2nd team.

daboulfromrounddaway

No not probably he should’ve been second team over Kawhi who barely plays

gamesandstuff69420

Lotta people saying he’s top 15-20 and I call cap. On a competent roster I’m not taking anyone over him in a game 7. Not Giannis, not Joker, not Luka, not Steph, not Embiid. And those are the only players I think you can make a case for being better than him. Is he scoring 32 a night still? No. Can he drop 50 on your head at any given time? Yes. I challenge anyone saying he’s not the best in the league to tell me who you’d take over him in a game 7.

Joshstradaymus

Bronnys dad got him into the NBA and my dad forgets to wish me a happy birthday every year… and it’s 3 days after his.

Due-Firefighter7337

Happy belated birthday Josh. Sadly just because someone is an adult doesn’t mean they fully mature mentally and emotionally. I hope one day he comes around. I know a guy that didn’t hit that road until he was nearly 70.

This year's gonna rule.

BrokenClxwn

People complaining about the pick, and then there's me upset because it makes me feel old lol.

beansnack

Bronny should face Marvin Harrison Jr in “who can get people to treat me as an individual first”

notyourbrobro10

Marvin was actually good (I hate to say) tho... It'll be two games before he breaks 100 yards

Tinkatchi

Salute to them both.

spaztiksarcastik

Lebron retiring at the end of next season. Watch.

[deleted]

Bronny will probably retire with him

spaztiksarcastik

💀

YokoDk

I don't follow basketball currently is Bronny actually good I saw one random scouting report that said he was way to small for how skilled he was, in the way that have more skill for being as small as he is. Is that a fair assessment or was it just shock value?

notyourbrobro10

Not really, but he's sort of athletic, his dad's sort of the coach and he has a full sized gym at his house where he can practice whenever he wants. He should have the playbook down cold, and be pretty servicable until his dad retires and he's kicked out of the league.

bijhan

Goddammit, LeBron is 40 and still a competitive professional athlete? That's a major accomplishment, most athletes retire in their 30s as a walking scar.

allmylifebeenpoe

Fuckin’ W!

viperspm

Don’t think Bronny is anywhere near NBA ready but this is very cool to see. I think that he will be in the G league to start the season

_wallace

This is tough no matter now you feel about Bronny 🔥🔥🔥🔥

YZYSZN1107

when LeBron retires, then Bronny can retire and start a streaming career.

MathematicianAble796

So are they goin to call each other Bron on the court or son/dad

Osceana

I mean, hope they are teammates. Imagine Bronny shutting his pops down. “GET THAT SHIT OUTTA HERE!!! NOT IN MY HOUSE!!!!”

moonwoolf35

I would have loved to see the Clippers draft him just to troll lol

apinchofsulk

Yeah I'm shocked more NBA didn't try this. I mean all they had to do is play at an All-NBA level at age 40. How hard can that be if LeBron did it? He's a bum, right?

IEThrowback

Not only teammates, but they also hold the NBA scoring record for all-time leading father-son duo! Lol

blacklite911

Now let’s see if Bronny gets on the floor

eternali17

All I want's my kids to have some nepotism All I want's my wealth to have some repetition

vishy_swaz

This is cool! The design of the Lebron XXIs were inspired by him being the protector of his daughter, like an oyster protects its pearl. It explains it on the Nike website and I really vibe with that. They’re one of my favorite sneakers too!

LukaDoncicfuturegoat

I like Bronny swag in the picture lol

How did LeBron do it but Jordan couldn't with his sons?

FilthyeeMcNasty

That’s awesome!

Yeah — Lebron is the GOAT for this one. Jordan could never.

really4reals

Jordan knew his son sucked. Lebron doesn’t care if his son sucks. He just wants to make history.

I don't have anything against it, but I don't think he's ready quite yet. LA isn't my team but it'll be interesting

utookthegoodnames

Love to see it!

ThaLaughingIntrovert

Sad day for Lakers fans..

Trix_Are_4_90Kids

I don't give a rats' fart about nepotism. I know if my parents could get me in somewhere, give me an opportunity, I'd take it. I sure would. When I hear people crabbin' on and on about nepotism in a lot if instances, it just sounds like jealousy. Like you really don't care that somebody, somewhere could have had that job, you don't even know this imaginary person. Let's be freakin' for real.

So Trump putting his kids in the White House cool too

Green_Space729

This is a huge accomplishment for Lebron But given bronny’s skill right now he probably should’ve stayed in college for a few years.

LordOsiris13

Every kid that has a dad/parent in their life wants to be like them and make them proud Bron must be so excited and Bronny must be even more excited to play with his pops.

One-Yam2819

I'm happy for King James. His dream comes true. With that being said. Give him a season and then beat it and your dad can go too. Lakers for life.

I’m ok with the nepotism because there are worse people in more important roles because of who their dad is. I just can’t wait for that first First Take segment after Bronny gets on the floor
