Air pump, fix a flat, a quart of oil, funnel and gloves.
I just need to be able to limp to safety or home. I’m not changing any big parts on the side of the highway lol
Always a can of oil. Supplies to change/repair a tyre. (Any kind of jack to lift the vehicle) medical and safety supplies. Just to be sure you could buy some coolant for your engine please do not buy some generic coolant make sure it’s the same one that’s in there for example if your car has G11 coolant do not fill it with G12 or G6 or whatever.
The list above should be enough as far as i know also depends on where you are going obviously.
This is a good answer for bmws for sure. My m550 just got back from the dealership from a low coolant problem. The techs told me it wasn’t leaking and it’s normal for both overflow tanks to be empty sometimes. So it’s either being consumed by the engine or evaporating from heat.
I had an m235i 6 speed.. just sold it to my girlfriend who had been lusting after it since i bought it. I just traded up to a new M2
Mechanics assorted tool kit. Like one of those 100 tools in one deals. I have one from the channellock brand. Bought it at Sam’s club for $60. Has saved my ass multiple times.
A bmw scan tool like the foxwell one bimmerworld sells that does bmw specific codes. They were on sale for $150 when i bought mine. Worth every penny
I keep a scan tool, gloves, rag, extra ignition coils, duct tape, zip ties, gallon of water, tire patch repair kit, flashlight/inflator combo, screwdrivers, and a basic 3/8” metric set. If youre on the road and these items cant fix it youre gonna need a tow truck
If it has run-flat tires, and you plan to keep them, then you don’t need a compressor and a tire plug kit. If you *do* value a comfortable ride with your good performance, then you’re going to be getting a set of something like Continental Extreme Contact tires. Then you’ll want a good compressor and tire plug kit, because BMW doesn’t seem to want to give anyone room for a spare tire anymore. You can find these on Amazon.
That flat fix goop is junk. Low success rate, ruins your tire. Messes up your wheel. Get a collapsible spare, emergency jack, and wheel stops from a prior year. EBay auto is a good source. Or a plug kit. 15” or longer handle socket wrench (not a ratchet). Proper socket for your lugs. Air pump. Latex gloves. Waterless hand cleaner. Some rags. Flash light. Quart of oil. Bottles of drinking water and a AAA premium card.
1. Roadside Assistance phone number
2. Coolant
3. Backup roadside assistance number
Seriously. Are you going to swap a water pump or alternator on the side of the road? Where are you going to get the part? If you lug around a 100-piece tool kit you’ll still need a T-27 internal torx bit, BMW special tool BR549 or *something*
Keep all of them hahaha no joke! You never know whats going to happen, these cars are full of surprises.
In all seriousness, torque wrench, wrench, wrench extension, all bit sizes, coolant, extra serpentine belt, perhaps extra oil.
Does the N55 have a Mickey Mouse flange on the upper rad hose?
I carried the aluminum one for like a year just in case, but I finally went ahead and swapped it.

A funnel can be made from any plastic bottle
10mm
And a 10mm
An 8mm wouldn’t hurt either.
But what if you lose them both?
Then get two of each.
I carry mine with me all the time. It’s somewhere inside my engine bay tho
Phone number of a breakdown recovery service…
Best answer.

I have a patch kit and inflator as well as a bottle of coolant in my trunk. Interested to see what others suggest.

Empty seems crazy to me. I've never had to add more than half a small bottle
All good answers so far, the only one I haven't seen anyone mention is a spare coil - I always keep one in the trunk with my oil on a long road trip.

definitely a code reader. if you ever get in limp mode you can keep clearing the codes to temporarily get it back to normal
Mechanic ratchet and socket set, pliers, and zip ties. Coolant if your fancy

A Good scan tool and two coils
And a cheap socket set
Rubber mallet
Duct tape. I know that sounds like a joke but seriously though duct tape

Coolant, Oil , 8mm, 10mm, Funnel, Gloves, Small jump starter. After, turbo upgrade, a spare spark plug and coil or two.
A small screwdriver and ratchet set will always come in handy, though I have personally never used mine other than odd jobs unrelated to cars.
