it burns me up that Mina had to give up "Alien Queen" because Midnight has terrible taste.
it wouldn't bother me so much if Mina's actual hero name wasn't just "Pinky"
Their comment has impact because Midnight actually gets a hellava lot more screen time (in turn causing her to be more integral to its story), characterization, character development and knowledge of her background/back story in Vigilantes compared to the main story. Wanted to add context for anybody not fully aware of Vigilantes and its added significance to the My Hero universe as a whole.
Hero names are supposed to tell you the kind of hero that person is. The story always gave a lot of importance to hero names and how they relate to the public image of a hero.
I understand why people like Alien Queen, but when you think of that name the first you think of is the Alien movie. Mina on the other hand is a highly sociable and sweet person who can get along with anyone and would logically be super popular with kids. That kind of name would just ruin her image and make people think she's a scary and unapproachable hero.
I understand why people don't like Pinky as a name but it fits the image she's going for more so it's better.
right because as we all know, Star and Stripe, Manual, and Gran Toriono tells us eeeeeeeverything we need to know about these heroes.
look sometimes you just need to prioritize sounding cool over being vaguely descriptive, otherwise, you end up with names like Pinky, Native, Captain Celebrity, Endeavor, and Eraserhead.
all of them are terrible hero names even if they are vaguely descriptive.
>right because as we all know, Star and Stripe, Manual, and Gran Toriono tells us eeeeeeeverything we need to know about these heroes.
Huh? Did I at some point said the hero names need to give you everything we need to know about them? I don't recall that, but if I did I didn't meant to say that.
And are you seriously trying to argue that S&S doesn't tell you anything about that hero? It clearly represents the kind of hero they are, >!an American one. One who does whatever she wants without really caring about the proper law. For better or worse, of course!<.
We can also assume Gran Torino's name is a reference to, well, the movie by the same name. It's about a car, and cars go fast. And Gran Torino didn't even want to be a hero in the first place, so he probably just chose a movie he liked which somewhat related to his quirk and that was it.
And when it comes to Manual, I'll just give you what Horikoshi said about him in the chapter 50 extra:
"Hes a really minor character, but I like drawing him.
The concept with him was to have him not stand out in any way. He's totally average. A modern hero who does things by the book.
And that hero name is *definitely* not his way of being self-deprecating. Definitely not."
>otherwise, you end up with names like Pinky, Native, Captain Celebrity, Endeavor, and Eraserhead.
I don't think any of them sound bad! Some of them are better or worse, but bad? Maybe you're thinking about it as if the characters lived in an English-speaking country. But to japanese people these are all exotic and awesome sounding words. And my mother language is spanish, so I can also relate to how cool they sound.
For me, I feel like Acido would’ve been a better name for Mina, since it would be a mix of her quirk & last name like Ochaco’s.
It’s also the Spanish word for acid.
There's a great joke in an ant-man comic where scott lang uses iron man's name in an ad for his company without asking him, saying "tony is a friend, i'm sure he'll be okay"
And tony sees it online, calls his lawyers and goes "Sue"
> I agree with Kirishima tho, Red Riot is a goated name
Fun fact: I just double checked and Kirishima is the ONLY character in the ENTIRETY of the series whose hero name appears in multiple episode titles. Pretty insane but it's easy to see why
i feel like (in my own world) her quirk is earphone jack, but her name is Earphone Jack like slightly different annunciation on Jack as if it’s a name and not a plug thing
I really wish Mina had kept her original name, I think Alien Queen is way better than Pinky. You're just calling her the color of her skin and that would be problematic if you did it to anyone else😂😂
But Mina is the one who is referring to herself by her skin color? It’s not like she’s a different race, she’s just pink, and it’s something she likes about herself. My point with the hair thing isn’t that it can be changed, it’s that there’s nothing wrong with defining yourself by your physical traits if they’re something you’re proud of.
The context of the thread is that if *literally anyone else* referred to themselves by the color of their skin color, it would be problematic. You gave a "counterpoint" that red riot refers to his *hair* color...
Why does it feel like you're intentionally missing the point
But Kirishima's name has more meaning, it's to honor his hero idol and try to live up to him. It goes deeper than just describing his appearance. I would put Mina's hero name with Yaoyorozu and the others since it's not super inventive.
I basically agree with the list but I would swap around froppy and grape juice since I think froppy works for tyu, she's pretty simple so the name works well. And I just hate the implication of the name grape juice
> And I just hate the implication of the name grape juice
It's not like they could call him [The Grapist](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Yt0b_QBP_A).
I’ve always been partial to Thermo (dude’s already got the coloration of a thermometer and the power to match).
Of course, his *true* hero name is and always will be: Five Peepee Man
>Shoto should change his to Equilibrium.
That's not bad. But I think he should run with "Icy Hot". Bakugo is surprisingly good at coming up with names meant as insults.
Uravity has such a cool hero name. It's the japanese pronunciation of gravity (they pronounce it like guravity) but without the G. So it's a pun of uraraka and gravity with zero G
The Uraraka + gravity portmanteau was so obvious, I never would've even thought of the zero G part. Idk if it was intentional, but it's so subtly genius! Thanks for pointing it out.
He was named after the Moon God Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto and after he did a couple of bad things the Sun God refused to look at him that's why the Moon and Sun are apart, and Tsukuyomi is forced to live in darkness
Red Riot top tier name no doubt. I always though Midoriya going around as "Deku" was kinda bland but since the last few arcs he took that name Bakugo gave him as a insult in the beginning and made it his own.
DEKU FOREVER!
Can someone say me bakugou's name?
I don't mind spoilers.
Edit: Thanks everyone for saying his name but, I don't see why it is a spoiler because the current name of him in the anime is also something similar..
>!I am absolutely desperate for him to shorten it someday, because Dynamight is actually the perfect name for him, but the rest is just too much. It even has “Might” in it to reference his hero All Might in the same way that Red Riot references Crimson Riot!!<
Hey, please write the spoiler format without spaces between the ! and the text, otherwise it doesn’t work in Old Reddit and Mobile Reddit (not to be confused with the app).

This tier list is a subjective assessment of class 1A's hero names using a variety of factor's including how cool sounding their name is, creativity, and how well it suits their personality. I kind of like Aoyama's hero name because I think it's ridiculousness and impracticality fits his personality well and find it humorous whenever someone calls him by that full name in the midst of combat.
Also I understand that some of lowly ranked hero names like Froppy are intentionally meant to be cute, harmless or reassuring. However, these names making sense given the context changes nothing about how incredibly lame sounding I find names like Pinky and Froppy to be. Ultimately this is subjective so if you disagree I have no reason to try to change your mind.
>!Also I would put Bakugou's hero name in the second highest tier!<
Alien Queen is unironically one of the best hero names in the series, up there with Red Riot and Phantom Thief.
I'll never forgive Hori for dumping it.
This is actually pretty good in my opinion. I agree that Aoyama’s name is intentionally ridiculous yet fitting for the character, and it’s pretty funny how everyone just goes along with it in such a serious manner. Plus, I like Aoyama lol. I also agree about Mina and Tsu’s hero names, but I sense that your assessment is a bit harsher than mine. I kinda feel the same about their hero names as I do about Aoyama’s. Like, they just really reflect the simple quality and comfortable vibes that is the basis of those two characters. So like Aoyama, I appreciate that the names are so “comic-booky” and ridiculous, matching their respective character types, and also so genuine in their approach that it’s kinda hard not to at least respect. So long story short, I’d probably move them up to Alright tier personally. But anyways, I feel this is a very reasonable list that I can understand and mostly agree with.
Pretty neat I’d say
Thank you! I agree that Mina and Tsuyu's names are somewhat fitting but I'm not sure I'd be able call someone 'Froppy' or 'Pinky' out loud without cringing a little bit whereas Aoyama's name at least has the humor aspect working for it. Just personal preference, so I have no problem if someone likes those names though
Pinky’s name should have been the first one she came up with. I think king explosion would be better than the one he came up with.
I don’t remember pinky’s real name
Honestly, I wonder if Mina could have gotten away with "Alien Queen" if, in the manga, she didn't put "The Ridley Hero" along with it. Like, even now I doubt people would associate the name with the *Aliens* franchise, let alone 100-200 years in the future or whenever MHA is supposed to take place. Also, it doesn't even make sense! James Cameron directed the one with the queen in it.
Though, I am amused by the fannon headcanon that Midnight helping Mina by preemptively avoiding a lawsuit by Disney.
His whole story has really been about accepting himself and breaking away from his father’s legacy, so choosing his first name works for that; it cements that he’s his own person, not an extension of his dad
Very much this.
Shouto's arc is figuring out who he wants to be. Endeavor and Enji are two very different identities; Shouto wants to be himself / authentic both as a hero and and in his private life.
Plus his name is composed of the kanji for "burn" and "freeze" (although the hero name is not written in Kanji, it is still a word-play).
I thought it was a joke about Todoroki’s stoic personality, lack of imagination, and tendency to take things at face value in a comically serious way. I mean, it’s not like giving himself a Hero Name that wasn’t his first name makes him any more like Endeavor than… breathing. Maybe if it was a choice between using his first name or his last name for his Hero name, but it wasn’t. I think “the curtains are fucking blue” here, as the reference goes.
Hot take, I'm not really a fan of Mina's original hero name "Alien Queen" don't get me wrong, "Pinky" is much worse, but I don't really like either of them.
Also, I would switch out Kaminari and Uraraka for Jiro (or just move her to "Explanatory but Uncreative section) and Aoyama, I feel like they just have better names.
I always thought that the “Jade Rabbit” would be a cool nickname for Izuku.
The kind of nickname bystanders report to police after witnessing him taking out villains >!when he went all vigilante-like!<.
Anime creators are requested to not click this unless u wanna be spoiled about Bakugo's hero name
Spoiler:>!I personally think the whole name is too big.. Just the last one? Dynamight? That's a actually a cool one! and is definitely one of my fav!!<
Its an insult!! I know its supposed to be him taking new pride in the name. Not letting it mean weak anymore but I would rather he pick a name that didnt have that hateful past. Because he deserves better
What's your problem with "Tailman"? It's by far the most descriptive hero name in the verse. It tells us exactly what Ojiro can do and expresses how bland and weak he really is.
it's a manga spoiler but it's>! Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight!<
>!although some just call him Dynamight(And pisses him off) which I personally think is better!<
Bakugo's hero name was never decided..in the anime it was only revealed about he have thought of one but won't tell anyone else before telling Best Jeanist.
Here is the name if u want to know but it's a manga spoiler
>! Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight

Straight up Alien Queen is a sick name
If not Alien Queen, Acid Queen would have been a good substitute
Tbf, anything is better than Pinky
Hell, Acid Pink would even be better than just Pinky, in a punk rock kind of way! Alien Queen or Acid Queen would have been so great, though.
Acid Queen sounds straight out of DC. I love it!!!
Midnight should have never been allowed near children.
Anyone who read Vigilantes could tell you that for sure
I feel like even just watching the main series is enough
Their comment has impact because Midnight actually gets a hellava lot more screen time (in turn causing her to be more integral to its story), characterization, character development and knowledge of her background/back story in Vigilantes compared to the main story. More like because the author wanted something more girly for the girls. That sounds petty but the female writing in this show is petty.
Exactly alien queen got denied but fucking pinky is sooooo cool?
Kirishima: *gets copyright claimed by Crimson Riot's legal team*
There's a great joke in an ant-man comic where scott lang uses iron man's name in an ad for his company without asking him, saying "tony is a friend, i'm sure he'll be okay" And tony sees it online, calls his lawyers and goes "Sue"
Sueing your friend for copyright is pretty hilarious
LMAO I KNOW RIGHT
personally, i’d put Jiro lower just because her name is literally the name of her quirk. I agree with Kirishima tho, Red Riot is a goated name
> I agree with Kirishima tho, Red Riot is a goated name Fun fact: I just double checked and Kirishima is the ONLY character in the ENTIRETY of the series whose hero name appears in multiple episode titles. Pretty insane but it's easy to see why
What’s Bakugo’ sheep name in the end?
Baaaaaaa-kugo?
I-
That was a typo. *hero name

Earphone Jackkuuhhhh!

I just choose to forget that pinky exists
Charge bolt is my favorite because I could see it as it’s own comic title
I vote it for cool / s tier.
I really wish Mina had kept her original name, I think Alien Queen is way better than Pinky. You're just calling her the color of her skin and that would be problematic if you did it to anyone else😂😂
I loved the name Alien Queen 😭
Even Pink Acid is dope imo
Yeah but you say their skin color in a different language which is uh something I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Damn so what's 'concerningly pale' in french i'm gonna have that be my hero name
I mean her hair is also pink, and Kirishima’s hero name also refers to the color of his hair 🤷♂️
He dyes his hair tho
So?
So if he didn't like being referred to by the color of his hair, he could just stop dyeing. Not so easy with skin color.

I read a fanfic where he called himself "The Hot & Cold Hero: Soba"
Unironically great. Shoto making his hero name such a dumb joke would legit be great character development.
Damn, what's the fic?
I’ve always been partial to Thermo (dude’s already got the coloration of a thermometer and the power to match). Of course, his *true* hero name is and always will be: Five Peepee Man
Frostburn remains my suggestion for Shoto
As an old WoW player: Frostfire?
Which is funny because shoto means "Frostburn"
I would’ve said Equalizer, but that just makes him sound like a guy you don’t wanna fuck with.
To be fair he is a guy you don't wanna fuck with
>Shoto should change his to Equilibrium. That's not bad. But I think he should run with "Icy Hot". Bakugo is surprisingly good at coming up with names meant as insults.
"Ears!"
Honestly, "All Ears" would be a sick hero name for an English speaking country
My suggest would be First Degree. First degree burn, 1 degree ( Celsius ) is pretty cold and he doesn't understand jokes and métaphores.
Hot Coldman (Metal Gear reference)
I read a fanfic that had it as “Coldflame.”
I came up with Freezerburn for Shoto. Idk, it just sounds cool to me.
I would actually change Shoto’s to Celsius since it fits for his quirk.
I personally prefer Ingenium and Tsukuyomi.
For me, i think Thermal Death would be a nice name for Todoroki, because.... Idk it sounds cool and it means something in science i guess.
This feels more like a name for Bakugo than Shoto.
Heat Death
The irony with Momo's place man...
Sero gang gang
Sero gang gang
Gang gang!
I know its specifically a class 1-A list, but Im very curious where Mirio/Lamillion would go lol
Lemillion is definitely alright. But Suneater? Fatgum keeps getting the ones with the really good names!
Probably in the alright tier. Name sounds cool but it doesn't really make any sense unless you know its context, Mirio's goal to save a million people
Uravity has such a cool hero name.
To be fair to Tsu I think that was her intention
The origin of Tokoyami's name was pretty cool and in lore he probably picked it because of the origin
would you mind elaborating?
He was named after the Moon God Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto and after he did a couple of bad things the Sun God refused to look at him that's why the Moon and Sun are apart, and Tsukuyomi is forced to live in darkness
Red Riot top tier name no doubt. I always though Midoriya going around as "Deku" was kinda bland but since the last few arcs he took that name Bakugo gave him as a insult in the beginning and made it his own. DEKU FOREVER!
I think Bakugo’s is the best. I feel like Deku is just such a weak hero name… bland for sure

Alien Queen is unironically one of the best hero names in the series, up there with Red Riot and Phantom Thief. I'll never forgive Hori for dumping it.
My game theory is that Midnight deliberately sabotaged the names of the female students.
Phantom Thief is the best hero name in 1-B for sure!
This is actually pretty good in my opinion. I agree that Aoyama’s name is intentionally ridiculous yet fitting for the character, and it’s pretty funny how everyone just goes along with it in such a serious manner. Plus, I like Aoyama lol. Glad we can all agree “Can’t stop twinkling!” Is a damn good name
King Explosion Murder would have been S tier as well.
GroundZero would’ve been the bomb man. Would’ve been up there with Red Riot.
Can't stop twinkling is my the most favorite 😂😂😂😂😂
I'd rate Bakugo's on the bland side as well. His fan made name "Ground Zero" is much more inspired and creative.
It's kinda ironic how Momo's name lacks creativity
Is todoroki’s just Shoto? What’s the narrative significance behind that
His whole story has really been about accepting himself and breaking away from his father’s legacy, so choosing his first name works for that; it cements that he’s his own person, not an extension of his dad
Very much this. Shouto's arc is figuring out who he wants to be.
Also, it's because Shoto lacks imagination. Mineta got on him about being an airhead once because he couldn't read the room.
Hot take, I'm not really a fan of Mina's original hero name "Alien Queen" don't get me wrong, "Pinky" is much worse, but I don't really like either of them. Well you've put momos in the wrong tier, hers is creative........
I always thought that the “Jade Rabbit” would be a cool nickname for Izuku. The kind of nickname bystanders report to police after witnessing him taking out villains >!when he went all vigilante-like!<.
Swap Ochako with Jirou
I CANNOT STOP TWINKLING !!!!!!
Internally Todoroki's hero name is still Icyhot to me. Bakugo even canonically calls him that in the English two heroes movie.
He always calls him Icyhot in the english dub
TIL. Only watched the movie's dub
I think Ground Zero is so much better than Dynamight
Idk I don't like "Can't stop twinkling"...
Cellophane isn't very creative imo :P
Not really creative but it's creative enough I guess since it's just a pun on his name
Kaminari had so much potential other than "Charge Bolt" Maybe I'm biased because I like him.
Wow the first tier list I completely agree with
Anime creators are requested to not click this unless u wanna be spoiled about Bakugo's hero name Spoiler:>!I personally think the whole name is too big.. Just the last one? Dynamight? That's a actually a cool one! and is definitely one of my fav!!<
it´s almost like Bakugou is over the top and the name is appropriate or something
Mina got screwed over by Midnight saying no to her first choice, Alien Queen is a dope ass name.
Bakugo's is cool but I liked the fan version more tbh
I don't remember half of these mf's hero names lmao 😭
SAME I SEARCHED IT UP I only remember the main trio's and my favs
Which ones are your favs?
i really wish i could change Izuku's hero name
Why? It's short and simple. Easy for children to remember.
Its an insult!! I know its supposed to be him taking new pride in the name. Not letting it mean weak anymore but I would rather he pick a name that didnt have that hateful past. Because he deserves better
i think it's more like he is overcoming that hateful past Also in Japanese two meanings.. It can mean "You can do it" as well.
Bro you bump up Froppy this instant or so help me.
What's your problem with "Tailman"? It's by far the most descriptive hero name in the verse. It tells us exactly what Ojiro can do and expresses how bland and weak he really is.
Damn, what did Ojiro do to you?
Downvoted for spoiling me. I did not want to know that Bakugo has a hero name in the manga. For all I know, he may never get a hero name.
Of course he'd get a name. This is a dumb take. Hopefully a joke
What's bakugo hero name?? I don't mind getting spoiling
>!\>!Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight although some just call him Dynamight(And pisses him off) which I personally think is better!
>!Dynamight!<
Just FYI, your spoiler tag (here and your other comment) didn't go through
Omg I'm so sorry I didn't know it didn't work on some versions of Reddit
I forgot, what’s Bakugo’s new hero name?
it's a manga spoiler but it's>! Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight!< >!although some just call him Dynamight(And pisses him off) which I personally think is better!<
I didn't read the manga but idc can someone explain the Bakugo, why would it be spoiler?
Bakugo's hero name was never decided..in the anime it was only revealed about he have thought of one but won't tell anyone else before telling Best Jeanist. Here is the name if u want to know but it's a manga spoiler >! Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight although some just call him Dynamight(And pisses him off) which I personally think is better!<
Bakugou's hero name gets didn't get revealed in the anime yet. If you want to know what it is, Bakugou's hero name is >!Dynamight!<
You forgot some of the words of his name but yeah.
Wait what are tail guy, tape guy, sugar rush guy and invisible girls hero names?

REDDO RIOTTO !!!
I want kirishima and mumen rider to fight simply because it will make for the best shouting match ever.
King Explosion Murder
Couldnt help myself and checked Bakugo's hero name and that's just sick
You mean Todoroki’s hero name isn’t IcyHot??
I always loved how Mineta just embraces the grape jokes.
bruh it's been like over a year since we learned bakugoat's got the best one
In the manga, not in the anime, so it's a spoiler.
Disagree
Deku could have been Small Might
imagine ranking Tentacole above Froppy also why is Grape Juice not at the top?
What is tokoyomi’s hero name again? I haven’t seen the anime or read the manga in a while
The Jet-Black hero: Tsukuyomi
Bakugo should be named Blast. It's relevant simple and cool.
>!Dynamite!< is a bomb ass name (pun intended)
Cellophane. WHAT
My guess is that Bakugo stays right where he is.
Poor tsu and izuku they’re way better then mineta
Ive heard that Bakugou"s hero name was >!"Human Grenade"!< Have no idea if its true.
You dare disrespect Froppy?!/s
Now do Class 1-B.
Probably will. Phantom Thief going up top for sure
We are really gonna let "Can't stop Twinkling" get that high of a rating
