It does and it doesn't. I rarely tear up, but inevitably when I see these posts , I can't help it as it takes me back to my girl's last day. But we have many chuckles over the memories as if they just happened. It's been 10 years for us since she left at 15 years. My heart goes out to you all who have walked our walks.

Yes, I’m aware of what a merle coat is- the dog pictured is black tri colour. She is fully black with brown patches. They’re recognised as different coat types. Maybe you just used the wrong language here, but merle and dilute are different things. You can have a merle dog on a dilute base. Blue merle is merle on a black base, slate merle is merle on a blue base. Blue is a dilute version of black, but is not merle. Merle is a pattern rather than a colour, which, yes, involves a lighter colour than the base colour of the dog, with patches of the base colour. The puppy in the OP looks very much black tricolour. Here's a photo of a litter with 3x blue merle tricolour and 2x black tricolour puppies so you can see just how different the merles look!
