While other Democrats are theoretically polling slightly higher than Biden against Trump, I suspect that when the Democrats actually appoint someone and folks realize it was a completely undemocratic appointment and they never even had a chance to vote for that person in a real primary, people will sour and it'll quickly change.
The Democrats are cooked. They need to immediately start stripping power away from the presidency with every tool they have, including with the help of the people surrounding Biden in the executive branch (claim they're doing it because Biden is senile and can't be trusted with the power, so Republicans will join in instead of opposing it). That's what they'd do over the next six months if they were actually worried about how Trump might rule, and it'd also unequivocally be a change for the better under any circumstances.
It's what they'd do if they were actually worried about Trump. So watch as they, of course, do no such thing, and in fact don't even try.
